Feathersong in the medicine den, roleplaying with Feathertalon
His morning was uneventful so far, and for that, he was grateful. There was still a blanket of mourning settled over the camp; Sagestar's death was still fresh in the memory of MoltenClan, and Ashstar's ascension hadn't even been a full sunrise ago. He'd come back recently and had stopped by the Medicine Den briefly to get a thorn out of his pad, but otherwise, everything was relatively calm. Peaceful, even. Birds chirped overhead, and he found himself going through the stock of herbs, setting stale herbs aside and separating thyme from coltsfoot and StarClan, how did this get so messy?
It was calming work, though. His sense of smell helped greatly, told him when something wasn't going to be of use. As he worked, his tail swished back and forth, his ears twitched at every little sound.
After a moment of working, he stood up and arched his back in a luxurious stretch. He closed his eyes and tilted his head back, taking a moment to get all the kinks out of his limbs. Something cracked and he felt much, much better for it; all in all, an excellent session of stretching. Everything is pain, he thought, pressing his belly to the cool earth that had somehow wormed its way into the fallen log. Is this what being an elder feels like?
A soft chuckle escaped him and he stretched his paws wide, entirely comfortable in the way he had settled himself. Was it ungraceful? Absolutely. Did he care? Well, he couldn't exactly see how spread out he was, so he wasn't particularly bothered. Sorting herbs was an extraordinarily boring pastime, but a necessary evil. Feathersong was a surprisingly active cat; he'd much prefer hunting down the very herbs he was sorting, but then...he didn't enjoy the drying process, or the restocking, or the fact that some herbs were killed by the heat.
Alright, being a Medicine Apprentice was endless suffering but in the end, he enjoyed his work! Despite everything, a low purr rumbled in his throat. He'd never intended on being here, but he had a shiny new name and he worked hard. He hoped he was a good apprentice to Pebblepool, but he could never be sure. Was it frustrating, having to explain smells and sounds over the sight of something? But these were thoughts he'd been thinking since he'd been blinded, and he found that he no longer cared about the opinion of others on his lack of sight. If they couldn't deal with it, that was their problem and not his. Sitting on this idea was a confidence-booster in itself.
"Oh, Dark Forest," he groaned softly, sniffing through the herbs. "We're out of feverfew."
Mercury at the base of the volcano, roleplaying with ♥𝒵𝒪𝑀𝐵𝐼𝐸𝒢𝑅𝑅𝐿♥
The first thing that he noticed was the warm rocks beneath his feet. The second were the large, smooth boulders. Though the sun had barely peeked over the horizon, he pounced towards one and settled comfortably, soothed by the heat of it. Already, Mercury could feel the warmth settle through his bones; it was pleasant and comforting, entirely unlike the heat that had been around the mid-section of the volcano above him.
"Sweet freedom," he hummed, half-closing his eyes. It appeared that the young tom was entirely unaware of his surroundings; but it was the opposite.
Mercury was, in fact, listening to everything around him. Every little rustle, every little move of a rock. When little lizard scampered past his rock, his ear turned in the direction of it. He'd scented the markers of various cats nearby, and he didn't want to settle too much. Just enough to regain his energy.
He wasn't sure how long he'd been wandering, just knew that he was trespassing and he couldn't find it in himself to care.
Humans were not to be trusted, he'd learned. Of course, he'd learned it the hard way but it was a lesson and that was all he cared about. It hadn't been a short distance from here, either; he'd been traveling since the previous Summer, and now it was Spring...a little unnerving, he had to admit. As he thought about it, he considered all the territories with little to no prey, considered the volcano above him and yet the plentiful prey in the forest.
Ah, well. Nothing beat a fresh mouse or bird, and he was sure that the cats within wouldn't be too bothered. Hopefully. It would be rather unfortunate if they were unfriendly.

She yawned, blinking her bright blue eyes adjusting to the light.
"Ugh," She groaned, "Another boring day in the training hollow."
She stretched her legs out in front of her and let out a yelp. She lifted her paw and pound the source of her pain, a thorn! Great! She thought, An excuse to get out of training!
She limped over to the medicine den, then stopped. They seem busy...
Oh well, She thought and hopped into the medicine den, "Feathersong?"

