(Here's Carter. I know it's 'eh' but I'm honestly too tired to be writing or starters. I'll get up riley and Sophia tomorrow and there's should be better. Anyone can feel free to respond to Carter if they want. If not, I've got two more opening up tomorrow)
Carter was woken much too early by the sound of his mother's alarm. The boy covered his head with his pillow as he listened to her move around, trying to be as quiet as possible. However, Carter knew it was useless to try and fall back asleep. He already had enough trouble falling asleep the first time, and he knew he could never fall back asleep when his slumber was disturbed.
He listened as she finished up in her bedroom and headed out into the apartment. Then the sound of the door opening and closing and Carter knew he was alone. He sat up in bed and looked around at the small room he was confined to, though he wasn't sure 'bedroom' was the right word. It was no more than a glorified closet and he had to wonder what its original purpose was because he couldn't see someone purposefully designing a bedroom this small. It may be small, but it offered Carter some sort of privacy, and that's all he really needed. He loved his mom. Heck, he loved her more than anything else in this stupid world, but he still enjoyed his alone time.
The boy's icy blue eyes landed on the worn black backpack in the corner of his room and he was reminded what day it was. Great... The last place I want to be he thought as he climbed out of bed and dug around through the small pile of clothes in his room. He grabbed a t-shirt that he'd 'borrowed' from an old friend that no longer talked to him and pulled on a pair of jeans and tennis shoes. The shoes were the nicest thing he owned, a gift for his sixteenth birthday. He'd felt horrible knowing how much his mom had spent on him when he'd spent the day with friends, participating in everything from graffiti to shoplifting. But he couldn't argue, not when he saw how proud she was to have bought her son something nice for his birthday. It had taken Carter forever to get up the nerve to wear them. He rarely got anything new and he hadn't wanted to ruin them, but they were now his favorite pair of shoes.
He just shook his head before grabbing the bag and swinging it over one shoulder. Making his way to the bathroom, Carter carefully brushed his teeth and ran his fingers through his hair to tame it a little bit. Though he didn't look too terrible for the first day of school, it was impossible to miss the ugly black eye and bruised cheek coloring his face. He'd gotten into a nasty fight a day or two before, not that that wasn't expected for Carter. He was a known fighter. He didn't take anything from anyone and wasn't afraid to let people know that. If they knew, then they'd just leave him and his mother alone and that's all he wanted. Connie Klein was too good to face the harshness of high schoolers and Carter knew how hard she worked to support him. He even made his own contributions when he could.
Carter then headed back to his room and grabbed his house key from his bedside table and made his way out of the apartment, locking the door behind him (not that the Klein apartment had anything worth stealing). It was still dark out as Carter made his way down the hall and out the front door. As he walked down the sidewalk in the direction of his school, Carter once again reflected on how much he hated high school. It seemed useless when he didn't even plan to go to college. He knew his mother wanted him to go and give himself a better life than she had, but Carter wasn't cut out for that. He could barely survive high school. In fact, if it was up to him, he'd drop out. He knew that wasn't an option. Yes, he could contribute more money to his mother, but he would disappoint her if he dropped out. She wanted what was best for him.
He snorted at the thought. She had a lot more faith in him than he did.
Carter made his way into school, pushing the doors open and shouldering past many other students. He was small for his age and very, very low on the social ladder, but that didn't let Carter stop him as he made his way to his locker. Instead, he let it fuel him. He stopped at the same locker he occupied the years before and spun in his familiar combination. He unloaded his school supplies before filling his backpack with only the basics, what he knew he couldn't survive the first day of school without. There wasn't much that he needed it.
Once he was done, Carter slammed his locker door shut and raised a certain finger at un upperclassman that had approached him and began to make fun of the nasty black eye that he wore with, in a way, pride. It showed that he was not one to be messed with. Carter was small, but he's grown up fighting. He had no problem with bigger guys that got a little arrogant and thought they could beat on anyone smaller than him. No, the issue was bigger guys that knew what they were doing. Even then, Carter occasionally found himself the victor. Of course, that was also the kind of guy that had given him the additions to his face. Luckily, the kid didn't attend this school because Carter would've wasted no time picking another fight. He didn't exactly learn his lesson quickly.
Carter sighed and turned to face the halls which were becoming more and more crowded with students as time went by. He didn't want to be here, but he didn't have an option. He let out a deep sigh before plunging into the wild depths of high school.

