The smile dropped from his face as soon as the paying customer exited through the sliding doors, a soft exhale escaping his lips as his body slouched. His heart began to slow back to a normal pace once he came to the realization that the stranger didn't recognize him. Life on the run was difficult, he realized with disdain. It was nothing like how movies and books made it out to be. (But then again, those were just fiction.) He constantly had to look over his shoulder, cover his tracks, make a new identity, stay away from any sort of relationships or interaction, talk less, eat only when necessary... Basically, he had to hide who he was and become an entirely different person. But, that was okay, he was okay. Or, rather, he was going to be okay. He could get through this, no problem. It was just a little fork on the road. (Maybe if he kept on telling himself that, he would start to believe it.)
Scraping his teeth against his lower lip, Baekhyun tugged his hood closer to his face, as if the simple material was a wall between him and the outside world. He didn't want anyone to recognize who he was, not after he came so far. It couldn't be all for naught.
Sure, his freshly-dyed hair just made him stand out of the crowd even more, but he did that to change his appearance. Besides, the image of him shown on the news displayed him with bright orange hair, the remnants of a bet he lost a long time ago. The memory caused a small smile to dance across his face before wincing in pain at the way he left things with those friends. He had gone to them for help, and only received a kick and a look of disgust in response. They all turned their backs on him, threatening to call the authorities and let them know where he was.
He wondered if they were ashamed of knowing him. If they pretended that he never existed, if they declined the microphones thrusted in their faces by news reporters, if they claimed that they never hung out with a boy named 'Baekhyun.' Did his mom erase him from her life as well? Did she 'forget' that she ever had a son as disgraceful as him? Honestly, he didn't blame her, but the thought still hurt.
Sighing quietly, Baekhyun glanced up at the clock. He only had a half hour left on his shift, thank the gods. After this, he could rush back to the shoddy apartment he now called 'home', make some ramen as his lunch and dinner, and just stay in bed for the next day until work. Then, the cycle would start all over again. Work, eat, sleep. That's what his life consisted of now. He began to idly tap his fingers against the counter, bouncing his leg subconsciously as he tried to distract himself. His gaze would wander to the cash register before he snapped to attention and started to resume staring at the magazine in front of him. He couldn't focus on the words, his mind only paying attention to the money resting in the register. How long had it been since he stole something? Weeks? Months? He didn't know the exact time, but days felt like years to him.

"This must be the place." He sighed to himself, gaze resting on a piece of thin paper he held in his hand, that of which contained the address to the store he was currently standing in front of. He stuffed the thing in his pocket without much of a second thought and waltzed in, pushing his (very expensive)sunglasses up to his head so he could see properly in the shabby, dimly lit building. It'd been a long trip, yet one made with as much haste as he could manage; he hadn't wanted to hurry, but finding someone who was constantly on the move was difficult, he was lucky the camp officials didn't make him follow the poor guy around because that certainly wouldn't have been fun for either of them. Plus, following a guy around with an appearance like his own wasn't a great idea, he learned that on the trip, when he'd trailed after a woman in an attempt to request directions. She'd screamed at him and actually frightened him a little, but he didn't necessarily blame her, since he was a big guy. He was pretty sure that was the reason, he didn't see what could've upset her otherwise. His size got him a lot of stares, he found, but maybe they just weren't used to seeing people over six feet- what a shame. Before he even attempted to approach the counter, Seraphim took his portable mirror from his pocket and checked on his makeup; his white face paint was still intact and his lipstick wasn't smeared, though the red diamond around his left eye was blending too much with the white. He noted to himself to fix it later, then made his way to the checkout area, grabbing a container of pistachios on his way so he at least had some reason to be over there. He placed the item down along with a bit of money, flashing a big, friendly smile and greeting him by name, along with a, "We need to talk." (lol this is so bad and so short but poor Baekhyun, probably so scared of this massive clown dude smh)

(lol Baekhyun is terrified bc I would be too tbh)
When he first heard someone new enter the store, Baekhyun didnβt think much of it. In the beginning, he always shot his head up to stare at whoever entered. He soon learned that was too suspicious (and unnerving on the customerβs part), and stopped. He only greeted them in a soft tone, and this time was no exception, gaze never straying from the magazine. Truth be told, he was a bit terrified to look up. What if this person recognized him? What if they were about to call the police? Heβd have to flee the scene immediately and leave everything behind, again (with the exception of whatever he had on his body). Sure, he didnβt mind doing that, but he was growing tired. He just wanted to settle down peacefully and not have to look over his shoulder constantly.
He was brought out of his thoughts when the stranger approached, finally lifting his head (and having to raise his head a bit more than usual since the guy was massive). Taking in the otherβs appearance, his eyes would widen slightly, confused. A.. clown? He wasnβt one to judge (his hair was purple after all), but it was an odd change compared to all the old people that came to the store frequently. He almost didnβt catch the strangerβs words, but his attention was grabbed once heard his name. His heart caught in his throat and he found it difficult to breathe. He wasnβt wearing a name tag, it wasnβt necessary here, but even then, heβd use an alias. The fact that this guy knew his name meant that he knew him, right? Knew who he was?
He found difficulty swallowing, as if cotton balls were stuck in his throat. Heβd manage out a weak laugh, the noise doing little to break the tension, as he started to ring up the otherβs pistachios. βI donβt know who Baekhyun is, Iβm sorry. Perhaps you had me confused with someone else?β Feigning innocence, he glanced down at his hands as he counted out the strangerβs change. He was glad for the small distraction, not wanting to look the βclownβ in the face again.
Eventually, he had to anyway. Holding out the change, he stared at the stranger expectantly and nervously, biting at his lower lip once more. The taste of iron filled his mouth but he barely registered it, anxiety filling him to the core and blocking out his every senses.

