Breezeflame padded away from where he had been talking with Scorchflower and gave a small snort. The tom had decided to head out for a walk because well, frankly the she-cat had quite bored him. There was only so much conversation with others he could take, especially when talking about energetic cats he generally payed no mind to. Twitching his whiskers, the black smoke tabby slipped from the camp, shivering slightly as the cold air hit him. He had been in camp so long that morning that he had almost forgotten it was leaf-bare. If only that forgotten thought could have made the cold season actually go away.
Continuing forward, the large tom let a small smile fall across his muzzle at the sights of the territory. While he had always enjoyed it, Breezeflame wasn't one to shown his emotions, unless he was angry or annoyed. As honest as he was he was a stoic, a cynic even. Not that he minded, of course. It was another's fault if they couldn't handle him.

Sedgecloud & Breezeflame }
Soft misty rain blurred the lines of the land. From afar it may have appeared mildly romantic; delicate branches piercing the skyline like needles, a thin white cloud coating the meadows and the canopy, adding a peaceful tone, the hazy outline of the two legs dens full of wonder and promise. But the sheer curtain of precipitation could only mask so much. Any creature living among these stretching lands knew of the hard times that would soon be arriving with the bitter wind. Waves will wash over the camp, drownding everyone in a sea of tension and agression. And that awfully charming mist of rain tended to soak through any and all fur, slowly but surely seeping coldly through to the skin. This was her world, her cage. She knew of only one key that would free her from this soiled existence; if she would ever find such a mythical thing was uncertain.
A mouse and a scrawny squirrel swung jauntily from her jaw. There was scarcely much she could find –a few undersized mice and a squirrel or two. It would have to do, but Sedgecloud was never pleased with what she brought home. In truth, it was never good enough for her, the things they had. She wanted more –she wanted to strive for something other than this pathetic excuse for a life. Was that really so unfair? Sedgecloud was not one of those who were simply more inclined towards making their displeasure known but thats besides the point. Small shoulders hunched against the weak spray of rain, curling her petite form into itself in feeble protection from the elements as she made her way homewards. She kept her gaze to the muddy ground, watching every sludgy step she took, frowning at the manner in which her paws suctioned into the brown dirt and debris. Sedgecloud became so immersed in the vile truth of the seemingly romantic weather that she did not notice that she was going in the wrong direction of camp.
There was a sound that made her ears perk. A rustling of movement, of footfall, though it was distant she knew a creature was wandering great lengths away. Like a sail being pulled taught against the wind, she tensed. Tensing her haunches she crouched and swiftly slipped into the shadows of thick foliage and rocks, the darkening umbrage swallowing the thin slated feline. The she-cat proceeded forward through the thickening foilage, leaves crunching under-foot. She did not take the time to simply tilt her cranium back and scent the air before she pressed forth, She was in one of those moods where she could care less if there was a badger lurking in the shadows, awaiting his next meal which would soon become Sedgecloud. It was only when the armoa of another cat forcefully shot up her nostrils did she check the air. Parting her jowls she inhaled the chilling air, her nares flaring and twitching. At first only the piercing scent of cold shot up her nose, causing her eyes to become somewhat glossy. It was then, when the scent smell of a tom traveled through her nose that she knew she wasn't alone. She searched for the broad frame that would make up the tom. There. Across the scream that broke the land in two she spotted the tom, she watched with curiosity as he ventured on, not caring to alert him of her presence.
sorry this is long, i have the opposite problem and always make longer ones in the beginning lol and then they just shrink and shrink and shrink

--
Breezeflame hadn't noticed the damp are until the steady stream of rain drops had gotten stronger. The tom let out a hiss as he felt the water droplets creep through his thick pelt and onto his skin. "What a miserable day." He muttered, lashing his tail. The warrior had been hoping for the sun to be out, or at least cloudy with no chance of rain. The only thing that was worse than a cold sunny day was a cold rainy day, and that's exactly what this was.
With a huff he padded on, pricking his ears as the gurgling sound of the stream flooding around him. He hadn't been paying much attention to where he was going, only that he was in fact going. His mind was being taken over by blank thoughts as he took each step, trying to cleanse itself of the constant nagging in generally did. As the stream came into view the tom quickened his pace. His mouth was dry with thirst. Breezeflame wasn't excited about getting any more wet, but it would be necessary for water.
The black tabby stepped up to the bank of the stream, twitching his whiskers when he noticed a familiar figure. "Great." He muttered, lashing his tail. "Just great." He had come this far into the territory to avoid other cats, not run into them! Dipping his head in greeting, Breezeflame crouched down and dipped a paw into the ice cold water. He gasped and jerked it out quickly, feeling the stinging sensation rush through his paw and all the way through his body. Painful, but energizing, the tom did it once more, this time lapping at his paw once he pulled it out.

