Of course xD Hopefully you can find the third book this time... I'm reading a pretty cool book based on Russian mythology. Only problem is, the third book in the trilogy isn't out yet and I'm pretty sure the second's going to end on a cliffhanger :/
Yes, and that they didn't blow up the entire city of London with them. Although now I think about it, there was the Great Fire of London in that time period...
It's by Thomas Levenson if you want to look it up c; I recommend it!

I was pretty pleased. Oooo! Tell me, tell aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaall about it! I'm reading Beowolf right now and maybe it's just because I read this really funny summary first, but it is great. XD Beowolf is so ... 'I don't mean to boast, buuuuuuuuut...' I think that one of those fires was caused by a bakery, though? I think I made reference in the book I'm writing of Arthur almost burning his roof one time. I found it! Now I just gotta find time to read it. I have a really nice job this semester in my opinion.

Nice! Is it worth the wait?
The first one in the trilogy's called The Bear and the Nightingale and it's very good! It's set in medieval Russia - the main character's the only one who can see the traditional spirits, and she has to save her village from a mythical evil. And for a very fairy-tale book, it's really good at incorporating the time period too, so it's right up my street xD
That's awesome! In translation, right, or are you learning Old English? Hmm, I'd say it's more 'I'm a history nerd and I don't care who know it...
Yeah, that's what they think, although iirc there's still some debate. An alchemical accident would be more interesting but much less likely. And oof, yeah, 17th century thatched roofs would catch fire very easily.
Yay, halfway there! Let me know if you're enjoying it c:
That's great - what job is it? I'm going to have to look for a job this year (ugh student loans) and I'm a bit nervous about it :/ And assuming the 27th you go back is this month, I hope you're enjoying being back generally! School is tough but you can do it!

I'm still rereading so we'll have to see. ;P I'm on book 2 right now. Saph continues to expand my reading list from across the world. XD I added it to my library list. Translation, though it's in something like Shakespearean English now. THAT'S right. That's exactly right. It would be more interesting. Actually, in my Will C. Morgen Project, I certainly changed the origin of that fire. You bet I did. I will! It was something like a STEM camp. ^^ Ouch. Student loans. Sorry to hear that. I'll be facing that soon. But jobs aren't always that bad. Have you tried to see if there are any places you enjoy going to that are looking to hire? Nah. That was the 27th of August. I forgot to change tenses.

And if I remember right, they're quite long books as well... I was telling my dad something very similar the other say - that these forums have got me book recommendations/let me inflict my taste in books across the world xD (Although this particular book was written by a USian, so I don't know how that's supposed to work.) When the original's so old, you pretty much have to translate the translation... Are you enjoying it? I don't know much about it, other than he's a hero who has to fight a monster. I bet you did! So should I be worried about rogue paranormals in the uk? It's too tempting of an event to pass up. And the trope of fictional characters causing real life history is very good. That does sound fun! Like as a tutor? Yep, ouch. It's not even repaying the loans I'm worried about yet, just that the maintenance loan doesn't really cover much besides rent. And thanks, that's good advice! I thought it was, just wanted to check. How's that going?

