SWIFTSTRIKE LightClan camp | Morning | With Nightstorm ( ♡ Bun ♡ - Did you want to reply to the Morningpaw/Spottedlight/Grayinglight conversation? I didn't want it to get too far without your input. Also, meh, I kind of hate Swiftstrike's profile, but it'll do for now.) Swiftstrike found herself awakening unusually early. Something nagging and persistent tugged at her brain, just a mouselength out of reach, and she rose, blinking disorientedly, before her eyes fell on Leafkit's sleeping form and she remembered the previous day's events. She considered padding over and waking the sleeping kit, but she ultimately decided against it. Leafkit was still young enough to get away with sneaking in some extra rest, and a dark part of Swiftstrike knew from experience that she might need some sleep after the day she'd had. Besides, she remembered, there was nowhere left for Leafkit to go. She'd always be welcome in their den, but they couldn't very well take a kit out hunting or let her shadow them on patrol. She swallowed, suddenly uncomfortable. Guilt rose up in her like a mounting storm, but still, she turned and limped out of the den, leaving Leafkit safe in slumber with her Clanmates huddled around her. She stopped at the mouth of the den and surveyed the camp. Over by the preachers' den, she could see Spottedlight talking animatedly with one of the apprentices and Grayinglight. Her lip curled with contempt, and she had to force herself to turn her head before one of them noticed and decided to admonish her for yet another display of "disrespect." Of course I don't respect you, she wanted to yowl. Monsters. Look what you've done to this Clan. They weren't alone. Her gaze drifted to Nightstorm, climbing out of his own den across camp. She thought of the way that he'd tensed beside her as his mother snarled and spat and brought the wrath of StarClan down upon his sister. She wondered how he was feeling in the wake of yesterday's outburst, especially without a group of cats who'd been through most of the same things to curl around him and whisper comfort. She couldn't imagine going back to the warriors' den after a mess like that. "Hey," she meowed, padding right up to him. "I still owe you that hunting trip, if you're up for it." Limitless exhaust saturated Rookpaw's body as the sun arose from the horizon. The other apprentices in then created small shuffling noises as they got up. His instincts told him to sleep, but his fears told him to stand. A scorning from Aspenlight was not what her wanted. Perhaps his mentor would allow him to take a nap in a tree later. Rookpaw's eyes gradually pried open, and his legs straightened. He held his head down as he stood, as it took too much energy to pull it up. He noticed the small pile of thorns to his side. He had spend most of the night trying to tug each little pricky stick from his messy nest of moss. StarClan must've been the one to do it, or it was one of the preachers commanded by StarClan. Rookpaw dragged himself out of the Apprentices' den and looked around, noticing all of his Clanmates eating. He concluded that he must eat as well. So, he padded to the fresh-kill pile and pulled out a scrawny mouse. He wasn't that hungry, so he would easily be able to finish it. He plopped himself nearby, tore off a few pieces of skin, and started to nibble on it. Despite busying himself with eating, sleep still called Rookpaw, and he heeded. His eyes began to close, and his position started to droop. He was almost asleep when his mother, Mapleshine, padded up to him. "Rookpaw," she purred, "I'm going to be joining your training session later today. Maybe I can convince Alderpaw to come, just so she can learn a few battle moves if she ever is forced to fight." Jerking awake, Rookpaw sighed. "Okay." He was hoping that it would only be him and his mentor today, not he and many other cats. Sweet forest, today wasn't going to be a great day. As his mother licked his head and padded away, Rookpaw started to look around camp for his sister. When he saw her, he briefly called her over, not wanting to get up and talk to her. "Hey, Alderpaw, did you hear about any of the preachers putting thorns in my nest?" Card against Humanity

(soooo I know that Briarcrow is my main character but I think Spottedlight is quickly becoming my favorite lol. I love characters like her that are so... morally ambiguous. Doing the wrong thing for the right reasons, and vice versa. I suppose, after all, my favorite saying is that "the road to Hell is paved with good intentions." Well, that plus "I'll burn that bridge when I get to it" which is probably Briarcrow's defining statement.)
Spottedlight let out a purr. "Precisely," she replied, following Morningpaw's gaze as she examined their Clanmates. She indulged in a heartbeat of watching them as well, her heart warmed by the dutifulness with which they went about their tasks. Yes, LightClan may be wrought with sin and unholiness, but many of its warriors were good and righteous and worth saving. Her gaze wandered to the undesirables' den, and suddenly her mood was soured. Yes, some were worth saving. Turning her attention back to the other preachers, Spottedlight spoke again, pushing all thought of the undesirables- and her own insecurities- from her mind.
"Yes... I propose that perhaps every few days, we gather all the kits together and tell them stories of the gods and their accomplishments. The most important thing is to quell any resentment towards StarClan before the others can implant it, and to remind them that StarClan is a good thing. Remind them that what we all do is for them, even if it sometimes seems harsh in the moment." She let out a sigh. "I think some of the warriors could do with a reminder like that as well."
(sorry it's kind of short lol. Also sorry for the delay, I was working on setting up a Clan. Some you all may be interested in it actually, it has a similar [but a bit more overt] dystopian sort of feel to this one.) >> Ooc << Responding to both of them Sorry it's a little short, I couldn't think of much to say. I'm a little confused cause i thought the preachers were suppose to be mean. But Are some retailing? I'm ganna go read the plot again. >> RP << Grayinglight considered Spottedlight's proposal, "That might work." He said it as more of a statement than agreeing with the she cat, his face content. He yawned, He sat with the two she cat's, watching his clanmates. His eyes seem to rest on the undesirables that are at the fresh kill pile, Those bee-brains don't deserve an ounce of that fresh-kill pile. He thought, his mind drifted to thought of the gods, even though the spotted she cat was talking about Starclan, Grayinglight followed a different god. His visions although are very real; But he arrives in the Dark forest.

