Myth of the Dragon ChildrenLong ago, people and dragons coexisted. The dragons didn’t particularly like the humans and the humans didn’t favor the dragons. Defying expectations, a woman grew fond of a dragon and had three children. Two sons and a daughter. The woman was shunned by the people of both kingdoms and, to redeem herself, she killed her lover and was welcomed back by the residents of the land. Her children, Dragonkin, as the three were known, grew and fell in love, their offspring, like themselveses, had magical powers that were vast beyond even Dragon magic. The Dragons grew jealous of the human’s knew found power, but the Dragonkin managed to keep peace in the land for some time. -But the Dragons’ jealousy grew over time, and the Dragonkin became more powerful. The Dragons declared war, and to make peace the humans exiled the Dragonkin to the north. The Dragonkin were outraged with the banishment, but knew this was the only way to keep peace in the lands. Not wanting to be far from their homeland, they fled into the depths of the forest rather than going North. The humans, not knowing of the Dragonkin’s new residence of the forestt, continued with their lives, slowly forgetting about the Dragonkin over time and them just becoming a legend. The people dared not go into the the forest of the mountain in the center of the vast woodland as to not anger the Dragons and create a new war. While the people went on with their lives, the Dragonkin created their own string of villages in the forest, all connected by the High Dragonkin, otherwise known as, the Original Three, the only ones to have gained the Dragons’ vast lifespan to live for thousands of years.~Made by Amaryllis and A Yogurt Cup$Currency$1 Gold Piece: 20 USD $ 1 Silver Piece: 10 USD $ 1 Copper Piece: 1 USD $ Reference:
A room at an inn would probably be 100 USD $ per night, or 5 gold pieces. A shield would be about 120 USD $ so six gold pieces. A simple meal (like bread and stew) would be about 12 USD $ or 1 silver piece and 2 copper pieces. General NotesDragonkin (or, as known by humans, Dragon Children/Children of the Beasts) have abilities based off their traits. Each of the Dragonkin have magic. From least rare to most rare, Dragonkin have different targets as mentioned a line up. Protruding traits, most common, horns, spikes, tails, wings, etc. and these Dragonkin are stronger physically. Non-protruding traits, uncommon, scales, colored eyes, colored hair (red, raven, blue, etc.), unusual height; these Dragonkin are more intellectual. Then, there are Dragonkin who look exactly like a normal human, they're very rare and have the strongest magic. -Humans believe Dragonkin to be things of myth and legend. They live in two kingdoms separated by the vast forest that surrounds a mountain which the dragon live on. Humans don't normally go into the forest in fear of disturbing the dragons.-Humans don't have natural magic, only Dragonkin do and Dragons can breath fire and fly and live practically forever. Humans have magic items that aren't very rare nor very common, but they aren't very powerful.-The human kingdoms are monarchies and are set in the medieval/victorian era. Dragonkin are in multiple small villages in the forest that don't commonly interact with each other, but are united under the High Dragonkin.-There's a war between the two Human Kingdoms.-With the humans are Elves and Dwarves (both which have no magic and are part of the kingdoms and classified under general human)----------Jump In (200 years after the myth)----Map

"Amaria! Where are you going?!" It was an older woman with horns which protruded from her head and her eyes were a misty blue, lost of sight but with keen hearing. She was Amaria's keeper, as the young lady called it, though the woman was more commonly known as her foster mother. Amaria had short hair that was unevenly cut and ended at the bottom of her chin with two locks in the front that extended to the base of her neck. She wore a simple white dress that went down a few inches above her knees and she wore cotton shorts underneath. There were slits in the back of her dress for her black wings that were now unfurled and spread out to their full wingspan to catch enough air to get her started flying. "Just to the lake!" She called back. Of course, Heather, the older woman, would assume it was the lake not far from their village, but Amaria was referring to the one nearer to the Human's path. She'd found it just a week ago, but hadn't gotten the chance to check it out. She was dying to see a really human, she'd heard they were odd and bore no signs of a dragon and had no magical power. Her eyes were a bright gold and, despite her wings being more noticeable, she was smarter than she was strong. Well, she was strong willed, risky, curious and daring, all her strengths were about even. Magic and intellect about the same, a little lacking on the strength, but not completely useless with it, she was decent in strength. Part of her magic was enhanced speed and enhanced vision. She could make it to this lake in the same time it would take an average winged Dragonkin to fly normally to the lake near their village.