10-ish hours on audio. Which is how I'm 'reading' them, since it's while I'm traveling from school and such.
I think that works fine, since most of the books I read are published by people in your neck of the woods. XD So USian is something I could stand to read more of.
Speaking of reading, or rather writing, thanks. XD I keep second guessing myself every time I type 'quite'. And I think I have noticed how it's used now. It's very interesting. Now if I could just go back to stop thinking about it.
It is ... so ridiculous that it's almost funny. Bits of it are. Like when Beowulf is boasting.
Speaking of old (yes, another 'speaking of') I am dying over the fact that I just don't have enough info on Arthur Dee. I know I picked him out because there wasn't a lot of info on him, but now I'm realizing it's a double-edged sword when it comes to writing historical fantasy. Because I keep having this little voice in my head going 'Ah yes ... you know ... I can already see the comments this is going to get and most of them are going to be about how you're misrepresenting historical figures. Or worse. Misrepresenting a historical figure who's someone's ancestor.' My reassurance is that somehow six zillion authors before me survived, so I dearly hope I do. At least I'm not making John Dee the villain ... again ... Just a background character we hear very little about. XD
Actually, mini me decided Poisoning the Sea took place in a post-apocalyptic Africa. Mini me didn't actually do any research into Africa, so this bit of Africa looks like the UK, so what did mini me know?
WCM Project is an AU off PtS. Or rather, it was the original. WCM Project takes place in ... drat ... I forgot the wording for it. Futuristic ... alternate reality ... which has a word ... I'll look it up real fast. Ah. Here's my quote:
Speculative. WCM Project is a speculative fantasy that takes place in the US, around the California area to start of, but moves around later on to Canada. The tricky part is that the WCM Project has only about 1% to do with PtS. It will be like you are reading a new story (if you wanted to see book 1, by the way, it's in the Beta Reader stage. XD ) So PtS has paranormals. PtS will also become a story later on, though Will's name will be changed probably so there isn't any confusion. It will likely be adapted into a comic ... only not sketched ... with color ... and probably as people ... Paranormals are a species PtS alone has and then WCM Project has arsonist vampires (I'm throwing around the name pyromancers and seeing if it sticks, but so far not really, so I'm trying to think of a better name). You might see similar themes of found families within both stories. :3 That aside, we were talking about fictional characters causing real life history and not me rambling on about my fictional characters and worlds. So ye. The Fire of London was caused by a vampire, then there are some Egyptian events that I'm playing around with possibly having consequences. While not a cause, I think the Plague is mentioned, as well as the American Civil War. For causation, pick a major fire and then I'll probably twist it to be the cause of a character in WCM. The Great London Fire is just a bit more specific because it was the origin story of two of my minor characters.
More like I supervise the kids to make sure they don't blow up a ipad. XD Pity I didn't get the job. Good luck! <3 It's going alright! I'm dealing with math for the most part, which is ... fun? I keep waiting for the shoe to drop and for things to become hard. It'll happen, I'm sure, but for now I'm dealing well enough with what's going on. Reading of Beowulf is halfway done. That hasn't picked up much yet, but we're getting there.

I bet you've had some fun commutes then cx And vice versa for me! I have literally no idea why this is... So in terms of American fantasy, have you read Carry On? Once you notice it, you can't go back xD Sometimes in animal crossing one of the animals says "you did quite well". Which, in the British sense, is basically the animal snarking at you. Haha yes, I can imagine. On a scale of one to Odysseus, how ridiculous is he? Tbh, I think you're fine there. After all, the historical record strongly suggests that Dee senior wasn't an evil immortal magician, and the author of Immortal Nicholas Flamel seems to have survived. But I guess the best you can do is be faithful to what there is on record. True! If the Dee family's still around, they'll probably want to give you an award for that Mini-you certainly had some... interesting ideas about geography. But there's no shortage of seaside towns in Africa, so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ When I read the next updates I'll just have to imagine everything about 10C hotter than I was doing. Who needs simple genre categories? xD Arsonist vampires sound very cool - pyromancer is an excellent word, but I guess it has quite a specific meaning. (These vampires aren't vulnerable to fire, right??) That all sounds really good c: Do you have the burning of the library of Alexandria as one of your Egyptian events? Also, I found this going through my phone and immediately thought of this conversation Ahhh that's a shame! Better luck next time <3 I'm glad the maths hasn't overtaken you yet, hang in there! And yeah, sometimes you have to keep pressing on and hope you get to another exciting bit...