Sedgecloud & Breezeflame }
The darkening umbrage swallowed the fae, though it did not shield her from the rain. Her beautiful coat now cladded her form. Leaf-bare had not been kind to her nor her clanmates. Exhaustion stained her dark eyes and hunger ravaged her bones. There was a weakness that persisted, deteriorating her. She was exceedingly exhausted; it dragged her down with unknown weight. "It's just the changing of seasons" she kept telling herself but that was moons ago when the trees were bleeding and as time pulled at her flesh, nothing came. Surmounting frustration continued to rise as each day passed without a conclusion. This wasn’t about her mother, it was about her; making this all the more difficult. She understood her mother, for the most part, she knew her cruelty. She, however, was a stranger to herself.
It was in the early hours of the day had she decided to venture into the cruel weather on her own. Yes, it had mostly been at the hand of Dewstripe's persuasion, but deep down she needed to leave camp for the same reason Breezeflame needed to. Away from the prying eyes of their clanmates. Sure she loved and cared for them with all of her heart, however, they exhausted her. She had things to sort out. However, her attempts were not met with success, she had neglected reflection and traded it with hunting. Her paws had taken her to the stream without any thought process connected to it. And now here she stood, in the miserable rain, across the stream from Breezeflame.
Sedgecloud had never had the honor - if you can call it that - of conversing with the tom. Sure she had said her greetings out of politeness, but she had never engaged. She had never wanted to. He was sour- no. He was bitter. A pitiful, bitter thing he was. Well, is. Sedgecloud had observed him in camp briefly but it was enough for her to conclude that she didn't want anything to do with him, he spoke unkindly and lacked genuinity. She took a couple of steps forward, her paws softly touching the chilled earth, leaving only her soft aroma behind. The dappled fae lightly dipped her head in greeting. "Great if you want to freeze your paw off," she said in her chime-like voice. She was well aware that that was not the context of what he had said, but it humored her. And that was all she gave him, a simple nod and a snarky comment and she was on her way again. With the flick of her tail she turned and trotted away, following the line of the stream.

Breezeflame looked up from the grooming of his paw when he heard Sedgecloud talking. Rolling his eyes, the tom set his paw back down on the earth. "It gives you a rush. Maybe you should try it some time." He said with a snort, flicking his tail against the ground as he watched the she-cat pad away. She looked terrible. Standard beautiful pelt clinging to her like wet paper, eyes dark and clouded. She looked starving, almost like a living dead cat. Blinking, Breezeflame stood up and padded after the she-cat, watching her from across the stream.
While normally the tom wouldn't be so interested in deep conversation with another warrior, he did care about his clanmates and wanted to make sure they were alright. "Hey." He called, eyeing the stream carefully before jumping over a slimmer part. "Are you alright? You look like fox-dung." His words were blunt and lacking a filter, but that was typical for the tom. He wasn't graceful with his words, and never had been. It was really up to the listener to determine whether he was being harsh or not. But in this case, he wasn't.