"I gotta go, i have to see my cousin!" Thalia exclaimed to her boss. She bore an oak shield painted with a dragon's hand holding a rose, representing the combination of human's compassion, and a dragon's strength. She also had a spear made from a stone and strong wood coated with lacquer strapped to her back . Thalia had no signs of wings but had spikes all the way down her back leading leading to her tail. She had purple eyes and black hair tousled, and cut at her shoulders. Thalia wore minimal armor to allow easy mobility, and red to represent her village when trading with other Dragonkin villages. She ran to where she knew her cousin would be coming and called her name "Amaria!" Thalia was excited to go to the lake. Amaria was about to pour on her speed when she heard her cousin call out her name. She tucked her wing in a bit and made a diver into the forest, pulling her wings fully out again to catch herself before hitting the ground. She landed fully and folded her wings against her back. "Thalia, aren't you supposed to be on guard duty? What if the dragons find the village or a human stumbles upon it?" She stopped herself and gave a small laugh. "Never mind, I doubt that'll happen for a long time. Humans aren't nearly daring enough, doubt they could even find it without wings, good sight or magic." She shook away the thought. "I can't wait to check out the lake. It's only separated from the human's trail by an introduction's length walk." She said excitedly, remembering seeing it from above. Thalia hadn't seen it from above, since her cousin could't fly, but neither of them had explored anything past that.

"Let's go, before they notice us missing!" Thalia told Amaria "I'll race you there, but no wings, okay?" and at that Thalia took off through the forest

Darian stumbled to a sitting position against the trunk of a tree, clutching his injured waist. Blood had soaked his deep blue shirt and a cutting pain pierced the area. A bloody arrow lay discarded on the grass near him. With his free hand, he pulled a scrap of paper from his glove and pulled out a magic quill. Magic objects weren't exceedingly rare, but they weren't common either. He'd picked it up from a dead soldier of the opposing kingdom. He wrote on the paper, telling of the status of the Eastern Jaybird Road battle and of his injury and how he was most certainly not going to survive. He used his bloodied hand to write, a few drops of blood landing on the paper. He rolled it up and whistled, a hawk soon coming out. He lifted the metal capsule attached to the bird's leg and slipped the paper in, the bird then flying off in the direction of the kingdom. Now that he'd gotten that out of the way, he let out a loud yell of agony. His green eyes were sharp with pain and his ivory hair was messy and clung to his forehead with sweat. His cape was bloodied and town, he really looked like a mess. His sword was fastened in its sheath on his leather belt.

Thalia was beating Amaria in this race, when she heard someone cry out that sounded like a person she thought, putting on a burst of speed. She arrived at a gruesome sight. A boy sat leaning against a tree, bleeding, he clutched his waist, which he was bleeding out of. She kneeled on the blood soaked grass, and looked at the boy who was still very much alive. She noticed that he no dragon qualities "A human..." She gasped, taking his hand, his breaths became more labored for a moment, as she relieved the pain. Well, she didn't relieve it she just took away some of the pain. Most of Thalia's powers were just for defending her village, but she was lucky enough to be able to help others in pain "Is that better?" She asked, bearing the pain he brought upon her.

