Darius sighed softly and changed into a pair of dark jeans and tossed on his leather jacket, checking to make sure his stake was hidden and secure, but easy to get to in a pinch. So far he had yet to use it, which he was thankful for, but he knew that he had to be prepared. Going out at night was the riskiest thing they could do, but he had yet to get Cassie adjusted to a daytime schedule. The hardships of being a vampire, he often mused when he thought about it. He didn't have that weakness, the sun did not drain him like it did moroi, just bored him because everyone he knew would be sleeping during those hours.
Slipping on a pair of shoes, he walked over and twirled a key around his finger, watching her bounce around with amusement. "alright you little bunny, we're going already." he said as he shooed her out the door and locked it behind himself, shoving his hands in his pockets as he started down the quiet hallway. He wasn't thrilled about going to a bar, but he looked significantly older than he was, and compulsion did wonders to get a young moroi in where they didn't belong.
Stepping outside, he sighed softly as he took in the night air. It was a wonderful feeling, to be outside again. He knew he couldn't relish in it for long, and his shoulders tensed up as he watched their surroundings. "Lets hurry up before anyone can spot us." He mumbled softly, always on edge, wary that any person who sees them, could be looking for them.

Cassie noticed the way Darius softened once they stepped outside and smiled as he released a deep, relaxed breath. She too took in the night air with a smile, which was chilly but held the promise of spring. The town they were currently residing in was small, and she could make out plenty of stars in the inky sky that barely clashed with the street lights sporadically scattered around their neighborhood. The nearly full moon shone brightly down on them, filling the young Moroi with energy. The night felt like theirs for the taking, and she gripped the sleeve of Darius's jacket as he tensed back up into guardian mode.
"Let's go!" She was eager for blood, but more than anything she wanted to enjoy the night out while they could.

Darius looked at her again before he started to walk down the street, having memorized a map of the town when they had first arrive, he knew a fair few places to go when needed. He knew escape routes and vantage points as well, having taken special care to know his surroundings. Of course, he also knew that if he knew, other guardians would know as well, which put him even more on edge. If St. Vladimir Academy was on their tails, he wasn't sure if he could get her away and run to somewhere new. They were far more skilled than he was, and he feared what team would be sent after them.
Growing closer to the location they were headed, his pace quickened a bit, his shoulders tensed and he looked around. Something felt wrong, off. Someone was watching them, but he couldn't tell if they were dhampirs or strigoi, though at the moment he rather preferred dealing with a strigoi. "Cassie..." He rumbled, his voice low and dark, warning of what was potentially to come.

Typically Cassie wasn't a feign for blood, but she had gone so long without it that it was like she could sense the substance flowing through the humans at their destination. "What?" She complained at his sudden hesitation, oblivious to the danger that he sensed. Regardless, she came to a slow stop and backed up against him. The tone of his voice meant business, and more likely than not, Darius knew what he was talking about.

Darius silently wrapped an arm around her, and while it looked like a romantic gesture from the outside, his arm was tense and he was watching around warily. "We're being watched." he said softly again, leading her down the path they were on. He knew they were waiting, waiting to catch them off guard, waiting for no witnesses. Glancing up, he sighed softly and lead her into the building, their destination. It was loud and a bit dark, but it was perfect for hiding.
"Hurry up, we'll have to take the back way home." He told her quickly before releasing her to get what she needed. Of course, at the moment he thought maybe it would be better to go home, lock the doors, wait for daylight, and then pack up and leave. However, he decided he wanted to be fully conscious for a little bit, and telling her to use him as a blood source now would only weaken him and leave her vulnerable.

Cassie gasped as she felt his arm tighten around her, and stared up at him as he dragged her inside of the bar. The music pounded from all around them, making her want to grab Darius's hand and join the pulsating bodies on the dance floor. Regardless, she knew he sensed danger and needed to get to what was important. She snaked through the dancing bodies until she reached a girl that was particularly stumbling and gripped her wrist, staring into her eyes and working her compulsion.
Minutes later she emerged from the bathroom, wiping her mouth and looking more glowing and alive than she had previously. She fought her way back to Darius and scanned nervously over the crowd, "Let's get out of here." She had a rather dazed look to her, and her dizzy smile suggested that the girl's intoxication had worked it's way into her system. She hiccuped and leaned against Darius, resting her face on his leather jacket.