Sedgecloud & Breezeflame }
The darkening umbrage swallowed the fae back up as she proceeded forward through the thinning foilage, dead leaves crunching under-foot. Her paws had taken her to the stream, she now hoped that they would take her somewhere useful, like back to camp. She was getting tired of this dreary weather, it only reminded her of her mother, Spiderstrike, and her never-ending complaints of the forsaken mud and the absolutely dreadful rain. She mused to herself, her mother was absolutely dreadful. Sedgecloud was pulled from her thoughts once more as the tom's voice resurfaced. She didn't bother to turn around to acknowledge him, nor stop, she was content with her walk and would not allow the tom to disturb her. "Wow, you sure do know how to make a cat feel good about themselves," her song-like voice carrying behind her. Why did he have to follow, why couldn't he have just fallen in the river and been carried away. However, if he had been swept away her instincts would've told her to go swimming after him, probably. Now that she thought about it her empathy was lacking a bit. She couldn't help but smile at the thought of the tom being swept away to another land, cursing the stars and heavens all the way there while she sat on the bank waving him goodbye the whole way. It was an unrealistic thought, but amusing all the while. Finally she turned her head, her deep eyes taking in the tom's frame. Sure leaf-bare had been unkind to him, but it was a little more lenient with him. "You don't look dazzlin' either hun," she snorted as she flicked her damp tail at his face. Sedgecloud couldn't help but let a smirk dance on lips, her face immediately brightening. "Glad to see you didn't lose that paw of yours," she sang sweetly in mockery.

Breezeflame padded after Sedgecloud, his typical angered looking face looking, well, typical. His almond shaped eyes were almost always seemingly narrowed, as if he were deep in thought or just waiting for someone to mess up so he'd have to go in and save the day, reminding the clan yet again why he would have made a better choice as deputy than Cinderspark. But that was besides the point, even though everything always wound up going back to that topic for the tom. He was ambitious, bloodthirsty even, and everyone knew it. He took no interest in the lives of others unless it was good for him, and now was just like any other time. Maybe if something was wrong with Sedgecloud... Breezeflame lashed his tail. He knew he shouldn't think those thoughts about his clanmates, but he couldn't help it. They were just so annoying and helpless- especially the she-cats. At Sedgecloud's retort Breezeflame rolled his eyes. "I'll have you know, I look much better than you. At least I actually look healthy you look like a walking corpse." The way the she-cat's pelt clung to her body was completely unflattering, even for such a beautiful she-cat as herself. Leaf-bare wasn't doing anything to help her, and neither was this rain. The tabby gave a small hiss when her tail hit his nose, lashing his own in response.

Sedgecloud & Breezeflame }
She knew that leaf-bare hadn't been kind to her, though her plump, pewter gray coat usually hid the rippling of her bones. However all was visible with this, as her mother put so sweetly, god forsaken rain. It was all a mystery to her, she was fine, and then just like that her weight slipped from her bones. Violetdawn had approached her about her dropping weight but she had just brushed her away, claiming that it was just leaf bare and the loss of her mother. Ha. The loss of her mother, as if. The loss of Spiderstrike was a dream sent from the stars, no longer did she have that pitiful cat, shouting bitter cynical claims at her. She smiled to herself, Spiderstrike and Breezeflame would've gotten along well. Returning back to her original thought, her decreasing body mass was a mystery and one that she didn't care to solve. She let out a chime-like laugh at his retort, "Don't flatter yourself dear" she said theatrically, her prey swinging in her mouth as she swung her head towards him, her eyes glimmering in amusement. "Anyway, aren't we all walking corpses," she teased grimly. Sedgecloud wasn't one to be grave, but it amused her as of right now.
The rain began to pick up and she lashed her tail in disgust. How she hated the rain. Her pace quickened, praying that she would reach camp soon but they were quite some way, they were only now passing the Bright Meadow. She sighed slightly, how she wished to lay in the meadow and soak up the suns rays. But it was cold and it was miserable..

Leaf-bare hadn't been the kindest to the tom, but the majority of his weight was still there. As a large and muscular cat it wasn't hard to keep the pounds on, but it seemed that leaf-bare took a toll on every cat, himself included. Breezeflame snorted once more at the she-cat and flicked his ears back. "Are all she-cats as snarky as you?" He grumbled, narrowing his eyes. The tom had never found she-cats to be quite interesting. He was attracted to them, yes, but never once had he found one that sparked his interest. He wasn't sure if that was such a bad thing, though. But Sedgecloud... she had a personality the tom wasn't expecting. He knew the she-cat and had spoken with her before, but never like this. This was the first one-on-one conversation he had ever had with the she-cat and he was impressed. Annoyed, but impressed. As sarcastic and annoying as she was, she had a certain charm about her that interested him- not that he'd ever admit it.
As the rain picked up Breezeflame couldn't help but flatten his ears. Picking up his pace, he trotted alongside the she-cat, head lowered as he tried to avoid the rain. He had been hoping his walk would have been longer-lived than what it was, but he supposed it was better than none. The cold air clung the rain to his pelt and he hissed as the wind rushed by, sending a shiver down his spine. Oh how he hated leaf-bare.

