Skylar Brennan, a pureblood, felt as if her sorting was taking forever. The first year sat on the stool, anxious, with the Sorting Hat on her head. She was too short for her legs to touch the ground, so she let them swing there, shooting an anxious glance at her older sister Willow, who was a sixth year and already sitting at the Gryffindor table. It had already been several minutes, she was sure.
"You have a good head," the Hat told her. "And I can tell that you're a brave one. You have a kind heart, too. But you're also rather cunnning... I can't seem to figure out what to do with you."
Skylar swallowed, feeling sweat on her forehead. "Not Slytherin," she mumbled, pleading. Both her parents were Slytherins, as well as her grandparents, and her great-grandparents. They weren't very good people and she'd give anything to not be in Slytherin House.
"Not Slytherin, eh? Are you sure?" The sorting hat paused. "Okay, then, I guess it'll have to be GRYFFINDOR!"
With a smile, and a sigh of relief, Skylar took off the hat, hurrying over to sit with the other first years at the Gryffindor table.

"If you ever need anything please feel free to talk to me" Octavian said "I'm just getting used to this place too, so we're in this together" He shot her a hopeful smile. Charlotte got up to go and find her brother who she heard was sorted into Gryffindor. (I wanna make one too, lol) --- Dillon sat at the edge of the Gryffindor table talking to some fourth years. They said the school was really fun, but he didn't buy it. He wore plain black work robes. Dillon had choppily cut brown hair that was shaved at the sides and the back, and then it was pushed back. He didn't really want to become a full fledged wizard, but decided he wanted to work. Charlotte walked over and ruffled his hair "How's it going little bro?" "Okay" "Aw come on, perk up. Show that Gryffindor bravery!" He smiled "Okay, but only if you're touring me" She laughed at that comment "Of course, Gryffindor doesn't have enough spare Prefects anyway. They've been having a bad couple of years, but with you here that'll turn around." She got up and walked over to some of the Gryffindor sixth years which she was going to be in the same classes as this year. Charlotte always got whispers and stares at the beginning of every year. Dillon felt a little better after that

Willow looked up from her group of friends as she saw Charlotte approach, and she offered the younger girl a big smile. "Hey, Charlotte," she greeted warmly, scooting over to make a spot for her at the table. Her very light blond hair was half up in a ponytail, the other half hanging down to about her shoulder length. She didn't really look much like her sister, who had red hair, except that the two both had very pretty blue-green eyes. "How was your summer?"

Ray sat at the Gryffindor table, tapping his fingers on the table. He'd been one of the first in the group of first years to be sorted and this had been taking forever. Plus, he didn't recognize anyone since his second-year brother was over at the Slytherin table. He watched as Skylar sat across from him in the group of first years who'd gathered and spoke up. "Glad either of us didn't end up in Slytherin?" He asked wryly. He was also a pureblood, but almost all his father's side was from Slytherin and most of his Mother's side was from Ravenclaw. It was a wonder the two ended up together, but he was glad he hadn't gotten either. His dad would be angry that he wasn't put in Slytherin, he was sure, and his mother would be disappointed he wasn't a Ravenclaw. There was no pleasing his parents, he'd been really disappointing them all his life. He wasn't especially smart and wasn't overly kind. He bragged to his close family when he thought he accomplished something worth bragging about and didn't carry any of his mother's quirks. He didn't keep to many secrets from his parents and was never especially tight with anyone. Not even close to a 'thick as thieves' type thing his father had with his old school buddies. He got into fights with his brother often and, being the younger child, was normally the one in trouble for it despite them all being because of something his brother did. "I'm Ray, by the way." He added quickly.

Skylar was honestly surprised when Ray spoke to her, though she would never have shown it. She looked up at him with a slightly crooked smirk, with a little bit of a twinkle in her eyes. "Yeah," She agreed, brushing her bright red hair out of her eyes. "I'm surprised, honestly. All of my family have been Slytherins, except for my big sister, who's also a Gryffindor. I thought I would be a snake for sure. But I'm glad that I'm not." She almost shuddered at the thought of being a Slytherin. She adored her older sister and wanted to be just like her when she grew up. "I'm Skylar. It's nice to meet you," she added, smiling.

"Pretty good, but getting back to school was better, remember Octavian? Well he's back. How was your summer" She asked her deep brown eyes reflecting torch light. Charlotte had gone to this school and immediately showed immense talent, and want to learn. She had taken an entire year of schooling every summer, and now was learning with the sixth years, despite being a third year. Because they didn't want her to be bullied by Ravenclaws she was put with Gryffindors and Slytherins. This year she was taking the normal classes, and two very early in the morning with a few other fifth and sixth years. Charlotte hated to talk about her brains though, but she would in order to prove that Hufflepuffs weren't dumb. --- Dillon looked over to the other first years that sat near him and decided that they were interesting. He decided to say something "Hi, i'm Dillon" He told them "I'm supposed to be a Hufflepuff" He laughed at this remark.

Willow smiled, listening to the other girl talk. "Octavian's back from Intershire, hmm?" she looked almost amused, wondering how he had liked it. "My summer was pretty good, actually. I spent the last few weeks in Diagon Alley. Had to get my little sis ready for her first year." She nodded toward her little sister, pleased to see that she seemed to be making some friends already. ----
Skylar glanced over at Dillon, offering him a bit of a smile. "The hat wanted to put me in Hufflepuff, too," She told him. "It also wanted to put me in Ravenclaw, and in Slytherin too. I don't think it knows how to make up its mind." She laughed a little, reaching up to play with her ponytail a bit nervously.