Darius leaned against a wall nearby silently, watching the crowd dance and stumble around each other. He took note that he did recognize the signs of a couple dhampirs and moroi in the room, but none of them were from the school, likely just locals. He shook his head, staring up at the ceiling as he thought about their escape route. If it wasn't difficult to function after, I would have pulled you into a corner myself. He thought begrudgingly, hating how he knew she was going to act all tipsy and such after this.
He was right, of course. Seeing her come out and her leaning against him, he wrapped an arm around her unconsciously, shaking his head. "Let's wait a moment, you're going to stumble around like this, and it's harder to protect you if I have to carry you back." He said softly, gently. Really, he was debating on getting a drink himself, he needed something to relax him, but now wasn't the time. Someone, something, had found them, and suddenly his job had become even more urgent.

"No, let's go now," Cassie protested in a sing-song voice, staring up at him with fierce gray eyes, "I'm fine, seriously." She resisted the urge to sink into his strong grip and began to pull him towards the exit. Surely they could find a better use of the night, out of the reach of whatever danger Darius sensed. Or at least that's what her suddenly inebriated mind told her. They could take a nice walk in the park in the center of town, and sit by the fountain and discuss their plans for wherever they were to move. "Come on," she groaned, trying even harder to pull him along.

Of course, Darius was hard to move, he was a pretty solid brick wall. "Cassie... We. Are. Surrounded." He said urgently, glancing around before he reversed her pull, so he was actually tugging her to a darker corner, less crowded but easier to watch. He shielded her with his body, anyone who danced to close knocked into him, and no one would be able to see her. The look in his eyes said everything, his worries and fears, concern and anger. He promised to protect her, and he worried what would happen should he fall.
"I don't know whether they are strigoi or dhampirs, but there are a lot of them, and they are looking for us right now, right outside these walls. Until I can assess our situation better, it is best to stay here, wait out your haze, and try to wait them out." He said, worried about getting her out of this situation unharmed. He didn't care about himself, he could take a hit, but he didn't want to risk her safety just in case.

The urgency in Darius's voice and the look in his eyes was sobering. Cassie shook her head, struggling to fight through the fogginess in it. "If they've already found us, we can't just be sitting ducks waiting for them to corner us in here. We should find a way to sneak out."
She observed the mass of bodies for a moment and pointed to where a group of rambunctious bar-crawlers were exiting the building. "There." Without waiting for him to reply, she ducked under his arm and pulled the dark hood of her jacket over her blonde hair. She gave a fleeting look back at Darius and squeezed through the crowd, knowing he would follow her whether he wanted to or not.
She had nearly blended in with the group when she felt a hand grasp her wrist. It was gentle but very firm, and she tried to tug it away and got nowhere. Feeling a pit of dread form in her stomach, she turned around slowly to see a very tall dhampir man holding onto her.
"Princess Volkov."
"Oh, s&%#."

Darius looked around as she slipped away from him, "it's dangerous Cassie!" He called out, but his voice was drowned out by the music and people around them. He cursed under his breath before he started pushing his way through the crowd, knocking people away easily towards the exit. He didn't like this, he didn't like when she disregarded what he said. Yes, they would be sitting ducks, but they were sitting ducks in a public space, he knew the Guardians wouldn't do anything in a public space.
He felt an arm go around his neck as soon as he stepped outside, but he didn't give the other dhampir a chance to speak, grabbing his arm and easily flipping him over his shoulder, back slamming into the ground. He started to go towards Cassie and the dhampir, but it wasn't long before three other guardians came around and slammed him to the ground, arms behind his back. He didn't get much of a fighting chance, but they came prepared, his instructors knew his style, and the best way to combat it was to outnumber him.
"Darius Keppler, you are under arrest for the kidnapping and endangerment of Princess Volkov." Another dhampir, a short woman, said as she walked up.