Sedgecloud & Breezeflame }
Sedgecloud dipped her head down as the rain picked up, as if she wasn't soaked enough. Shivers raked down her spine despite her thick coat as the wind bore through the forest, rattling the branches above. She couldn't believe she wanted it but she wished it would snow. Snow didn't drench her nor cause her coat to stick to her thinning figure. She observed the manner in which her paws sunk into the slushy mud in disgust. Oh how she hated leaf-bare. It was cold and soggy and just absolutely dreadful.
She chuckled lightly, "Probably, are all toms as unpleasant as you?" He wasn't all that unpleasant, but he didn't disappoint her. He wasn't kind and was as blunt as they came. She wouldn't have chosen his company, but he was here and she wasn't going to complain. If she was going to complain it was going to be about the weather."Damn this rain, almost as dreadful as you," she managed to muffle past the swing prey that dangled in her mouth, bumping his shoulder with hers and with that she was off. Opening her strides she broke out into a run, hoping that the exhaustion she would feel after this would be worth it and warm her up.
I'm throughly enjoying this haha i didn't plan on Sedgecloud being snarky but I love it i pictured her being very calm, and zen haha zenpawww ]

----
Breezeflame gave a shrug at Sedgecloud's comment, forcing the smile that was making it's way to his face back down. "I consider myself to be better than most other toms." He said honestly. His words were more lighthearted than others, but still truthful. His ambitious persona wasn't an act. He thought himself to be better and become better than others, regardless of whoever was in his way. As the rain pelted against his fur, Breezeflame lashed his tail. "Hey!" He growled when Sedgecloud bumped him, staggering a bit due to being caught off guard. When she took off, Breezeflame rolled his eyes and followed after her. He hissed as the rain pelted his face and body, but he managed to keep up with the she-cat regardless. He was behind her, but maybe a tail's length at most. He hated the way the cold weather was hitting him, but with their current pace they were bound to get back to camp quickly. Hopefully the prey Sedgecloud was carrying wouldn't be soiled by the time they arrived.

Sedgecloud & Breezeflame }
Her chime-like laugh broke through the rain as she ran ahead. It was in that moment, the wind in her fur, cold in her nose, dirt in her paws, sky in her eyes, that she felt safe ironically enough. She was content. No longer did fear riddle her heart at the hands of her mother. No longer was she conscious of her every movement and only see it with disgust. She was happy. She was her and thats all she had ever wanted. Throwing her head back she took in Breezeflame's form. He was following not to far behind, it surprised her. She couldn't figure why, surely he was able to keep up. She was well aware that he was capable, the tom was fashioned with muscle all over his body, it was more or less the action that caught her off guard. Sedgecloud pushed the thought away,"It doesn't matter," she thought to herself. Neglecting to look forward for too long she met her unavoidable fate. Foot snagging on a loose root her body jerked forward, a yelp escaping from her jaw. Limbs and prey bowled forward into the muck and mud, she slammed into the ground, hard. Slightly dazed, embarrassment boiled on her face as a stream of nervous laughs broke past her lips. "Oh boy," she said lightly as she picked herself up. Sedgecloud couldn't help but look at her coat in disgust, now fashioning a fresh clad of mud. "Ok, now I look like fox-dung," she said spat. It was then that she noticed the two mice she had managed to catch laying in a small bubble, surely soaking up the disgusting water. Her tail lashed in frustration, "You careless mouse brained fool, can't you do anything right!" she heard her mom say. No wonder her mother constantly bothered to tell her how ungraceful she was, because well- she was. She glared at the prey and anticipated Breezeflame's cynical comments. She almost wanted them, they would take the place of her mother's.