Seraphim is just a clown in a crop top, let him live)
A pout formed on his painted lips the moment Baekhyun's expression changed to one of fear- something he very much disliked seeing, especially when all he was attempting to do was speak someone- but he wouldn't get angry, instead pushing the other's hand back toward him and murmuring 'keep it'. He didn't understand why the other was trying to tell him lies about his name, obviously he already knew it and Baekhyun's face, what was the point of that? He scanned the shorter man once more, taking in his posture, tense muscles, and nervous expression. He looked ready to bolt, but Seraphim couldn't have that happen, he'd get in trouble. "I'm not with the police, if that's what you're thinking. I'm not here to take you to prison, or abduct you or something. I came to take you somewhere safe." He gave a bright smile once he finished speaking, picking up the snack container he purchased and shoving it in the handbag(definitely not a purse) resting on his hip. He didn't pull away from it right then, though, and took a good minute to dig around, his brows furrowing when he couldn't find what he was searching for right away. After some time and another big grin- this one triumphant- he pulled a piece of folded paper from the bag, a tube of lipstick following. After placing the paper in front of Baekhyun he applied a generous amount of the crimson coloured makeup to his top lip, then reached back once more and repeated the action, this time with the colour black and his bottom lip. The contrasting hues were eye-catching, bringing attention straight to his face, exactly where he desired it to be. Those at camp were beginning to get too used to his appearance and it was no longer fun to be around them, so this trip was definitely something he needed to fulfill his never-satisfied hunger for attention. (aaahh, another short one :L ))

(Baekhyun is tiny compared to him lol,,, Seraphim is giant to him)
Eyeing the other warily, Baekhyun slowly took his hand back, returning the change into the register. He was glad for the distraction, hoping that the stranger would just leave now while Baekhyun didn't have his focus on him. Didn't he have other things to do? Other than nearly give Baekhyun a heart attack? Other than just unnerve him and scare him half to death? Of course, he was still struggling with the fact that the figure in front of him knew who he was. What made it even more suspicious was the fact that the stranger didn't make any moves to call the authorities. He knew that he was worth a lot and this reaction was confusing him.
He was so deep in his thoughts that he barely flinched when he saw the stranger (out of the corner of his eye) move to pull something out of their bag. He really didn't even register the words that were being spoken to him beforehand, staring at the paper with narrowed eyes.
Once his brain finally caught up to him and he understood what the other was saying, he glanced up, laughing softly. "Safe?" He repeated, almost incredulously. His voice would still be quiet, not wanting to draw any more attention to himself. "There's nowhere safe for me, please don't test your luck." (Normally, he wouldn't be so rude and brisk, but his stress levels were disgustingly high and brought out a nastier side to him.)Shaking his head, he slid the paper back in the direction of the stranger. He didn't even read it, and glanced at the clock, hoping and praying that the other would just leave. He still had twenty minutes left in his shift and just really wanted to go home without any issues. He returned his gaze to the stranger in front of him, lips pursed in a small frown, twitching every now and then as he bounced on his heels.

(a giant clown man who knows you by name but is also massive? Nightmare fuel))
He frowned, even rolling his eyes at Baekhyun's claim of having nowhere safe to go. He took the paper back only to unfold it, holding out the now crumpled document, which had official signatures and a very neatly written out message; it wasn't from him of course, but from the camp officials who desired to have the other join them there. It entailed that Baekhyun was be guaranteed complete safety from the authorities, a place to stay for however long he pleased, free meals, and a warm, welcoming environment. He tried to give the other the paper again, saying that he really wouldn't want to miss out on this opportunity, he at least needed to go over what was written. He slid the paper over the counter once more, but now it could be seen that one of the signatures was actually moving, the ink almost dancing on the page. That was the work of Dionysus, one of the camp counselors(only one because he was forced to be). Seraphim didn't take notice of the movement, too focused on trying to get this small human to go with him; after all, if he returned without him, he was definitely going to be punished, and he wasn't a fan of that. (this is too short im sorry ugh,, im brain dead again)