Albany Dohman // angry gurl
That monotone voice, the way she sounded so bored and so indifferent really made Albany mad. How dare she? Albany thought, internally seething with something similar to hate. She didn't even know this girl and she hated her.
Albany gritted her teeth, listening to the other girl speak, tempted to remove her hand from her backpack and smack this girl across the face. What a wonderful start to the year it would be. She could imagine it now, sitting in the principal's office, her legs and arms crossed, a look of defiance across her face.
In her mind, she remembered a time last year when she had hit a kid for saying something about her and a senior at the time Calvin Marsh - something not so nice. When she had been sent to the office, she quite nearly spit in the principal's face. She was nearly expelled, but was she ever lucky enough to have her daddy be the town's police chief and her mommy a rich, powerful lawyer. Maybe that's why she acted up, because she could get away with it. Or maybe she acted up because of the way the cold Dohman Manor was often empty, her dad neck deep in a case and her mom working late nights at the office - she couldn't remember the last time her parents had paid her any good attention.
"My perfume is probably more expensive than your mommy's car, you-" before she could finish, there was a spritz of perfume in her face. She sputtered, her grip loosening on her bag and she found herself almost unable to fight the urge to punch this girl. Her first fell to her side, though, when Charlotte said "See ya at the party Friday," and she didn't hear anything after that. Party? This was the first she had heard of it.
"Woah, woah, wait up," she shouted, reaching out and grabbing hold of Charlotte's arm as she tried walking away, "What party?"
A look of confusion mixed with the look of anger upon her face, "What are you talking about? The beginning of the year party? I thought that died with the last graduating class?" she spoke hurriedly, "What are you taking about?" Albany repeated, her voice cracking. Whereas Charlotte showed no emotion, Albany was showing too much.
[[ sorry it's so bad! I'm so tired omg ]]

Ivy Redwyne & Teddy Redwyne
Quiet room, quiet mind, thrumming heart. The room was illuminated by a square of light coming from the pane of glass just a few feet away. Beyond that glass was noise and distractions. It was the real world with it’s temptations and criticisms. But in the dark, Ivy Redwyne was relaxed and ready. Rolling her head from side to side, she flexed her fingers and lay them delicately on the ivories in front of her.
The soundproof booths at the school were Ivy’s haven. Despite the dust on the keys and several of the notes being out of tune, she needed to start practicing now. And yet, when her eyes danced across the freshly nicked sheet of music for the upcoming musical, her fingers wouldn’t move. They were trembling, unsure of themselves. If she taught herself wrong, then she did it wrong during her audition, everything would be ruined.
“No, don’t think about that,” She chided herself aloud, her voice echoing around the booth. Her fingers caressed the keys again, but they didn’t make a sound. Despite the pressure on her shoulders, it wouldn’t translate to her fingers, wouldn’t allow her to press on a few experimental notes. At least she’d warmed up her voice for the day.
“Whatever,” she muttered, slamming the book closed and roughly shoving it into her backpack. There was always that afternoon. The first day of school and she was already planning her last year of perfect performances. Luckily, a summer at the local playhouse had strengthened her confidence and had boosted her resume when it came to applications. She flicked her phone on, it was nearly 7:20, and everyone would be arriving already. Including her cousin, Teddy. A pang of hunger and guilt mangled together in her gut. She’d skipped their annual tradition of breakfast at The Round Table Cafe, texting him that she was running late. When in reality, she was already in school’s deep hallways
She brushed her dark hair behind her and exited the booth, slipping her phone into the back pocket of her jacket. She’d gone simple for the first day, casual even. With just a brush of mascara and lip balm, she had on a crisp white t-shirt, black jeans, black booties and a oversized jean jacket. Skipping out on Teddy also meant a less than perfect outfit, knowing how he’d scrutinize her with those piercing eyes and wry grin.
Whatever. It was the first day of her senior year, and she was determined to get out to a better start. Especially after her ridiculous summer. That didn’t mean she couldn’t nip out for a quick smoke? “No, you’re trying to kick that habit. It’s bad for your voice, and it needs to be flawless.” She was thankful she didn’t already wreck it after her summer.
Wandering up to the first floor, Ivy was swamped with people around her. No one parted for her like the sea, like they did for the rulers of the school. But the freshman did back out of her way when they heard the click of heeled boots. Senior coming through, watch out! That is until a hand came around her elbow and spun her around, just before she’d reached her locker.
