Brindles paws tingled with excitement. "I would love to adopt a kit!" She mewed, looking around happily. She was unsure of which ones were adoptable, but they all looked so cute.

Maplestone360There was a twitch of Rattlesnake's tail and he flicked it across Mistkit's nose. "Maybe you should start thinking about your own future. Not like I'm not saying to stop being a kit. But have a bit of imagination instead of practicalities like hunting and territory. Be a leader or a healer? A great hero or someone who brings others up as heroes? Hum? Little imagination like that. Think big and broad and wide." His tail spun to indicate each illustration of his words. "You could be anything you want, go anywhere you want. Just imagine it." And he looked back, grinning, "And I'll take you there." It was a wild promise, but from the way the shape-shifter smiled it could almost be seen as a realistic one. --- "Better now than never," purred Dream. "If it's something hard, it's always best to jump in. Jump in with a plan - which you've got - but you still have to jump in. Something grown cats struggle with, I'll admit." He turned on his heels, trotting at a slow pace toward the trainees' cave. This pace was so that Mottlekit could trail behind but not so that he could be left in the dust. This wasn't for Dream, this was for Mottlekit. "Come on," he said, taking a seat by the entrance. "Best ask about him."

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Maplestone Maplestone looked around as well, scanning the cavern for the kits who weren't currently bring adopted. Ah, there they are, she thought when she a few of them listening to Nightstreak tell a story. Nightkit and Skykit, it seemed. "I see some over there," she meowed. "Why don't we go talk to them?". . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Mistkit Mistkit focused and thought for a moment. Imagination? She was much more used to logic and careful planning. She wasn't one to let her head drift up into the clouds. Because whenever you dream, you always end up hurting yourself when you find out those dreams can't come true. The thought came to her mind before she realized it, and felt a flash of relief that Rattlesnake wasn't a mind reader. Not that it would make him not like her, just... she didn't want him to see just how clueless she was about what the purpose of her life was anymore. All of her futures ended eventually. And no matter how many nights she spent awake and searching through them, not one of them included her brother. She had always thought—well, hoped—that they would spend the rest of their lives together. Clearly, she was wrong. (Woah. Deep stuff. ._. This next bit is going to be a big long, though XD Since Dream isn't involved in most of it, and I shouldn't just stop in the middle, you know?) . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Mottlekit They had reached the entrance of the trainees' cave. Mottlekit gulped. Suddenly, he became nervous again. But the presence of Dream beside him drove him to slowly pad into the cave, looking for someone who would be easy to talk to. Seeing a friendly looking she-cat sitting nearby, he padded up and asked, "Um, hi. Have you seen Newtpaw anywhere around here?" The she-cat nodded and pointed with her tail to where a tortoiseshell tom was sitting alone near the dens. There he is, Mottlekit thought, and slowly made his way over to Newtpaw, despite feeling like his stomach had just dropped a tail-length. When he reached him, Mottlekit mewed, "H-hi. I'm Mottlekit. Are you Newtpaw?" The tom grunted in reply, clearly not interested. "I've heard that you can cancel out other cats' powers. Is that right?". . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Newtpaw Newtpaw was sitting alone by the dens, observing the other trainees as they obnoxiously socialized when they were actually supposed to be training, but overall just minding his own business. Or, at least he was, until a kit decided to show up and interrupt his peace. "Yes, it would seem so," he replied sarcastically. "Why?" The tom looked so nervous, he was practically shaking like a leaf. Like what he was about to ask was an incredulous, impossible thing. "Do you- do you think you could cancel out mine?" Newtpaw almost scoffed. But, please, he had at least some restraint around small children. He wasn't a kit eating badger or something. "And why would I want to do that?" he asked.. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Mottlekit Mottlekit didn't know what to say. There wasn't really any reason why Newtpaw would be inclined to help him. He wouldn't be benefitted by it in any way, after all. "Um..." he started, fumbling for words. Desperate, he looked back at Dream, hoping the tom would be able to help him.