Yep! Currently I'm reading Six of Crows and Hollow City while I'm commuting now. Not yet! It's on my bookshelf. I've tried reading it twice though and for some reason it hasn't clicked even though I know it should be according to all logic. Have you read the second book? Pfft. That's funny. Odysseus. That's what I keep thinking, ha ha. The problem with Arthur is he's there when he's a kid - but just in the records his dad keeps - then he mostly drops off the map during his young adult years and then reappears in his 80s, when we get to when he's in Russia. I'm not taking the same interpretations as making a character evil, but I am taking the interpretation of who he might have a romantic relationship with and I so far have no historical records to back that up. X') (Though I have small inferences which could be interpreted in that way.) Which is a touchier subject, at least right now. Michael Scott has Joan of Arc and Count of St. Germain together though, so what do I know about what people will and will not complain about? I think I'm reading too much into my worries over my attempt at writing fantasy-romance. I am making as much attempt to stick to the records and continuing to attempt to find more sources. I recently have been researching John Dee as well, because he is family and there are also some instances where Arthur crops up as a kid. I also found the book Arthur wrote on Wayback Machine. Pfft. Yeah, I think everyone I've seen colors John Dee the villain. Did you know Shakespeare did a character off him in the Tempest? As - you guessed it - the villain. He's also the villain in a movie ... someone and the Witch's Flower? I can't remember the title right now. Also, he's the villain in an anime. The list goes on past my knowledge. Yes, mini-me did indeed. Pfft. There were some very interesting geography. Maybe if I redesigned it, it would look better for that, heh. I ... need to post the next update. Please poke me. Both for it and the fic. They're ready, I just need to post them. I don't, apparently. And actually, they are not! They are just as vulnerable. It's actually a conditions without many or no benefits. I could! I have a bit of a background story between chapters which explain some background. That might be fun for my next book's chapter preludes. HA! I love it! The shoe still hasn't dropped yet, but people keep saying stats is hard, so it's really worrying me because for now I'm not having trouble. X')

People keep recommending me six of crows but I haven't heard of hollow city. What's it about? Sometimes books just don't click for whatever reason. I remember that it has quite a slow start, particularly if you don;t already know the characters from fangirl, but it does pick up when Baz finally appears. Read any Holly Black? Meanwhile I'm rereading Moonrise and lowkey taking notes, for reasons...
So you have kid Arthur and old man Arthur and nothing inbetween... I mean, some people will always quibble (particularly if you're shipping him with a well-known historical figure and/or another man, which is kind of the vibe I'm getting?) but tbh lots of people will see both those things as selling points. And if you have inferences that's even better! Ooh, what's Arthur's book like? I did not know any of that! Was he (or Arthur) around to complain about the tempest?
*chants* worldbuilding, worldbuilding, worldbuilding! Go post the updates, Mint! I'm in suspense over here xP
Oh dear! Another important question: do they choose what to set fire to, or are they constantly starting fires on accident and having to get out of the way really quickly? Go for it! And it means your characters potentially get to hang out with Caesar and Cleopatra... And the interlude idea sounds really fun cx
Stats is the easiest part of maths for me (it's sort of intuitive? and everything adds up to one) so I wouldn't worry c: On the other hand, if it gets hard you can ask me!

I know! They were doing the same for me, so I finally started reading it. It's ooooookay. I'm just struggling to find it interesting. Kaz is interesting, but I'm just not invested in anything else and not the current romance plots either. :/ Hollow City is book 2 in Miss Peregrine's School for Peculiar Children! Now, the fact I'm on book 2 means I likely like it. It's about children with interesting powers but they're being hunted. Classic plot, but very unusual abilities. I haven't read Fangirl either, but it's on that list of needing to read too. And I've read The Magisterium series and the Spiderwick series. XD Apparently I haven't read anything just by Holly Black. But both of those series were very good. The Magisterium more so, in my humble opinion. I keep trying to read The Coldest Girl in Coldtown with roughly the same difficulty to read it that I've been having with Carry On. Nope! I have a small wiki mention that he had a bit of trouble with the University. Possibly because he never went to school for a little thing like being a doctor. But that's my theory, not a confirmed fact. I actually can't even find where the wiki got that information, but that's the only part I have about his adult years. But I can certainly infer, since he's wild as a boy and wild as an old man. XD And people will quibble no matter what I do. People just quibble for fun. (You're vibe is spot on. Though not with another historical figure.) I've sent the ideas and drafts through several friend groups with positive feedback, so hopefully I'm not wrecking history. XD I have sooooooooome inferences, but it might be from biased reading, heh. I'm working on getting an actual compilation of research and then I might actually have something to work off of and toss at other people for accuracy. I'm going to have to read up on all this stuff first, however. I'm getting there. I have to go back and slog through the part where Arthur was on a ship. Gosh that part was so boring apart from a slight thing with an indentured servant (or maybe it was slave? I can't remember). The article starts with that, but then everything after that is amazing. Because it's more Arthur and we get into the stuff that might as well be a drama. Arthur's book is about alchemy studies. I haven't read it, but I have read about it. I don't think it was, like, a best seller or anything like that. Apparently William Shakespeare wrote is directly after John Dee died. XD Like ... hardly a year after. Arthur Dee was still alive, but I have no clue what he would have thought of it. Or if he cared. I think other family members were alive as well. Arthur had several brothers. Actually, that was rather helpful. I hadn't looked that up yet. Arthur was 30-ish when his father died. I updated The Butterfly Effect. XD They choose - mooooooost of the time? It depends. It functions the same way that vampires hunt for food. Like, if they aren't in that dangerzone they can plan things out. But if they are, then it's just the nearest target. I'm setting one of the vampires up in the Golden Age of Egypt. Have you ever heard of WorldAnvil? It's really helpful and I've been trying to work on Will C. Morgen's world through that (and to be confusing, Poisoning the Sea's world too). Oh thank you you are a life saver. XD If I have any questions you bet I'm coming to you.