Pebblepool medicine cat
In the short amount of time that Sagestar had been taken down by the fox, the stars had been busy. No words had come to her, but she had caught the faintest of hums, the softest of songs. While the Clan worked down below, the stars celebrated up above. StarClan had welcomed Sagestar with open paws, and for that Pebblepool was grateful. Sagestar had been a wonderful leader, and she deserved a huge welcoming into StarClan. StarClan had been the loudest right before Ashdapple, now Ashstar, had left to receive his new nine lives. The ancestors had been abuzz with chatter. There had been excitement and joy, but also fear and trepedation. A bloodthirsty fox was on the lose, and StarClan knew many more would join their ranks through the canine's jaws if nothing was done about it soon. With that fox still around, it was imperitive that herbs remained in stock.
As the medicine cat, it was Pebblepool's duty to keep all the herbs in stock and fresh. She had gone through the stores earlier that morning, but had merely shuffled through them. Her head had been too full of StarClan's buzzing to truly concentrate. StarClan was all around her, in every cloud, in every leaf, in every dust particle. She was soulfully and deeply connected to the ancestors, but sometimes that was a distraction within itself.
Pebblepool had only been able to ignore the indecipherable chattering when the voice of her young apprentice, Feathersong, entered her ears. The elegant molly perked her ears forward and stood to her paws, entering a straight posture that perhaps only a queen would put herself in.
She soon slipped over to where Feathersong stood, green eyes trained on him as she spoke. "That gives us something to do today, then." Her voice was smooth and quiet, yet almost void of emotion, like she was speaking more so to a dead body than an actual living, breathing one. Before she could say more, if she had even been about to say anything else, a voice came from outside the den.
From the sounds of it, a young apprentice was seeking medicinal guidance. Pebblepool leaned forward and nudged Feathersong. "Seems you have a patient."

Briarsong had let herself wander away from the camp, she was unsure of her reasoning for leaving the camp, there was much that could've been done. Leafpaw needed further training, the fresh kill pile needed to be replenished, though starclan knows she alone didn't have the ability to accomplish that on her own, she wasn't a poor hunter but she wasn't great one either. Upon thinking about it she had realized she hadn't even bothered to ask Pebblepool if she needed any herbs restocked. "Mouse-brain.." she muttered quietly to herself. Brairsong sighed and took a deep breath in, and realized something smelled..odd. She started to follow the scent, which lead her towards the base of the volcano. Looking around she noticed a light colored tom, seemingly unaware of her presence..

[ oh gosh what a pretty layout- ]
Feathersong roleplaying with Feathertalon & 𝖘𝖆𝖚𝖈𝖎 𝖘𝖕𝖆𝖌𝖍𝖊𝖙𝖙𝖎
Keen ears angled themselves towards his mentor, nose wrinkling as it bumped against the ground. He had some...concerns for his mentor, but he supposed it was only natural for her to be lost with StarClan after their loss and the new beginning.
Their ancestors in the stars did not talk to him as often, but he was okay with that. While Pebblepool was here, she was the standing Medicine Cat, the stronger force between the two of them. He was constantly learning from her and he hoped that, in time, he would be able to have her strong connection. It was impressive and he hoped that, one day, he could follow in her pawsteps. In his heart, pride pooled - but her voice still concerned him, distant as it was. He turned his head to face in her direction though it was a pointless task, wished that he could study her but alas, he could not.
Another voice drifted to him and he took a moment to recognise it as Emberpaw - asking for him? He tensed only briefly when he was nudged, surprised by the movement. Then, he opened his mouth as if to argue - I'm not the Medicine Cat - but then he reconsidered it. It was best, he knew, to see to his patient and not ponder about why Pebblepool didn't do it. It was likely a minor injury at most, and it would be kind of him to allow his mentor the time to allow StarClan to settle. He nodded slowly and padded over to the other apprentice, tail gesturing for her to sit down.
His sharp nose picked up...traces of blood and dirt.
"A thorn?" he asked, "I need you to lift your paw for me, please, Emberpaw."
He took a moment to scent out a little pool of water in the dark log from previous rainfall - thank StarClan - and he dipped the edge of some moss in it before he settled back in front of the she-cat. "It's not too painful, is it?" really, he didn't want to have to deal with an infection on top of this. What was with the thorns in everyone's paws? There were rose bushes around the outside of Camp, so perhaps other cats weren't being careful enough. It made him huff with amusement, though it was quiet.
Could he talk to Pebblepool while he was working? Well, he was going to try.
"I think I scented some feverfew around the outskirts of the forest," he told her, "when I was out a couple of sunrises ago. Would that work?"

"Thanks," She said gratefully, without a trace of sarcasm in her voice, "Should I take a day off from training?" She questioned innocently. hoping the thorn would help her get out of training. She yawned, making the question sound less like she wanted to and more like she didn't, "I don't mean to press but..." She hesitated, "My paw probably needs some rest. I mean, your the medicine cat, I just wanted you to... like... hear my opinion."
She flicked her tail and looked out of the den at Ghostpaw. She felt her fur hot with embarrassment. She blinked and realized she should probably come to training with Ghostpaw to show her new hunting skills off, "You know what?" She looked up at the medicine cat, "My paw feels better already, thanks!"

