"I guess you could say power. I would prefer it being that. Its not the best to have, its more like a curse than a gift at times." His finger drew circles on the table before his gaze lifted up to stare at the other through narrowed eyes. "Ive been through bad encounters with people and its ended with hate. They dont like me as a person I guess. Im kind of the person to try to get to know people and eventually some just fall off so..." The males voice faded as he trailed off, his hand pressing flat to the surface before curling each finger inward to form a fist. "I know a lot of people in many ways and it comes back to bite you." Lane shrugged as he forced a half smile,"Though, to answer the question of why Im here is just cause Im interested. Odd looks seem to run around me so I like to know about 'em. It just tells me theres something interesting about that person."

Sam squinted slightly. Were people trying to bully Lane? Sure he barely knew the guy, but this didn't sit well with him. As much as he liked to go against the stereotype of his appearance and his whole...everything, he was sure that a little intimidation tactics would clear that problem right up for him. "Sometimes it seems like all people do in this place is judge each other," he sighed, taking another bite of his sandwich and catching Lane's gaze. "If you need any...help, you can come to me." Yeah that didn't sound like some sort of cryptic insight into a secret assassin history, not at all. Sam swallowed hard at Lane's words and looked away. "I'm not really that interesting, so I'll probably disappoint you."

"Ill note it mentally, though Im sure Im fine unless someone suddenly has the ability to use water and just drown me I suppose." The light heart smile shaped his face as he sat up straight,"You arent wrong about people judging one another. Thats going to happen here sadly. Some believe they have better things than others when we are all here for the same reason, right?" Silence fell over him as he looked the other over for a short moment and taking in the comment,"Eh? Dissapointed. Dont see how. If anything that would be me more than you Im sure. Look at y-" His hand covered his mouth instantly as he grunted and clenched his teeth,"Not trying to make you feel different. Youre not but are in a good way." He instantly bit his own tongue as he slowly leaned back into his seat, his cheeks heating up as he folded his arms over his chest. "Its hard to try not to seem offensive when some jump on it too quick and assume. It was like this morning with Elle. She's more than right you know. You do look cool. People may think differently about it sure.." A single hand lifted as he lowered his head,"But doesnt matter."

Sam tried not to sweat at the irony of the situation. He didn't know Lane well enough to know his abilities, and he was sure Lane didn't really know anything about his either. He thought better of saying anything, trying to focus on Lane's attempts to be kind, which were as charming as they were hilarious. The guy was trying so hard, Sam never thought he'd see someone embarrass themself over him. He cracked a small grin. "It's okay, I've heard almost every insult in the book, you'd have to try really hard to offend me," he shrugged, smile widening to reveal his sharp teeth. "I think it's less of people being rude and rather them being scared. But I appreciate the..kind words. Hard to come by, yknow. I'm sure people are wrong about you too."

"Could be." Lane muttered as he sat on the thought for a moment before looking back up to Sam, his lips parting to reveal his white teeth. "Im sorry to hear the lack of kindness toward you. It must really be hard then, unless you just ignore it at this point." He shifted around again as he tried to regain his previous posture."I think it could be nice to be a bit intimidating to people just by appearance. Can avoid people easily, their drama. Still have a few people who enjoy you no matter what." Shaking his head swiftly he raised his brows a bit before softening his voice. "Nothing big happening but people spilling drama and causing more drama. That, and fighting." Light brows straightened as he pressed his lips together,"I dont wanna be that kind of person to throw out the ability question instantly, but I wont lie I want to know since you look cool. If it makes you feel any better, I can just make fire and all that goodness. Nothing spectacular."

"You make a good point, but it's hard to have a few close friends if everyone is scared of you from the get-go," Sam nodded, resting his arms on the table now. He was a chronic sloucher, an old habit from trying to look smaller than he was, ever since he had his growth spurt. Lane's words made him a little more confident though, and he was sure the guy would see right past it somehow. Ah, the ability question. Sam chewed on his lip at the reveal of Lane's power, having had a sneaking suspicion. He wasn't sure if he was intrigued or worried. "That sounds cool to me," he offered, then tugged down the raised collar of his shirt to reveal pale gills along his neck. "Mine is um...kind of hard to explain. Ironically enough...water-based."

Chuckling, the blonde nodded,"Very. Though, even more interesting if you ask me. Fire is cool and all but can kill...and engulf almost anything." Hazel rested on the pale gills as he took it in,"Id say you swim real well then. Correct me if Im wrong, Im not an expert guesser here." Lane closed his eyes and leaned his head to the side, blonde strands sliding slowly across his eyes as he thought. "Spooky lookin guy, but quiet and nice. I would have been a little more shocked if you were aggresive. However!" He placed both hands on the table as he hummed the rest of his sentence,"Im very pleased I did come over here to talk. A lot more than I was planning to be shared already, not complaining. Normally it takes a lot to get people up and willing to talk to someone willing to talk anytime of the day."

"Maybe you just need someone around to keep you in check," Sam pointed out, smiling slightly at the comment about his own ability. He let out a small laugh, scratching the back of his head. "Let's just say I'm a very good lifeguard. When the children aren't terrified of me, of course." Sam returned to fiddling with the plastic bag of his food idly, trying not to meet Lane's eyes too much. He had to admit the guy had quite a stare, and considering his own, that was saying something. His ears reddened at being called nice and he dipped his head, embarrassed. "I'm...glad you came over to talk too. Most people don't really care enough to ask me stuff."

Lane furrowed his brows as he took in the fair embarassment before his face became smooth besides the angle made from his smile. "Im more than happy to chat as much as you'd want. Even after school. Honestly, no matter the time. I dont really have anything else to do at home." Swallowing hard, his body stiffened before shifting unconfortably. "But.. the children thing, sounds entertaining enough. Kids running around and away from you as well. More like a type of gym if you ask me." Forcing a smile, the blonde nodded his head and purred,"Though keeping me in check I dont think will ever happen. Im a talker but still manage to slip out when needed and um... we will leave it at that. What happens after that depends."

oops sorry i vanished cause i was doing some stuff for my dnd campaign thats starting up soon)
Elle walked out of the classroom her last class was in and ran her fingers through her light brown hair. She was ready to go home. Beyond ready to go home. All she wanted to do was take a nap and eat something covered in grease. She walked over to her locker and let out a frustrated sigh as the infernal thing refused to open. "By all that is divine and beyond-" she swore under her breath as she slumped against the locker. Perhaps she would just go to her next class without her books, though her wallet was in there so that was an issue.

Elle jumped as the locker opened against her head and rubbed at her forehead where the pressure of the door opening had been felt. She looked around and found a girl looking in her direction. Did they help her? Offering a thankful smile, she got what she needed from her locker before closing it. She glanced over at the girl and walked over gripping the strap of her messenger bag. "Hi, did you help me? With the locker?"

Sam laughed a little. "Of course it sounds entertaining to you, you should really see it for yourself," he insisted, thinking back to many a pool experience where someone clawed their way out of his arms as he was trying to help them. Awkward and insulting, to be honest. Some people would rather drown than be saved by him, and that was just how it is. "Though...I wouldn't mind hanging out I guess," he added, saying it like it were a foreign thing. It really had been awhile since he'd had some close friends. Not that Lane had to jump right into that, of course. Clearing his throat, he pointed a finger at Lane. "You just need backup."

Sam shrugged. "We all have issues. I think I can deal with it," he nodded, affirming it to himself. To be a friend was to help them with their problems, a mutual help. A good friendship, at least. "Your power isn't so scary to me. You'd sooner hurt me emotionally than burn me," he snorted, drumming his fingers on the table. This was definitely how to make friends with people, right?