Ahh that's a shame! I guess it all depends on if Kaz is worth it. (I've heard his(?) name a lot, I'm guessing he's a fan favourite?) And I remember reading MPSFPC a few years back after you recommended it - kids with powers are always good! 100% agree about the Magesterium though I do need to catch up on the later books... Some of the plot twists are just wow. If you liked Spiderwick, maybe try The Darkest Part of the Forest? I think it's the Holly Black only book that's most similar to those series. (And remember the quote I used to have in my siggie, about monsters? That's where it came from.) I think back in those days, you could become a doctor with pretty much no formal qualifications, but from what you've said it seems very likely that he did get into trouble at uni. (Ooh, nice... An OC or a fandom character?) Any inferences are good inferences! Probably not. Might be a useful source for getting lead poisoned, I guess And hmm, the timing of that suggests that Dee would definitely have objected. Shakespeare is a legend. I saw c; That does sound like a good system. Reminds me of a podcast I listen to. The werewolves can't usually transform except at the full moon, so "when [character] appears in full wolf form, you know he's mad". And I will try my best to life-save you c: Hah, if you're that far back you have a lot to be scared of. May I ask what you think of the part you have read? (I do also post it on Ao3, idk that's easier for you to read/keep track of)

Yeah, a lot of people like Kaz. He's pretty cool. I finished the book and it was okay enough. Apparently it's going to be a TV show? So I need to check out that. How DARE you not be caught up? XD The plot twists are great and they never stop coming. And ooooo! I'll check it out! (Yep! I remember that quote!) See, I'm not sure! Because I can't find the source. But I have been reading about the time period and I did find out that apparently you needed to have formal training! Maybe it was just the area at the time which had that, but the books I'm reading said they had it. Then again, the university might have had beef with Arthur claiming he had university training or who knows what. I'm going to get to that research eventually. First I'm trying to read the actual books first before I start trusting my internet sources. (Huuum. Fandom. But I've gone far enough off canon that if I changed the name no one would ever know. It's like what I did with Marick and Oliva. They're were originally fandom characters but after plot got to them they no longer worked like them.) Lead poisoning seems accurate. Truly, I'm having a lot of fun with the research. I love the irony that I'm putting more research work into this than WCM. Then again, WCM isn't set in the 1500s. Shakespeare is indeed. It's hilarious that he did that, thanks for asking so I could look it up. XD And now you can see that it is completed! Yes indeedy! That's how it works. I think I did well on my stats test! I'm only three chapters behind. I think. 3-4. As for the parts I have read, I am very invested in the characters and if you hurt Holly I will cry. Also, Sol is by far a more interesting villain/antihero in here than the books. Well, maybe not 'more' but I enjoy the shifts and changes and am invested in him too. (Ye, I recently ... er ... 2 days ago? joined. But I actually find it easy either way. I'm on here far more than I am ever on Ao3, however. Whether that makes it easier or harder to read fics is a completely different story.)

