Anything I can do to help you? -- Sorry this ended up being so long, but I think it did help a little bit to vent it all out, so thank you, you did indeed help. I was mostly speaking about the candies. But that sounds like... a lot.
Anyway, I figured out, if you use firefox, and install uBlock origin and turn it on while youre on the forums, click the shield icon, and then pick the eye dropper tool and highlight a candy as part of what you want to block, then refresh the page you wont have to see them anymore!

Oh that's handy to know! Would you mind if I or you put this one the main thread? I figured it would be helpful if others get distracted/stressed by it.

I think chrome may have a similar block extension so it should work the same for that too, but I only use firefox so I wouldn't know. Something else people could do is by pressing F12 and at the very top where the options are you can click Responsive Design Mode. This toggles to the mobile version of the forums, and thus, has no candies. It also avoids the whole "please pay for proboard ads" popup that can happen with an adblocker.

I don't really mind seeing them, and I'll pick them up as I come across them, I just won't be putting in literal HOURS hunting for them like I did in the past.
And at least today I came in to a calm night at work - a couple of obnoxious guests, but that's pretty normal. I am stuck staying over again about an hour and a half this morning, but I'm off work for the next 2 days after that and will not be taking calls from this place at all.

As for me, I'm just sitting here kind of taking a "night watch" of the forums since I was told the moderators had a few gap hours. At least the forums are quiet at night so I'm getting away just refreshing the recent posts every hour and skimming them.

Thank you for that, but I'm fine with it. It was actually 3 years ago when the candies were associated with the death of Booger (I can't believe it's already been that long), but I don't link them to him. Now watching this one tree in my backyard shed it's yellow leaves makes me think of him, as does a certain song on the radio, but I wouldn't say they hurt me either, just make me miss him for a couple of seconds. Rory (who turned 1! yesterday) has a lot of similar traits with Booger, the big one being his complete and total devotion to my husband, and that makes me a little sad sometimes too, but I really think it's been good for my husband, who grieved for Booger for so long. My off days are going to involve sleep, more sleep, and going to see the Sopranos movie. Oh, and setting up the new computer. Maybe I'll clean something too.

No worries - my time runs together sometimes too. I have certain date markers that I use to kinda narrow the field down, like if things happened before or after a certain cat's death, or before or after we bought the house, that kind of thing. My husband can tell you practically anything time frame wise based on who the Tennessee Titans were playing at the time (this doesn't work so well in the spring though). Like I was wondering when I last went to NC, or when I got my car, and he'll be all, "well the Titans were playing blah blah that weekend" and can look up the date based on that.

Are you going to be made a moderator? No, and I wouldnt want the job anyway lol Most people don't when they hear about what we do. XD Hilariously, I didn't want to be a mod longer than a couple months when I started and then it grew on me. Mostly because it gives me an excuse to talk to more users and do fun activities in official capacity. I ... found out I basically do the job when I was a regular user anyway. e.g. am active, social, in every board, and have a stifling sense of rule-following.

I wouldn't make a good mod unless my job was to ONLY look after OTD. Even then, man idk, I can't hold my tongue if I got something to say. You can't ask me to be measured and unbiased because I am not. There's a few people I'd like to ban on the spot instead of just sitting around waiting for them to do something else wrong because we already know they are terrible people.
WG is a mess and I'm more inclined to be the troll than stop the trolls -- within reason, some are just mean, but the shitpost bait type make me laugh my ass off because WG takes itself entirely too seriously sometimes and really needs to get a stick unstuck from somewhere.
The roleplay threads are also hell to read, as I found last night, because lit rpers are married to purple prose and I ended up skimming and tuning it out. Like you're not rping anything nsfw? I guess it's good lol.

My off days are going to involve sleep, more sleep, and going to see the Sopranos movie. Oh, and setting up the new computer. Maybe I'll clean something too. wait wait wait how did the candies associate with the death of Booger? and who is Booger? Booger was my cat (actually my husband's, and actually the reason we met, but that's another story). He's the orange tabby that's the first one in my siggie picture. The candy game competition was REALLY intense back in 2018. There were 3 or 4 of us who were really competitive about it, and it literally came down to the final hours. What pushed me ahead for the win was that on October 31 that year, we realized it was time to let Booger go, but we didn't want to ruin Halloween forever, so we decided we would take him the next morning. That night at work, the grief I was going through was so bad (as was the worry that he would die that night before I could get home to say goodbye) that I could barely function - all I could do all night was collect candies, because it was a mindless activity. The morning of November 1, we came home, said our goodbyes, I laid out on the porch in the sun with Booger one last time (which was when I saw the yellow leaves falling, so I think of him each fall now when that particular tree changes), and then we took him up to the vet. I came home, still very numb, and not knowing what else to do, started collecting candies. I finally called it quits on the candies somewhere around 3:45 that afternoon, not knowing when the game ended - turns out it ended at 4pm. I won by a very narrow margin. That night when I woke up and found out I had won, I burst into tears, both with my grief for Booger, and relief that the stressful competition was over. Emotionally, the 2 things had combined in my mind. They are separate now, and even though I won the following year, and came in second the year after that, I never let the candies take over my life that way again (I was literally putting as many hours into candy hunting that year as working a full time job). This year, I don't think I'm even going to try that hard, though I will still collect the candies on the pages I go to out of habit.

WG reminds me of a swamp that had oil spilled in it. I’m too used to it now that I feel like a broken record. I stopped reading certain roleplay threads a long time ago unless I have the time to.

what was wrong with him? sorry if this brings back bad memories. Turin not Torino He was old, he was diabetic, he was blind - his blood glucose kept crashing for probably a year or so before that, and it got to the point where giving him insulin shots made him sicker rather than helped. By that Halloween, he couldn't even walk anymore. He was down to 4 pounds when we took him to the vet that final morning. It was just time to let him go.