"Darius!" Cassie gasped as he was suddenly outnumbered and slammed to the ground. The Guardian holding her responded by slipping a hand over her mouth to keep her from yelling and drawing attention to them. Cassie did what any reasonable vampire would do: she bit him. Hard. The dhampir gasped in pain and then in pleasure as the Moroi endorphins took over, and his grip on Cassie loosened enough for her to slip away. She rushed towards Darius but was quickly apprehended by two more Guardians on each arm. They were careful to not to harm the wayward princess, but she definitely wasn't getting away this time.
She gaped at the newcomer, a small dhampir woman who seemed like she might be in charge of this whole operation. She could hardly believe what she was hearing. "What!? He didn't kidnap me! Running away was my idea!" Sure, she was stretching the truth a bit as it had been both of their idea, but she knew her repercussions would be much less severe than Darius's.

The female dhampir looked over at Cassie before walking over, leaving the others to handcuff and get Darius under control, including removing the stake he had reached for. "Princess Volkov, it does not matter whose idea this was. Mr. Keppler knew he was committing a horrendous crime by bringing you, a moroi princess, out of the safety and regulations of St. Vladimir Academy. He put your life at risk, that is all that matters." She said as she waved her hand, watching the other heave Darius to his feet.
"I think I did a damn good job these past few months." Darius grumbled, which earned him a pretty rough hit to the back of his head. He shook his head a moment later, recovering from the hit quickly before glaring at the man who had hit him.
"You are untrained Mr. Keppler! You are not a full Guardian, and Princess Volkov is not your charge as of yet. Her family has been worried sick because of your foolish actions." The woman, Guardian Maina, said in a strict voice.

Cassie felt her heart flutter in her chest in a panic when the handcuffs were slapped on Darius's wrists. This is so bad. She struggled to come up with the proper words to convince the Guardians of his "innocence".
"We overheard Guardians talking about Strigoi attacks near the school," she blurted, "So we got scared and ran. Please, you have to understand that this happened because Darius wanted to protect me." She wasn't sure how good of an idea it was to admit that they had overheard confidential information, but it was her best shot. Darius had devoted most of his life to protecting her, and it was time she returned the favor.
"Besides, he's right. I'm just fine, aren't I? And it's because of Darius. He kept me safe. Shouldn't that be what matters?" She pleaded.
The part about her family struck her, making her avert her eyes from the crowd. She didn't see her parents often as they were always tied up in royal business, but she was sure the sudden absence of their only daughter worried them terribly. Her brother, Nikolas, was in his final year at St. Vladimir's. She was closer to him and often confided in him. She'd left out telling him about her plan to escape, and she was sure he was quite angry with her.

Darius visibly winced as the handcuffs cut into his wrists, but he stopped fighting against it, he knew he was done for. He broke the rules and he knew it, he knew Cassie's family would likely never trust him again after this. "Cassie stop, you know as well as I do that they are right, I put your life in danger. If I can't protect you from this, I'd hate to see us against a couple of strigoi..." He rumbled, his head down as he thought about it. He hated admitting defeat, hated admitting weakness, but now he had too.
Guardian Maina walked over to Cassie and looked her over, "look at these bags, this lack of blood is unhealthy for a young moroi like yourself." She said simply, turning away again, "I care not what Mr. Keppler believe, he should have known better and approached us rather than putting you in harm's way like this." She said, waving a hand to gesture for them to be taken to the cars, separately.

