Basically, my parents are stopping me from watching the news/keeping up with social events. Does it count as abuse? It depends on what degree they are doing it to.

If they are actually freaking out over it in a way of verbally abusing them yeah, or even attacking them physically. But just preventing them from seeing the news or being up to date with social events isnt a type of abuse. Their health isnt at risk jsut because they arent watching the news or seeing change or update in social events today. They are the parents, and if they feel their child should not see certain things in the world right now, they have the right to shelter their children from those things. It's not harmful to the child necessarily and doesnt effect their health in a way that will damage them. That's just how they want to raise their child. My parents sheltered me from a lot of thing and I came out to be just fine. Just because they dont want you to experience it now or have much knowledge of it now doesnt mean youre going to die without knowing of it lol.

Dude I don't know a single thing about society besides what I learn in history books and hear classmates endlessly talking about. So basically the only current things I know is that Trump became president a few years ago and if there's going to be a hurricane or something. And that's it. My parents effectively keep me buried under a rock.

My parents used to shelter me and there was tons i wasn't allowed to do (couldn't watch tv/go on the internet, no social media or youtube, wasn't allowed to have a phone, couldn't eat a majority of foods and drinks, wasn't allowed to go outside alone, walk downtown with friends, run on my own, bike on my own..do anything alone lol, i could only eat at certain times and drink at certain times, had a strict bed time)- all up until the middle of high school, that kinda made me an outsider to the rest of the people at my school and like made me have diff values/ways of acting bc i was raised so sheltered? but I'm grateful partly for the way they raised me - even if i wished i had been able to experience some things and most likely, i would have more friends and less mental issues but alas! i'm pretty much free to do anything i want now except a lot of the restrictions they had on me when i was younger, while they seemed like restrictions now, seem regular to me and are voluntary my brother on the other hand, never had any of these restrictions...and he has not turned out too well....at all
i was first allowed to even go on the computer when i needed to get a laptop for school...and i found my way here and my parents hated it and would get mad at me and tell me to get off/they didn't like me on a website where i was talking to strangers but the norm around that has like lessened A LOT and after a while, they got used to it things were diff then, about what was acceptable and not plus, they knew that i wouldn't do anything i wasn't supposed to
my parents were pretty old school and raised me old school

My parents sheltered me pretty often from many things and now that Im older I honestly dont blame them at all. I wasnt allowed to go out in my neighborhood alone, and my parents had to know my friends for me to be able to go and stay the night or whatever. I was limited to things I could do on the computer. Even now, being 20, my parents still worry about where I am and who I'm with, and how the world is now again, do not blame them for being so worried abbout who Im with or what Im doing...

Parents can up and make a new rule. That's just how it works. I made friends on video games from around the world, and then they suddenly didnt like that and so cut me off from that. Yeah, you can openly talk about it but they could know more of whats going on than you do and think its going too far and that you dont need to know so much about it just yet.

Same with knowing their passwords, but I also learned at a young age how to do a lot of computer stuff and when they tried to keep the internet away from me I managed to sneak on in some manner....aka I was a sneaky thing oof.

I mean I could also put it into terms of how the government is but I dont really like to get that technical. But basically they do the same thing to everyone lol. If you compare it to how it was before to now, alot more things are push off to shelter us and I mean thats how parents bascially can be. Should we know of things, I mean sure but to an extent and obviously when youre older you have more free space to do what you want and how you want.
I may seem troublesome now, but really its not a huge deal like it may come off to be. Sometimes being with parents you have to miss out on things, and learn later on. Just depends on everyones style of parenting.
(Plus personally I think having too much insight on the news isnt the healthiest thing anyway. I use to have to watch it everyday at work and really made me see a little more than I wanted at the time but to each their own. Just a personal stand point as to way too much news or not, but it could be how your parents are seeing it too. There's just a lot of factors there that can be put into play.)

So you get really crafty and find ways around stuff. The worst was when I would go visit one friend and we would leave her house to walk around town and I would be so paranoid my parents would be out driving and see me rofl.

pumpkin pie Xyconic SparklyAs a note, I probably shouldn't have jumped into the discussion. As a person who isn't very sheltered, I can't imagine being pulled away from the news or having my online activity monitored. The idea makes me cringe. I tend to view it in a negative light, but that's most likely because my parents aren't raising me that way.

I don't really like it but it's okay. nice how was it? really? that's awesome! we never had track at a young age- only had a hs team lol you must be pretty good then! i love it lol it was good! it was like a little two minute run for 1st graders but it was still good exercise yeah me too it's kinda forced me to love it but hey, whatever that's good. I have a really strict track coach so the lessons are kinda dull for me tbh

i literally get so mad at people when they stare over my shoulder now; i start shaking and starting to have a panic attack and not purposely, yell at them to get away from me lol I'm like TOO CLOSE and i mean, at this point, they know, but they sometimes still get too close lol i hate when people try to stare at my phone though...my sis does it all the time and I'm like keep your eyes over there hello
