Alright, so I have a ton of artwork I've done for this guy and I'm looking for more people to draw him. So I figured instead of cluttering up peoples request topics of me just reposting these refs, I could just link them to this.
Anyway, this is Myrnin. He's a headcannon of Myrnin from Morganville Vampires by Rachel Caine, which is a book series/movie. I use him a lot in crossover RPs and he's technically my second main character, as it were. I use him as often as I use Kaitou Kid. However, I don't really have any way to link people to 'official' reference pictures of him, since a) it's a headcannon and apart from things I've requested, nothing exists on the internet that looks like him and there was never a lot out there to begin with. I mean, this person on DA got the closest to what I see him as.
So, here are the pictures I've gathered en masse over the last couple of months. I'll also take pity on both myself and you and explain all the RP content to the best of my abilities. A lot of this is out of context.
Oldest to Newest:
Slight blood warning
This was the first picture I did of him, so I was still testing out the design I had. I messed his clothing up a little, since here he's wearing boots were in the RP he was wearing slippers.
Perspective... what's that again?
Now, basically what's happening in this picture is from the RP The Thieves Museum. My and another forumer's characters were exploring the Museum when one of the statues animated itself and attacked them. One character tried to attack with a knife they'd picked up, it had no effect against a stone statue, and then they tried to shoot it with a gun. This had about as much effect. Myrnin was looking through the nearest set of drawers and picked up the first thing his hand landed on. That light in the picture (which proceeded to get stuck in his hand. the Museum isn't normal, if you hadn't guessed yet). Anyway, the quote up there in the picture is him complaining that one of the other characters was going to attack the statue with a sword. Fun fact: The sword actually worked.
This was used as a visual aid for the inside of the Museum. AKA the trash dump. I just inserted a couple of random items, but that dragon was actually in the RP scene. It was another animal statue, this time onyx instead of jade. Myrnin and the characters he was traveling with never actually met it face to face. Those paper cranes were also there.
This was drawn long after Myrnin had finally gotten that light out of his hand. It was also the one where I finally used my headcannon of Oliver. This picture, at least Oliver's part, probably comes from the short story that is in the Thieves Museum story thread in OTW called "The Man Who Cast Three Shadows". I added into the pictures all the tatters and things they both got in their clothes during their time within the Museum. Myrnin was shot with an arrow and clawed by a jade statue and Oliver picked one too many fights. Also, it must be noted, that the light in Myrnin's hand is in...well, the wrong one. It was his right hand that the light was stuck in. However, I noticed one little point at the last second (I'd actually finished everything)....the shading would be on the wrong side if I'd left it in the right hand. xD So I just moved it to the left hand.
I wanted to make a picture I could use to welcome new forumers. I thought about it for a while and decided that using something like a "Welcome to ____ State" would be cool. I wanted to use the characters I RP to be around the sign, but only so many actually were drawn. The Myrnin I drew is the one from the Museum as you can see the still tattered clothing from his wardrobe. His hair is also not tied back here, so maybe he lost his hair tie too.
Some minimalistic wallpaper or whatever it's called. This is a cropping of my siggy, which featured all my RP characters from The Paradox House. So this is the Myrnin from that RP.
Fun fact: I only ever seem to have him wearing certain clothes I describe within RP. He'd appeared in all of them, at least once, in his green sweater, grey pants, white (loose fitting) shirt, or tie-dyed pants. Then there's the one at the top where he's wearing blue-jeans, but who is counting that?
A WIP that was meant to be an avatar. On one side was supposed to be a 'light' side and the other was supposed to be a 'dark' side.
I'm still trying to finish it.
Myrnin was basically just playing around in someone else's laboratory. He 'invented' a helicopter-like toy that quickly fell apart.
He insisted on mocking Nore (Razz's OC) in-rp and the fact that paint was handy meant I couldn't resist RPing him putting it to use. The words on the floor read 'Danger Zone', by the way.
This was the watercolor painting that I have on the cover of my notebook.
As well as a headcannon ref for Myrnin, if he was a normal boy in the 21st century. The latest plot in The Paradox House has everyone turned into small children between the ages of 6 and 14. Myrnin is my oldest character that I RP (at appearing 25), but is the youngest in the plot.
Does this look familiar? It should! This was the tradition drawing I did of the same thing that happened in an RP I'm in. I played around with movement a lot more freely in this one, so the helicopter-thingy looks like it is really moving around.