“Cuz! Can’t believe you skipped out on our breakfast date, and where did you get this jacket?” Immediately, Ivy was brought to reality by the sparkling hazel eyes and smirking mouth of her cousin.
“Teddy!” She said, throwing on the upbeat voice as she leapt forward and gave him a quick hug. “Sorry, overslept. And um,” She paused, looking down at her faded jacket. Truth was it was from a charity store. “H&M.” She kept the question out of her voice as she shook a lock of her dark hair from her eyes. Teddy brightened.
“Looks good, keeping it classy this year?” He joked, pulling off his slim silver glasses, putting one end in his mouth as Ivy just shrugged coyly. The game of high school was already on, and Ivy was not going to be caught unawares this year.
“Possibly, but you never know where the wind may take me!” Ivy said, doing a twirl as she backed away from him and keeping a pep in her step as she headed swiftly to her locker. She’d never wanted a cigarette more, but she couldn’t. Not now, at least. She’d been among her peers for less than five minutes and she already wanted to leave, but she’d worked so hard to be a fixture in the community. And she needed to be liked, needed to have people want to come to the musical and the play. If she could get high schoolers to like her, than the real world should be a breeze right?
Brushing past everyone, she came to her locker and quickly spun the familiar pattern, resisting the urge to sink her head into the locker and instead piled her fresh notebooks in her bag along with her stolen script.
xxx
Teddy smirked as he watched Ivy glide off with a twirl. His locker slammed shut and he wandered down the hall back towards the front of the building. He had a study hall for first period, a godsend really. He wouldn’t skip the whole thing. Just the first bit, because he was dying for a smoke. He wanted to sit outside the cafe and smoke with Ivy like old times, until she’d abandoned their ancient tradition.
Her excuse was weak at best, but who was he to pry about her. She was crazy, especially now since she was close to graduating. She wanted to leave the town, go the New York or Hollywood and be an actress. More power to her, but she didn’t have to hide from him and some excellent pancakes. It wouldn’t kill her perfect physique.
Although the smoking probably would. Eventually.
Teddy slipped down the steps out of school, plenty of time to smoke for a while before he moseyed into his first period. Sliding the pack of cigarettes from his pocket, he pulled one out and set it between his teeth while fishing for his lighter in his jacket pocket. Teddy’s eyes caught a puff of smoke from below. Leaning on the steps was none other than Booker Dohman. His lips quirked up as he abandoned his lighter and sauntered over to him.
He’d always found Booker incredibly handsome. Probably off limits, based on his relationship with the beautiful Sophia. But, Teddy was never going to pass down an opportunity to talk to a tall glass of water like Booker. Especially since it seemed that he had “misplaced” his own lighter. “You know those things will kill you,” Teddy said teasingly once he’d gotten close enough to his target.
Teddy waited for Booker to turn before slipping his own cigarette out of his mouth and tentatively holding it out. “With that said, you mind lighting mine? I seem to have misplaced mine,” He said, remembering he’d placed it in his pencil case earlier. He didn’t want to accidentally set himself and his nice jeans on fire in some kind of freak accident. It didn’t stop him from flashing a soft, half smile and batting his lashes a bit. While cigarettes did kill, a little flirting never did.

charlotte “charlie” maisie keilani Charlotte was lucky that she seemed to possess remarkable amounts of restraint, because as the whiney girl latched onto her, Charlie resisted every inch of her screaming for her to throw this girl across the hallway from her. Which, Charlie could very well do considering her athletic abilities.
Yes, they were both lucky, she decided, as she turned a blank stare to the girl latched on her arm. She jerked her arm free, adjusting her bag on her shoulder and glanced at her watch. She was going to be late if this girl didn’t leave her alone. She permitted an exasperated sigh, though it contained hints of amusement, however, at the girl’s complete and utter confusion.
”I’d think you would know about your own party. Rather, the party your twin brother is hosting. Almost everyone’s going,” she said, softer now, more friendly. This girl was so keyed up and so desperate for attention, that she’d take it anyway she could get it-good, bad, nasty, or otherwise.
Pity struck Charlie through to her core.
”Anyway, everyone’s going. He decided to go ahead and take it up as unofficial ‘king’ this year, since he already has his eyes set on prom votes, it seems,” she mused, returning to her quiet indifference with ease. Gosh, she was annoying, with her lack of interest in anything.