(Well my interpretation was that they were severely corrupt, but not necessarily mean or evil, which is where I was going with Spottedlight. She actually cares, but she still is confident in her holiness/superiority and will do what she needs to do to control them in whatever way possible, even if it's something horrible, all while believing that she's doing it for their own good. And of course her actual sweetness is an act; really she's just as selfish, self important, and power hungry as the others. Of course, its possible that i was the one who misunderstood the intent.)

(All adult preachers are corrupt, and none of the adults currently receive messages from StarClan, though they're all faking it. Things like whether their intentions are good are bad, the extent to which they use their power over the Clan for their own gain, and whether or not they genuinely think they're helping the Clan are all up to the roleplayer. So yes, Spottedlight's plan does fit what we have plotted for the preachers. I'm not sure we've ever discussed the Dark Forest in relation to the preachers, though; can you elaborate there? I just assumed all preachers were getting radio silence from the dead in general.)

(gonna be brief here)
Aspenlight was sitting in camp, watching his Clanmates. The preachers in the den were clearly dim, focusing on irrelevant stuff. Why were they using their false experiences to help a cat with their own false experiences?
(note: Aspenlight does not know about the lack of communication with StarClan or that Spottedlight is faking it. It's just something he says to validate himself and make himself feel more powerful.)
He noticed Mapleshine, padding away from Rookpaw. "Hello, Mapleshine," he greeted, beckoning her over with his tail.
Mapleshine's tail shot up and she padded over to him. "Hello, Aspenlight," She briefly dipped her head in respect. "Why did you call me?"
Aspenlight paused for a moment, recalling the events of the previous night and organizing his thoughts into words. "You can expect for Sparrowstar to let you have another litter soon." He told her. "I talked to him last night, and he agreed to do so."
"Really?" Mapleshine screeched in happiness.
Aspenlight nodded in response.
"Aaaaaa," She continually mewed, darting towards her mate.

MORNINGPAW LightClan camp | Early morning | With Spottedlight and Grayinglight Morningpaw's spirit grew lighter and warmer the longer she stood talking with the older preachers. See? she thought. StarClan did come to you for a reason, and now you can enact their agenda. There's nothing to be afraid of when you have so many paws willing to help out."Maybe we should gather the kits today," she suggested. Her voice betrayed a hint of uncertainty; she was still daunted by the prospect of sharing ideas with her elders, afraid they would eventually grow tired of her presumptuousness. "Now's as good a time to start as any, especially after..." Her eyes drifted to Foxtail, strutting out of camp with her head held high and her fluffy tail swishing back and forth. No cat wanted to speak of yesterday's events, whether it be out of fear of angering StarClan by talking openly of heretics or fear of angering Foxtail for - well, it was Foxtail. A cat could never be too careful around her. Morningpaw hoped Leafkit would be invited. Now more than ever, Morningpaw was certain she needed a preacher's guidance and as many reminders as she could get that StarClan was willing to forgive, to help her along with her new path. That she didn't bring up; even among preachers, forgiveness was as controversial as punishment. ( Aphelyon ♡ Bun ♡)

Spottedlight frowned, thinking. "I suppose today is as good as ever. And it's early still, so we have time to prepare." She paused, considering how to orchestrate such a meeting. "I think, however, that the entire Clan should know of this. That StarClan has ordained that we have strayed too far from the path as a Clan, and that we will take steps to correct it. I think all cats could do with a definitive reminder. Many cats, I think, have forgotten simply because they're not the one being punished." She half-murmured this part thoughtfully to herself. "Perhaps if they see that we're taking proactive steps with the kits, they'll have an interest in getting involved themselves, and setting an example."
(sorry this one is short, I didn't have a lot to add lmao)

