"Hey, I'm looking forward to it. I'm used to working hard." He chuckled. "And by the way, thanks for the help. Not sure I would have found the way without you. I won't ask you to walk me all the way back to Tuel's tent, I'm guessing you're gonna avoid it if you can. But I'll see you around, and maybe soon enough I'll be in good enough shape to spar even you."

"See you around." Destrian gave a wave and headed off towards the healing tent. The memory of being bedridden for his first several days in the camp brought a sour taste to his mouth, but he set his jaw and carried on forwards, determined to show a proud face to the elven healer despite how intimidating she could be. As he neared the tent he took a breath, remembering that Neil had still promised to train him ,although possibly more gently, regardless of what Tuel instructed. He let out a slow steady breath, and entered the healing tent.

Destrian smiled to himself, shaking his head. "Fortunately, I don't think so, but I do require you to determine for certain how well I've continued caring for my injury in the absence of your expertise." He figured Tuel would most likely not be happy that he was wanting to get back to active so quickly, but he at least hoped that his leg was healing as strong as it felt like. If anyone could be certain, it was the elf.

Destrian gave a smirk, "Just can't keep me away from danger. But yes, I would like to train, and require you to sign off on that." Best to just give it upfront.

Destrain obliged, sitting on the edge of one of the beds that was tucked neatly into the tent. He recalled his first entry into this tent, and how delerious he'd been, racked with pain and exhaustion. He took a long, slow breath, trying not to focus on it, and set his crutches to the side, awaiting Tuel to start her examination.

"Well, I've only walked when necessary," Destrian began, recalling the events of the past couple of days. "Between my tent and the mess hall, and back again mostly. Only within the camp really, though I doubt you'd expect more I guess. This morning I walked to the training grounds, and then I headed here. I planned on taking the rest of the day pretty easy. It hasn't been hurting as much, but it is definitely sore from walking today." He truly hoped that the sound was on the tail end of healing, though, perhaps there was enough light work for Neil to give him that he could stay occupied regardless. "I really just need you to give the okay that I'm good to start training. Obviously if there were ever any issues, I'd trust you and be back here right quick."

Ignoring whatever Tuel had muttered, Destrian beamed brightly. "That's wonderful, thank you so much! And..." he paused, choosing his words, "Thank you for helping me. I know it's your job and all, but you were one of the first good experiences since my life fell apart. I appreciate it." He waited a bit impatiently for her to finish wrapping everything back up, grabbing up his crutch already rearing to go.

"Absolutely!" Destrian beamed, nodding, and pushed himself to standing with the crutch. "In fact, I'll get out of your hair right away, if you are satisfied with your examination?" He was honestly just inwardly eager to go back and start training.

///How about we can do a scene in the... command tent? Artur/Varik sending out the scout group to Whitewater. I'm thinking Destrian definitely has already volunteered for it, or does at this point. would love to set up that group, and then we can move to them actually doing the scouting?///

Varik was sitting in his commend tent, a group of thirteen men facing him. This was the bulk of the search party he was sending out to Whitewater. The changes of finding any survivors were slim, but if they could help even one person there, he would count it as a success. The only problem was find the two last people he needed. Hammer and Dagger, who were both present and going on said expedition, had passed on the information that Destrian would like to go with them, but he was hesitant. Sure, the man as from there and would likely help make contact with any people hiding in the woods, but last he heard, the man was still recovering from a leg wound. Still, if he could ride a horse, he might not slow the group down too much. And there was word that he had begun training with a staff.
The Battle Commander glanced up and made eye contact with Hammer. "How well do you trust this Destrian to lead the scouts on this trip?" The hidden message of his words: Do you think he can be trusted not to lead them into a trap?

Hammer was quiet for just a moment before speaking up, seeming to choose his words, directing them not only at Varik, but at the rest of those gathered as well. "The man Destrian came to our camp as one fleeing the war. He was presented as any of us are, with an option to leave that be as is. Within a day of meeting him, however, I saw him accept his place in this world, not as a refugee, but as a warrior. His determination strikes me as something to be in awe of. The injury he sustained does not hold him back in his training for pure strength of will. And the fellowship that my brother Dagger and I have shared with him yields no signs of wavering in his thoughts. He seems to have one hope, and that is to serve the Primers in vengeance against the evils of the King."

Varik listened, his expression giving nothing away. He knew hammer wouldn't lie or exaggerate the skills of anyone, let alone a man he had only knew for a short time. Eventually, he nodded. "Very well. I'll let you go tell him he is to be the guide on this expedition. Have him be ready to leave in the morning," he said. Then turned to one of his pages. "Now I just need a tracker." He had two in mind, Carson, a man of fifty and who had been doing this work for the majority of his life, and Thayer, young but who shows a great deal of skill in ths craft. The battle master turned to one of his paige's, snapping his fingers to get his attention. "Run and fetch Carson, he said, figuring expierance would be the better way to go. Though the man was very blunt and straightforward, he got his jobs done well.
(I forgot if we wanted Thayer to go. If we do, you can have one of the brothers suggest she go instead. If not, we'll play it as is.)

///Up to you, I think it would work well though.///
Dagger, who had been standing just beside Hammer, spoke up then. "Master Varik, if I may interject," he said, stepping forwards and raising his fist to his chest in a motion of Dwarven respect, "Carson may be better suited to the camp patrols. The last thing we should do is to leave the camp with less manpower." He lowered his voice, "Especially if the king's men gain any intel that this mission is taking place."

Varik tilted his in acknowledgment of his points. "And I am loath to send this many out on this trip, but if there are any of the King's men still hanging around, I don't want to take a chance," he replied. "And the fact remains that you will need a tracker, and that will still leave us with one scout short. So if not Carson, then who would you recommend?" His tone was inquiring, not condescending. Nothing created I'll feelings worse than a commander talking down to his men, Varik knew. So whenever his men had something to add to plans or discussions, he tried to let them speak uninterrupted if he could.

"If I may, I recommend Thayer for this endeavor. She excels at tracking in the type of terrain that we will be facing, and she also has spent time with the man Destrian. They will work well together to scout the area. And Thayer is... better suited to being outside the camp, in my experience. She will appreciate being put on this mission and will put in her wholehearted effort." Hammer concluded with another salute, firm in his belief, but aware that such a request could still easily be put aside. Carson was just as capable, and had more experience too. The argument could be made either way. Truthfully, he had never liked the old tracker, and if he was going to be stuck in the mud and trees with a group of people for an extended trip, he'd rather it be someone he liked being around.

Hammer and Dagger both gave their salute, fists to their chests, then turned and filed out of the tent after the others.
"Good call on suggesting Thayer for the search, brother," Hammer murmured to the slightly taller Half-Dwarf that walked by his side. "I am sure she will appreciate you sticking your neck out like that. And, she will surely be better company than that old mud-lump Carson," He gave a low chuckle, but glanced around, hoping nobody else had heard that last part.
The both of them headed quickly to their tent, ready to finish packing their supplies, and to make sure Destrian was ready to go as well.
