Skunktail && Applestar -- SkyClan CampWe have to give these kits back! It was wrong to steal them in the first place, but Applestar's word is law... Skunktail felt herself shrink in her own pelt. Ever since Applestar had even mentioned stealing kits Skunktail had known it was wrong. She was torn between being loyal to her Clan and doing the right thing. The Warrior Code told that the leader's word was law, so if she gave the kits back, would she technically be doing the wrong thing by breaking the code? But the kits belong to Alderberry. Applestar will never give them back, though. Skunktail knew her leader all too well. The large she-cat was stubborn to the core and would never turn back on her actions. These kits were here to stay. And Applestar wasn't having any of the 'return them back to ThunderClan' talk.
The SkyClan leader bristled. Looking twice her size now, Applestar looked absolutely huge. "Leave my camp, now," the molly spat vehemently. "You barge in here like you own the place and disrupt my camp." Her tone was clear - she was not messing around. Applestar was on her last nerve, Skunktail could tell.
...And then, almost out of nowhere, came a little kit bounding over.
Skunktail found herself wanting to shrink inside her own pelt once again. How was this going to play out? The little kit - what was his name again? - bounded forward, calling out for his mother. His true mother. Skunktail could only watch Applestar, hoping the leader would not turn her anger out on the little tom kit.
She didn't. Skunktail could have sighed in relief. Applestar stuck out a paw and drew the kit toward her, sighing softly. "Puddlekit dear, you call for the wrong cat. Am I not your mother?" Her voice had made a drastic change. It was now soft and gentle, motherly even. "Shouldn't you be asleep right now? I knew I shouldn't have left you all alone in the nursery."

Ambersplash, Alderberry & Puddlekit | skyclan camp
Ambersplash didn't flinch at Applestar's orders, her pelt slowly fluffing up in anger. She glanced at her sister, who seemed ready to leap at Applestar, who addressed her kit as if Puddlekit was her own. She could feel the rage radiating off of Alderberry. It almost concerned her; mothers were more protective over their kits than anything Ambersplash could think of. And sometimes, they'd treat their clan as if they were all their kits. It helped the clan stay strong.
"Applestar, I don't think you understand the situation." The shecat dipped her head. She flicked her tail back and forth, getting ready to command her warriors to attack if Applestar still refused to hand them the kits back.
Alderberry seemed to grow even angrier when Applestar called Puddlekit her own kit. "You lame excuse for a leader!" The she-cat spat and snarled. "Stealing my kits, my darling little bundles of joy, and claiming them as your own! What leader does that?!" Her green eyes flashed angrily to Skunktail, the Skyclan deputy. "What about you, Skunktail? You're deputy! Do you fully support Applestar stealing my kits?" The she-cat's fur was fluffed out, causing Juniperfeather to come beside her and help the trembling queen calm down.
Ambersplash flicked her tail and glanced at the Skyclan deputy, a cat she had always found to be quiet beautiful. "Applestar, you are in the wrong for this. Thunderclan will get their kits back. Right now. If you do not hand them over, we have no choice but to attack you all, in your own camp." The brown she-cat mewed, the hostility and snarl in her voice clear as day.
Puddlekit looked between the cats of both clans, his ears flattened to his head as he ducked away from Applestar. Sure, he liked how he was treated here, but he missed his mother. "No! You're not my mama!" He mewed in a high pitched voice. The brown and white tom kit skipped and bounced backwards, looking longingly towards the nursery where Willowkit, Bramblekit and Aspenkit were, before back to Alderberry. "I wanna go home!" He wailed. The kits were old enough to know that they were Thunderclan, and old enough to remember Alderberry was their mother. He turned and scampered back to his siblings in the nursery.

Alderberry had every right to be as furious as she was. Skunktail did not have kits of her own, and probably never would, but if something like this had happened to her kits… The bi-colored she-cat was sure to be just as furious as Alderberry. The SkyClan deputy wanted nothing more than to take the four kits and bring them rightfully to their biological mother, but she couldn’t go against her leader. Not in front of her at least.
The deputy’s thoughts were cut off as Applestar began to speak up once again.
The large leader could be seen flexing her claws in and out as if ready to strike at any given moment. Her readiness to fight would probably be needed with how this interaction was going. ”I understand completely,” the leader spat. ”ThunderClan cats have walked into my territory, into my camp, and are demanding to take my kits away. SkyClan would never show such hostility to ThunderClan, but of course, you cats always have to have your noses stuck in some other Clan’s business.” Applestar huffed, her tail lashing. It was obvious to Skunktail that if the ThunderClan patrol didn’t leave soon the SkyClan leader would attack the patrol herself. Much like Alderberry, she had all the fierceness of a true mother rippling inside her.
Attention was back on her. Skunktail swallowed dryly. She wanted to look at Alderberry and yowl out that, no, she did not support Applestar. These kits belong with Alderberry, but… But she couldn’t go against her leader. Steeling her nerves and steadying her voice, Skunktail only replied with, ”My leader’s word is law, and I would never go against that.” A vague answer. Perhaps vague enough to get one or two of the ThunderClan cats to understand her inner turmoil. I need to get away from Applestar. I need to talk with one of these cats alone… She silently hoped it would be Ambersplash who would notice this. Why Ambersplash, Skunktail had no idea. Surely it was due to the other she-cat being a deputy as well.
Skunktail’s mind was back on what Applestar had to say as Ambersplash threatened battle. ”You are in the wrong for trespassing in my camp. Attacking will only leave you with wounds.” The ThunderClan patrol was large for a patrol, but they would certainly be outnumbered in another Clan’s camp. The option to fight was a bit bird-brained in Skunktail’s opinion.
Her thoughts changed back to the kits when Puddlekit squeaked out about wanting to go back to his mother. His real mother. Skunktail felt her heart hurt at the whole ordeal. She watched as Applestar sighed, something flashing in the leader’s green eyes as the kit ran back to the nursery. ”They’ll soon forget about ThunderClan,” Applestar had said when they had first taken the kits. ”They’ll truly be mine before long.” |