(lol Iβm surprised Baekhyun hasnβt just bolted out the store yet)
Furrowing his brow, Baekhyun finally took a good look at the paper slid towards him. He thought that if maybe he pretended to be interested and just played along, the other would just leave him alone. After all, fifteen more minutes left in his shift. It seemed highly unlikely that heβd be left alone by the other, but it was definitely worth a shot.
Taking the paper in his hands gently, he started to read it. Truth be told, he internally laughed at the words. A safe place to stay? A welcome environment? Apparently, he was a wanted criminal, how could there be a place like that for someone like him? As he thought to himself, he caught a small amount of movement on the page. Squinting, his eyes soon narrowed in confusion and he glanced up at the stranger, thinking that maybe the other drugged him or something.
But that wasnβt possible. The other hadnβt even been around the store until just now, there was no way Baekhyun wouldnβt have noticed him loitering around, the face makeup was pretty easy to recognize.
Huffing under his breath, he pointed to the moving words, βWhat kind of technology is this?β That was the only reasonable explanation, right? That it was just technology making them move, that he wasnβt going crazy.

Seraphim felt a sense of relief spread over him once Baekhyun finally took the paper and scanned his eyes over it, seemingly reading what had been neatly written by the camp official. After a bit, he found himself receiving a suspicious gaze and that caused him to frown in confusion; he didn't believe he did anything to make him seem untrustworthy, he did his best to be friendly and passive toward the other. The question from the other pulled him out of his thoughts and he looked at what the male was pointing at, which was a signature on the page. He was puzzled, not understanding what was odd, at least up until he remembered that Baekhyun was unfamiliar with things like this. "It's not technology," He began with a slight laugh, reaching forward and ripping some of the thin paper to show that, efficiently 'scaring' the writing into moving further up the page. "That's just Dionysus' signature. It does that sometimes when he drinks too much, but he can't really control it." He stopped speaking quickly, swallowing what saliva was left in his now dry mouth. Just the mention of alcohol brought back the cravings for it, something he struggled with for the majority of his life. He had a past with alcohol and drug abuse, harsh addictions that began far too early in life and took too long to get over, as he had still been using until recently(Two years back). He had tiny scars littering the insides of his arms and a multitude of health problems, things he was insecure about and preferred to keep to himself; the biggest thing he was struggling with now was leaving alcohol behind, but of course that was difficult with Dionysus(Bacchus is the Roman equivalent), who happened to be his grandfather, always around with some type of drink, mostly wine, in his hand. He talked to someone at camp about it in the past and he learned that it wasn't entirely his fault, since his father, Comus, was a god of excess, someone who indulged heavily in things he likely shouldn't. But part of it also fell on Seraphim for getting into those things in the first place instead of dealing with guilt and sadness the way a person should. With a shake of his head and an insecure cross of his arms, Seraphim came back to reality and focused his gaze once more on the man he was attempting to recruit. ((This stinks yikes)

Baekhyun just stared at the other, his brows furrowing in confusion. He looked at the paper again when the stranger ripped it apart, making a soft sound of surprise when the words seem to move quickly in the opposite direction of the tear. His brain couldn't comprehend what was going on, there was clearly no logical explanation for this. Was this some sort of cruel joke? Some weird reality show? 'Trick the criminal into believing there's an escape before locking him up for life'?
None of what the other was saying was making sense to him. Dionysus? Moving words? This was too much. Way too much for someone running on three hours of sleep a day. Maybe the stranger in front of him was just a figment of his imagination, that he was just going insane.
Shaking his head, he took a step away from the counter, his back hitting the wall behind him as his breathing levels slowly starting to rise. He could feel the beginnings of a panic attack starting to occur, something he definitely didn't want to go through in the presence of the other, a hallucination or not. With a quick glance at the clock, he realized that he could leave in five minutes. But what if he leaved now? Surely his boss didn't mind if he left a little early? There was no one here anyway (and his boss was in the back), so it wasn't like the place was unattended. Plus, he could see the co-worker taking over his shift pulling up in the parking lot now.
Shoving his sweaty palms in his pockets, he managed to shoot the stranger a shaky smile. Taking deep breaths to calm his nerves (it didn't work), he made his way around the counter and to the other. All he had to do was pretend to agree, and run at the last second. His place was ten blocks away, something he clearly couldn't run fast enough, so he would have to lose the stranger in the crowd. Of course, Baekhyun was at a disadvantage since the other was tall, but he was almost positive he could blend in with the crowd, purple hair and all (he was small enough, he had to be).
Once he was close enough, he opened his mouth as if he was to accept the other's offer, but only a soft "I'm sorry" slipped past his lips instead before he darted out the convenience store and in the direction of his shabby apartment, easily dodging the strangers as he turned the corner. Of course, he was too busy trying to make sure he wasn't being followed that he didn't even notice the looming shadow above him.
(lol i'm trying to make Baekhyun react like a normal human in a situation like this?? ifaifawef like, not him immediately agreeing to the camp? rfaefse it's causing angst and makes him seem like a bad person but the poor bab is just confused and hasn't been sleeping much to think clearly lol pls give him time and love)
