Kit could not have been less pleased with his current situation. Here he was, a former captain in the King's army, second only to his local lord and the King himself in his military standing, son of a celebrated knight and a Lady and formerly talented swordsman with half the usual amount of legs and a seemingly unsolvable crime he was under strict orders to solve. He could no longer wield a sword and expect to win a confrontation, he could no longer command an army and he could most certainly not find even the slightest satisfaction in his newfound post as his Lord's personal bloodhound. He'd once been a man with a career and a title, now he was a crime solver with one leg made of flesh and another of crudely fashioned metal on loan to whoever paid the most to have their claim investigated. It was fair to say that he was bitter.
This particular murder had his blood boiling. He'd learned to interrogate people working in the army, he'd needed to be able to read people when he had people depending on him to keep the order, and he'd always had a sharp mind, but this was something else. The Lord's personal guest, a foreign noble, poisoned in a fully packed inn where anyone could have spiked his food or drink. Everyone was a suspect, everyone was a witness. His frustration must have shown on his face because the man who was briefing him paused in his explanation of the situation to frown at him. "Sir," he said. "I'm not sure you're listening to me. A man has died, is it not your job to find who did it?"
"Unfortunately," Kit agreed, looking at the dead man with disdain, as though he were to blame for this. "Poisoned with dozens of people around and anyone having the capability to sneak in and out of here without it raising any eyebrows. Yes. Forgive me if I don't appear excited by this all."
"That may be, but I've rounded up all those I could verify were here at the time of his death while you rode here. I've given you a starting point, and I'm sure his Lord would appreciate you taking the help that's been offered and attempting to locate his friend's murderer."
Kit fixed him with a look. He may have lost his military rank, but he outranked this man by birth. He would do his job and he would do it well, he didn't need this man to demand he enjoy it as well. He seemed to get the message because he stepped back and dipped his head. "I'll send the first few your way, then."

Crow was very much displeased as well. He was being held on the suspicion that he was a murdered. It was baffling really. There was no way, no way in the entire world, that he would have done it. It was much to messy. Who did they think he was? An amateur? If he had been the one to do it, there was no way it would have been tracked back to him. Crow was a master assassin. He took pride in his work and would never have done something as messy as this. While he went by many different names, even 'Crow' was a fake one, people generally knew of him. Not who he was or what he looked like, but that you should never mess with him. This newbie must be dull to think they could frame him.
'I guess I'll have to wait until this is over.' He mused, knowing it would be suspicious if he tried to run away now. He hadn't done it, so what were the chances he would get accused of it. Speaking of being framed, it was almost laughable the so called assassin had done it with poison. It would have been so much easier to stab the man. Waisting poison on a lowly man was truly a waste.
Crow was shaken from his thoughts when a voice grunted in front of him. Looking up he tilted his head as if asking what the man wanted. It looked as if he was going to be moved. The knight in front of him seemed very full of himself. All knights were, that was to be expected. He had gotten used to it.

The knight who'd spoken to him before went to round up a group of people Kit could only assume were the people he'd marked as prime suspects. They came up to him one by one, some nervous, others angry they were being kept from leaving. Not one of them read as even a little bit guilty to Kit, who dismissed them nearly as quickly as they'd arrived. There were dozens of people here for him to talk to, he couldn't afford to have an in-depth conversation with every man, woman and child who came up to him.
Eventually, he came face to face with a young man who appeared to be just as frustrated with this as him. He muttered something about being tired of this, then looked him over properly once. He frowned, thoughtfully, then nodded. " I'm Christopher Niculai," he said, nodding. "You'd be..?" he trailed off and raised and eyebrow.

