((lol cx That means I did a good job, lol. She might, but I don't think she would unprompted. She feels like she failed Echoshade, and she doesn't want to face her alone))
Marshpaw sat up as the crowd entered the camp. He frowned, noticing their faces were grim. "Uh... Did something happen or what?" the apprentice muttered. "What, they had a bad hunting patrol or something?" The muddy young cat scrunched his nose as he thought to himself. More things he'd have to hear cats complain about. Oh no! The mouse got away! Ha.
-
Pineshadow stood near his mother, Robinwing. Both of them were muttering to each other as news spread around the camp. "Oh, that poor kit!" Robinwing mewed somberly. Her heart ached for the tiny bundle who was stolen away. "Echoshade must be grieving so much..." Pineshadow nuzzled his mother's shoulder comfortingly. "It must be very hard for her..." the tom mumbled. "But we must be here for her. She will need her Clanmates more than ever to cope with this loss." Robinwing nodded, feeling pride in her son well up inside her chest, but not enough to cover the sorrow.

((Sorry! It took longer than I thought))
After a few more words, Robinwing left her son beside the warrior's den to approach the nursery. As a mother herself, Robinwing felt it was best that she provided comfort for the grieving queen. She paused for a moment at the entrance to the den and gave the brambles a few soft swipes with her paw. "Excuse me... I'm sorry to disturb you, but, may I come in? It's Robinwing." Her voice was gentle and soft as she spoke, careful not to upset the newborn kits.

Instantly, instinctually, the new mother had growled at the sound of bristling at the entrance to the nursery. As though she was certain that every shadow or uncertain noise was going to carry an enemy hidden within it. Someone about to take away the rest of her kits, she pulled herself to her paws. Wincing at the pain from merely lifting herself onto her paws and let out a growl. Beside her, the newborns mewled in protest when they were dislodged from nursing.
When hearing a voice that she recognised, the queen remained uncertain. A little unwilling of letting others around her vulnerable newborns just yet, especially after what she had been through, the need to protect strengthened tenfold. Despite the fact that she was in the heart of the place she should have felt the safest. After thinking for a moment, she at last replied with, "Come in."

Slowly and gently, the senior warrior entered the den. She was met with warmth and the scent of milk, which was comforting to her. However, she couldn't ignore the sense of dread that hung in the air. Robinwing nodded a gentle greeting. "No need to get up, Echoshade. I'm sorry, again, to disturb you. I just wanted to see how you were doing." Robinwing paused, choosing her next words carefully. She felt a pang of pity in her chest, but chose not to let it show as to not upset the she-cat. "I... I have heard what you went through, and for that I am deeply sorry..."

The slender shecat returned to her nest, the way she carried herself was clearly tender, as though every movement rippled pain through her exhausted, fragile frame. Resting back onto her side, she ran her muzzle through the furs of her remaining kits. Pain lighting her gaze at the older shecats, words, for a moment she said nothing. Just watching the little newborns in silence. "I'm fine," was her quiet reply, though the truth seemed to be anything but. "Thanks," she said quietly.

Robinwing let her eyes soften. "Echoshade, I can see that you are in pain... Both physically and emotionally. You cannot hide much from someone as experienced as I." The she-cat lay near Echoshade, a comfortable distance away, and tucked her paws underneath her chest. Robinwing glanced down at the kits squirming by the queen's side, giving a soft sigh. "It is alright for you to feel pain, you know," she said gently, lifting her gaze once more to Echoshade. Her eyes were warm and understanding. "You don't have to hide it from anyone."

(feel free to say no, but how would you feel about Echoshade and Robinwing being related? I dont know why, just thought it might be cool. She could have grown appart from her mother after the death of her father)
Glancing over at the older shecat, Echoshade's eyes darkened a shade. Threatening to overflow with tears, but she managed to bite back the stinging sensation. Pressing her muzzle into the little kits furs in order to hide how flooded her dark eyes were. "I should have caught the fox, I should have done something," she whispered weakly. "But I couldn't, and my son is dead because of it," she managed to choke out at last.

((Related how? As in she is her kit, or Robinwing is like a mother to her?))
Robinwing felt her heart break. "Echoshade, dear, there was nothing that could have been done. Do not blame yourself for what happened out there," she said softly. "You defended your kits with your life, all while bringing them into the world." The warrior lowered her head. "There were many warriors there with you, and even they could not do much to help. You should be proud of what you have accomplished." Robinwing leaned forward, and with a gentle paw, raised the queen's head to turn her gaze towards her kits. "Echoshade, what do you see sitting in front you right now?"