Amaria looked to see a young man shortly after hearing a pain filled yell. He was bleeding badly. Amaria ran over and kneeled next to Thalia. A human, a real human! -And he's dying! She took the man's hand and moved it away from the wound, placing her own hands there. If he continued bleeding like this, there was no doubt he would die. She had slight heeling magic, basically, she could close wounds, but she couldn't heel any internal damage or anything severe. A soft glow appeared between her hands and his blood-soaked shirt as the skin began repairing itself. -- Darian was surprised to see two young women appear out of the brush and rush to his side. Women, so close to the battle? And in the forest, no less. He gasped in surprise as a great deal of the pain ebbed away and the first maiden spoke to him. "Y-yes, thank you. -But, how did you...? Do you possess some sort of magic tool?" He asked, not taking note of her dragon features in his slight delirium. Then, the blood stopped and he realized a second girl was working on his wound. Just who were these maidens?

Thalia looked at him in disbelief, then laughed. "What do you mean magical items?" She thought for a moment "It's worse than I thought. Here I will carry you back to Crimson heart." She stood up, and prepared to lift Darian.

Darian was piecing himself back together when he heard her words. She doesn't know of magical items? And, what's...? "What's this Crimson Heart?! If you're going to take me to Luthengard, then we'll be having some trouble. I'm hurt, but I am strong." He said, pushing away from the two. He brought a hand to grip the handle of his sword, preparing for a fight. That's when he noted Thalia's tail, spikes and her purple eyes. Then there was Amaria's pitch black wings and amber eyes. There's no way... It's only a myth! "You're Children of the Beasts!" He said, stumbling backwards, his dizziness beginning to leave now that he was regaining himself. -- Amaria staggered back a few steps, slightly taken aback by his reaction. What was a Luthengard and what was he going on about? Then there was that Children of the Beast thing. She was altogether confused, so she looked to her cousin who was older for some help understanding. "What does he mean?" She asked.

"I don't know, but get behind me" Thalia stepped in front of Amaria, and she pulled her spear off of the straps on her back, not knowing this man's intentions. "Beasts? Luthengard? Is that what you call Crest stone ridge?" She looked him up and down "two hundred years, and your ambassodor threatens a guard of Crimson heart? You will come with me as a prisoner if you do not explain yourself!" She prepared a spell in her mind to put up defenses in case he charged her.

Thalia didn't quite understand this answer, seeing she would get no more out of him she told him of the Dragonkin's past. "We didn't listen to you humans, so we entered the forest and built villages. Crimson heart is one of these villages." She paused "I know you will be legend if you leave this forest alive, but we can help you, put down your weapon.... That's what happened when the first few humans were daring enough to enter our domain"

Darian shook his head, of course magic-bearers wouldn't listen to humans. "Maybe in your villages or whatever, but I'm a knight of Imorela and there are no laws preventing passage into the forest. -Only superstition; that is not enough to take a man's life or sentence him to prison. The thing is, no one would believe me if I told them Dragon Children were real and I have my duty to return to battle now that I am fit to fight." He said, turning around and drawing his sword, cape lifting with the sudden gust of wind from him turning around. "Battle? Like, with more humans fighting and stuff?!" The younger lady asked, coming out from behind Thalia. She had an edge of curiosity to her voice. "Yes, but it is gruesome and not fit for a maiden." He warned as he half turning to look back at them, sword down, far from an offensive position. Without warning, Amaria sped past him with great speed and his stomach dropped. "Even with magic and wings, not many of Imorela knights are still fighting out there. Her against five would end badly, let along the fact that there's most likely fifteen Luthengard knights out there." He said with a sinking feeling. -- Amaria skidded to a halt at the edge of the forest, in plain view of the battling knights. There was definitely an air of different between the battling men, though she couldn't really pick out for sure who was on which team, mainly because it seemed like there was only a small amount on one side. She picked out a knight who was fighting two others at once, another knight sneaking in from behind. It turned her stomach but also excited her. She rushed forward, propelled by adrenaline, and punched the knight in the jaw, making him stagger a few feet, but it didn't do much. Her stomach dropped when she realized her mistake. it would take much more then a strong punch to hurt someone with a helmet, shield and sword. He grabbed her left wrist and pulled her against him, sheathing his sword and pulling off his helmet before getting a better grip on her, not seeming to have yet noticed her wings. "What do we have here? A maiden on a battlefield?" He scoffed at the end, throwing her to another knight who was bigger than her first captor. She heard a steady drum and looked over to see a wagon with knights jumping out. Battle reinforcements. She thought, stomach sinking.