"How exciting!" Charlotte gave a little laugh "Did you get Prefect this year, and if so do you want to give the Gryffindor first years the tour? Dillon really wants me to do it" She sighed "Siblings, am I right?" She smiled to herself, thinking about all the tantrums Dillon has thrown. Charlotte hoped that Willow was taking extra classes as well, because Octavian had good marks, but wasn't ahead, or at least not as far as she was. ---- Dillon was about to say something but was interrupted by food appearing onto the table, and realizing how hungry he was. The headmaster stood to speak. (Can i rp the headmaster?) Dillon shot her a smile of understanding, and then listened to the man speak

Gracie Aldaine, a 5th year Slytherin walked confidently through the Great Hall with a new shiny "P" attached to her robe. Her platinum curls bounced around her freckled face and her stormy grey eyes cut through everyone like a hawk's. She was short but gave out a vibe of authority. She smiled at her friends over at the Slytherin table and gave them a wink, before swooping down and sitting at the Hufflepuff's table. "Octavian, Charlotte, congratulations on the prefect title," she chimed sweetly with a gleam in her eyes. She quickly studied the other Gryffindors. "Didn't anyone teach you it's rude to stare?" (Amaryllis went to sleep, we're irl friends) Professor Bellathar stood and gave a speech "Today we have welcomed many amazing new students into our ranks, and welcomed back many more." He licked his lips "We have also welcomed many students back. so we have one thing to do in order to celebrate, and that thing is eat!" He sat back down and took a piece of bread and buttered it.

(btw Octavian and Charlotte are third years, and hufflepuffs. Octavian came from a different school in ireland, and Charlotte is far ahead of the curriculum, she's learning with the sixth years, but doesn't like to brag about it.) Charlotte turned to Gracie and was excited to see her, because Charlotte liked her "Hi Gracie!" She gave a huge heartwarming smile "And thank you, I worked really hard for it. Willow and i were just talking about our summers, how was yours?" (Ugh ruby's offline)

[[ Ooh so sorry! That changes some things ]] Gracie plucked out some bread from the basket sitting in front of her. She smiled kindly. "I'm proud of you," she nodded seriously. "You earned it. My summer? What a bore. Visited my family in the states again." She took a large bite and chewed it thoughtfully. "Took a tour of the school there, what a drab. Hope this year is extra exciting."

"Thank you so much, and i'm sorry about your summer" She sighed "Are you taking the early morning classes? There's a very exciting course that's taking place with the Groundskeeper. I heard that every friday we go into the forbidden forest" Her eyes were dazzled as she thought of the forbidden forest. Octavian turned to Gracie "I wish i could go, but the earliest you can go is if you're a fourth year, unless you're Charlotte." He took some pork and some mashed potatoes. Charlotte took some steak, and potatoes too.

Gracie was already filling her plate with everything. She eyed her group of friends which happened to be sending spitballs in the particular direction of the Gryffindors. "What is this, the 90's?" she grumbled under her breath. "I hope you don't mind I'm settling in here, I don't find any joy in partaking is such unhygienic activities." Her eyes brightened at the mention of the early morning classes. "Yes, I've signed up and can't wait! I'm not a morning person without my three cups of coffee though..."
"You're not much of a person without your coffee," a deep voice behind her chuckled. A tall and visibly lean boy stood behind her, his eyes a clear blue and his hair a similar blonde. It seemed messy - but it actually took him a long while to get it that way. "I'm Jason. This squirt's brothers." He tussled her hair.
"You're a 4th year - you're younger than me!" Gracie wacked his hands away and scowled up at him. He grinned at her. "I'm also the guy good. She's a Slytherin. I'm a Gryffindor. Nice to meet you." He stook out his right hand, his left casually taking Gracie's bread.

Charlotte took Jason's hand and shook it. "Nice to meet you, I'm Charlotte." She decided she liked this boy. She then turned to Gracie "Gracie, do you want me to talk to the Gryffindors? I don't know why kids are so rude. Octavian chuckled at this "Have you met any Gryffindors?" He joked "They're to stubborn to tell off." The two laughed hard at this, probably more than they shoud have.

"The Gryffindors haven't done anything bad," Jason said as he sat down next to Octavian, giving him a friendly pat on the back. "It's the Slytherins who like provoking them." He sent a knowing gaze at Gracie. She rolled her eyes.
"Whatever. I'd tell them to stop but then they'd turn on me." The blonde took a sip of her pumpkin juice and glared at her friends which were jokingly making kissy faces at her. "Plus, as a fellow prefect, I can take care of this myself." She took out her wand from her sleeve ("Wait," Jason mumbled, "how do you keep it there?") and mumbled a few words. The spitballs turned back around in mid air and were sent flying over back to the Slytherins.
Jason laughed. "Hey," he turned to the younger Hufflepuffs, "since you're prefects and Gracie already said no, do you mind telling me the password to the good bathroom?" He tried to make his best puppy eyes and most charming smile.

Octavian wouldn't buy into his tricks, but Charlotte cracked quick "It's 'Drunken Tadpole'" She blurted out, annoying Octavian. -- "How are is the good bathroom supposed to stay good if he has the password? He could tell anyone!" Octavian and Charlotte pretend argued for a while. (I gotta go, i have to sleep.)

[[Ah, alright. Goodnight!]]
"Thanks!" Jason exclaimed with a large grin and a wink at Charlotte. "Don't worry, I won't tell anyone. That would just ruin the point of having a nice bathroom."
"Yeah, he definitely won't," Gracie glared at him. "I'll make sure of it."
