He is risen indeed! (My church did that whole thing this morning, but I forgot to say “indeed”, so I’m redeeming myself now.)

What do you guys think of Jesus Christ, Superstar? It's very hipster. I saw it in grade school when it was popular during a showing somewhere in the desert and I felt somewhat uncomfortable watching it. Cant say I remember too much of it though.

Hey guys. I would really appreciate some prayers because I feel like I’m becoming depressed and I’m losing my motivation to do pretty much anything. Things are just really difficult for me because I’ve never gone through something like this and I can’t seem to find hope.

I will pray for you Dawn and I will also pray for your sister Thorn. Car crashes are very scary. I got in one like four weeks ago (someone rear eneded me pretty hard) and I was very catious the first day back on the road and when I went back on the interstate for the first time since it happened, I death gripped the steering wheel and never stopped looking in my rearview mirror because I was terrified that someone was going to crash into the back of me. It was still dark out and a semi was on my butt before it passed me and I was sweating bullets.

Hey everyone. I need to vent for a moment, if that's all right with you. I don't even remember how I got here, but I stumbled across a supposed "christian" website that left me in tears tonight. I'm normally not that emotional, but this website really disturbed me. I personally feel as though the author has taken scripture out of context to justify abusive behavior. Here are some examples of things I've found on there: - Husbands have absolute control over everything their wives do. Women get no say in anything, and if they don't "submit" to everything their husbands command then they are the sinners. If your husband is abusing you, it isn't your place to speak up or leave because only God has the right to say whether your husband is neglectful or not.
- People should stay in abusive relationships, because by staying you might change your abusers heart and make them turn over a new leaf by being compassionate and patient with them. You should also stay because Jesus endured the abuse on the cross.
- Husbands have the right to punish their wives by taking things away from them, forbidding them to see people, or even spanking them. Yes, I'm serious. Basically husbands have the right to punish their wives like you'd punish a misbehaving child. Wives, of course, can't punish their husbands though or that is sinning.
- Women are sex objects for men, and if you disagree with this or feel upset by this then you're sinning for not accepting God's role for you. But of course there was no mention of the opposite on there. Not that there should be, but I find that so telling in and of itself.
- Women must have sex with their husbands no matter what, and if you don't want to you're sinning even if you have a good reason not to. Men on the other hand can basically do whatever they want and it isn't a woman's place to question him, and by doing so she is sinning.
- Women should get married and have children as young as 14, and it's only because of the terrible, sinful, world that we don't do this anymore.
- Men are allowed to abuse their wives and children as long as their lives aren't at risk. So you can slap your childen and wife around for disobeying you and that's okay because they deserved it for acting up.
- Women are to be treated as second class citizens.
There's a ton more, but you get the idea. The entire website was basically demonizing women for everything, basically telling them to shut up and sit down because everything is their fault. It was just really upsetting as a believer to read all of this. It makes me sick when people try to use the bible to justify behavior like this. The bible tells us that husbands should love their wives as Christ loves the church and gave Himself up for her. None of these things sound like that at all. I would like to hear other people's thoughts on this. Like I said earlier, I normally don't get upset but this website really hit me hard.

Sounds like a Quiverfull-esque movement.
There are some patriarchal branches of ""Christianity"" that cherry-pick verses of scripture out of context and use them to justify their own abusive, misogynist behavior over women. Worse, because it's supposedly the Holy Word of God, they then convince some women that it's the true Way of living as ordained by God. It uses fear to subdue women and empower men.
Christ was willing to be beaten, tortured, humiliated, spat upon, jeered at, stripped naked, and die the most painful death imaginable (slow suffocation over 3 hours) for his bride, the Church. So when scripture says that a husband is suppose to love his wife as Christ loves the Church, this is the self-sacrifice and devotion called for. It's not power. It's not an easy job. It's a grave responsibility. A willingness to put your family's well being and spiritual salvation before your own, just as Jesus died on behalf of his own bride's salvation.
Unfortunately I've had dealings with similarly deluded Christians before, and it's honestly heartbreaking to see such a loving dedication twisted beyond recognition into something so ugly. Usually these people cannot be convinced. The best chance to prevent further abusive marriages is to educate the women and children sucked into such "movements" so that these bitter men never have wives to marry or children to raise.
I once watched an hour long interview with a "survivor" of the quiverfull movement (she grew up under it but escaped when she went to college). It's pretty awful, but her story gives me hope that others will recognize the wrong around them and similarly leave it behind.
The good news is that such Christians make up a tiny, tiny portion of our religion.

Oh my gosh that's horrible!
I believe that when people say these types of things, unbelievers see it and they use that as a reason why they want nothing to do with this "Jesus thing".

What's even worse is that the guy who runs the website says he gets emails all the time from people who were interested in Christianity, but stumbled across his website and changed their mind and decided they wanted nothing to do with it. And he just laughed it off like it was no big deal. He just blamed feminism for women not wanting to submit and do what they're supposed to. The whole website just made me sick to my stomach

I believe this is the same interview I watched awhile ago that I mentioned.
It's certainly an eye-opener, and a little hard to hear, but I would definitely giving it a listen. Even if only for 10 or 15 minutes.

Yeah I once got into a conversation with an atheist who was raised Jehovahs witness by an abusive mother who justified what she did with religion. From what I pieced together, this affected her a lot. These kinds of things are horrible. I've observed that so called christians who justify sin/wrongdoing/warped desires with holy scripture, their religion, or whatever holy authority do more damage to others and themselves than those who justify themselves by other means.

Saint Ambrosef Thanks for the link. I'll check it out right away. I don't know why, but I went on that website again and I came across the dumbest comment I have ever seen. This comes from a commenter, and not the site owner, but it was still so appalling it left me in shock. I really hope this was made by a troll, but after reading some of the other comments on this site I wouldn't be surprised if this was serious. I just find it so insensitive to compare someone being frustrated over not being able to find their car keys to the abuse and torture that Jesus went through for us. Like how could you ever think the two are comparable at all? I honestly feel like these guys have a god complex or something, because a lot of them seem to imply that they're on the same level as God so they have ultimate control and dominance. I just had to share this, because it was so baffling that someone would even think to say that. Like after everything Jesus went through for us, you undermine it by comparing it to some petty punishment to get back at someone? I'm done after this but this comment was just so crazy to me I had to share
