hey guys, sorry for the late reply! ;; i was knocked out completely after staying up so late. and in all honesty i was thinking about this post for a long time, too, but i’m really sorry if this still sounds awkward; i’ve never really been stuck in a situation like this before so i’m not a 100% certain of what to say ahaha.. i was about to say… sky, if it’s okay with everyone and you’d like to retake the position back as the shaman, i’d be willing to pull back. i don’t want to be that person who stops someone from enjoying a really cool rp, and you did claim the position first. i’m just not really all that certain of what to say at the moment except that i’m really sorry DD: … i’m going to go ahead and give a reply to torrian cause i don’t want to hold things up and i’ve gotta go out for a bit but ;; please let me know if there are any changes and again i’m really sorry for any inconvenience ;; )

Julian Noel Andreasen ♤ ♤ ♤
"Simply introductions, if you'd like to tag along with those. Torrian—”
The man, Torrian, said with a wave to himself, while seemingly locked in thought. Then he was speaking about someone who went by the name Kaede who would use her invisibility to trip an individual who went by the name of Oscar. Kaede seemed easy enough to pinpoint — after all, she was the only female here for the time being, and to this, Julian felt the quirk of his eyebrow linger. Poor girl, was all he could think with the smallest hint of amusement flickering across his eyes. He’d imagine that a few of them had tried to flirt with her already, which, he had a sneaking suspicion that the attractive lad with light brown hair and blue eyes had. He seemed one of the most assured of the bunch, and Julian thought that he could feel an air of confidence surrounding him. Was he this Oscar? There wasn’t any reason for someone to imply that an individual would trip someone after becoming invisible, after all, unless they’d perhaps said something before that would make them deserving of it.
Briefly, he let his hazel eyes wander over to the other faces there. There was a lad with olive skin who seemed to possess an angular body, and an aspect that caught Julian’s attention for certain were his deep-set light brown eyes. Underneath the light, he thought he caught a gleam of golden from them. Julian could already tell that he wouldn’t have fun craning his neck to look up at the other individual there, who seemed tall and lean with a strongly cut jawline and icy blue eyes. He’d never seen the arctic water in person, but if he were to, he’d imagine that it’d be a vast canvas with the color of his eyes. Then of course, there was Kaede whose short hair was pale, like she’d been standing underneath snow for too long, with the roots dyed blue. He didn’t think he was imagining the composure that seemed to envelope her. Then there was Torrian, of course, who’d been the first to state his name (at least in Julian’s perspective) whose frame was study and face was lit with a boyish smile. It was peculiar seeing someone so restrained with chains smile so sweetly. Saints, Julian was certain that, had all of them been free, they could have worked as a model. They were all quite the sudden eye-candy, and there was no denying that.
In any case, he thought, blinking a little to let that small thought disappear. Indeed, it was certain that they had been collected to this one area for a purpose. For what, none of them seemed to know — he could only assume that they were most likely in a similar position as himself, unknowing of the reason for why they’d been herded here. They were most likely being watched right now, too. Every movement, every word they spoke, all attentively recorded and watched. Julian almost softly snorted in laughter at the thought. Wasn’t it so interesting that they, so callously, were so intent on concealing themselves behind a wall or a veil of information in order to eye other human beings like a separate unknown species that had just been discovered and had been deemed deadly? No? Maybe that was just him.
Jake O’Malley? The name lingered at the back of his mind as he made his way over to the bunch, taking a seat next to the nearest individual — the lad with olive skin and deep-set brown eyes. “It’s not a bad feeling at all,” he agreed with Torrian at his words with the same subtle crooked smile, though his hazel gaze remained impassive, guarded. No matter how much he tried to deny it, though, it was nice being around people again. He rubbed his hand over his face, feeling the dreariness in his muscles slowly, but surely, fade little by little. “Julian.” Then, he rested his chin on his propped up hand with the slight curl of his lips lingering, his dark locks already brushing against his observant gaze. “Pleasure meeting all of you.”

