There are days I stop to think and find myself amazed by how little most people know about the world we live in. Just over the past decade, I've seen things that to most people, would seem impossible. I have no doubt that most people would call me crazy if I ever tried to explain to them the things I've seen... I guess that may be part of the reason why I'm writing this.
Would you believe me if I told you that magic exists, hidden in remote parts of the world, or maybe even right outside your door? What if I told you that vampires and werewolves, dragons and all sorts of creatures that we've been told only exist in stories are all real?
There was a time when I wouldn't have believed any of it either, but I've seen it. I've seen all that and so, so, much more. I don't expect many people to believe me now, but maybe one day this book will find it's way into the hands of someone who will. Whether that person will be from this world or another, I don't know. That is another of the strange things I've discovered.
This world, so filled with it's own secrets yet to be revealed, is only one of many. How could I know that? Because I've seen them too, because I've met and gotten to know people not only from other worlds, but other times, and none of it would have been possible without the place I call the Paradox House.
The Paradox House is a house, believed to exist in a pocket dimension, that selects people and creatures of all types from different worlds and times and teleports them in for awhile before returning them to their worlds, sending them back to the exact moment it pulled them from so that no one even knows they were gone. We call it blinking- traveling to a another world and back again in the blink of an eye. The House is also sentient. Do I sound like I'm totally out of my mind yet? Probably, and I've just barely started explaining the place...
Inside the House, there is a living room with wood paneled walls and a hardwood floor. There are couches, a table and chairs, and bookcases filled with books that all blank. The only exit leads to a maze of a hallway with incredibly tattered green carpeting, it's corridors and stairs lined with countless doors. Aside for the doors, the walls are mostly blank, with oil lamps and mirrors here and there.
The doors are one of the many interesting things in the Paradox House- or at least the rooms behind them. The "rooms" in the House can contain anything and do anything. A room could be a huge maze filled with deathtraps, a garden with carnivorous butterflies, a giant swimming pool, an enormous pit filled with billions of socks... I've even seen a room where it was raining bagels. You could be attacked by living mannequins, your own reflection, or pretty much anything you could imagine. Most of the rooms are dangerous, others are just confusing.
There are rare occurrences where a door will lead to a blinker's world. These are not exits, but they usually give us the chance to participate in important events in the home-worlds of others... a lot of times the "important event" involves the death of the blinker whose world we've been sent to. I've started to think of it as the House's way of letting us say a final goodbye to the friends it's brought to us.
In the beginning we thought the House wanted to find some strange way to kill us, that it existed only to make us suffer in every way it could think of. Even worse than the dangerous rooms, the House gave us new friends, then made us watch them die, sometimes more than once.
The House may force us to relive out worst memories, it may bring our nightmares to life, but I believe that it has a purpose much greater than that. It takes away our technology and sends us into dangerous and unpredictable situations. It forces us to make almost impossibly difficult decisions. It pushes us until we're breaking, then forces us to keep moving on.
As difficult as it can be to survive in the House at times, I believe that the Paradox House exists to teach us. To show us what is truly important in out lives and prepare us for challenges the future may bring, in this world or another. Am I correct? I may never know... or maybe time will tell. All I can do for now is continue to take notes on the place that's become as much a home to me as my own world.

3 years of rp to catch up on... this might take a little while.
i need to figure out what to do about the background too... i'm lazy and haven't tried to mess with coding in forever so I'll probably just end up using the coding from my old art gallery.

Yeah, I guess it could be fun too though... As long as I don't give up after two pages lol.
Oh it would be great if you could! I don't know how to make the image text box backgrounds like you use, just solid color bgs. Cx and it's probably been a year since i've made one of those so i'd probably have to copy it from an old post

Some type of old paper would be good ^^
I've been trying to find a picture with like an old leather notebook and maybe a compass/old globe or something on a desk for a banner, but I haven't been able to find quite what I was wanting yet.

xD I love that as I'm reading I keep thinking 'oh, oh, I know that part'.
Heyyyy, that's pretty cool. Arlo thinks the House has the same function that Kid thinks it does.
Oh yeah, I only noticed one error. You had a small mistake near the end. It said 'has a purpose much greater that that' when I think you meant 'has a purpose much greater than that'

Yeah. He'd like to know that as well, because the one time he tried to talk to another blinker about the theory it didn't get anywhere. xD Then there's Shinichi, ever pessimistic, who just thinks it wants to kill everyone. Myrnin hasn't gotten past the 'it's fun' part. I get that! Is suddenly tempted to go edit Kid's Notebook, but...nahhh. I'll do it later.  |