[ wow am i ever h*cking lazy ]
Breezefeather was of the few young warriors who rested well past moonhigh and woke well before sunrise - for sleep was a grueling and tedious task, and minimal enjoyment could be wrenched out of it. Never was there an easy night, where he could simply roll over and close his eyes and drift off instantaneously like some of his more...’laid-back’ denmates. A hushed whisper from the neighbor den, a mosquito buzzing by: the simplest things would disturb his tranquility with ease. Even rain, he found difficult to sleep through. And of course, in his early moons, Foxtail would raise her nose every time he failed to awake before the dawn patrols left. With those two things combined, you were left with a weary warrior.
Though what good would he be if he trotted around whining about this or that petty thing? His duty to his clan and his gods came before his own wellbeing - another thing Foxtail had instilled upon him. Besides, Breezefeather was used to the deprivation of sleep at this point. It hardly affected him. For extra ‘motivation’, he made a point of going out every morning as soon as he woke, to offer gifts for his beloved deities. Walking around searching for the perfect present also allowed for a clear head, due to the lack of company. Something he always accepted with glee.
This specific morning, he chose to trail the shoreline. Perhaps, by the ocean, he would find a particularly beautiful rock or feather, or even a fat crab if he was lucky. Perhaps it was merely imagination, but Breezefeather’s spirits felt higher whilst offering the little crustaceans. Perhaps a god had favoured it in life and were more thankful for the treat in afterlife than they were for say, half-rotten squirrels. He enjoyed pondering such things as he meandered around the sandy shores. Surely since the gods were once cats themselves, they would have their own niche interests and quirks.
When he settled his sight upon the perfect present (a wonderfully colourful shell that was pleasing to look at), it has grown quite late. Another reason Breezefeather came out so early in the mornings, was to come before his mother made her own rounds. As dim golds and blues and purples started painting the horizon, unease stirred within him. Though he snatched up the shell nonetheless and began his march northeastward hastily.
When the gray warrior arrived at the Moontower, his tension eased. There was no sign of Foxtail, as far as he could hear or see. Although he had long forgiven his mother - as StarClan and the gods encourage every cat to do - she was still not the most desirable cat to stick around with, for more than obvious reasons. With a small breath, he placed his shell down on the dirty wood flooring, bent his head over it, and began reciting his daily prayers in silence and assumed solitude.

FOXTAIL The Moontower | Early morning | With Breezefeather That night, Foxtail barely slept. Every time she closed her eyes, she saw Leafkit's body trembling with excitement, the contempt written all over Aspenlight's face, the raw judgment in her Clanmates' watchful stares. Every time she burrowed into her nest, she heard Leafkit's earnest words, Galekit's sneers, Sparrowstar's condemnation. Every time she felt close to achieving rest, she thought of the suffocating weight of StarClan's disapproval, and she longed to through herself to her paws, run to the Moontower, and beg for their forgiveness. Finally, after emerging from yet another fitful sleep, heart racing with anxiety, dizzy from her own swirling, sickening thoughts, she decided to do just that. It was earlier than she usually woke, corners of the sky still untouched with dawn's first colors, but the quiet surrounding the forest and the position of the moon in the sky told her that morning was still near. She set off through the camp's entrance at a brisk pace, hardly stopping to dip her head in acknowledgement to Marigoldsplash. Once her paws hit true forest floor, she broke out into a sprint. Colors blurred together, a mess of green and brown and grayish shadow. As she moved, the sky began to lighten, but it only prompted her to quicken her pace. She dodged rocks and trees on memory alone, kept herself from slipping on damp leaves or tripping over troublesome roots through sheer determination. Only a day ago, she might have believed that all of StarClan ran beside her, protecting her from the pitfalls of forest life, but now, she was certain that she journeyed alone. She emerged at the clearing panting hard, still feeling like a thousand hungry foxes were snapping at her heels. It took her a moment to discern that she wasn't alone at the Moontower, and a moment longer to recognize her company. Her mouth twisted into something wry and cruel. Of course, she thought. Who else would it be?"I heard your sister was in your den last night," she called, taking a single step closer. She lifted her chin. "She takes after you, doesn't she? Though I will give her credit for figuring out where she belonged at such a young age. Here you are, a grown warrior, still lying to yourself, pretending StarClan wants anything to do with your kind at all." (@animefreak)

Daybird nodded, adjusting his direction as well so that he padded alongside Citruspetal. They now walked in silence, but Daybird felt that it wasn't the usual sort of awkward silence that usually falls over patrols when there's nothing to talk about. No, this silence was easy, peaceful... he felt as though he could just walk with Citruspetal, never saying a word, and feel completely at home. The feeling was... unusual, but so very nice. She seems very kind, the ginger tom thought as he cast a glance in her direction. She seemed so... serene, enjoying the cool breeze. I think it would be okay if she were my mate. In fact, I think I might like that. (had you seen this, ♡ Bun ♡ ? If you had responded I didn't see it o-o also if anyone wants to do anything with my other characters, they're all open....)