Andi Benson was never a heavy sleeper. It was dangerous. Some called her paranoid since she hadn't truly been in danger most of her life, but she didn't want to be caught asleep if someone had broken in with the intention of hurting her. Since she had come here, it had just been worse. She slept only a few hours at most, and they were very light. She'd sometimes spring awake at just the sound of a guard walking down the hall. It was how she had adapted to living here. If she didn't give them a chance to hurt her, she wouldn't be hurt. Of course, she had gone through a lot of pain. They had almost broken her, both physically and mentally, but they had never taken all the fight out of the girl. In fact, she was growing stronger and stronger each day. It was her refusal to give in that kept her alive.
This is why it had been so weird that Andi had slept in. Even with the noise around her cell, she had stayed asleep. When she woke up, still groggy, she rubbed her eyes and looked around. Had they given her some kind of sleep in pills? She didn't know the answer, but Andi wouldn't put anything past them. She didn't trust the guards in the least. Someday she would get herself out of here. She had made that promise every morning as long as she had been there. She actually had attempted escapes when she was first tested on. They had never gotten close to working. Her escape attempts weakened and occurred less and less. She hadn't attempted an escape for a long time, but she still promised herself that she would do it someday. After all, even Andi knew you had to have some hope if you wanted to survive. She knew she'd die someday, but she had no plans to let it be at the hands of these monsters.
A thud outside of her cell caught Andi's attention, waking her up for good.
"Idiot," muttered a voice. Andi knew it was a guard. She had lost track of who was who and truly didn't care about names anymore. All she knew is that when she escaped, she wanted to give that red headed guard a little 'thank you'. He had been the most cruel of the guards she had interacted with and she couldn't wait to make him regret how he treated her.
"What? You think you can sneak up on these guys by being quiet? I'm sure they can smell your breath from a mile away. Do you even brush your teeth?" the other guard asked. The door opened, and Andi let her gaze settle evenly on the large guards. They were both much bigger and heavier than her. That hadn't been an issue before - Andi had taken down many boys bigger than her on the playground - and it had become even less of an issue when she came here. After all, there was a reason she was the 'super soldier'.
"By the way, he's right. You should brush your teeth. Maybe hit the gym a bit," she sniffed the air, as if doing a detailed inspection of his health. "And definitely cut back on the garlic. It's not doing you any favors. You know, I'm not surprised your wife left you," she said. The guard flashed a look of surprise, only for a second, before he grabbed Andi by the arm. She allowed him to cuff her hands and legs. She shuffled along between the guards, taking small steps because of the shackles around her legs.
As the odd parade made their way slowly past the other cells, Andi tugged lightly at her restraints. "Awww, you used the strong ones. You're learning quickly," she said, grinning at one of the guards. She thought he was newer since she hadn't seen him around much. After a few escape attempts, they had provided her with restraints stronger than most. She had been able to break normal cuffs with ease. These new ones were unbreakable, at least by her strength, and all guards were required to use them when transporting her. A few weeks ago, this same guard had used the normal ones with her and she had broken out. She caused a little trouble before being sedated and returned back to her cell. "I'm surprised they didn't fire you for that little incident," she said. The guard's face turned red, but he stared straight ahead instead of responding to her.
The walk was agonizing. Nobody had said a word after Andi's little comment, and they had moved slowly. It was stupid, but they saw it as a necessary precaution. Truthfully, Andi didn't blame them. She knew they'd be facing all kinds of punishments if she got loose again. She was a bit of a tornado, causing messes wherever she went. That, of course, was done on purpose. They made her life horrible, she'd do everything in her power to make their lives suck even worse.
When Andi was finally released into a room, she blinked, a scowl covering her features. Ah, it reminded her of high school. That hadn't been a good time in her life. Andi was outcasted by classmates she had once called friends. She hadn't found a boy that was interested dealing with her temper or fiery spirit. She had managed to get those a little under control during high school, but the memories of Washington Prep caused her to clench her fists. She took a few deep breaths, pushing the memories out of her mind. She scanned the other faces, no change in the scowl on her face, and took a seat. She didn't say a word, preferring to have the others speak to her first. In fact, she generally preferred to ignore the others and act as if they weren't there. Then when they interacted with her, she would interact them. Andi wasn't here to make friends. She never has been around to make friends, but the past 10 or 11 of years of being lonely was beginning to take its toll on her. Not that Andi would let any of the others know that. (Does this look good? Anything I need to change? I read through everything but wanted to make sure I didn't miss any important details and say something totally wrong in my starter?)

"Kaede Osborne" - - - Jasmine She grew up learning two different languages: english, and what they called code-speak. It wasn’t quite a language, per se, as it didn’t have words. Everything was said in signals. She now knew it was based on ASL, american sign language, but as she grew up, the language grew too. If they didn’t know a sign, they would make it up. Shorthand quickly became popular, and the kids made their own variations on the code-speak to sign in secret from even the parents.
The adults created the code-speak and spent hours laboriously learning and practicing it.
To the kids, it was a game.
It wasn't a task or a lesson, but a fun activity that provided a break from their sessions of homeschool. They picked it up quickly and within the year they communicated almost exclusively in the made-up language of signs and symbols. Jasmine remembered laying in bed, signing to the air, until she fell asleep.
They could stay up all night silently telling stories, limited only by their imaginations and creative signs for words they never used: dragons, unicorns, ghosts. They wrote notes in odd symbols, loosely based on what the signs would look like on paper. It was more difficult, but as kids what couldn’t be read could be inferred. They even could sign in the darkness, tracing the signs against the others’ palms.
Jasmine signed the letters and the words to the bottom of the table in this way as the other mutants spoke. It kept her hands and mind busy, and helped reinforce the information she learned. She nodded and turned when appropriate, but otherwise kept quiet. Her curiosity was stronger than the need to share, and she was eager to learn more about these mutants, each so different than the people she normally saw.
Another man came in the room. He looked so alike to Dio back home that she startled and had to blink to see the differences: he was a bit shorter, his face paler, his expression more open. He introduced himself as Julian as he joined the table. Oscar made a comment about her invisibility and she rolled her eyes. "Anything I touch goes too." If he weren't across the table, she would have pulled his wing.
The door opened again, this time to a girl. And just when she thought all those scientists were just being sexist in giving only the guys powers. She smiled, but that quickly died from the girl's expression as she scanned the group at the table. Jasmine watched in silence as she pointedly sat on the edge of the group. She and Oscar on the other side created a center of table gravity, with each newcomer filling in around. That arrangement meant the new girl was on the west --if Jasmine was north and Oscar south-- and hardly accessible from the people that crowded in between the two. She had hoped for an ally, but after the once glance the other girl didn't meet her eye.
She continued to sign information to the bottom of the table, not that it wanted to know about the people sitting on it. But it was a familiar thing in this increasingly unfamiliar situation, and while she loved hearing more about each of the mutants, she wore that familiar language like a comfortable jacket as she listened.