Maplestone360(I love deep.) Rattlesnake wasn't a mind reader. But he didn't need to be to understand what Mistkit was feeling. And he was a good guesser. She continued to get the same expression, every single time that she seemed to think about her brother. "Your world doesn't revolve around him. You can see the future, where it will go, but do you need to be by his side for him to be important?" His amber eyes came down to her level as he once again lowered himself so he could see her. "He cares about you, even if he isn't involved with your life. That's what matters. He doesn't have to be here for you to be together. Just as long as you both think of each other. You are always with someone if you love them." -- Dream listened to the whole exchange without comment right up until Mottlekit looked back at him. The one-eyed tom blinked at Newtpaw before slowly saying, "You'd be interested because it benefits the Home. Because it would help a fellow cat. Helping Mottlekit is a benefit. You need to ask why? If there is no harm, and it is unlikely to be a waste of time, then why say no? It can only benefit you, after all." There was another blink. "And Mottlekit isn't asking anyone else. He's asking you. Does that not give you importance within the Home?" Dream thought it was a convincing argument, anyway.

(Nice speech.) (PS: speeches get kits. cx) . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Mistkit Mistkit had been looking at her paws when the was thinking about her brother. But now she looked up at Rattlesnake, her eyes filled with sadness. His kind words filled her heart and took the place of the pain, and even her head, always so picky and demanding the logic, agreed with what he'd said. "I guess you're right," she murmured with a sniffle. "I guess he can always be with me, if I want him to be."
[Congrats, your kit has leveled up to !] (Does Dream blink, or does he actually wink? XD) . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Newtpaw Newtpaw sniffed. Why should he care about the Home? All it did was scoop him up as a kit and trap him in a hole for the rest of his life. He had no reason to respect our help them. Plus, none of the cats that lived there gave three mouse tails about him anyway. "Why should I care about benefitting the Home?" he voiced his thoughts. "And your power can't be that dangerous anyway, kit. Why'd you come to me, then, instead of Maplestone? Just learn to deal with it like everybody else here deals with their powers." The tortoiseshell tom yawned.. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Mottlekit Mottlekit was beginning to feel very uncomfortable and humiliated. He knew this would happen. No matter how reasonable Dream sounded, Newtpaw would find some excuse to get out of doing anything. What he'd heard about the trainee was no exaggeration. (You're both accepted! :3)

Maplestone360(I'll keep that in mind cause kits are hard to level up. o.o ) "Exactly," said Rattlesnake, laying his tail on her shoulder. "I'm sure he'd want you to be happy." His amber eyes were bright. "And anyway, you have all your life to tell a story for yourself. Make it a good one for him." It was an ideal he would have loved to live by, if his life didn't stretch ahead of him like an endless ribbon. Something of which Mistkit probably knew, but he didn't ever want to ask about. "So," he prompted. "Do you want to start?" He grinned at her, almost kit-like in his pleasure. -- (Wait ... Newtpaw can temporally suppress a power. If he used it on Dream that would hurt) (Yup. That's a wink. ![:P](//storage.proboards.com/6575102/images/iVhKxJ4UsBP0VgImbuAI.gif) ) Dream's ear flicked and his singular eye flicking around the den. "You," he said. "Remind me of Dreadmoon. I wonder if getting them in here would get anything through your thick skull." Blunt, but with such a flat tone that he hardly seemed to be serious. Instead, he said in his 'serious' voice, "I could bribe you. I could plead with you. I could console or threaten. I was just choosing to ask for a kit that is beginning to mean quiet a lot to me. Benefiting the Home, your group for however little time you stay here, means that you gain a position of power. This gains benefits. Cats looking up to you, cats willing to return kind for kind, cats that would say 'Newtpaw deserves this'. That is the benefit. He came to you because you already have a reputation, bad or good. However, you do not know how many others will ever look to you if you never open up. Being alone is very hard. Maybe you came here as a kit, maybe you do not understand why isolation never pays. I lost my eye, and almost my life, because I would not help another when they asked. Be someone better."

