///xD You're fine. I kinda make a lot of it up as I go, but I feel like a lot of their culture and mindset is about friendship, honor and respect///
Destrian gave a shrug. "I can always start off simple until I'm completely healed. I just don't want to waste time anymore."
Dagger spoke up, "Thank you, Master Varik. We regret we did not arrive in time for yesterday's... incident. We are ready to server, however, in whatever ways you require. My brother and I have trained hard in the North and are as tough and strong as any Man or Orc. Put our muscles to their fullest use."
///Did we want to have there be any drama about how the Royal Soldiers were let into camp, or was it simply that the Primers just didn't expect anything like that?///

(Easy enough to understand. XD Though, if I ever am lacking in culture, just tell me. I feel like I create elf culture better. Haven't really had a lot of experience with dwarven culture much.)
Thayer nodded to his logic, not going to fault him in that. Even injured, there were still ways he could start training. "So you're joining us then?" she asked. He never stuck her as the kind to involve himself in the fight. Of course, he had more reasons to fight than she did considering what had happened to his home town, but she didn't think he would take up the call to arms.
"That I intend to do," Varik replied, a small smile playing on his face at their response. "There's actually a couple of tasks that I think you two will be right for. Whether you work together or split the work, either is fine. Just make sure you both are on the same page and let me know which ones you will be taking first. Some is scout work, another is securing resources. After yesterday's attack, we need to be sure that the medical supplies we have coming from the east haven't been tempered with or destroyed. Truthfully, I would recommend the supply task first at the moment. The scout work was a spur of the moment decision and can wait until we know our camp isn't going to be falling prey to the king."
(I'll never turn down a chance to add some drama. With a camp this size, it wouldn't be surprising if the king didn't have a spy or two in their midst.)

"I'm joining you," Destrian agreed with a smile. He looked around the camp. "So, with that, where should I be off to?" he chuckled.
Hammer nodded. "We will help our bothers and sisters in whatever ways you require. Supplies are always needed when at war. Just tell us what is needed and we shall see to it."

Destrian brightened. "I'll do that, then!" He paused for a moment. "Thank you, Thayer. For everything. You've really made me feel welcome here." He smiled, and hobbled away with a little bit less limp than earlier.
"Thank you, Master Varik." Dagger saluted in the dwarven custom. One more thing, however, if you have a moment. A new fellow in camp, a refugee. He and the archer Thayer have some good insight I think you'd be good hearing. I'll let them speak it to you, but would recommend summoning them. That is all." He bowed then, and Hammer followed suit, but they waited to be dismissed.

"And while you do that, I'll be in my tent, sleeping," Thayer responded, grinning. As much as she would like to be there and help him navigate through the training, she knew if she didn't take the chance to sleep now, there might not be another chance. It was like that even before the attack on the camp. Jobs changed and things happened all the time. No one had a set schedule, so people learned to sleep, eat, and whatnot whenever they could manage. "Don't take me yet. You might not like it here once training begins," she told him, joking of course. Her eyes followed him as she left, noting the change in his walk. There was a determination there that hadn't been there in previous days. He would do fine with the training, that the woman was sure of. Turning, Thayer resumed the journey to her tent.
Varik inclined his head a bit. Thayer had been the one to tell him of the possible scout and rescue mission he was considering the two brother's for. It had been a request for said new fellow of the camp, Destrian if he remembered correctly. There were far too many names for him to keep track of sometimes. "I'll bear that in mind. Thank you. Now, if that is all, see to those supplies."