Oscar Liss ❝ My name is [Oscar Liss]. I am an Aquarius. I enjoy sunsets, long walks on the beach, and frisky women. And I did not kill anyone. ❞ "Well, Torrian, you can teleport into my cell any time you like," Oscar added in conclusion, winking. It was quite overwhelming, the number of people all grouped together. Not only were there now too many to flirt with, but he'd never been around more than one or two semi-talkative guards at once for the past, what, couple of years? Seemed like a decade, but he knew he couldn't be that old. Time just passed very slowly when you spent it alone.
Julian. Another addition to the group. Oscar noted his shortness. Then again, he loved having a partner that was shorter than him. Or taller. Really most people were attractive to him, especially this lot.
Torrian was not wrong about this being a good situation. Oscar, in fact, felt more comfortable than he had in years, surrounded by people, despite how overwhelmed he was by the new faces. His eyes danced back and forth between the new and older faces. He really did hope this was not like the candy he'd been tossed this morning-- a pity party, a one-time thing. He also hoped they weren't being gathered together for something awful. "Hello everyone! We've decided to kill you lot and start over!"
And yet another mutant walked in. "We were just doing introductions," Oscar informed her with his deceptively sweet voice that was always saved for newcomers. He leaned towards her, his elbow quivering slightly from the weight of his chin until he relaxed it completely and just starting stretching his arms over the table (like a cat.) Fortunately, there was no food on the table yet. "My name's Oscar. May I have your name, or should I call you sweetheart?" he asked, giving her a charming little smile.

Andi didn't talk first. She felt as though she had the upper hand when people came to her. She felt strong. She liked that feeling. Plus, it gave her a little time to size up the others. She didn't want to walk blindly into an alliance just because the others were freaks like her. That's what she was. She was a freak. She was unnatural. She was caged like an animal. In another world, these 'powers' would be glorious. In here, she wished for nothing more than to be normal.
Andi's eyes lingered on the other girl. She mentally marked her down as a possible ally. As the only girls, it would be natural for them to at least try to be partners. A few seconds after she sat down, the scowl was replaced by a look of bored disinterest. She had played this game plenty of times. She didn't want to be unapproachable, but she didn't want to be friendly. She wanted to be open to possible alliances, but she didn't want to look desperate. She knew she was an asset. She was strong. She was fast. She knew how to fight. She was smart. She may not have been popular, but she knew how to play the social game. She was doing it right now with the other mutants.
When the boy spoke, her blue gaze traveled to his face. He wasn't bad looking, but he she had a feeling he had tried to flirt with most of the people he came in contact with. She stared him down for a fraction of a second before she spoke to him in a sickeningly sweet voice. She didn't talk like this often, but it seemed like it was what he would respond to the best. "My name's Andi," she began. Hey, she didn't trust these people yet but she didn't see the point in lying about something as simple as her name. She truly wanted to build trust, and if she lied about something as simple as her name, what reason would they have to trust her about more important things?
"Where are my manners?" She asked, her voice still the sickeningly sweet tone that made her want to throw up. "Of course you can call me sweetheart. It'll just be the last thing you say," Andi said, giving him a smile to match her tone.
She had already used a little boredom and intimidation in this little introduction of hers. Now to try and make friends. Not besties, you see. Just some basic friendships so she can see who she wants to stick with. She mentally ran through her options. She could play the part of a scared little girl. It matched her appearance. However, she could also stay serious and just apologize for her rude comment to Oscar. She could see either option working out. She looked back at Oscar, her voice back to its normal tone.
"I'm sorry for snapping at you. I'm not good with people," she said. It was all going right, according to the step by step guide she had thought of for making alliances. Andi never really got this information from anyone or anything reliable, so she had no idea of it'd actually work, but hey, anything's worth trying at this point. What does she have to lose? With her words, Andi forced a smile and tried to look as innocent as possible. And she was innocent. She didn't mean these people any harm unless they harmed her. Maybe getting on Oscar's good side would be beneficial. She was starting to actually regret her comment towards him. Oh well, it was one comment. Not even as bad as her comment towards the guard. It wasn't irreparable damage.
"But yeah, I'm Andi. It's nice to meet you, Oscar. And the rest of you," she said. She was actually terrified to be pretty much defenseless in a large group of strangers. That's why it helped to go step by step.