Thalia ran after her cousin "wait!" she called from behind. When Thalia got out of the forest she saw her sister caught by a guard "ugh that girl" she muttered to herself jumping into the fray. A warrior of Luthenguard tried to strike her down, but she blocked with her shield. She got the attention of more and more of these fighter until she was encircled, she had no escape. As a last resort Thalia used her magic to create a sphere that none could cross.
Axel was a recruit of Luthenguard and sat on the wagon, his black hair and green eyes were intense. He was reassured that he'd be fine, but no one ever was fine after battle. He left the wagon to see a woman encircled by troops of his own, whe seemed to have a forcefield from some kind of relic. He bore a quiver that had three arrows in it, which always flew back. He used his bow, but once he made his mark the arrows woud follow relentlessly. Most archers of Luthengard had weapons such as these.

Darian ran to the edge of the forest. These girls are fast. He shook the thought away and picked out two surviving Imorela knights who were holding their own. -For now at least. Then, his eyes landed on Axel and he surveyed the situation. Amaria was caught and Thalia was surrounded, though she seamed to have some kind of translucent shield surrounding her. So that's magic. What could he do? He doubted Imorela would send backup in time and he doubted if there were any carrier birds left in the area. Plus, the hawk wouldn't reach the Kingdom until nightfall, if not later. Luthengard had magical weapons, but knights of Imorela mainly had magical armor -that's why he wasn't really wearing much of any. His cape acted as armor and as long as he was able to fight, his cape would rebuild itself. Of course, if the cape were to be taken away from himself or torn while he was badly hurt, then he'd have little protection from it. Maybe he could at least try to save the younger of the two feminines. He pushed his way into the fighting, his cape and sword blocking the swinging of swords. "Thalia!" The girl screamed. The knight holding her had a dagger against her throat and a sick look on his face. He rushed in, sword ready. -- Amaria screamed out in terror as the knight pressed a dagger against her throat, not noticing Darian rushing toward her. She snapped out her wings causing the dagger to cut the side of her neck and the knight stumbled backwards, Darian going in to finish off the knight. Amaria stumbled to the ground and pressed her hands against her neck, but another knight pulled her to her feet. She'd only managed to scab the wound, not heal it well enough and it still hurt. "A Child of the Beast! -And two of yah at the looks of it." He said, gesturing to Thalia. He gripped her arm and grabbed her right wing, making her gasp in pain. Wings were probably one of the most sensitive parts of a Dragonkin's body (if they had wings) so pain came easily to a rough touch.

Thalia watched as Amaria was hurt, and she lost concentration, if only for a second. The men around her charged in, she was able to trip one and force two others back with her shield, but one grabbed her spear, and another picked her up "Dragonfolk... What next?" He muttered to himself bringing Thalia to the wagon which men were filing out of. She kicked and yelled, but the brute was too dangerous.
Ajax watched the commotion, and saw fhe two creatures captured the one with a tail could have beaten more of us if we didn't get lucky he thought to himself eyeing the shield that was taken from her.

