yael sung Yael doesn’t hate Korea. She hates plane rides. And car rides. And boat rides. And trips to South Korea just so happened to be a combination of all three of those things. Seeing her grandparents, cousins, aunts, and uncles only made the travelling slightly worth it. The Yeun Pack were a calm bunch, especially compared to the Sterling Pack. But if there were two things they loved it was early mornings and late nights. Never a good combination. The car stuttered and faltered half-way home━ Yael suspected the weight of seven people was too much for it to handle. At which point, Yael had opted to simply run home in wolf form. No one had protested━ her mother was always the first to encourage letting her wolf breathe ━Hudson and Luther had even scrambled after her. Their shifts were sloppy with excitement for a run. A mess of fur and claws and snapping jaws. Pink tongues lolling giddily over glistening fangs. Her sisters were less keen on joining in, still exhausted from the plane ride and looking to snag a few extra seconds of sleep while the sun was still low. So they raced. Yael led the sprint. Three wolves zigging and zagging through the brush. Slipping over decaying leaves slicked with dew. Surging over logs dressed in mossy gowns. They stayed a safe distance from the road━ close enough not to get lost, far enough not to be seen. She yelped in surprise as Hudson snapped at her heels, urging her on. Luther overtook her in that instant, snapping up first place in their race with all the ease and grace expected of a wolf two years senior. Hudson nipped her heels again, gaining on her. The three tore through the forest, paws gathering dew and mud alike and breath misting in the cool morning. It wasn’t until they were well into Sterling Pack’s territory that Luther led them back onto the road. The going was easier without the hindrances of thicket and brush. Yael barely felt the road flying away beneath her or the way her lungs burned with the exertion of keeping up with her brother. Luther’s pace slowed as they drew nearer to the guarded entrance of the pack’s heart. He’s getting tired. Seeing her chance, Yael bolted past him, nearly knocking over the guard in the process. Victory was the only thing on her mind. The kind of victory that would make Nike proud. Hudson came barreling after her. Luther, last. Barely out of her wolf form, Hudson was on top of her, teeth at her throat with just enough pressure to grip the flesh without tearing. “Don’t be a sore loser!” She smacked his snout teasingly, eliciting a half-hearted growl from him. Luther snapped at their younger brother, teeth bared, commanding obedience. A true dominant male. Hudson backed off, not needing any more convincing. Yael flashed Luther a victorious grin, waiting to see how he’d accept his defeat. What she found was not at all what she expected. Luther’s hackles were raised, the fur along his shoulders spiked like an irritated porcupine. Shifting back revealed human features crumpled in the wolf’s equivalent of on-guard. She raised an eyebrow, triumph forgotten, evaporating with the mist beneath the rising sun. “Hey? You alright?” “Someone’s at the gate. Didn’t you see?” There was a curl to lip, the beginnings of a snarl. Yael retreats back a step, unsure if the snarl is for her. She shook her head, accenting her confusion with a shrug, “N-no? Is that bad?” “It was a stranger. I didn’t recognize her scent.” He shook his head, the snarl dissipating with the gesture, and raked a hand through his hair. “You go on ahead, I’m gonna wait for mom and dad.” Yael nodded, leaving behind Luther and Hudson to work things out. The news burrowed beneath her skin with a ferocious itch. She tried to shake it off, focusing instead on her destination. No doubt Rowan would be having trouble getting breakfast ready for everyone. Yael was prepared for the worst. The last time she was gone for a week she had returned to burnt eggs and burnt bacon on burnt toast. The only decent thing had been the coffee. She walked through the door, inviting herself in the home of her alpha as easily as if it had been her own. As expected, the kitchen was packed. There’s Rowan, Robin, Ryland, Elaina, Colby, Leo. Oh! And Luca. She scrunched her nose at the bombardment of scents. It felt like she was back in Korea for a moment, everyone crammed into a single space, vying for the spotlight (grandma always won). Except this family wasn’t thick enough to start spilling out onto the lawn and force the rest of the pack to mingle with them. A warmth spread through her chest, bursting with a sense of home and security. It spread, bright and blossoming. Vining through her veins until it opened across her features in the form of a grin. “I’m home!” The statement is to no one in particular. In fact, Yael is almost certain her return has gone unnoticed, swept up in whatever chaos had overtaken them in that moment. She was a mess. Windswept hair. Skewed glasses. Skin beading with sweat. Huffing and puffing like the Big Bad Wolf himself. Her eyes swept over each and every face, finally landing on Rowan. The itch returned. Growing in force and demand. Did he know about the stranger at the gate? Maybe he had invited her? Yael wondered, briefly, if it was her place to tell him. She decided against it, pushing through the sea of bodies on her way to the fridge, hoping to get breakfast started before her lack of sleep had a chance to catch up with her.

Colby Marce ❝ charm is the ability to insult people without offending them; nerdiness is the reverse ❞ - - - - - - - Colby drank in the smell of the sea and the scent of an oncoming rain and warm, worn books just before he Yael could walk in and announce her arrival. Oddly enough, the combination of scents was no longer associated with reading on the beach before rain... Right now, it was associated with a rumbling tummy. In fact, his did rumble instinctively. It was his Pavlov's dog. Yael and cooking just went together, no matter the time of day, though especially at the times of day where she was cooking breakfast, lunch, or dinner.