Myrnin's shirts are always so... deeply shaded. I half do this cause anatomy on arms will kill me. I actually set it up specifically that he'd have a loose fitting shirt, since the wrinkles and folds wouldn't be so...odd. That didn't last as long as I thought, since it also made it very easy for someone to slash and stab it to shreds. He later just changed into a green sweater, which you see in a lot of the other pictures.
First slide in a AMV I did when Myrnin (as well as others) were in a room in the Paradox House, that he had to kill his friends. They all returned to life, as he had guessed they would, but there was a lot of angst both in and after the room. Myrnin's death count: 4. Matteo (small boy everyone really likes, Myrnin taught him to play checkers), Tenya (student, had never killed anyone before, Myrnin sympathized with him), Touka (friend of Myrnin's, known for having told him on his first day that he shouldn't trust others so easily), and L (both had a mutual understanding, of sorts. Myrnin was the first to figure out what he was actually called, as originally he used the name Ryuga.) He was also accused of killing Callie while within the room (in the slides, you probably think that's blood on his shirt. It isn't. It's actually Callie's ink, which I guess is her form of blood).
If you want to see the AMV, post the request in the comments and I'll link to it.
This was not originally intended to be ironic. But I posted it during the gladiator/hunger game themed room, so it was. When I first heard the song (One More Light (?think that's the name) by Linkin Park), I connected it with a conversation Myrnin had with Razz's OC, Nore. The Paradox House had a confession room when we hit page 666, where both Myrnin and Nore confessed to having killed someone before. Where Myrnin regretted and was horrified by his past actions, Nore wasn't. Myrnin proceeded to try and explain to her what a human life was worth.
Myrnin's in the left corner of the walking/running crowd. This was from the Paradox House RP plot, Kids on the Block. Characters were turned into younger versions of themselves.
Finished result from the WIP above. Originally supposed to be a contrasting picture between Myrnin's different sides, it now resembles more closely a Fall/Autumn picture. One side is still 'light' the other 'dark', however, so I guess it still works.
Done for Inktober to the prompt 'shattered'. Heavy symbolic meaning here. The trees in the background mean constant change. This was also the third time in the challenge that I used shattered glass, but, well, what can you do? The leaves are along the edges, in reach and something that he could put between him and the broken glass...yet he doesn't.
Honestly, when I RP him, I half believe he doesn't want to help himself...
The marks on his back could be seen as scars, tattoos, or shadows. Up to you!
The pic I drew after I saw Ice's drawing of Myrnin in his sweater.
Shading practice ft. a scene from an RP I'm in. It's amazing how the filler parts that were harder to do than the excitement are also the parts that are so fun to draw!
We don't speak of it. We know it's weird. That's because the WIP of it was Pinocchio Myrnin and you can't turn bad into good as easily as that. We counted our losses with this one.
It's still weird though. XD
Two pics with different camera settings of Myrnin from TPH Kids on the Block plot. Or arguably the School's in Session plot as well. He's 8 or 12 and a nerd from modern times. Not much changed but the 'modern' and physical age then.
The mental age is still the same, yes.
WIP from a RP I'm in. Shading pratice again, as well as trying to draw rain on a window. Myrnin doesn't have his hair tied up, so you can't really see his face.
I still need to finish just about everything to the right.
Oh look! I finished! There was about a week and a half between this and the above WIP.
Participation points to anyone who guesses who the lady is.
Playing around with a new art program. ^^ Eyes not included.
Myrnin with Lady Grey.
Weirdly, I forgot to add this until 5/26. Completely skipped over it. Whoopsy.
Long story.
Very fun to watercolor.
Like how the hair turned out.
Something from an RP. Bit melodramatic but that's half the fun.
Bit from one of Myrnin's first rooms in TPH. The other character is 7S.
This things too long, so Spoiler tags were used.
Myrnin’s lab is located at the end of an alley that narrows as you walk down it (like a funnel) until you are met with a house (don’t put too bright a shine on it. ‘Shack’ is better fitting). Once you open the door (often padlocked shut) you are met with a lot of dust, a little bit of old furniture, and the steps down into the laboratory.
The steps downward are simple concrete with a railing on one side. Watch your step.