(Echoshade being Robinwing's daughter, Pineshadow's sister type deal. I understand if not, just thought I'd ask)
The young queen's eyes were dead as she watched the squirming forms of the three kits, grief seemed to have overtaken every happy feeling the queen had ever possessed. She hated herself, that much was clear, for letting her kit die. "Kits," I don't deserve, she thought but didn't say it aloud. Had there been another queen in the nursery, she would have given the kits to her. Her kits didn't deserve such a failure for a mother. Pressing her nose into Daisykit's ear with a gentle lick. "Beautiful kits," she added absent minded the thoughts running in her head apparent.

((If you'd like, I don't have a problem with it c: She would be Maplebreeze's sister as well. With the timing of it, Echoshade would have to be older than Pineshadow and Maplebreeze. Is that ok?))
"And they're your kits," Robinwing murmured. The she-cat straightened herself, letting a small smile form on her lips. "They are your beautiful kits, Echoshade. And they are lucky to have a mother as loving as you..." The former queen let her words hang in the air for a few long heartbeats. She knew Echoshade blamed herself harshly for the loss of the other kit, and Robinwing understood. But there was something Echoshade had to realize. "Echoshade, I know you are grieving, but you must listen to me," she said, her words suddenly firm. "These kits are alive because of you. I know one of them was stolen from you, but you must understand that they are still here." She motioned to the kits beside her as she spoke. "They need you, Echoshade. They need you to be strong for them. You need to show your son that his death was not for nothing. Your son would want nothing more than for his siblings to live on in his memory. These kits need you to love them. You need to be the reason that these kits survived." Robinwing lifted Echoshade's chin once more. "Because you are."

(that's fine with me) Echoshade blinked at her mother without a word for a moment, she had never been close to the shecat, their personalities tended to clash, and though she would always love her mother, they had grown appart since her fathers death. Now knowing what it was to lose a kit, the new mother was wracke with guilt as well as grief. She returned her head to her paws, "They deserve so much better." She mumbled, her eyes darkening as tears fought to burst free. "As did you."

((Sweet c: Also, I just realized that Maplebreeze now not only let the kit get away, but let her nephew get away because of this ;w; ))
Robinwing sighed and shook her head slightly. "Echoshade, they were born to you for a reason. It is because you deserved to be a mother to such wonderful kits," she said with a calming tone. Robinwing paused, and seemed to struggle to speak. "I know your father would be very proud of you." Robinwing gazed at her grandkits with soft eyes. She missed him dearly. "And as am I. Don't you dare say I deserve better than what I have," her voice grew stern once more. When she looked up, Robinwing's eyes were unreadable, almost hurt. "You and your siblings are the best thing that could have happened to me, and I couldn't be more proud to call you my daughter."

Gazing at her mother for a moment, she visibly flinched at the mention of her father. "He wouldn't be proud of a fool who got his kin killed because of her selfish idiocrosy," she replied in a quiet tone of voice. She twitched her stub of a tail from side to side, her wounds made her uncomfortable but the sadness of the topic of her father did little to help. Echoshade fought back the urge to press against her mother, to pretend she was a kit again and that none of this had happened. But now she too was a mother, and needed to be strong for her own little ones as well as herself.
"Please let Maplebreeze know I don't blame her," she added quietly. Eyes flickering with pain at the thought of her younger sister, knowing all to well that she probably blamed herself almost as much as she did right now. "It wasn't her fault, I guilted her into going out of camp with me." Quickly deciding to change the subject, at least a little. She leant down and pressed her nose into the kits fur, "We dedcided on names." She said in a quiet voice, looking back at her mate.

Robinwing stared at her daughter with sad eyes as she spoke. Her daughter's words stung her worse than a claw to the heart. Echoshade... Your father would never think such things... She looked down at the kits, sadness clinging to the old warriors gaze. She wished so badly she could help her daughter see just how brave she was. She wished that she knew she was proud. She wished she could have been a better mother to her eldest... Robinwing's attention was grasped by Echoshade's words about names. "Oh, you did?" she murmured, shaking the guilt and sorrow from her eyes. "Please, tell me the names of your beautiful kits."

A tiny smile lit her face for the first time, it was small and barely noticeable, but it was there as she gazed down at the newborns curled close to her underbelly. Pressing her nose into the primarily black tom kit, the largest of the kits and the one she had struggled the most with. "Blazekit," she said quietly. Partially for the splash of white on his chest, partially for her father. She looked at her mother, waiting for a reaction of some sort, a little on edge. "Daisykit," she meowed licking the little golden yellow shecat over the ear, the tiniest of the three and the one she made great care of ensuring she stayed tucked closest to her belly. Then finally to her other tom kit, "And Pinekit." She added licking the littler tom between the ears with a level of affection.