"Absolutely, Master Varik," Hammer and Dagger bowed together, and exited the tent. Hammer leading the way, they marched off to carry out the orders.
Destrian made his way to the training grounds, and stopped just outside the small open area where there were a few pairs of people sparring. One pair in particular caught his eye, and he recognized the Elf Marshal of the camp, Chaia was her name. She moved incredibly gracefully, making use of both her sword and shield and the blows flashed and steel rang against steel.
///Wanna have one of the other Marshals sparring her, or just a different character?///

With the tent empty once more, Varik returned to the task as hand. There was just too many things to take care of, and not enough time. Sighing, he set back to work.
(We can have the Orc Marshal, Xago, sparing her. Could be entertaining. XD)
Chaia's sparring partner for the morning was Xago. It wasn't often when the two sparred. Usually it was Artur who would pick mock fights with the woman. The Human Marshal was currently in a personal quest of besting the woman in battle. He himself, however, much more enjoyed the rhythm and challenge a fight brought with it, even if it was just for practice. The orc was one who could appreciate the beauty that laid in the art of battle, and it was certainly art when Chaia was his opponent. For the sparring match, he had chosen a similar weapon as the elf had, giving him no advantage as far as weapon was concerned. Where she was all grace, he was strength. That wasn't to say he bumbled around. It was quiet the opposite. Xago had his own grace that he acquired over the years, but it wasn't as mesmerizing as watching the elf. Elves had that quality about them in general.

Chaia didn't exactly taunt Xago as they fought, but she kept up banter here and there, commenting about both his moves and her own. "You seem more Elven by the day, Xago-- MY! What a beautiful parry! Cut! Thrust! Use that sword with your soul! Oh, fight like you mean it!" She fell back, stalking a quiet half circle around the Orc, before dashing in again. "Oh, foolish me! Of course you should anticipate my jumps. But does the wind not shift north in cold? Ah, this blade will be no use to me if I am not the best! Kyahh!"
Destrian watched, half amazed at the obvious skill of both Marshals, but also somewhat amused at the Elf's chatter. A few others had stopped to watch the pair, even in the midst of their own duels, people turned and eyed the pair even if only for a moment between practice strikes. He looked around, inspecting the area more closely. There was a decent sized tent off to the right side, housing a variety of training weapons and a water barrel, with some crude benches set just under the cover of the meager shade. On the opposite side, there was a tall pole that Destrian guessed was for climbing, along the left side was a small archery range. Destrian thought for a moment about Thayer and wondered what she was up to for a moment before the clash of steel brought him back to present.

Throughout the banter, Xago chuckled, a deep, rumbling sound that resonated from his barreled chest. "Seems like you use your words more than your sword, Chaia," he would retaliate and follow up with a new combination of slashes and jabs. The sparring match had been going on for a good while now, but he didn't even appear to be out of breath.
"Don't get more entertaining than this," a female voice spoke. A half-elven woman had walked up to Destrian as he stood there watching the match. She was dressed like many of the other people in camp: simple pants and tunics, light leather armor, and a weapons belt that support an ordinary sword on her hip. She watched the two Marshals for a moment before turning to look at the man. "Judging by that leg of yours, I'd say you're here for just that. Growing a bit bored in the medical tent, heh?"

Destrian looked over and tried not to blush as he stuttered over his excuse. "I uh-- I was, well I wanted... I thought..." He trailed off. "I wanted to learn to fight, actually." he said quietly. "If anyone is willing to teach me. I know I can't do much right now, but I'll still try. I have to try." He said finally, determined.

Destrian nodded gratefully. He figured it would be a bit more difficult to get started, but maybe Niel would be able to give him some good direction. And this lady seemed nice and willing to help as well. He was glad for how welcoming everyone here was, despite him showing up not too long ago. "I'd appreciate it. I'm Destrian by the way," he said, extending a hand. "And you are?"

Destrian followed on his crutch, taking another look around the training grounds. The Half-Elf was right, everyone there seemed engaged with each other, but there was no real instruction going on. And there were fewer people there overall than he expected. Maybe just the wrong time of day, he mused, hobbling after El.