Pebblepool medicine cat
It was good practice for Feathersong to tend to wounds on his own, no matter how minor. Pebblepool was a firm believer that learning was easier when one got to do it themselves with the guidance of a mentor. She even found it quite amusing how Emberpaw had directly asked for Feathersong himself. Was it because he was much younger than Pebblepool? They weren't far apart in age, and Pebblepool could only wonder if that made the warrior apprentice less intimidated by her own apprentice. It made sense to the medicine cat.
Throughout the interaction between Emberpaw and Feathersong, Pebblepool remained silent. She was there to offer a helping paw when needed, but she wasn't going to interfere in Feathersong's work. He was a fully trained medicine cat with a name to prove that, he could do as much as Pebblepool herself could. It was his time to shine right now, and as time went on, he would soon find himself practicing medicine by himself more often than not. One day he would be the sole medicine cat of MoltenClan. Pebblepool wouldn't be around forever, and that meant the young tom had to learn how to deal with injuries and sickness without Pebblepool always hovering over him like a mother bird.
She only spoke when Feathersong spoke to her.
Sitting down, she wrapped her tail tightly around her paws. Pebblepool nodded. "It will. Once you are finished with Emberpaw we can collect some stalks." It had been some time since Pebblepool had last needed to collect any feverfew. With that considered the herbs that naturally grew outside should be ready for harvesting. They had had plenty of time to grow and reproduce. There should be no trouble in collecting a few stalks here and there to restock their supplies.

Softfeather
Softfeather was strolling into camp, having just gotten back from getting a drink from the river. The heat was intense this new-leaf, and despite the fact that she was used to it by now, she somehow felt it was worse than it usually was. She licked her shoulders, grooming down the ruffled fur. To the side of camp near his den, she spotted Ashstar. He looked noble sitting in the shade, shadows casting behind him. She glanced over at the fresh-kill pile, and she couldn't help but notice that the pile was looking a bit low. A lot of the clan was busy currently, going about border patrols or resting in the shade, and she decided that it would be a good idea to see if Ashstar wanted her to take a patrol into the forest.
She strolled up, holding her head high and confidently. When she reached him, she averted her eyes to the fresh-kill pile before looking back at her leader. "Greetings, Ashstar. I couldn't help but notice that we are running a little low on prey. I was wondering if you'd like me to take out a patrol and stock it." Normally she wouldn't have to ask for permission, but there was a fox prowling around in Moltenclan's territory, and she wanted Ashstar to know what she was doing incase her patrol was ambushed by it. "You can even join if you'd like. I notice you haven't been out much since Sagestar was killed." Softfeather knew what it was like to feel such heavy grief after losing someone. Her mother had died when she was just a kit, and her father and brother passed shortly after that. She decreed she would never grow attached to another cat as long as she lived, and she basically shut off her feelings completely. Ever since then, death was merely a part of life, and she wasn't sad about it. "I don't think it would be good for our leader to succumb to depression so soon into his leadership" There was an edge in her voice. It was important for a leader to remain strong in times of trouble, and she didn't want to see Ashstar being weak. She respected him, and to her knowledge, he had never been weak up until this moment.

Ashstar roleplaying with dawn
While Sagestar's death weighed heavily on all, Ashstar felt less like he had lost a leader, and more like he'd lost a close family member. He remembered the days spent as an apprentice, when she had been Sagewhisker and she'd allowed him on patrols with her even if his mentor hadn't gone, when she'd entertained the young Ashpaw in his adventures, had laughed at him when he'd tumbled over himself, when he'd excitedly told her that he was going to become a leader some day - just you watch.
And then she was gone and it hurt, but he knew that he would be okay. When he'd received his nine lives, she'd smiled down on him as she'd gifted him with the life of ferocity, and it had been the most painful one. He'd known why, and so had she.
MoltenClan would be okay, and they would recover from this. Once the violent fox was tamed, they could go on with their lives. While a fox was not an entirely rare sight within the Clan's territory, it was rare for them to be so outwardly vicious. Perhaps it has kits, he pondered, but did not think on it too much. Instead, he chose to sit in the shade and watch over the camp, in a neat posture with perked ears. He'd served as the interim-leader in quarter-moon that Sagestar had so desperately clung to life, and being the true leader wasn't much different, he'd realised. Watching the Clan with a keen eye, ensuring that they were not suffering.
He would admit, though, that he'd overlooked the fresh-kill pile. Keeping limited stock on it when the days became hotter was essential; it began to rot far too quickly, so that meant that they had to eat it quicker. It had slipped his mind that, due to it being New Leaf, they would fall back into the habit of less prey on the pile. There were a couple of skinny mice, but nothing substantial. After a moment of considering it, Ashstar's gaze flicke to Softfeather and he twitched an ear idly.
"I hate to break it to you, but I've just come back from the Moon Stone," the Clan's sacred location, settled halfway up the mountain. Dangerous, yes - but well-hidden in the little hideout it was in. "I've only been back since moonhigh."
He'd also only left at sunhigh the previous day; the journey had been surprisingly quick, but then again, that was expected. He'd been there a few times to aid Sagestar as her age had pushed at her. Frankly, he'd never thought that she'd die from wounds; he'd thought for sure that he'd be too old to take the leader role once she finally decided to retire. An ongoing joke between the two of them, he'd often told her to just pass away and let him take over. When it had come to her death, he had been more hurt than he could have ever known. I'm surviving, he told himself firmly, and found that it was true.
"Don't worry," his tone was cool, with a sharp undertone, "I'm not succumbing to depression. I'm trying to let myself rest from my journey. Yes, you can go on a patrol; take a couple of apprentices with you while you're at it."