Robinwing lit up with joy and pride as Echoshade read off the names of her kits. Blazekit's name nearly brought a tear to her eye, and she purred with delight. She could almost hear her passed mate's cheers of aproval. Daisykit was so fitting for the tiny, lightly colored she-kit. Pinekit made her chuckled slightly, warming her heart. "They're beautiful, Echoshade. Ashenblaze would sure be happy about it as well," she said, letting her previous sorrow melt away. Robinwing gave her a humored glance. "I'm sure your brother with be tickled pink about this little one," she added, gesturing to Pinekit.

At the sound of his name, though probably only by coincidence as he was much too small and young to understand anything the shecats above him were saying, Blazekit let out a loud purr as he kneaded against his mother's belly. Eyes sealed tight and ears flat to his head. The young mother watched her son with a little smile, licking him between the ears. She leant down and with great caution, she lifted the kit up and placed him against her flank, letting the smaller two get warm and nurse without having to compete for space. It may have been her first litter, but she seemed to know what to do pretty quickly.
Surprised from his sudden displacement, he let out a little squeak but soon settled down on her belly. He knew he was safe from the smell of his mother and her warmth. There were other smells he didn't recognise, but he was warm, full and happy.
Thinking for a moment, the queen rested her head on the ground again, this time a little closer to her mother, though there was obvious caution to how she did it. "Please let Maplebreeze know I don't blame her," she added quietly. Eyes flickering with pain at the thought of her younger sister, knowing all to well that she probably blamed herself almost as much as she did right now. "It wasn't her fault, I guilted her into going out of camp with me."

A sad expression passed across the older she-cat's face. She had seen Maplebreeze near the entrance of camp huddled in a ball. Never before had she seen her bright, happy daughter like this. "I will do what I can," she said, worry obvious in her voice. "But I don't think it is something I should be saying. You must tell her as well. Your mate, as well." Robinwing looked towards the entrance of the den as if Maplebreeze could be seen from inside. "I am worried about how she will take this. It isn't like her to act this way about something this dire." A pause. "She wasn't this crushed even when your father passed."

Pulling the newborns closer to her belly, Echoshade let out a quiet sigh. Tears still twinkling in her dark eyes, she looked to her mother from where she was lying. "Will you bring her here?" She asked quietly, cautious.

Robinwing faced Echoshade, concern in her eyes. "Are you sure?" she asked quietly. "You still need to rest, Echoshade. And you must grieve for yourself before you can console others." Robinwing's whiskers twitched in thought. It would be good for Maplebreeze to talk as soon as possible, but Echoshade was only trying to erase the blame from everyone but herself. To make herself solely responsible for the loss of her son. "And there is something else... Echoshade, if you forgive Maplebreeze, then you must promise me that you can forgive yourself," the she-cat said, looking her in the eyes. "She will never believe you if you do not."

The elegant queen shook her head, as usual prioritising just about everyone but herself first. She looked at her mother with a sigh, tilting her head to the side. "I know my sister, this will eat her apart if I don't at the very least try." She said quietly, her ears flattened at her mother's final comment. Looking away and not making eye contact, a ball forming at the back of her throat which she couldn't quite swallow. She didn't respond for a moment looking down at her kits she couldn't think of a way to respond. She only looked at her mother, and said a firm, "Please, I cant live with myself if she hates herself."

Robinwing only stared back for many long heartbeats. Eventually, she sighed, giving in. "Fine," she said, rising to her paws. She felt a pang of sadness and hurt course through her chest as she thought of Echoshade's last statement. The senior warrior looked at the kits once more, somehow looking much older than she did before. "Echoshade..." she continued, facing away from her daughter. "You say you can't live with yourself if your sister feels the way she does. If she hates herself." Robinwing's shoulders dropped. "I feel the same way about you. While we haven't been getting along as of late..." She turned towards Echoshade, eyes dim. "I still care for you and love you. Please, don't keep me out again." Robinwing paused and turned towards the exit once more. "And let others help you through this. You are not alone." With a heavy heart, the ginger she-cat left the warmth of the den to find Maplebreeze.

Echoshade watched her mother, she tensed. Wanting to move to comfort her mother, to be near her mother. Hating to see the cat that she admittedly did love in pain, but she stayed still. Close to her kits and not moving from their side, bowing her head. She looked away, and said nothing.
