Especially not without a goal.

Act IV: The Escape TEASER Coal hesitated, his eyes moving from shadow to shadow, actively looking around them as they ran. “Stonetail told me you threw her across the ravine.”
Darkmoon’s eyes narrowed, ducking as they went under a leaning tree. “Your point being that what? I’m strong?”
He halted, tugging her into a bush.
“Yes,” he said, speaking quietly. “And you’ve just ruined the perfect kill for a very perfect hunter.”
Understanding washed over her. “The yellow-eyed tom…you’re going to use me as bait?”
Coal didn’t respond. He simply stared at her, waiting for her response.
She laughed, pushing her way out of the bush. “Forget this, I’m leaving. Now.”
“No, wait, you don’t understand-”
“I understand perfectly,” Darkmoon snapped, turning on him. “You’re worse than my apprentice thinking you can pull this off, except she would have gone and done this herself, so that at least makes you smarter.”
His amber eyes glowed with memories as he stood in her way. “I will do it if you won’t.”
She scoffed. “If you wanted to do it then why haven’t you done it already?”
“Because I didn’t think he would follow my brother and I here!” He snapped, his black fur coat bristling.
Darkmoon became deathly still. “He’s been hunting you?”
Coal’s eyes drew in shadows. “Yes.”
“Then why have you stayed?”
He stayed silent.
Darkmoon hissed. “Why did you stay, Coal? Why did you stay, knowing a psychopath murderer was following you both?”
He glared into her eyes, and still said nothing.
She shoved him, feeling that annoyance she had felt when her apprentice had shown similar stupidity. “Did you think numbers would save your brother? Or is it that the clan has grown on you?” She spat. “Or maybe it’s Stonetail and Streamheart in particular. You care about them. They remind you of something you’ve lost.”
“Shut up,” Coal growled, his claws piercing through the leaves beneath him.
Darkmoon smiled, the red glow from her eyes illuminating the lies on his face. “Let’s kill two birds with one stone then, Coal. But you are not running away from this. Not anymore.” |

Katanaheart - <3 What are your ideas to solve the Curse issue? :'O As for the spots where the soul reside, I try to pick ones that resemble the character the most. If the soul resides close to the brain, the character is very logical. Close to the heart; more illogical/emotional. Stomach = instinct and also desire; Base of the tail = vulnerability, caution/paranoia among other things. (Base of the tail is actually the most common. Sometimes the soul can be moved over time and even in the moments before death. The uncertainty of what comes after you die can move the soul to the base of the tail, hence poor Thornpaw). There is also a spot where the soul can be in one of the four paws which basically means the character was hard working/very active.

Becoming something to believe in.
Belief is something powerful, and the Cursed can claim to be divinity itself, stronger than Father Earth and Mother Sky, themselves...
The issues there then lie with losing said belief, along with ways to explain away the mortality of the Cursed.
Hence why this “solution,” has its own case of problems.
They’re neither exploited here, feared to some extent, sure.
But not persecuted and hunted down, in Darkmoon’s time.

That's...actually very interesting. :'O It's similar to certain themes in the series. Yay! It is also very difficult to walk the path of divinity and mortality... Especially if only a particular pair of eyes sees you as divine, while others had no idea you existed in the first place.  |

Katanaheart - No joke that's a main theme for a future novel in the CotV universe: The Lightning Prodigy. It's such an interesting concept and you can do so much with it story wise. To be able to be seen as therworldy/divine you kinda have to sacrifice things about yourself that make you mortal, like ways of mortal thinking. Instead of survival its power. Instead of love, its worship. mintedstar/fur - Sounds like a plan! :'D

And it is an amazing thing to work with and think about. A shame even though it’s present, it’s not much of a main focus beyond certain parts...
Along with the “eyes of a divine,” and the “eyes of a mortal,” blurring...
Since on one hand, you’re a divine, you should be able to do anything.
But on the other hand you have your own limitations, that are beyond your control.

Of course Graystar wants to keep Darkmoon prisoner so she can keep resurrecting her clanmates. OF COURSE. You don't just ask nicely, you decide to keep them caged and guarded. also I've forgotten how much I love Coal, Clay, Streamheart and Stonetail. ᴛᴜᴇsᴅᴀʏ I may be due for a reread. (lovely chapter, Shadow!) |

A portal is used to get FROM the Realm of the Living to a different realm.
A door is used to go IN BETWEEN the non-living realms and to go FROM a non-living realm to the Realm of the Living.
DOORS = for dead people
PORTALS = for living people