Cassie glared furiously at Darius as he cracked. Be quiet, would ya!? Her expression screamed, but the damage had long been done. She hated seeing Darius look so weak and defeated, and it put a lump in her throat. She regarded Guardian Maina with a grumpy stare as she looked her over. She wanted to protest the guardian's assessment of her, but she was right. Cassie was exhausted and had been suffering from a lack of blood for months, and with her world currently crashing in on her she felt like her knees were going to buckle and she was going to take a nice nap right there on the pavement.
With a simple gesture from Guardian Maina, she and Darius were being whisked away to separate vehicles. Big, fat tears began to spill down Cassie's cheeks. It was no secret the princess could be a bit of a crybaby, but this situation certainly called for it. This is all my fault, she thought miserably as the car door slammed shut behind her, If I had just listened to him this wouldn't have happened. His life is probably ruined and it's all because of me.
She swiped angrily at her tears and turned to look out the back window as the car started to pull off. "I'm sorry," she mouthed, though she doubted Darius could even see her.

Darius sighed softly as he was pushed into the vehicle, leaning back against the seat and closing his eyes as he listened to the conversations around him. He didn't know what to do at this point, how to go about the future now. "How did you find us?" He asked after a moment.
"Mr. Imani tipped as to your possible location." Guardian Maina said after a moment of debate, deciding that letting the information of the informant out was not confidential.
"Father, of course he did." Darius said with an annoyed sigh, shaking his head at the mere thought of it. He didn't like his father, that much was extremely obvious. His father did not care for him either, so this did not surprise him in the least. He must have sent out a private eye to watch them, must have compelled his mother to say something, she was the only one he told.

The driver of Cassie's car must have felt sorry for the obviously troubled princess, because he kept trying to make lighthearted conversation the majority of the long drive back to Saint Vladimir's. At first Cassie appeased him by carrying on the conversation, but as time went on her answers turned from genuine responses to "mhms", "yeahs", and "nos". She rested her head against the window, almost completely tuning the driver out and watching the endless pine trees go by in a blur of dark green. It was rather hypnotizing, and it almost lulled her to sleep before the Guardian driver blurted out:
"You're right, by the way."
"Huh?" Cassie mumbled, half-asleep. She would have ignored it like everything else he had said for the last thirty minutes, but something about the change in his tone caught her attention. He hesitated like he wasn't sure if he should continue, but did so anyways, "About the Strigoi. There's been over ten attacks just outside of the wards this month alone. That's not even the worst part, though.. a couple of students have reported seeing Strigoi inside the wards. I know that sounds impossible, and by all means it should be, but for these rumors to start at a time like this.. and you should have seen those kids. They were terrified. Way too much to just be pulling a prank."
Cassie sat upright and stared curiously at the back of the driver's head. Strigoi inside the wards? How could that even happen? "Why are you telling me this?" She asked.
The driver shrugged. "I just think... the two of you were onto something. There's something happening, and I felt like you deserved to know."
"Thanks.." Cassie replied, staring at the road ahead, trying to process this information.

Darius's ride was a long more silent than Cassie's after he learned that his father gave their location away. Occasionally he would lean forward and attempt to break the handcuffs, but the angle he was at made it difficult to even attempt, at least, without popping his shoulder out of place that is. Even if he escaped the handcuffs, he was trapped in a moving vehicle with guardians surrounding him on all sides. Ugh, Cassie's parents are going to kill me...With my luck, I'll be expelled and father will kill me as well. Man, I kinda wish that was still an expression when talking about him... He thought begrudgingly, knowing that there was a good chance his father would actually kill him because of this.
He watched the scenery before them, thinking about the time and their location. At the speed they were going, they would arrive at St. Vladimir's during fifth period, such a lovely time to arrive at a boring place. He'd be escorted somewhere away from Cassie and await judgement most likely, then be escorted off campus to where his father lived. Granted, that was all speculation, he didn't know if that was true or not, he didn't know what would happen to them.
Lulling his head to the side to look out the window, he sat up straighter, watching the distance with narrowed eyes. "Guardian Maina, to our left, I think someone is following us..." He said, his voice urgent. He had never seen a strigoi before, but the speed of that figure, it could be nothing else. Even Moroi did not move that fast.
Guardian Maina shifted her weight and looked out the window, but saw nothing. Shaking her head, she leaned back in her seat, crossing her arms over her chest. "Stupid boy, trying to trick us like that." She said, confident that Darius was just trying to pull her leg, until something slammed into the top of their vehicle, and the driver swerved violently, sending the passengers tumbling around.
(I just realized that technically, Cassie would just be Lady Volkov, because only the heads of the vampire are Prince and Princess, so only her parents would be called that XD Though Darius would still call her Princess)

