"Huh... Well, our mom made us run and hide from any other living being other than prey," Patterpaw recalled, "so that's probably why no one else knew we were there. We only saw, like, a couple of cats up there, anyway. Grr, I was so mad when she ran away from even those other cats!" He tilted his ears back slightly in annoyance. "I get that she was trying to keep us safe, but come on...." Turning to Indigobright, he tipped his head briefly in thought before adding, "Yeah, it kind of was, actually. Compared to here, there wasn't much food or shelter. I wanna say it was at least livable, but considering our mom didn't even make it...." He trailed off, his tail falling to the ground.

"I'm glad your mother kept you away from that tribe. No one deserves to experience what she's made me endure." Ravenheart mewed to Patterpaw. "There's a cave across the mountain that was just big enough for the members of the tribe to take shelter, but prey is a bit scarce and mountain lions are more common."
Foxpaw-Patrol
"Have you ever seen a mountain lion?" Foxpaw asked curiously. "I haven't had a chance to fight one yet." she added way too eagerly.

"I have seen a mountain lion, and I've seen what they can do." the tom mewed, flinching slightly at the thought. "One of them can kill a group of trained cats by itself, so take a moment to think about what it could do to an apprentice."

"Ok, ok, I won't fight one!" Foxpaw exclaimed, shocked by her mentor's sudden change of tone. She flattened her ears and dipped her head apologetically. She secretly hoped that her bout of reckless ambition hadn't earned her a one-way ticket to checking Russetshade for ticks.

Indigobright exhaled shakily, shaking her pelt out. "Thank you, Foxpaw." She mewed. "I'm sorry if I scared you, but this is very serious. Nightpaw is only an apprentice, and I highly doubt that what with the recent casualties from the fox attack, they'd appreciate patching up a silly apprentice who decided to fight a mountain lion. On top of that, you're a promising young cat, and I'd hate for you to be gone so soon. Tomorrow, we can do some battle training if you like, but definitely no fighting mountain lions!"

Sparrowstar trotted out of the woods, panting slightly from her brisk trip across the territory. Seeing the group of warriors up ahead, she slowed her pace, squaring her shoulders and drawing herself up regally—all the while carefully scanning her clanmates up and down for any sign of injury. “Hello,” she interrupted as she approached, her voice clipped but friendly. She stopped beside her clannates and greeted the pair of patrols with a dip of her head. “I am Sparrowstar. All of you must be from Flameclan?”

Sparrowstar smiled at the anxious warrior before turning her focus back to Darkstar, letting a bit of her wariness melt away. “It’s lovely to meet all of you—though I’m a bit surprised that we never have before.” She smiled wryly. “It must be a sign that our clans will get along well.”

Foxpaw looked at Sparrowstar curiously, but didn't say anything else. Her claws played with the earth during the brief introduction, being more like fidgeting than aggression.
Ravenheart-Patrol
Ravenheart gave his chest fur a few embarrassed licks as Sparrowstar glanced at him. He could feel the warmth of awkwardness envelop his body as he stammered.

"I'm sorry that Flameclan has seen such troubling times," Sparrowstar replied, feeling a pang of sympathy for the strangers. "Our former border clans have seen troubling times in the past; it seems that no clan is safe these days." The she-cat sighed, choosing her words carefully. Though she could detect no threat from the Flameclan warriors, the lingering ache of the rogue battle combined with the recent border skirmishes left her reluctant to advertise her clan's weaknesses. "I hope that you will all find peace here; you are welcome to any space outside of Sparrowclan territory to make your home."

“This is our border as well,” Sparrowstar replied in a slightly clipped tone, though she quickly smoothed over her irritation and smiled. There’s no place for over-sensitivity in diplomacy, she reminded herself firmly. “So that should work just fine. I wish you the best in your new territory; how are you settling in?” She added mildly.

Foxpaw did her best to be patient, but the longer the leaders spoke, the harder it was. As far as she was concerned, all the interesting things had already happened, and she was ready to get going. Not wanting to irritate the other clan, however, she forced herself to stand still and wait. That is, apart from her tail which was ever so slightly flicking with impatience.
Ravenheart-Patrol
Ravenheart was relieved to see that no cat had started a fight thus far. The last thing he wanted was another fight and another war. He had already seen enough of that, and he was perfectly okay with living without it. But even if everything was peaceful for the time being, he couldn't help but secretly fear for the worst in the future. As long as we don't cross the border, it'll be fine.

Firestrike watched quietly as the leaders spoke, biting his tongue to keep from cutting in with any inept remarks. The tip of his tail twitched with impatience as he let his gaze trail over the Flameclan warriors, doing his best to commit his new border-mates to memory.
"That's good to hear," Sparrowstar replied with a dip of her head, allowing a small smile to flit across her muzzle. "If you do need anything, Sparrowclan will do our best to help." With a glance at her warriors, the lightly speckled she-cat drew herself into a standing position. "I'm sure we'll have occasion for another meeting soon," she added by way of farewell. "The two of us still have plenty to discuss, but I'd hate to keep the patrols any longer."

“The same to you,” Sparrowstar purred, brushing her tail briefly across her spine. “I look forward to seeing more of your clan.” Turning to her warriors, she added, “Let’s head back to camp. We should update the clan.”

Patterpaw spun around to bound alongside his Clanmates, quivering in excitement. "That was so cool!" he burst out to no one in particular. "We made some new friends! I can't wait to learn more about them!"
