okay so I'm a psychology major and when people ask me to do surveys and such, I usually say yes. I know how difficult it is to get people to participate. And y'know only good karma can come from helping another psych major out. Anyway, there was this huge table set up with like... A board people were writing on and questions that seemed kind of similar to what a psych major may ask. So when I got asked to take the survey I was like ok cool. They segway into a quote by Jesus and just... I'm not against religion or anything, I just never really practiced anything. I don't really have any interest in it. But I was too awkward to try and get out of the whole show. So they hand me a card to fill out basically rating their performance. It asked for my on campus address and email address so my dumb self filled it out. I was like eh maybe I'm interested. I'll think about it.A week later, last night, they literally showed up at my door. They said they were my friends. So my room mate let them into our living room. And they just stayed there for like 30 minutes telling me about their bible study meetings and when I could go to them. That totally turned me off the whole thing???? Yeah that's weird and pushy. Those guys don't represent all Christians, please know that. Sorry that happened.

my friend's dad threatens them with a shotgun. they've stopped coming around. My mom tries to give them a Book of Mormon cx My friend's dad used to invite them to dinner and then debate them. I say "used to" because they stopped coming after a while.

We've had a few come around once in a while. I've never opened the door to it but. My grandpa's like sure, pulls out his bible and begins quoting things to them. Eventually they just leave.

Also, Saint Ambrosef , that thread threw me off, too. Why can't you just be flattered when someone gives you a (however odd) compliment? Why make a big deal of it? "It's not a compliment." It was probably intended as one? Sorry you didn't take it that way. Leave it at that. I didn't comment, of course. Never does any good. But I get what you were saying. There are stereotypes for people of pretty much every walk of life. Being from Kentucky, I can relate to a lot of what you said.

Their minds probably won't be changed by any argument anyway Yeah. I made a sort of sarcastic comment on a thread and ended up deleting it. I feel like we have to remember not to engage in conversation that will inevitably end without resolve and in anger and resentment (speaking in terms of secular matters of course).

I know they don't represent everyone (or the majority for that matter) but it's just... I don't know. I was actually serious about considering it but now I'm totally off-put and don't want to go. They're the only club like that on campus though xD So I'm just like ???? What do.
I'm not comfortable just showing up at a church like Forgive My Sins God. Having that bible study thing on campus would've been a nice place to go and see what it was actually like though. Kind of a transitional place??? A place to test the waters, see if it is for me???
But rip

But rip Gg evangelists, turning people off to the Bible by invading their homes smh Idk I think if you're really interested, you can probably find a good church near you that you can go to a few times and see how you like it. You don't have to show up and immediately convert; in my experience most churches are pretty good at letting people just learn about the Bible and "test the waters" without trying to force them to instantly get saved.

But rip no i get what you mean
i mean, i would honestly recommend going to a church service. not one of the evangelical churches if you can help it, because they tend to be very alert to new faces. if you want to go to one but remain sort of unnoticed by everyone else, i would suggest a big church or high-church (i.e. Catholic, Anglican, Episcopalian, etc). you're very unlikely to draw attention to yourself in those, which makes it easier to focus on the service itself rather than being conspicuous or worrying about what those around you think of you
but if you're not ready yet, yeah, a bible study might be good. you could see if you can find another member of the club and check them out, to see what other members are like. it might help.

Is that your nickname for me? Cause I like it.
Doing pretty good, trying to get homework done while browsing the forums. My roommate saw my computer on and open to this thread earlier which I thought would just end up awkwardly, but he wanted to give you and everyone here a thumbs up for the thread.
How are you doing?