Thalia hugged her sister in an embrace "Oh thank the dragons you're okay!" She exclaimed, after pulling away. She noticed the scab on Amaria's neck " Do you want me to take some of the pain? " The bruising on her stomach from helping Darian was already bad enough, but she would do it for Amaria.
Axel dropped down from the top of the wooden wagon and introduced himself "Hi, i'm Axel, and i've been chosen to be your caretaker" he told them, trying to seem hospitable. The captain walked by "don't mess this up" he mumbled to Axel

He laughed a little more " but atleast they'll have eachother" He made some puppy dog eyes before continuing to laugh. Thalia very quickly retaliated and punched Axel in the jaw. He shut up and sat vigil after that

Luthengard was massive. Towers rose up as far as he could see, coupled by mansions, farms and street markets. Then, there was the castle in the far off distance. It was magnificent. White stone accented blue and flags bearing the Luthengard simple rose, easy to see even from where they were. By then, their hands had been bound -well, actually, Darian's hands had been bound. Amaria and Thalia were just kept under close watch. The wagon came to a stop at a pub first where all but five knights got off, then the wagon made its next stop at the stable where two steeds awaited, one white and one grey. One of the guards brought Darian out and mounted him and the knight on the grey horse. Axel would accompany them to the dungeons and the other three guards would bring the Dragon Children to wherever they were set for. At least they won't have to go through a beating. He was only twenty and had been in service a year; he'd heard hostage stories, but most of them ended with the captured dead. Luthengard didn't need hostages to win, they were just a good bargaining chip if need be. It wasn't like the other kingdom would even know if the hostage was dead until after a deal would be struck.

Thalia watched as Darian was taken to the dungeon. She didn't know what to do. Thecwhite cobblestone streets, the stalls, booths, and restaurants, the well tailored clothes. All of it was so unfamiliar. She felt herself summoning her magic, just in case she had to protect Amaria, or herself.

Axel rode a white horse, and was speaking to himself. "... The forest will allow a shortcut into their territory AHA yes of course, we just have to get the girls to agree but what about..." He drojed back to mumbling, it sas obvious his sanity was dwindling. " and that's where you come in! " He shouted before they got to the castle, which the dungeon was under.

The horses came to a stop at the mouth to a tunnel which undoubtedly led to the dungeons underneath the castle. By then, Darian was sure that Axel had either spent way to long on the battlefield or was insane, but that didn't really matter since he was going to get tortured soon. The knight led Darian down the tunnel and into the damp, dimly lit hallways lined with cells. He was brought to a wide, empty cell two floors down and was shoved in. He'd already been stripped of his cape and sword back when they'd switched from the wagon to horseback. He was stripped of the rest of his clothes, being left barefoot in his black pants and white shirt he wore under his outfit. "This will be your cell." The knight sneered, shutting the gate and locking it. He gave the key to Axel before saying, "Don't forget to give key to the dungeon guard when you're done with him." Not long after the knight had left had a man dressed in simple leather and cotton with a dagger sheathed in his belt stood outside Darian's cell. A guard, no doubt. He'd seen a number of them on his way down.

Axel entered the cell, but was stopped as a women from the cell across cried out. "Please give him mercy!" She then looked into Axel's eyes "Get to the girls! They are in grave danger!" The woman was old, and was seemingly insane from torture. She was obviously a dragonkin, bearing leathery wings that were ripped and shredded, and talons that poked through her dirty socks. Axel turned to her and yelled "Shaddup!" And held the whip above his head. The women fled to the back of the cell begging not to be hit. Axel turned back to Darian, a mad look in his eye "let's start easy" he grinned with pure delight "How is your armor made?!" He demanded.

The women pressed herself up against the bars "Oh mister Axel... Dealing w ith me has started to ware you down, hasn't it?" She gave a dry laugh, all she could muster. "Come here" she used her finger to call him over. Axel did as she said. Once he was near she held hos head "Such a pretty boy you are" she said, almost sounding motherly, but once he looked into her eyes she pulled his head towards her, hitting his head on the bars with immense force, and knocking him out. "Alright!" She exclaimed happily, getting the key before the guard could take it back. The guard went to the gate, and shook it, trying to get in. She used the key, and the guard flew in on his own force exerted on the door. By the time he regained his bearings, the woman had left the cell, and had locked the guard in. She then tried to use the key to unlock Darian's cuffs, but she had the wrong key. " can you break out? " She asked him hurriedly, guards would figure her out soon.