No no, it's fine :3 I'm on my phone so my post isn't as long as I would have liked.)
As the line dwindled Crow became more and more suspicious. This was an unusual way for the knights to handle it. It was a first for sure. Shrugging he leaned against the wall and waited for his turn. Soon he was part of the last five. A burly man who had spent he the entire time complaining was led in followed by a few more and then it was his turn. Moving from his spot against the wall he followed the original knight and was brought into a room with a single knight.
As he was left alone Crow took the time to look the other man over. The knight seemed confident, even bored. As he was asked his name Crow used his usual 'citizen' name "The names Drew. Drew Grez. I guess it would be silly to ask why I'm here. But I'll do it anyways... what exactly have you taken up he majority of my day?" Crow didn't act angry per say, just hassled. If he acted to angry that would likely give him away.
He rested a hand on his hip and titled his head. Hopefully this would be done and he would be back to hunting down his current target. One that was being annoyingly illusive.

( so sorry this is so late, I totally blanked on this )
Kit raised an eyebrow. "I would have thought that obvious," he said, almost confused. "A man has died and you were here to witness it, correct?" He didn't know that the man before him was a renown assassin but even so, it would make no sense for him to simply dismiss the man. He didn't need to know that he'd killed before to assume he could kill now just as he didn't need to know that the small five year old he'd spoken to a while ago had arrived after the dead man had already cleared his plate to assume she hadn't been the murderer. In his experience, with the right incentive, anyone could kill. "Why? Is there a reason you should be let go?"
He was silently hoping for a confession. He was certain he'd never get one, not from this man and not from the very few left after him, but if he could, that would make things much simpler. Of course, even if he did get one, he was sure that the Lord wouldn't be satisfied. Just as it was easy to incentivise someone to kill, it was easy to do the same to get someone to take the fall for something they hadn't done. Promise their family will be given great wealth or threaten to instead kill one of them and you were well on your way. The Lord would know that and he was more determined to catch the true culprit than usual. He would want to know for certain he was executing the right man, not because he could be harming an innocent but because the guilty party could still be out there. So maybe his hope was all for nothing anyway.
He sighed, furrowing his brow as he watched Drew carefully. He wouldn't get a confession, but maybe he could get something far more useful.

"I thought you'd have gotten the guy already." he shrugged "I, like many people, have a job I need to get back to. Truly the struggle of living." he sighed and shook his head. "I am curious about you though. This is an unorthodox way to handle things. I guess you are in charge of it?" he was getting to the brink of being suspicious, but Crow was here, he might as well ask what they knight was doing. It was on logical for a citizen to be worried about the knights. They were the protectors for people like that. Crow, not really, but for the next couple minutes he was Drew. A normal citizen, not a trained and highly dangerous assassin.

( I'm so bad at keeping up with this I'm so sorry life's been a mess )
"You overestimate my abilities, I'm afraid," Kit said, still sounding apathetic. He wished he could say he'd found the culprit, but he most certainly hadn't. That grated on his nerves but he had to save his frustration for a time when it wouldn't impede him. "But you are correct to think that I'm in charge of this -" unfortunately "- and as such, it should be I who asks the questions." He sounded firm, but not yet suspicious. He was a man who didn't have time for pleasantries, not a man who was becoming convinced that he was speaking to a murderer. "Tell me, what do you think of the murder?"

It's all good ^^ )
If he was being honest, Crow would say that it was messy. The way they did it, the time they chose, everything was sub par. Deciding though that if he said there here he would be put under suspicion. After thinking for a moment he said "It think it's worrying. That someone who has the no how of killing is around and acutally killing people." granted the amount of knowledge was pretty pathetic. Compared to him. "I would hope that you would get it taken care of before someone else got hurt."

Kit didn't respond to the way the conversation was once more turned against him. It was a tactic he saw often. Whether you were guilty or not, interrogations were uncomfortable. Taking the focus off of yourself, intentionally or otherwise, and onto the interrogator or the situation itself made them a little easier to deal with. Still, the way it was being done here was impressive. "What makes you think someone else would get hurt?" he questioned, focusing on the part of the man's final sentence that could actually tell him something. He had to if he wanted answers and after the skilful way his questions had been answered, he definitely did.
It was more than that, though. He agreed with the man's judgement and was thus intrigued to hear more of his thoughts. The methods used were similar to those of an infamous assassin, but even if you weren't in the loop on his dealings, it was a safe bet to make. This was no personal attack, but it had been targeted. That a foreign noble was the victim was no accident. Separately, this might not have meant anything but Kit was sharp enough to realise that with both these facts taken into account, it almost certainly did.

