Pyropelt Glad you enjoyed the chapter and like the idea of the new story I'm thinking up! Mind giving me a bit of help for a character for the new story? I need a name for a white she-cat with a black tail and one black ear, blue eyes. A name a human would give her. mintedstar/fur Very good and cool! I always loved the art style of black and white pencil with lines as shading instead of just like solid coloring in. Idk why but it just really appeals to me. And everything is well drawn and interesting. Nice job!

Yeah sure! How about Oreo, Drizzle, Cookie, or Icicle?

I think Cookie fits pretty nicely. Thanks for the help!

mintedstar/fur phantomstar57 ~Sapphire~ Pyropelt Mega update! Chapters 23 and 24 are up, and they are pretty long! I got into writing them for later but couldn't wait to post them, so here they are! I also added some more story fun facts, but read the chapters first, as there are most definitely spoilers in the fun facts. Also, only a couple more chapters left before we're all done with the story. Enjoy, guys!

phantomstar57 Glad you enjoyed the chapters! I gotta say the twist honestly hurt to do, but it was planned from the very beginning, so it had to be done. mintedstar/fur it's no big deal! Just don't go reading anything that has a spoiler tag on it before reading this time

It probably doesn't help that they are kind of long chapters. Sorry about that, but I hope you're enjoying them!

No, no! I'd just read them in stages if that was the case. I'm just juggling things. And yes, I'm enjoying them!

Your chapters are not as long as NEW BLOOD's LOL I provably should have split them up but they are in Parts I, II , II etc. I am wondering if I should do t anyway-make all the split their own chapters??

phantomstar57 New Blood definitely does have long chapters, but these ones are long for my usual writing standards, lol. If you want to split them up and make them own chapters you could. I don't see a problem with them now, though. mintedstar/fur Always glad to know you're enjoying my work! I do hope you get more free time soon, to do all the things you want.

I am looking forward to that. My current school break is coming to an end, but another is not so far away as I thought it would be. I'll just have to read this on the bus again!

phantomstar57 Very true, but I hate things that are tedious. I wouldn't do it XD How are you, btw? mintedstar/fur How do you read this on the bus? Do you have cell service? I live in the country, so no service for me lol.

I live in the country, so no service for me lol. I may still do it since the chapters are already broken into parts. I'd just have to change them to Chapters, except I wouldn't have illustrations for all of them. That would take a lot more time.

I download the page and then it doesn't matter if I have service or not. I've read this while on vacation in the middle on nowhere where the wind had to blow right for you to get one bar. XD

phantomstar57 Yeah, I know what you mean. Pictures can be quite time consuming, especially when you do them on your own. mintedstar/fur Oh, okay. That makes sense XD We very occasionally get a single bar where I live, lol.

For certain and I'm a stickler for light and shadow being as correct as possible so sometimes that really adds to the time. Even when I am using a mix of photos, freehand and computer altered backdrops.

Shading is literally the most time consuming and delicate thing in any art ever. I do all my stuff from scratch, free-hand with a mouse, so I spend so much time on trying to get the correct shading. How long does the typical photo edit for your illustrations take?

I love shading. I've been trying so, so hard to continue to improve shading on clothing and so forth. I was always impressed with your art, Phantom. The colors looks so nice and it's hard to tell which parts are photos and which parts are drawing and so forth.

How long does the typical photo edit for your illustrations take? Hours, depending on what I am doing. I have not fully mastered free hand wit a mouse. My mouse drawings look so amateurish LOL. So I still do much of my free hand with pencil, marker and watercolor pencil-totally Old School. Then scan them and put them in a piece, then add the light and shadow to fit them in the scene. It can be hours, days or weeks to get an illustration the way I want it.

Shading and light and shadow play are the most difficult. In New Blood a few characters are fully hand drawn while others are actual photos of the cat I based the character on. Phantomstrike is based on one of m cats but Phantom was not a Maine Coon. I had to draw him as one. Then Snowsquall, Indiclaw's beau is totally made up!

I loved how you put your own cats into your story. It's something I've never really seen done (and pulled off) before. I like it. And both your and Sea's art has a lot of work put into it. It always pleases me to see what you do.

It always pleases me to see what you do. I did that in several books too. Used my cats as bases for the characters. In KHAN I kept to the truth . LOL But when using my own cats I knew them so well it was easy to expand on it for my NEW BLOOD stories and for the felakoons in my scifi stories. I am still working on Book II in that series, and a couple of 'made up" characters suddenly became felakoons based on Abby and Darwin. Nice thing about still being in the 1st draft-I can change things as time goes on!

I've used my own cats or cats I know as bases for characters before. It's pretty interesting, but I don't think I can pull them off quite as well as I can making all new characters. I appreciate the kinds words about my art, too. That stuff takes me hours, as well.

I appreciate the kinds words about my art, too. That stuff takes me hours, as well. I have made up characters too :-) But each character is based on someone I know whether its a cat or person. I take that base and expand on it, and sometimes the base is just that, a place to start. Other times, the character is pretty close to the person/purson the base came from. It depends on what I am writing. Sometimes I will base a character on two sources and blend them, keeping some characteristics while discarding others. Except in cases of true tales, I often alter base characters to fit the new, and often intensify some traits while backing down others. It is really fascinating to see how different writers handle these things.