Suddenly, the cellphone ringer of Cassie's driver began to blare. He frowned and lifted the device in one hand, pressing the answer button.
"Guardian Kent, this is bad, I need you to-" a breathless voice said over the speakerphone before the Guardian pressed a button to turn it off. Apparently, he didn't want Cassie to know quite everything. Cassie listened eagerly, but Guardian Kent spoke too hushed and fast for her to catch what was going on. He kept the call quick and hung up with a curse. "What's wrong?" Cassie pried, hoping she could get something out of him.
"SOS call from Guardian Maina's crew. Their vehicle has been attacked." Cassie leaned back against her seat, feeling a little dizzy. Darius was in that car. "What do you mean by attacked? By what?" "What do you think?" Guardian Kent replied, referring to the Strigoi they had been talking about just minutes ago.
"We have to go help them," Cassie said like this wasn't something up for debate. Guardian Kent shook his head. "No. Back up is already on the way. My job is to get you back to St. Vladimir's safely." Unfortunately for the Guardian, this was something in which Cassie couldn't take no for an answer. "Guardian Kent..." The guardian lifted his eyes to the rear view mirror, looking back at Cassie. "Yes, miss?" "We're going to help them." As Cassie's eyes met his in the mirror, she felt the strings of compulsion travel forward and wrap themselves around the Guardian. He blinked and nodded, turning suddenly and picking up the speed. If it wasn't for the worry coursing through her body, she might have smiled. Now that was more like it.
[{ I was thinking about this too honestly, it probably would be better to keep things consistent. Lady Volkov it is~ }]

The vehicle tumbled and flipped several times until it finally landed on its side, sending dizzied guardians and Darius to the side in an awkward pile of limbs. Darius shook his head and sat up, pulling two guardians with him, "believe me now?" He snapped in annoyance, looking around as the head, Guardian Maina, managed to crawl her way out from the ceiling window. Darius didn't bother with that, instead he just stood up, pushing the door above him open in the process. Even with handcuffs around his wrists, he pulled himself up and out of the vehicle, ignoring the glass that sliced his arms up, the leather jacket barely protecting his chest and back.
Glancing over, he could see Guardian Maina fighting the strigoi, but looking around, he knew, anyone could tell, there were others. "Hey, I know I'm under arrest and whatnot, but can you unhandcuff me? I'm not fully trained, but I can still help." He said, glancing at one of the guardians that crawled out after him. Looking over at where the fight was, and then around their surroundings, there wasn't much arguments as Darius found someone tugging on his arms, and then they were free a moment later, his stake rested back in his hand.
"Alright!" Darius said with a grin, rolling his wrists before he moved to help Guardian Maina, who looked annoyed by his help, but she wasn't having much luck either. The strigoi, a wiry male, was fast, and kept darting away, until he was barreled into by a wall, AKA Darius. The two tumbled and rolled, neither one getting the upperhand for a moment. Soon Darius, who was even more scratched up from nails and the ground, got the strigoi in a headlock, just to the point where Guardian Maina was able to stake him.

