Tom stared around at his surroundings, looking utterly confused. He didn't try to resist. Reese nodded and headed out.
Cas tore the gun out of one of the guards' hands with incredible strength, used it to hit the second one in the face, then tossed the third guard across the courtyard. He turned briefly to meet Ben's gaze, confused, then continued on.

"Jacob?" Ben called tremulously after him. After all, who else could it be? He took a step after him, eye wide.
Carl helped Shaw when he could, although he found his skills to be far beneath hers. He briefly wondered if her and Riley had trained together, since their abilities were so similar.
James followed Reese's lead, holding Tom stubbornly. He wasn't going to let go again. He wasn't going to let his little brother down again.

Cas ducked outside the gates, slamming them shut and locking them from the outside. That would buy time, anyway. He looked out into the jungle. "We need to run." said Charlie.
The muted 'whoosh' of a sniper rifle sounded from nearby, chipping a piece of bark off a nearby tree.
Reese reached the wall a little ways away from the main group and started working on picking the lock. Tom watched him from his position in James' arms. "'Are we burglars?" he slurred, looking up at James with his wide, confused gaze.

"Run." Shaw ordered, and they did, not paying g attention to where they were going so much as getting far away from the sniper rifle.
James glanced down at him, confused. "Yes." He answered impulsively, in possibly the most brotherly way imaginable.

Tom gave a little nod, seemingly satisfied with this answer, then his eyelids drooped as he grew sleepy again. Reese got the gate unlocked. "Let's go."
And everyone did run. All in approximately the same direction, into the thickest cover they could find.

Shaw stopped finally, after she had stopped hearing the gunshots for a while. She glanced around for the others, beginning to walk in the general direction they had disappeared.
Carl was following Dean, keeping him in sight so as not to get lost.

Reese met up with them, James and Tom behind him. "We got him." he reported. "I don't think I was followed."
In the distance, the howling of the island demon echoed across the jungle. Dean, Charlie, and Cas all froze.

Crowley ran up after a moment, face red and quite out of breath. "Coming for me, I suppose." He gasped out, somewhere between pessimistic and important.
Shaw turned towards the noise, frowning. "Haven't heard from that thing in a while." She commented.
"We have to run." Sam said hurriedly, glancing at the others. "Now."

Reese nodded and turned to go. Dean stepped backwards and aimed his gun, trying to get a clear shot. Suddenly the demon burst out from the trees and barreled through the group, scattering them and just generally causing confusion.

Carl got off a couple shots before being thrown, crashing and rolling.
Crowley shouted as he was bowled over once again, cursing loudly in some language.
James gave a startled yell, immediately turning his back and acting as a body shield for Tom. He found himself pushed off his feet, rolling midair and getting the breath knocked out if him as he also became a human pillow.

Tom gave a startled shout, coming to, and looking wildly around. "Wha - is that smoke? Is our house on fire?" he asked loudly.
All at once, the smoke took a confusing little dive, dissipated, then vanished. Dean looked around, tense and confused, hanging tightly onto Claire. "Where'd it go?"

Claire's head rolled limply, still out cold. Apparently Crowley was stronger than he looked.
James pushed Tom off and sat up, propping his brother up as well. "Just stay down." He ordered, looking around him. "It's gone."
Shaw scrambled up, gun at the ready. "Where is it?" She demanded, beginning to look.
"Dunno." Sam answered, staring around.

"They're gonna think we did it." slurred Tom, looking vaguely upset. "We're s'posed to be burglars, not ar...ars...astronomists." He had probably meant arsonist, but he was pretty out of it.
"What kind of a demon is this?" asked Dean, rounding on Crowley. "I mean - King of hell, surely you've seen something like this before."

"If I had, do you think I would have let it bully me?" Crowley snapped, evidently sour over his own ignorance. "It's not even a real demon, or I would have known about it long before it came bumbling into our camp!"
"So you're basically saying you have no idea." Sam challenged.
"It's our diversion." James answered distractedly, listening to the Winchester's conversation with a disturbed expression.