Squirrel gazed around as she neared the adoption center. She had heard lots about it and had left her forest to come and see if she could give yet another cat a true home. sky | the home Sky had been waiting for the day that she'd be able to adopt a kit. She couldn't have one of her own, as she was infertile, so when she found out about Maplestone's Home for Talented Cats and Kittens, she was extremely excited- especially for the fact that, apparently, these kits were "talented". Sky didn't know what that meant, but if a kit was going to live with her, that kit was going to have to learn medicine, so talent was appreciated by her.
Regardless, here she was, entering the home for the first time. As she padded into the center, she glanced over at another cat, seemingly here for the exact same reason that she was. "Hello! I'm not the owner of the home, but- it's nice to see another cat here."

Squirrel looked to the other and nodded, a smile covering her features. "It is isn't it? I'm Squirrel. I live in a forest I enchanted. IT's been home to cats who were thrown out of their owns for years now. She smiled and took a step back. "Sorry if my coloring scares you."

sky | the home Sky smiled back, although she was, admittedly, a bit scared by the other's colouring. "It did scare me a bit, yes, but it's just because I haven't really seen many cats with that colouration. Oh, excuse my manners- I'm Sky. I live alone, so I was thinking that having a kit may help me be a bit less reclusive." That was the true reason she wanted to have a kit. She really did want to have a friend, and raising a kit would fill that void nicely.

(But trainees are harder. ![:sneaky:](//storage.proboards.com/6575102/images/jLx9WsnX4Yca0Az7ZBn7.gif) ) . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Mistkit Mistkit's eyes began to shine with hope again. The stressful fact that there were millions of possible futures that could come to be was also a good thing. She could choose any one of them she wanted to follow. The decision was all hers for the making. But, not having much experience doing it, she would still be grateful for some advice. "Yes," she replied. "Where should we start?" (And also, Newtpaw just happens to be a little prick. Tough nut to crack, that one.) . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Newtpaw Newtpaw was becoming frustrated fast. It seemed that the tom in front of him was trying to intimidate Newtpaw into doing what he wanted, and the trainee was quite, quite the opposite of gullible. "You know what, old badger?" Newtpaw began, inching to where he stood only a whisker away from the tom's one-eyed stare. "In the real world, there is no such thing as 'kind for kind'. If you don't turn on them first, they'll turn on you. Being alone sounds perfect to me. And I'd much rather save myself the effort of constantly having to look over my shoulder, than risk rolling over and showing my belly to the entire world. Thank you very much." Then, without another word, Newtpaw turned and padded over to the kit—wasn't this conversation supposed to be about him anyway?—and mewed, "Just go back where you came from, kit. You've lived for this long with your power, and you look like you're holding up fine to me. And don't think for one second your friend can convince me otherwise.". . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Mottlekit But the truth was, Mottlekit wasn't holding up fine. He had been so convinced that maybe he had a shot with this trainee, but now it was all just blowing up in his face. He was making a scene in front of all the other trainees in the Home, and he couldn't talk his way out of it like when Yellowkit would pick on him. This was much, much worse. And Newtpaw's cold green stare made his pelt grow hot with fear and shame. ...Or was it just shame? He never felt this hot just from emotions... No. Not now. Mottlekit looked to his paws, and sure enough, unnatural, jagged cracks were beginning to creep up his pelt, firey orange and blazing gold shining from underneath. And it was too late to stop it. (The Home: Where Everything is a Soap Opera™) (You're accepted, Minty Clod :3) . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Nightstreak Nightstreak wasn't currently talking to anyone at the moment, besides the kits who were seated around him. Most didn't look like they were listening to his stories anyway. But that was alright. He didn't mind. However, when he saw a new cat step into the Home, he didn't hesitate to go over and help them. "Hello!" he replied, mimicking Maplestone's cheerful greeting to newcomers. "Welcome to Maplestone's Home for Talented Cats and Kittens. Are you here to adopt a kit?"
