Darkspeck with Honeysplash
Needless to say, Darkspeck was so absorbed in his own perceived misery that he was totally oblivious to his surroundings. Honestly, if a jay flew over his head, he would hardly notice. Admittedly, the speckled tom jumped a little at hearing someone addressing him, whirling around with widened eyes. Honeysplash. The she-cat that had been on his mind all morning. StarClan, why couldn't it have been one of his siblings? They would've understood his need for privacy. Or, better yet, some random cat he didn't know very well, he could have just told them to mind their own business. Not so with Honeysplash, though. She was a sensitive soul, always caring about the feelings of others, and he didn't want her to feel like she was unwanted. He felt his fur grow hotter - why did she always manage to catch him by surprise? Then again, that served as a small bit of comfort to him. Were it any other she-cat, he probably would have made a biting remark to hide his embarrassment, but Honeysplash had already seen him through his worst. He vividly remembered her comforting words when he was suffering from nightmares, and how she had been there to support him after Hornetpaw's death.
"Honeysplash!" he managed to sputter out, unsure of what to say.
"I... uh..." His mind raced in trying to decide what to say. Should he cover up what he was talking about or just admit the truth? Once it seemed that her words truly registered in his mind, the tom was taken aback - her calm tone confused him. Why was she so mellow about this ordeal while his heart was hammering out of his chest? If she had overheard his complaining (he took shame in knowing that), as it sounded like she had, she must have understood what a serious matter this was.
"You want to help me find a jay's feather? Really? I mean... you can come with me if you want to. But i-it's not like I care either way whether you do!" Admittedly, the tom was a bit incredulous. How
lame was it that the very she-cat he was planning to present it to had to go and offer her aid in finding one? If he'd only kept his mouth shut, it could have stayed a surprise. Well, so much for the perfect proposal - things were already not going his way. Still, he tried to remind himself to look at the bright side; if nothing else, even at the cost of looking like a fool, at least he would get to spend a bit more time with the pretty she-cat!
Cloudpaw with Coalpaw
Cloudpaw stirred at the soft voices from inside the medicine cat's den.
Silverstar, Crowfang, and Deerberry. Stifling a yawn, the tom sat up and looked around. Right, the tom had fallen asleep eventually last night after trying to stay up to keep a watchful eye on Cinderspark's condition. Not wanting to disturb the leader's conversation with Deerberry, Cloudpaw dipped his head with respect to the two cats before leaving the den to give them some privacy. Whatever they needed to talk about, Deerberry would debrief him on it later if it was important. Making his way into camp, the tom debated on what to do. He knew he should head back eventually to relieve Deerberry for a bit - it looked like the tom hadn't slept a wink last night! - but now wasn't a good time. Instead, his eye drifted to the nursery.
Right. Amidst the commotion, he'd almost forgotten that Silas had dropped off his kits yesterday. Now was as good a time as any to check on their conditions - he couldn't imagine how hard life must have been for them alone out there. Leaf-bare was hard for the clan too, let alone a loner and his kits. That wasn't to say Cloudpaw
liked Silas, not at all really, but his heart did go out to the little ones.
Still, Cloudpaw was a bit apprehensive about going alone. He didn't want to scare the kits, especially with the scar in one eye. Perhaps some company would make the visit more enjoyable. Almost subconsciously, he made his way to the apprentice area and looked around for Coalpaw. Seeing her at her nest, he carefully maneuvered his way through the clumps of still-sleeping apprentices to reach her side.
"Good morning Coalpaw," he said quietly, trying to avoid being told to shut up by those nearby,
"what do you think of visiting the nursery today?"
Nightraven with Cloudfrost
For some reason, Nightraven felt a bit more alert than usual today despite how early in the morning it was. And although he was troubled by Cinderspark's demotion, he preferred not to let it show; he didn't know the deputy - rather, former deputy - very well, but he was still taken aback by the news Silverstar had to give. It just never occurred to him that anyone could be fraternizing with someone outside the clan. In any case, the tom figured he could worry about it on his own time, without troubling his clanmates. Instead, he focused on looking around at those who were awake, trying to gauge their reactions about everything that had happened. It wasn't easy to forget everything in just a day, after all! Seeing the familiar white-and-gray fur of Cloudfrost, the dark-furred tom couldn't help but notice that she was definitely not in her usual cheery mood - he recalled that she was usually a ball of energy, which certainly wasn't the case now -, probably still troubled by the commotion. Putting a friendly smile on his features, he made his way over to her and waved his tail as a greeting.
"Hello Cloudfrost!" he said cheerfully, wondering if a more light-hearted tone would ease her worries.
"You look like you have a lot on your mind. Want to talk about it? I'm always willing to lend an ear." Perhaps the tense atmosphere of the camp was getting to her, and if Nightraven could ease her worries, why oughtn't he?
Stormpetal with Ripplewave and Heronclaw
Well, some...
dramatic events had gone down the day before, but today would be different and Stormpetal decided, to make up for yesterday's events, that she would rise early to make the most of it! Still, the she-cat wasn't used to waking so early except for the dawn patrol, and her green eyes were starting to droop as she sat in camp. Just as she debated on giving up and going back to her nest to sleep until sunhigh, the voice of two arguing brothers jolted her awake, and she glanced at the warrior's area to see Ripplewave and Heronclaw at it again.
Great StarClan, those two are complete opposites of each other! she thought to herself. Normally, she might've been annoyed by their antics, but she had to admit they did save her the embarrassment of falling asleep in the middle of camp. Seeing that the two were headed out on a border patrol, she quickly walked over to them.
"Hey!" she said abruptly as a greeting to get their attention.
"If you're going on patrol, I'll come too!" Although she sounded cheerful enough, her tone indicated that she wouldn't be too pleased with a 'no' for an answer. Besides, now was as good a time as any to start exercising Silverstar's new policy of chasing off
any loners that wanted to try something funny. More cheekily, the she-cat added with a hint of amusement in her eyes,
"You know. Just to make sure you two don't claw each other's fur off while you're out and about." By the way Heronclaw constantly grated Ripplewave's nerves, it was very much in the realm of possibility! She was perfectly fine with them killing each other on their own time, just not while she was around. Just what would she tell Silverstar when she came back with their dead bodies?
"My apologies Silverstar, I couldn't keep Ripplewave off of Heronclaw." She would look, suffice to say, incompetent, and that was simply not an option.