"Well, it's one weird demon if gunpowder actually works on it." said Dean. "How the hell are we supposed to know what we're up against here? No journal, no laptop, no Bobby."
"We need to focus on getting back to camp." said Reese, who had been standing motionless nearby for several minutes. "We're vulnerable here."

Crowley jerked his head at Reese, looking sullen. "What he said. If you two can manage not to completely sabotage everything with your brotherly affection, maybe I c and figure something out." He turned, this is the point where he'd vanish back home, but since that wasn't an option he settled for storming away.
Sam suspected the demon had agreed with Reese simply to get on Dean's nerves. He exchanged an exasperated look with his brother, and started off.
"What was that thing?" Shaw asked, falling in beside Reese.

Dean rolled his eyes and they continued on.
(Timeskip back at camp)
Dean set Claire down in one of the available beds. Cas sat down next to her, watching her closely. He had no idea what state she'd be in when she woke up, but he intended to be there for it.
Tom was fully awake now, but only in the physical sense. His mind was still firmly scrambled. At the moment, he was sitting on a piece of wreckage, staring up at the sky.

"Hey." James sat down cautiously beside Tom, offering him a plate of food. "Thought you might be hungry."
Claire moaned quietly, beginning to slowly wake up. She blinked open her eyes slowly, squinting confusedly around her.

Tom didn't take his gaze off the sky. "Clouds are strange." he said. "They just keep...moving. Why do they?"
"Claire?" said Cas cautiously. "Claire, can you hear me?"

Claire blinked, slowly opening her eyes wider. She frowned, then reached up and touched the spot on her head the brainwashing glasses had left a mark silently.
James looked up as well, looking at the clouds. "Because of the wind." He guessed in a bemused, but protective tone.

"Do you know who I am?" prompted Cas.
"Why...why don't they fall?" he asked, frowning up at the clouds as if irritated by their apparent lack of logic.

"They're made of tiny drops of water." James explained, hoping he was remembering his school lessons well enough to satisfy Tom. "They're lighter than air, and then it rains when there's too much water." He waited, wondering if this was leading up to something.
"....Dad....?" Claire guessed sleepily, peering up at him and blinking rapidly. "Did I die again?"

Cas's heart sank. "Oh, Claire." he said compassionately. "I am not your father." He looked down, no longer meeting her eyes when he said this. Because it should be that way, shouldn't it? It should be Jimmy Novak waking his daughter. But it wasn't, because of him. Because Castiel, Angel of the Lord, needed a vessel.
"I wish it wouldn't." said Tom. "Then we wouldn't be stuck here." He looked out at the ocean as he said this.

"What do you mean?" James asked, concerned. How could the rain be responsible for keeping them on the island. He glanced at his brother, wondering what was going on in his head.
Claire shut her eyes, a pained look immediately sliding over her pale face. "Go away." She ordered, her voice rising in panic. Not again, not this time. She couldn't bear it any more, the constant rise of joy and relief, only to be dashed to pieces again by the unending despair that was reality. It was like having a nightmare, only every time you jerked awake, sweaty and shaking, to the safety of your own bed it turned out you weren't really awake at all and this nightmare was somehow impossibly worse than the last. Every time they managed to convince her she was safe. She wasn't going through that again.
Not ever.

"Of course, I - I understand." said Cas, flinching at the harsh but understandable rejection. He stood up and headed towards the tent exit.
"Well...if there was no rain," Tom seemed to be thinking about this very hard. "If there was no rain, the ocean would just dry up, wouldn't it? Then we could go home."

James frowned, considering this. "I guess so." He answered, honestly having no idea. "I never really thought about it."
Claire stood up after a moment of difficulty and began to pace, putting her hands up to her head as in in great distress.
"Cas, how is she?" Sam ran over, looking concernedly at his friend's dejected expression.

Finch approached him, sitting down stiffly beside him. "The rescue seems to have gone well." He commented, glancing at him. Shaw had not yet appeared, she had mentioned something about hunting.
