@thylacine- That's a really cool major to go in to! I actually had to go to a speech pathologist when I was a kid cause I had a mild speech impediment but was able to get over it pretty quickly.
And I'm working to finishing my major(Sociology) and hope to have a job that helps people too! I currently don't know what I wanna do, tho I need to figure it out cause I graduate next Spring (aaaah). I've been thinking some kind of social work but idk. In the meantime, I'm currently volunteering at a nonprofit organization that helps special-needs adults learn life skills. It's really neat and I'm enjoying it.

^my mom is a social worker at a nursing home and she really enjoys it! I almost wish sometimes that I decided to follow that path bc it seems like a great job and who doesn't love helping people?

Rainsplash Nice! I'm glad everything worked out for you then! I've had a couple close friends struggle with speech problems well into adulthood (one had a really bad stutter, the other had a speech impediment affecting how his "r" sounds came out). It was really neat to get to see them progress with it even as adults, speech is so fascinating to me in general tbh Omg that's awesome! We might be around the same age then, I'm also going into my last year of a four year program now/graduating in the spring ^_^ I had a couple friends/roommates take Sociology degrees and they really enjoyed it. I've taken the intro class myself, it's got some very intriguing concepts/discussions for sure. I'm a biology major myself, for my undergrad anyway. Lots of labs, but tbh I'm used to the pacing now, and now that I'm in my last year a lot of profs don't even give exams anymore

I don't trust nursing homes... there have been a lot of bad things happening at those. Not everything is "forum appropriate so if you want me to tell you what has happened, let me know and I'll pm you.

Ya, a lot of nursing homes cannot be trusted and it is sad to hear what goes down at some- thankfully though, the ones my mother has worked at are really good. The staff really cares about the residents (:

Aww, that's good pumpkin pie ^_^ I don't currently know anyone in a nursing home, but I always picture how I'd feel if my grandma lived in one (she probably will wind up in one eventually, she's not exactly in the happiest of marriages and I know she wants to move out on her own and meet new friends soon). It's definitely sometimes a process of finding a good/trusted one. I guess it helps when they're smaller too, so each individual patient gets better care/the groups are a little more tight knit

Ya, it's not easy finding a good nursing home that you can really trust! The smaller ones are definetly a plus though because when they are larger, it is harder to have that one on one connection. Like my mom get pretty close to the residents- especially having worked with them so long and it's really nice to have the staff who has those connections

pumpkin pie That sounds so awesome! TBH I might try and do some volunteer work at the New seniors home down the street if I stay at my parents' place for my "gap year" next year. They have both nursing and independent living homes so it's such a broad spectrum of people you can go visit/help with.

I've volunteered at a couple of nursing home in the activities departments and I've served food and done games and done dog therapy and just in general talked to them because they just get so happy when people go and visit! I think that would be a really great opportunity!!

Lots of labs, but tbh I'm used to the pacing now, and now that I'm in my last year a lot of profs don't even give exams anymore I was originally a Psychology major w/ a Sociology minor but decided to switch the two around awhile back. I just realized I wasn't enjoying the Psych courses anymore and not a lot of the careers that are within that field appealed to me. I don't plan on continuing on into a Master's program upon graduation. I want to get some real-life work experience in before committing to such a thing. A lot of my classmates are saying they're going straight on into another program after graduation and I kinda feel slacking/bad that I'm not and that I should be doing so. But I know not jumping into it is the right thing for me atm. But ooh Biology yeah. I like it, it's interesting. Although I really struggled with my required Bio class I had to take. Think I got a C in there overall lol.

Rainsplash: Ooh yeah that's a common thing at our school too. I think my original degree plan upon arriving at my uni was as follows: Major: Biochemistry Minor: Drama Studies And ended up as Major: Biology Minors: Biochemistry/French xD Psych is really cool too and I wish I could've taken some courses for it during my undergrad. Unfortunately since it's classified as another science and I already have both the Bio and Biochem courses for that, the idea was sort of out the window from day one unless I wanted to just spend extra cash, lol. Luckily though I'll get to take some psych next year (namely Childhood/Early Developmental Psych) before applying for my grad program

Older people are pretty cool. I enjoy going and visiting my great-grandma in her assisted living home. And for a class that I had to take actually last semester, Intro to Gerontology, we had to go volunteer at a Senior Activity center one a week for a few weeks. Our job was to actually answer and help with their questions about technology. Like we'd sit one on one with them and some would bring in a computer or phone and I'd show them how to do stuff like create folders in their gmail or download apps. It was pretty fun. I hadn't considered working with older adults within my field am now not opposed to the idea haha.

Luckily though I'll get to take some psych next year (namely Childhood/Early Developmental Psych) before applying for my grad program My college offers a childhood psychology class too and I wanted to take it. But since I'm just doing a minor and have my final class for that already chosen, I'm not. But I did take a general Developmental Psychology class and really liked that. It's interesting stuff. One class I'm not looking forward to in the Fall is Sociological statistics. Although I complain, it shouldn't be too bad as I have already taken Psychological statistics and I'd imagine there will be some similarities. I was quite shocked when I got a B overall in my Psych stats class. Like, I've always been terrible in Math-related classes. Have always made low grades on everything and even had to take a remedial math class before I could take the general math class in freshman year cause I did so terribly on the ACT math portion. And I wish I was better at Math/Science cause there's some pretty cool fields that are within those that would be awesome to do. But I just don't have a brain for that sorta stuff I guess haha.

👌🏼 Indeed.
We have a bunch of cousins over at our house so it was pretty rowdy. Gotta love the cousins haha Are they close to your age? I would imagine it could get a bit rowdy though lol whenever my cousins are over its crazy xD the ages are all Over the place but that doesn't stop all of us from hanging together and all acting like little kids haha The eldest one is a little bit younger than me, but yeah, we all cut loose on the sugar haha.