”Of course, I don’t care,” she said, clearing her throat before awkwardly reaching out and patting the shorter girl on the head with a halfway sympathetic smile.
”I’m sure you’re invited, of course,” she said, quirking an eyebrow up, humor itching through again. Charlotte thought she was hilarious.
Others, not so much.
She glanced at her watch again, sighing. ”We need to get to class or we’re gonna be late,” she sighed, looking over her schedule apathetically. ”Where’s your first block?” she asked softly, returning to a carefully disinterested expression.
[ omg, no, it's perfect! i love how like sweet little albany is all emotion and lashing out for attention whereas charlie is very calm and just like absorbs her needs and keeps it all packaged up and bottled up. like albany has no control and charlie has too much control and i LOVE their dynamic ]

Albany Dohman // ɪɴᴛʀᴀɴꜱɪɢᴇɴᴛ
At first, it seemed to Albany that Charlotte was still being rude. Her immediate instinct was to slap her across the face, but they quickly faded when she caught the pity in the other girls voice. Obviously, this made her angrier still, but she kept from back handing her, "His friends don't really like me." was all she said, in response to Charlie mentioning her brother. She released the other girls arm and returned her hand to the strap of her bag.
She was showing so much emotion and she didn't know how to control it. This year was already making for a bad one. She didn't know this girl, but one moment she's seconds from slapping the girl and the next she's about to melt like butter into this girls hands. Even the slightest bit of attention seemed to be enough for Albany. She honestly hated it.
"I would've found out about it eventually. Either through the whispers that 'Booker didn't even invite his sl-t of a sister.' or when the music from the loud speakers began pumping into my room." this didn't appear to be something directly to Charlotte, more like a thought spoken aloud. In the mind of Albany Dohman, she was alone. Whether she were surrounded by people or literally by herself, she was alone. Thus her essentially talking to herself. Maybe she didn't even realize that she had said this out loud.
Speaking of classes...Albany was brought back. She wasn't a genius in any sense, but she was pretty darn good at math. She hated math, don't get me wrong, but she was good at it and it reflected as the only decent grade on her report card these past few years and the fact that she was in higher courses than her brother (of the same age.)
Albany hastily pulled her class schedule out of her flannel pocket and opened it up, it as already torn and crumbled, as if she had gone over it and over it a million times before the first day of school, "Advanced Calculus," she said, almost absentmindedly. She looked up at Charlotte, "You?"
(i feel like my responses are so short and i'm so disappointed in myself xD)

Booker Dohman // ʀᴀᴠᴇɴωᴏʟғ ♥
Booker let out a puff of smoke, his eyes moving lazily around the court yard, watching as students were dropped off by parents, buses, girlfriends and boyfriends. He wondered what it was like, having a boyfriend or girlfriend who was much older than you. He wondered about it, but he didn't want to find out what it was like. While all his friends were trying to get with college girls and waitresses at bars, Booker was too busy smoking and drinking too think about those kinds of things. Maybe it was because he was Sophia or maybe he just didn't care. He didn't even know.
Today was like almost any other day, if it wasn't for school. Usually, he would still be in bed. He'd be deep in sleep, dreaming of clubbing, and skinny dipping, and all those stupid, rebellious cool-kid things. It was funny, how he and his sister did pretty much the same things, but when she did it, it was lame and when he did it, it was cool. While it worked out for him, it was an odd double standard for her. It didn't look like it, but Booker thought about that often. He was the lucky one, she wasn't. Whereas he got on just fine without the attention of his parents (he had the attention of his friends), she was an emotional wreck.
He was busy thinking about how awful it had been of him to not mention to the party he was throwing when Teddy came up to him, asking for a light. Booker had assumed that Albany had known about the party, so it never occurred to him to tell her. But why did he suddenly feel so bad? Hmm, maybe it was twinstinct.
At first, he didn't register that Teddy had spoken to him, he was too busy thinking. But then he came to and looked over at the other boy. You know those things will kill you. He raised an eyebrow. Why was he talking to him like - You mind lighting mine? Booker broke into a smile, "Oh, sure." he reached into his pocket and pulled out a little black lighter, "Here ya' go." he said, slipping the lighter into the other boys hand, slightly brushing it.
Booker put out his cigarette butt, then from his pack pulled out another cigarette, "Chain smoking can kill you too but," he dramatically shrugged, "Oh well."
