Iris nodded, but she still felt bad.
Coraline blubbered inchorhernt wIris to him and held out pudgy hands to him, giggling at whatever it was she thought she said.
Vivian sat back, a little awkward.

Shard reached down to pick her up and set her in his lap. He smiled at the little kid, wincing though as he moved.
Reed glanced over at her. "You look like your having fun." He said.

Iris smiled, watching Shard and Coraline.
Coraline giggled and put her hands on his scruffy beard.
Vivian shrugged, "I'm not one for fun." She said.

Shard laughed when he touched his scruffy beard. "Do you like the beard?" He asked Coraline, smiling at her.
"Come on." Reed pushed her shoulder softly. "Perk up. I'm goin to make you have fun."

Iris kept quiet, this was the kind of father Coraline needed. Not someone like Ryder. Her smile faded as she watched them, what will Ryder do to her?
Vivian gave him a small awkward smile and nodded, "You said you used to swim?" She asked.

Shard looked over at Iris. She wondered what she was thinking about. He sighed and looked back at Coraline.
"Yea I used too." Reed nodded his head. "I was pretty good before I quit." He sighed.

"She likes you." Iris said, giving a small smile. She liked Shard, he was different than Ryder. She rubbed her arm, wincing slightly.
"Why'd you quit?" Vivian asked.

"I'm glad." Shard looked at Coraline. "I like her too. She seemed like a good kid." He looked over at Iris. "If only your mom liked me as much." He said with a teasing tone as he looked at the kid.
"The drinking and smoking." Reed glanced at her. "Hard to swim when your addicted." He shook his head.

Shard let out a laugh, wincing as he did. "I guess I'll have to try a little harder." He said with a smile.
"No." Reed looked at her for a moment. "I've never tried." He drove along.

Coraline giggled again and pulled at the little hairs on his beard.
"Never hurts to try." Vivian said, looking out the window. "I used to be part of the gymnastics team in high school."

"I suppose not." Reed shrugged. He then raised his eyebrow. "Gymnastics? I didn't expect that."

Iris looked at him, smiling softly. She wanted to trust him, she did. But it would be a while before she could completely trust someone again.
Vivian gave a half shrug, "I had to quit a few years after, I couldn't afford the costumes or anything else." She said.

Shard sat down at a table with his food. He was in some obvious pain.
"Have you two always been at odds?" Reed asked her. He wondered. He was frustrated with her, always being a jerk to him. He was tired of it, going to find a way to bring her down.