The two cars hadn't been very far from each other, Guardian Maina's had simply taken the back roads rather than the highway. Therefore, it didn't take too long for Cassie and Guardian Kent to arrive at the scene. The car came to a fast stop, sending up a cloud of dust in the gravel. Cassie hopped out of the car, shielding her eyes and coughing. Once the dust cleared, she laid eyes on Darius and Guardian Maina staking the Strigoi, and took a step back with a curse.
She then turned to see Guardian Kent exiting the car, which was almost as terrifying. His expression was confused for a brief moment, but it quickly turned into one of knowing and annoyance. However, his chastising of the girl would have to wait. The Guardian strode past Cassie to Guardian Maina, pulling his own stake from the hostler at his side. "Is everything okay here? Are there any others?"
Cassie made her way over to the rest of the group, looking around nervously. "Guardian Kent's car is fine. We can all squeeze in. Can we go like, now?" She urged, moving in closer to the Guardians and Darius. She had enhanced night vision, but there was still a limit to what she could make out in the forest around them, where more Strigoi could be lurking.

Darius dropped the strigoi before standing up, dusting himself off, though he mostly ended up smearing mud and blood, his leather jacket now in tatters. "Man, that was my best one too..." He mumbled dishearteningly, pulling the remains off and tossing it towards the sideways car. Seeing Cassie, he jogged over, eyes wide, "you shouldn't be here." He said urgently, looking around before instantly starting to shoo her back to the car, guardian personality taking over.
Guardian Maina stood up before looking at Guardian Kent, a growl deep in her throat as she stalked towards him, stake pointed at his throat. "What are you doing bringing Lady Volkov back in harms way?" She snapped harshly, but looking around, at the other guardians on high alert, she decided now was not the best time to scold him. "We will discuss this later Guardian. For now, take Lady Volkov and Mr. Keppler back to St. Vladimir, we shall wait her for backup to arrive." She said, her stance on the subject clearly stating, there were others, and it was better for them to stay then the car to be chased.

[{ Apologies for lack of activity, being sick combined with working really puts a damper on a girl's muse -.-" }]
"Yes, we certainly will discuss this later..." Guardian Kent said in response, his eyes traveling to Cassie. Just what happened back there? Obviously she had used her compulsion on him, but it was unlike any compulsion he had experienced before. Typically the "Moroi mind control" was more of a strong push in a certain direction, but his mind had been invaded, turning him into some kind of robot acting completely against his will. A couple possibilities went through his mind, but this, like everything else, would have to wait for later. They come first.
"You have my word, Guardian Maina. I'll get them back safely."
Cassie gave a sheepish smile under Guardian Kent's crushing glare, and was actually glad to be ushered to the car by Darius. "I know I shouldn't be here. I shouldn't do a lot of things I do, but I do them anyways. Anyways, geez, look at you. Always gotta play the hero, don't you? Could've gotten yourself killed, idiot," Cassie nervously babbled on as they made their way to the car. Now that the shock of seeing him in Strigoi-killer mode had worn off, she was just glad that he was okay.

(Don't worry about it, life happens)
Darius shook his head before ushering Cassie into the car, then climbing in himself, wincing visibly as the injuries he sustained finally took notice in his mind. "It was either tackle the monster to the ground or let Guardian Maina die, and it's not everyday you get to wrestle with a strigoi." He said with a small shrug, attempting to act calm and collected at the moment, but his heart was racing. He could hear it pounding in his ears, rushing at speeds that likely should not have been possible, but that was the adrenaline speaking. He had never faced a strigoi before, and he ran on autopilot to do what he knew needed to be done. Either take it out there, or give it a chance to chase Cassie. He preferred the idea of risking his own behind than putting her at more risk.
"So, how much of a robot did you turn Guardian Kent into?" He asked after a moment, well aware of her abilities. Of course, he had been with her most of their lives, and while he didn't understand them necessarily, he knew how strong she could be. Really, he didn't try to understand Moroi Magic, his own father could manipulate air, he knew that all to well, and he knew the other elements and the rumored fifth element, but he didn't care to keep track of them. He just wanted to get around with his life and skin intact these days.
Guardian Maina looked at Guardian Kent before turning to the others. "We're leaving the old fashioned way boys! We've got some strigoi to hunt!" She called out, and her squad of men disappeared into the forest, leaving her to glance at the car before she run in after them, on a deadly hunt after a creature much faster and stronger than they were.

(: probably a new story since idk if we could get back into this one. if not itβs cool though!~ }]