The main room is often more cluttered than this, but it’s very likely that Claire has cleaned it recently. Potentially dangerous boxes, piles of books, and other detritus is scattered around the four counters in the center of the room. The couch and chairs are often moved around as needed. Most often by Myrnin, since Claire, if she had her way, wouldn’t have them at all. The room is about the size that a regular house would be (but that would have taken up more than two pieces of paper). Claire always has one counter claimed with orders to Myrnin not to touch anything. He never listens. To the right is the door to the library, but the couch is currently in front of the door, so we won’t both with it. Ahead are the bookcases on rollers. There’s a ladder somewhere that’s used to reach the top shelves, but we’ve lost it. If you look you can see Bob’s terrarium. The exposed door is to the closest down to the tunnels. Often times it is hidden by bookcases. The single bit of blank wall that is revealed when all the shelves are pushed against each other is where Myrnin can form the portal to … well … most anywhere.
To the left is the dividing walls that separate the main lab from the kitchen. We’ll head their next.
The kitchen is the latest edition to the lab. The lab has been completely destroyed a good four times and each time something new is added. Claire convinced Myrnin that if she was going to be called at all hours, sometimes without breakfast, at least he could have something like a break room. The sink is still (read: often) used for dumping various concoctions down. The island in the center is the only thing table-like and there aren’t any chairs yet. Random, sometimes non-cooking related, items are placed on the counters. To the right (not visible) is a refrigerator. I wouldn’t look in it if I were you …
Well, I guess now I’ll show you the tunnels. They’re threw the door that you saw directly ahead of you when you first came in. There’s another trapdoor, because the downstairs needs a downstairs. There’s a ladder down, but Myrnin often forgets it’s there and just jumps down or up. The tunnels look like they’ve been carved from rock and then fitted with exposed, old-style lightbulbs. Don’t stray from the path. There are traps and … things … down here.
The main path leads to an open room. If anything, the lighting is worse here than in the tunnels. Front and center is the computer that runs Morganville. Currently ‘Frank’, though that would be a long story if I tried to explain that. It – erm - he took three years for Myrnin to put together. He goes pretty far back into the room.
In some universes, Sam has sleeping quarters off to the left. But that’s his business.
And thus, ends our tour! Oh … you don’t know how to get back from here … I’m sure you’ll think of something! Bye now!
Myrnin with his ex-BF. I've headcannoned Myrnin as bi for ages, so with his very empty background I felt there was space for Arthur.
Updated at 12 AM.
Small Myrnin child doodle.
First time I ever tried to draw a little kid, whoops.
It took too long to update. These are all so old.
Done for Pride month. Myrnin is hinted to be bi in the canon series and I go one further and say he is. Arthur is very much an old boyfriend. His clothing match the bi flag. I actually am just going to use my dA description: The fact I used pencil proves how limited I am when it comes to coloring in things. (Wanted to use watercolor, but it's too messy without a place to set it down.)
Anyway, I believe I mentioned in a previous art piece that I headcannon Myrnin as biromantic (and graysexual). So, since last Pride Month I drew my OCs I figured I should do 'my' headcannons and non-OCs (plus this year I also drew this fellow for Autism Acceptance Month and why not stick to the theme?). Here's Myrnin!
Once again cheating with the dA descriptions: This isn't a scene from any RP. Instead, it's just a funny joke because my RP partner had a picture of Oscar Isaac (the face claim) with a cat and I joked, "Oh, but would Missy carry around the cat?"
"Who says that Missy hasn't been carrying a cat around during this entire rp?"
"If they have, please mention so Myrnin can say spiders make better pets. He could get into an argument over this."
Pro tip. Never make a joke around me. I draw it.
And that's it from me for now. I haven't drawn anything with Myrnin recently, actually. o.o Scary.
Skulls warning:
Anyway, me and a friend were discussion the gold-eyed version of Myrnin and this happened. It's basically me drawing one of his fears.
I have improved so much drawing humans since I first started RPing humans. It's great. :')

Scene from The Paradox House, where a dark version of Nico set the hallway on fire and Myrnin ended up killing him.
Myrnin's one of the ones walking up the mountain. This is another scene from TPH.
Myrnin has built a bomb with 7S before. It wasn't supposed to be a bomb. It just exploded like one.
Scene from back during the Solar Eclipse. From TPH. The wolf is Victoria.
Myrnin and Vincent is such an interesting relationship (TPH again). Honestly, they are hilarious to RP in the same room.
From two years ago, I believe? Not the art, but the scene in TPH. Myrnin was talking to Nico about insecurities (Nico's).
Back in the Hunger Game room in TPH when Myrnin was finally killed by Chamomile. There's still things to work out from that room, oh dear.
Anyway, this is Myrnin. He's a headcannon of Myrnin from Morganville Vampires by Rachel Caine, which is a book series/movie.