Colby stood and grinned ear-to-ear. "Yael!" He did not almost call her Mom. "Take a seat! I was about to make some omelettes for everyone with Robin's fresh eggs!" he teased, stretching out his arms as he stepped up beside her, indicating his want of a hug. The mom of the pack was not getting off without a welcome-back hug from at least one pack member, possibly more. She'd arrived at an unfortunate time, though, so he didn't know that everyone could spare her their attention. Yael probably didn't want to cook considering she looked... worse than him at the moment, but he couldn't help but joke.
She was already at the fridge anyway, though, and probably about to make breakfast. He actually did feel a little guilty. Maybe he could help her? He couldn't ruin the food if he was only prepping ingredients or something, right? He wasn't really suited for cooking. He preferred eating energy bars, microwave dinners, and ramen while in the comfort of his own cabin.
However, none of those three things was even one fifth as nutrition as Robin's fresh eggs probably were. Well, not her's. Her chickens'. Although she was named Robin, she did not lay eggs. Anyway, he didn't often eat in his cabin because he hated missing meals with the pack. If he did, it was probably because he'd been working and had lost track of time. Or he was sleeping. However, he practically had alarms set on his phone so he wouldn't miss meals. Even though the pack didn't actually have a set "meal time", he'd been around these people long enough to know their schedules.

Olivia Harper
"Sure, just stick the female at the gate." - a female who understands it's her turn for gate duty but likes to complain anyway - - -
Rrrrrp.
"Shhhh... Only a few more hours of gate duty. I promise."
This is what she had been reduced to. Talking to herself. No. Talking to her stomach. How sad was that? It wasn't even a silent conversations, the words floated from her mouth and drifted down to her stomach, as if to sooth the rumbling beast. But her words hardly had an impact, for a few seconds later the soft grumble sounded once more. Rrrrp.
"Will you just shut up?" its owner finally snapped, lips puckering into a frown. "Maybe, if we're lucky, they'll save us some of whatever Yael's making for breakfast. Or better yet, maybe Yael will be willing to make something fresh." It was wishful thinking. The last time she had had gate duty, the slim lass had arrived hours after breakfast had been cleaned up, and, not wanting to bother the pack sweetheart, she poured herself a bowl of cereal and chowed down on that.
At this point, Ms. Olivia Jane Harper would have settled for that bowl of cereal and a nice nap. It wasn't that she hated gate duty, but she certainly wasn't a fan of it. But who was a fan of sitting at the gate for hours on end? Perhaps one with a lot on their mind could find enjoyment in sitting there. Alone. For hours. But this particular shifter needed movement. She needed the feeling of wind through her fur, the blur of scenery passing by. Not this stagnant image before her. Sure, it was relaxing at times, but with her current lack of sleep, sitting there was growing rather difficult. The only thing from preventing her eyes to shut with the weight of fatigue was the incessant grumble of her belly, reminding her of the hours between her and any sort of food.
Oh, why, oh, why was she assigned to this blasted gate duty? It was because she was a she, wasn't it? Okay, so the twenty-one year old knew and understood the reasoning behind her standing there, and, no, it was not because she was a female. It was understood that it was simply her turn to sit and wait by the front gate, but she silently protested to this unfair treatment anyway. Okay, she was just a testy little thing. By no means would she ever bring up this issue to Rowan or the others. Heck, it wasn't even an issue. It was simply her own insecurities of being a female enforcer, surrounded by males, and the constant need to prove herself. But she would continue to mentally grumble about it until her own inhibitions eventually, hopefully, died away.
A soft sigh escaped her lips as she stood to pace, gaze searching the horizon for any movement. It had been quiet thus far in her shift, and, despite her lack of something to do, she hoped it to stay that way. To be quite honest, Ollie was scared that if something were to happen, some were to approach, they wouldn't take her seriously. Sure, her pack knew and respected her as a female enforcer, but they were some of the only ones open to her undertaking of such a position. The outside world was far less open-minded and friendly.
It wasn't long before the peace of the morning was interrupted by the sound of wheels on the gravel. Ollie's wolf stirred, now anxious at the movement. She did her best to ignore the apprehension now growing within her. At the sight of a figure leaving the vehicle, the lass tensed, gaze glued to approaching shifter. Her murky brown eyes narrowed at the female, her lips pressed into a tight line. The other female's confusion over the sight of a female guard was written all over her face, irritating the young enforcer.
The words that left the other female's mouth enticed a small huff of amusement to leave her lips, breaking Ollie's seal of silence. One did not just appear and demand an audience with her alpha. No, no, no. Well, not without a little verbal sparring first.
"Yeah? And I probably need a shower. But that's not happening any time soon." Okay, gross, but not a lie. She had been standing out there for some time now and hadn't had the chance to bath before the start of her shift. The raven-haired lass was likely in need of a rinse. But should those have been the first words to leave her mouth? Well, probably not, but it was too late to take them back, right?
