The past three weeks had been...interesting. First, she had been summoned to Kaer Morhen and she had to leave the School of the Manticore immediately. She began on foot, beginning her journey with only her swords and her wits. Along the way, she had met a great many people, and fought a few monsters. She still had a few scratches from her run in with a couple hellhounds. Eventually, she talked some man into giving her his horse, and the quest north accelerated at lightning speed. It wasn't long until she was coming upon Kaer Morhen on the back of a white mare. She had never once seen the northern School of the Wolf. In fact, she had never once traveled this far north.
The still twilight surrounded her as she examined Kaer Mohren. The castle was rather large and overlooked everything below it. Shame there's barely anybody here to live in it, she thought. The attack that occurred here all those years was more like a massacre that left the School of the Wolf empty and on the brink of oblivion. How many people even inhabited this magnificent place? Four? Five? Probably even less. What a waste.
Callista drew closer and closer, the stone walls looming over her as she neared. Soon, she spotted a figure standing outside the fortress. With narrowed eyes, she dismounted her horse, her boots hitting solid ground. Seizing the reins, the red-haired girl drew closer. It only took a few steps for her to recognize a man, and she was just so lucky enough to know the identity of the Witcher standing outside Kaer Mohren.
"Goodness, Mateo," she started, a small smirk dancing on her lips. "One might think you were stalking me, you showing up here and all." It had been years since she had last seen the fire-eyed man. To call them friends would be an overstatement, but there was not a single trace of distaste between the two of them.
It took a second for Mateo to register who was speaking to him. "Well, sweetheart, nothing could keep me from seeing you any longer." He gave her a devilish grin, to which he received a small laugh. He couldn't really remember the last time he had seen her, but it had been far too long. Callista was good to have around and their relationship had never turned too sour.
Looking back to the walls of the fortress, Mateo pushed back his long auburn hair. It had been days since he last bathed, something anyone who stood too close would easily discover. He looked back to Callista, noticing the Manticore medallion hanging around her neck. He felt his own Griffin medallion touching his chest. A sudden thought struck him. What am I doing here? The School of the Wolf will be dead in a matter of years, so why did I leave my home to help a lostcause? With a sigh, he took a long, heavy blink. Because it's the right thing to do, remember?
As he opened his eyes, Mateo wasn't too sure he wanted to remember.