As they ran along, Breezeflame kept his head low in attempt to avoid the stinging rain. Being drenched was inevitable, but he could at least try to make it better, especially on his eyes. He felt his paws squishing against the cold grass and mud as he ran, a slight look of disgust upon his face. The tabby was definitely a typical cat when it came to water and being clean. Before he knew it, mud had splashed up on his pelt and Sedgecloud was on the ground. Sliding to a stop, Breezeflame flattened his ears to his head as he glanced down at his muddied pelt. "Way to go." He growled, looking at the smaller she-cat that was covered in mud. "Now the prey is ruined and my pelt is dirty!" The tom lashed his tail and grabbed one of the mice in his claws, inspecting it carefully before flinging it back over to Sedgecloud. The she-cat was right. She did look like fox-dung, and as much as Breezeflame wanted to comment on that, he couldn't.

Sedgecloud & Breezeflame }
Frustration and embarrassment boiled inside her as the tom growled and grumbled. Why couldn't she be as graceful as her mother had been. Spiderstrike had obtain a certain grace, one that was admired by all that she knew. Sedgecloud however was gifted with paws not skilled in the art of fluid movements. Her eyes burned as they met Breezeflame's who mirrored just as much frustration. He caught her off guard. Where his witty comment usually was laid silence. It made her uneasy. Why hadn't he remarked his usual snooty comment. She turned away and walked a few steps away before shaking her coat to rid of the mud. Closing her eyes she took a deep breath in attempts to calm her nerves. It's fine, you'll fine more prey. And like that she was as good as new. Looking over she casted Breezeflame a smile, "I don't know, I kinda like it, the mud really compliments your eyes," she teased, her smile widening. He looked ridiculous. They looked ridiculous. Sedgecloud frowned in the manner the mouse hit the ground with a splat but picked it up regardless. Earth flooded into her mouth and it took everything in her to not spit it out in disgust. She just wanted to be home and in the warmth of her nest and clean off in the waterfall.

Breezeflame let out an undistinguishable mutter as he looked down at his pelt. The tom wanted to bad to stop what he was doing and clean himself off right then, but he knew it was pointless. As they continued on back toward camp they would just get even dirtier, so he figured it best to wait. The tom looked back up at Sedgecloud with hard green eyes, before rolling them once more at her comment. "You just can't resist me, can you?" He asked, his voice holding its normal serious tone though he was joking. It took a special cat to distinguish his rude comments from his sarcastic ones, and hopefully Sedgecloud could be that cat. If not, things would more than likely become awkward between the two quickly. And much to his surprise, Breezeflame was finding it easier to let his guard down around her.

Sedgecloud & Breezeflame }
She had misjudged the tom. No, she had misjudged herself. Yes he was dreadful company and if one was not in their greatest mood he could easily put them down, but she was beginning to enjoy his company. She found it amusing how easily worked up he got. Maybe they would become friends, who knew. She rolled her deep brown eyes at the tom, oh how awful, he was being semi pleasant. On delicate paws she floated towards him, closing the gap between them. Smirking she slid past him, her fur nearly brushing against his as she wiped her thick tail under his chin, "Why I can hardly keep my paws off," she said teasingly before breaking into a small fit of giggles. With that she gently bumped him in the side with her rump in a teasing way, awaiting the fury that would boil inside him. The grey fae purred in amusement, "Especially with that charming coat of mud you're currently fashioning" Giving her coat one last shake she pushed forward through the unmerciful rain. Hopefully it would cleanse her of the mud that clung to her pelt. With that they were on their way back to camp, they would be there in no time.

Breezeflame watched Sedgecloud closely, pale green eyes watching her every move. This she-cat was certainly something else. Snarky yet playful, flirtatious yet mysterious...she was certainly a sight to behold. Feeling her wet fur against his Breezeflame huffed, shifting his weight so he wasn't quite so close. "Come on stop." He grumbled, pulling his head away when he felt her tail against his chin. "You're going to get my pelt even more wet." He pawed at the she-cat roughly, yet playfully, as he spoke, ears pinned back. He wasn't even sure if his pelt could get anymore wet. The rain had pretty much accomplished that.
When she shook, Breezeflame snorted, shaking the water droplets out of his eyes. "Oh I know." He mewed. "They should've named me Mudflame." With an amused snort the tom followed suit, trotting after the she-cat quickly, yet still staying beside her.