*scribbles in notepad* Worth reading for Kaz... That does sound exciting - you should definitely check it out! I know, I know... My tbr list is a mile long, and I have no money and precious little time to do anything about it Some of them are vicious, too. I remember getting to one point and thinking, this is a children's book?Huh, you learn something new every day. And yeah, I can definitely see Arthur claiming he had training. Books are a good idea - I don't know if there are any archival sources you can access, too? Thank you for telling me so I can bask in yet another cool Shakespeare fact Ahh, congrats on the stats test! Well, I have such a good record of being kind to my main characters But I'm glad you like Holly! And thank you! I'm trying very hard with Sol to give him an arc worthy of what I wanted him to have in the books, if that makes sense... (I found you Tbh I find Ao3 easier for reading - mostly because of the layout, and the fact that I read fics for a bunch of fandoms - but here's way better for socialising. So I'm committed to both sites.) Also, being killed by school is such a mood...

It grows daily and there's little I can do about it. XD I found out some new stuff. I finally found some other resources. Including the one where Arthur did get slapped on the wrist by the college. They really didn't like he practicing ... which is hilarious because apparently not long after he either got off or was fined he was recommended by the king as a doctor. CX Also, apparently he had a fencing accident as a child among other unspecified accidents. Also, apparently another unspecified accident happened before he died. Hopefully the one tomorrow works out. Yes. You do have a nice track record, don't you. (I would have gotten the full thing of The Butterfly Effect up, but October has been literally insane.) And it hasn't ended yet. I think I might get breathing room after tomorrow ... maybe.

I just found out two series I really like have sequels ... and my library doesn't have it. ;-; Sapphire ... Sapphire, I have found so much since the last time I talked with you. I went into the research hard. And I am literally dying. This man was a legend. The college did not like him advertising a cure-all. But ... then all the kings started wanting him. And he got some pretty decent power from them. Also ... okay ... you know that guy he accused of murdering? It was his own son-in-law. And I am furious that we don't know how he got off. But you think the fencing injure was fun? I found the record of the accidents. He fell down the stairs at around five, he got accidentally cut by a razor when a friend waved it in his face at around eight, then around twelve he just decided it would be a good idea to pick up a brick, toss it into the air ... and then not move away while it came down on his head. Then a friend stabbed him in the eye with a fencing stick when he went off to school. This man did not have a good childhood. Edit: He was 17 when the fencing thing happened. Same as all my characters! (Well, I mean, most of it was just the equivalent of midterms to be honest.) I am having a really amazing weekend though. It had been so, so much fun.

That's the worst. At that point you just have to move cities until you find a library that does have them. I mean, the man was already a legend but this! Okay, a cure-all makes a lot of sense (and is excellent fantasy-story material, as if you needed any more). Any people who know that you're a fraud will be shouted down by the people who want your cure. His son-in-law? That must've made for some interesting family dinners afterwards... That is incredibly annoying - everything about this case just make you want to know more. And yeah, that's very unlucky indeed. Seems like the man just didn't know how to keep away from obviously dangerous objects. The fencing incident happening at 17 is... better (I was worried that when you said child, you meant he was like 10 xD) but still, wow. Precisely (Still, that's very rude of school to take up your time like that. We don't have those here - at least not for first years...) Yay, I'm glad! Any particular highlights?

Right? Like, seems to be the only option!
(I have so much and yes, this is definitely going to be a thing.) Pfft. Yeah. It's implied it was a cure all type thing. Which is very in-character for Arthur. Oh yes indeed! The daughter was still alive too! I really do wish I knew more. @.@ (Nope. Not ten. Wouldn't have been surprised with his track record though.) Honestly, I'm pleased with what I found, but still nothing much on his early adult years.
(Wanna kidnap me and take me to your country for the remainder of my school term?)
YES! Went to a Harry Potter cafe, a massive bookstore, and officially had my second meet-up with someone from these forums (as in, I've met him twice now)!

Other than writing to the author(s) and begging them for mercy, yep!
(I really want to read your story now!) Could it've been a shovel-talk thing? Like, Arthur promised to rough up the guy if he didn't treat his daughter right? With his track record, I'd be surprised if he wasn't trying to get himself in trouble duelling by age 10. That's the problem with historical research - if someone isn't well-known, a lot of stuff just gets lost. Do you have many sources on John Dee when Arthur was a young adult? Or know of anyone else that Arthur was associated with then?
(I wish! Only problem is, we have end of semester exams coming up in January so you'd have to be gone before those start...)
That does sound really fun! Did you buy anything at the massive bookstore? And that's really cool that you got to meet with someone from here c: Did the meetup go smoothly?