El kept her usual face past slow so Destrian could keep up, which was a feat in itself. Normally the woman could be seen going ninety miles a minute. Once they reached the tent, she gave a series of knocks on the wooden post outside to signal their presence. "Master, Neil, are you busy?" she called out.
"Busy is an understatement," came the gruff reply, "but I guess I can spare a second. Come in, El. What do you need."
"It's not me, this time," El told him. She gestured for Destrian to follow as she stepped into the tent. Though the interior was lit by several lanterns, it was much dimmer than the morning light outside. There were no desks anywhere in sight. The only thing that could have been taken for one is a small round table shoved into one corner, covered in papers. Instead, the space was taken by a large map hanging from one side, weapons, both training and real, and armor racks, as well as several put together sparring dummies. By the map stood Master Neil, an average height human with graying blonde hair. There wasn't much to take in about him. If it wasn't for the sword strapped to his hip, he would have looked more like a farmer than a swords master.

"Destrian, son of T'Aaos of the White Woods, sir." Destrian stepped forward and bowed his head in greeting. "I'd like to train to be a Primer, if you would allow it." Destrian tried to put confidence in his voice, but doubt was starting to creep in. He glanced to either side. He barely knew any of these people, how could he go around doing things like this?! But still, it felt right. He knew Thayer somewhat at least, and Hammer and Dagger seemed to be nice. El had been friendly with him from the beginning. He may not know them all yet, but the Primers were all a family. A family he wanted to be a part of.

Destrian took a breath and pushed himself upright. "I suppose I'll be able to work my way out of them. That's what they're for after all, to support me until my leg heals. And if I train in the meantime, I'll have a head start on it anyways. I may not be able to run yet, but I'll train hard as anyone. I know I have a lot to learn, but my body is fit as any farmer you'll find. Just teach me to channel that into a weapon. The people here... The people of this land, all of us, we deserve to live in peace together. I want to fight for that. I want to fight to ensure security for my friends, and to avenge those I've lost in this madness. My leg may be injured for now, master Niel, but my heart remains strong."

(One of maybe many. XD)
He liked the words that Destrian spoke, even if he didn't let that show on his face. There was a determination there that he could work with. It might not be easier to work with, but he had shaped worse men than this one into decent soldiers. If nothing else, he might be able to find an area where the young man would be most useful if fighting turned out to not be his strong suit. Niel remained as stoic and unreadable as he continued his questions. "And do you have any experience with a weapon?" he asked. "Even farmers know how to wield a pole arm when times call for it. Have you any knowledge of blade work? Archery? Or even a brawler's reputation with your fists?" Most people would have one or two reactions whenever he asks this question. They would either proudly boast of their training or suddenly lose their confidence when admitting to their lack of experience. Now, ever now and then, a humble soul would walk through, but, as mentioned before, few would be denied. It would only be after he worked with them for a while that he would decide to refuse their aid as soldiers.

Destrain nodded slowly. "I've used a staff many a time against unwanted predators of our chickens and goats, and I'd wager a shiny coin I could stab somebody with a spear straight as I hoe a row of corn." He set his jaw, and resolved to not say anything further about his multiple failed attempts at learning any kind of weaponry. He could learn something else if need be, but he'd rather stick to his strengths.

///This is day five, right? or six? lol I don;t even remember. Let's pretend it's 6 for the sake of things xD///
Destrian let him finish the string of questions before speaking up again. "I was hit by a stray arrow while fleeing from a group of bandits, a week ago now. Tuel kept me cooped up until a couple days ago, but I'm definitely feeling better by the day. I hope to be rid of these crutches in a couple more days. I plan on giving Tuel a visit tomorrow, to make sure everything is healing properly." He decided to leave it at that, an explanation with a bit of a plan attached. Truthfully, he hadn't put much thought into it until Niel had asked.

"Good," Neil muttered, nodding his head. "You go see what Túel thinks of your wound, and come tell me what she says. If she gives her approval, then we'll work on a starting point. If she doesn't, then we'll do it anyway." The man gave a small smile. "Just don't mention to her that I said that. Now, off you go. I don't have the time to stand here discussing it at the moment. Rest assured, however, that I will put some thought into integrating you into the training. Just don't be disappointed if you can't start right away."