Crow couldn't help himself "What assassin would attack only one person? Psh, as sloppy as it was." the last part of that was said more to himself than the man in front of him. "Anyways, I can't see someone attacking only once. Especially if they get away with it. It'll give them confidence and they'll try again." he shrugged and looked around carefully.

Now Kit was more than intrigued. He was suspicious. No righteous man would critisise the neatness of a murder. Whether or not Drew was the murderer here, Kit found it hard to believe he was an innocent. "Sloppy, you say? Why? How would you have done it better? What would you consider clean?"

"Oh, I apologize for misspeaking." Crow backtracked, "I was simply saying the man made quite the mess in the bar. I feel bad for those who have to clean it up." he mentally kicked himself. He was way too prideful to have the other even think he would do something so messy, but he hadn't meant to phrase it so suspiciously. As prideful as he was, he always tried to down play it in situations where he could actually get caught, this was on of them.

Kit hummed, frowning still. That was a bad excuse but likely the only one he'd get out of the man, at least for the moment. "I understand." He did not. "I assume you've heard of Heleon," he said, using one of the many names the public had for their most infamous assassin. Unlike the others, this one was thought by some to be the man's actual name, although Kit himself doubted that was the case. There was no way the assassin would still be at large if that was the case. "Those who came before you have suggested this was his work? Would you agree?"

Doubt it. I think I would know. Crow mentally laughed. "It's not really their MO, but maybe." I would never do anything as messy as this one though. Honestly I should get this guy just to clear my name. I would die if people thought I did something as poor as this. He seemed to realize he ahd gone silent and said "Why? Do you think they did it?"

Kit shrugged, leaning back slightly. "Perhaps. I figure it's as likely as anything else. Nobody knows who they are, there is nothing to say they were not here. And the victim is certainly the type to be made an assassin's target." It wasn't a theory he liked, it required him hunting down an assassin so elusive nobody knew their face or even a single one of their many names, but he had to admit it was a theory without any evidence to contradict it. It would be foolish to dismiss it.

"What do you mean they are the type to be made a target?" he asked. Of course he knew this, the guy that was murdered had plenty of hits out on him, but this knight didn't need to know that "It's scary considering the person is a lose cannon. Anyone could be next I guess." though contract killers didn't kill randomly. No, they would not kill unless it was necessary or for their own personal gain. Meaning unless they got paid they weren't killing.
Sorry for being gone!)

( no worries, it's all good )
Kit raised an eyebrow. It was impossible to believe that this guy was truly this stupid. Anyone with a head on their shoulders and more common sense than a mouse caught in a mouse trap for the fifth time in a week would be able to work out that the victim carried a target on his shoulders. It wasn't exactly a logical leap. And if his suspicions were right, then not just anyone would be next, either. He sighed, frustrated. "He's involved in politics, has a title to his name," he said, although that wasn't the whole story he couldn't simply tell this stranger who seemed to go from clever to idiotic in mere moments. "Have you ever heard of a man with a title who hasn't received death threats? If so, I'd like to meet him, get some advice."

"But I've heard that he's had little involvement lately and has been said to be going down hill in his health. Honestly I wouldn't even waste time on him." he almost bit his tongue after saying that. Hopefully the knight wouldn't take his words too seriously. He was true to his words when he said he hadn't done it. But the knight would not, in a hundred years, believe what he was saying. Crow couldn't ust come out and say it was messy either. All were too risky.

Kit tilted his head, interest piqued and suspicions raised. "Where have you gotten this information?" he questioned. "If you expect me to attach enough weight to your words to stop entertaining this theory, it must be a reliable source." There were three ways to see this. Either Drew was too stupid to question the gossip he heard on the streets - unlikely. That left two. Either Drew was lying or he knew more about this assassin than he let on. Regardless, Kit was more than interest to know more.