I could beg them, but I think they'll just take that as incentive to write more books. Perhaps I should write to them ...
(Yessssssss. I am glad I can tempt you.) I really need to research Arthur's father more as well as the guy that Arthur willed a lot of his stuff to + spent most of his 40 years onward with. In the case of his father, like William Shakespeare and so forth, his father lived during the time the Queen was getting paranoid about possible assassination attempts. Also, Kelly is a character. Arthur would have had a wild childhood and I only know a fraction of what it would have been like. In the case of the latter guy - who's name is Thomas - apparently no one has ever examined their relationship and that makes me semi-annoyed because it means I'll have to. With my limited accredited ability. But it was rather interesting. They spent most of their later life talking about a lot of the alchemical stuff as well as where John Dee's books had gotten off to. And actually the possible fight with his son-in-law was probably financial. Sadly ... John Dee's diary was rather scarce on mentions of his offspring. There's a total of 1 mention of him as a young adult and that was when Arthur found a missing letter in the nick of time before John sacked someone for fraud or something like that. Arthur has a couple of friends, but his young adult years are just missing.
(Ouch. Well ... kinda have that?)
Yes! A Discworld Book! A special addition! The meetup was really smooth! One of the best weekends of my year!

That's the danger, yes, but you'll just have to risk it... I did manage to get hold of two sequels I've been wanting to read since they came out though, so I'm very happy about that! (If you ever did make this an original book, your marketing strategy should just be a twitter that posts interesting facts about Arthur Dee, and the disclaimer 'read my book to find out the context of all of these') Yeah, Thomas definitely seems worth looking into. It's a real shame if like you said nobody's properly examined their relationship, although if you have some of their letters I guess that gives you a good place to start. Huh, shows how much John Dee cared about his kids. (Speaking of, did Arthur have any siblings that are worth knowing about?) Oh, wow, that's amazing! Which book? I'm glad to hear that

Oh nice! I'm trying to get a hold of a short story collection, since it's from a series I follow, heh. So far, library has it but I keep missing when the e-book comes in. It probably cool be honestly. I just sat up two days in a row with a friend and we worked out so much of one rather hard to read article and what we found was just an endless string of us saying 'WHAT THE HECK!' Possibly I can locate some letters. Don't know yet. I've found a couple articles. But you're in a better position to get them than me. XD Apparently one of them can only be visited and it's country rather than mine, I believe. Which has me distantly screaming. If you listen closely, can you hear me? Also, found a bunch of other articles but they're behind pay walls of 50+ dollars. @.@ Seriously, I just wanna write a book, not a multi-million-dollar movie. Arthur had several siblings, but all of their records were lost completely. Unless you want to know about who they were from about 0-12 years of age. It doesn't help that Arthur very originally named all his children after his father, mother, siblings, and himself (he had two kids named Arthur, one of which died early on/was stillborn). Interesting Times! Thank you!

That sounds like a fun night xD Yup, I can hear your screaming all the way across the Atlantic. Not making any promises but you could pm me the location if you want. And ugh, paywalls are the most frustrating thing. It's like they don't even want people to be interested. I suppose there's no way you can get the articles via your uni? Ha, not unless they got up to anything particularly exciting at that age... I guess they did have a lot of kids and only so many names back then, but still. Ah nice!

Awesome! May I ask what you thought of the twist around there?

XD Finally, I have the time and breathing space to remember to. It was a GREAT night. I love talking to people endlessly about my interests, if you couldn't guess. Speaking of which, how are you? Glad to know, glad to know. And you maaaaaaay have guessed this is why I was screaming in the first place. It's a long shot, but I'll take it. I could also outreach to other forum members, now I think about it. Huuuuum. Hadn't thought of that. o.o And actually one is at a uni of a friend, so I can probably get that one from him. The rest? Eh. I'm going to have to keep a look out. I can't believe I was at said Uni two month ago and forgot to check, however. That hurt. But still!
