My sister's boyfriend bought her a used car, and my dad is complaining to me about how he's "not a real man" and that he obviously has "no respect for her" because the car doesn't have AC. Shouldn't it be good enough that he bought her one at all so she could get to work?
It's especially ironic that my dad thinks her boyfriend has no respect for her when he himself has literally no respect for women and is the most sexist person I've ever met, and the reason all of my brothers are sexist as well. Like he's constantly telling me how I shouldn't be in school and that I should be doing household chores and uhh... sexual things for men.

Tealraven It really isn't. I mean I live in Arizona so no AC sucks, but it's better than not being able to get to work on time everyday and losing your job. Also my dad has quite a bit of money so I don't think he has room to complain seeing as he could easily have bought her a car himself if he was really that worried.

sand dollar Thank you, and yeah I don't know. I think it has to do with him just being biased because he already doesn't like her boyfriend. He thinks he's rude and disrespectful when it's pretty obvious that he's just shy and doesn't talk much because of it.

@leopardbreath7ate9 Yeah it was still $2000 since he wanted to get something decent that won't break down constantly. Which wouldn't be a big deal for someone who already has tons of money, but he actually saved up for months to afford it. Also I actually don't live with my dad, I'm just currently here because he just had a kidney transplant and someone has to be with him at all times for 5 weeks. Luckily I'm switching with my siblings in a couple of days so I don't have to stay for the whole 5 weeks. I don't think I could deal with that lol.

Dude, I'm currently driving my parents 'soccer mom's van' that has no A.C., and I can get by any day without ac. I love it. Just roll down the window and I'm fine as ever. I'd fall for any guy who'd do anything that sweet and thoughtful. It's a freakin CAR. it's EXPENSIVE. and most likely they're a fairly young couple, right? You have to start somewhere and deal with what you have and make the best of it

that's...excessive
I mean I know how miserable my friend was in her $100 death trap with a permanently-on heater but
that's pretty ridiculous

GattoGelato The issue here is that her car sits outside so it gets to 150+ degrees inside and rolling the windows down doesn't cool it off since the air is hot. But a car is a car and that's still crazy for him to buy a car for her like that. Her work's not that far away, she's been riding a bike but she has health problems that make it super painful for her. So yeah, caring enough to save up his money like that to help her should be enough, and she's grateful so I don't see why my dad even cares. Plus, riding a bike out in the heat is probably just as bad if not worse since you're also exercising. tiger beetle It's weird because he wouldn't have thought it to be disrespectful for him not to have bought her a car, but for some reason buying a car that has no AC is more disrespectful in his mind.

yeah I wasn't arguing with you don't worry
also, "this car doesn't have ac" is less of a problem than "this car is a death trap with multiple broken parts and it's impossible to turn off the heater, plus the alarm goes off randomly" and even then buying the car is probably better than not buying the car
