yael sung Yael shrugged, sleep-rimmed eyes glittering with amusement at Crawley’s comment, “You know what they say: the fastest way to a man’s heart is through his pillows.” She didn’t object at Robin’s insistence, instead, she allowed the dominant female to lead her upstairs. Robin had a point after all, if given the opportunity, Yael would have found the floor to be as comfortable as any bed. However, she had no intention of sleeping. A sliver of doubt wormed its way into her plan. Sure, Rowan had explicitly state they were to stay in the cabin, but he had implied it. That’s why he called Crawley over, to keep an eye on everyone, to make sure they stayed safe. Safe from what, though? What did Rowan know that the rest of them didn’t? He’d been quietly discussing with Elaina when Yael had first arrived, did that have anything to do with the urgency edging his tone? Had their Seer seen something? A shiver threatened to break the surface of Yael’s skin. She suppressed it. Pushed it down with the doubt. When they found Rowan’s room at last, Yael offered Robin a grateful smile. “Thanks, I think I can handle myself from here. You go make sure Crawley hasn’t jumped on Elaina yet. Oh! And tell Ryland and Colby that there might be some blueberries in the fridge if they want to add those to the pancakes. Maybe chocolate chips, too. But use tell them to use them sparingly if they do! Rowan might want to use them for something else. Or maybe he just likes to eat blueberries? Does he have any strawberries? No, wait, sleep. G’night” Cutting off her rambling, Yael left Robin behind in the hall, closing the door just enough without shutting it completely. Though Yael had no intention of staying in Rowan’s room for longer than a few minutes, she couldn’t help but look around. Dismal. Yael wasn’t sure what she expected, but she never thought her alpha’s room would be so… Bland. It was the inside of a storm cloud. Black and grays dominated the atmosphere. The only thing missing was thunder and lightning. For a moment, Yael wondered if she was even in the right room. She shook the thought away, focusing on the task at hand. The room had a window and that’s all she needed. Shimmying the window open, Yael surveyed the area. The drop wasn’t too far, she’d had longer falls from trees. The cliffside was far enough that there was no risk of missing the ground and plummeting into waves and jagged stones. Suck in a breath. Hold it. Jump. Yael hit the ground in a tumbling roll, the kind that saved her ankles from snapping like twigs. Dirt and rocks scraped her skin, her cheeks. Between one bruise and the next, girl and wolf switched places. A brown-and-black wolf stared out over the cliff. The tang of sea-brine coated her coated, carried by an ocean wind. Seagulls wheeled and cried overhead. She glanced back at the cabin, up at the open window. No one had followed her. No one knew. For now, at least. Yael shook out her fur, ignoring the ocean spray dewing on her pelt, sticky with salt. The hard part was over, now came the tricky part. The burning curiosity had spread, stretching its roots through her chest, twining around her ribs. It urged her on, demanding answers. Yael trotted around the house, careful to steer clear of windows. Though everyone was concentrated in the kitchen for now, she didn’t trust them to stay there for long. Boredom would have them moving into other rooms for the house sooner or later. Once clear of the cabin altogether, Yael broke into a trot and then a run. She was careful to stay away from the road, in case Rowan was somehow still driving. Her earlier weariness had been shoved clear to the back of her mind, stuffed away until her hunger to know had been abated. The trees thickened, knitting closer and closer together. Undergrowth filled the gaps between trunks, providing dense enough cover for Yael to creep through, but slowing her pace back down to light jog. Minutes passed before the road crawled back into view, glimpsed between tree trunks and bramble thickets, and the gate with it. Yael hunkered low, watching the scene unfold, but daring to draw no closer. The “stranger” was… Disappointingly underwhelming. Yael hadn’t expect much to begin with, let alone a lone female reeking of another pack. Her ears pricked forward, but the conversation was lost to her. Ollie━ the enforcer tasked with morning guard duty ━was rigid, prickling with the after-effects of a confrontation. Yael guessed that, despite being alone and outnumbered, the strange female was not above treading on frayed nerves. Rowan was also clearly on-edge, but that was hardly new or surprising. A strange she-wolf at the edge of your territory would make an alpha uneasy. Yael just hoped she hadn’t missed the juiciest bits of the conversation yet.

robin ashwood --
The healer wasn't going to do anything else until she saw to it that Yael made it to Rowan's room. As she had thought earlier, she would speak to Rowan about it should he find it unpleasant that the female had used his bed. Her scent would definitely be all over his bed and in his room. There was no way to hide what happened, and it wasn't like the pack was going to not tell him if he came back and the female was still asleep. It was his bed, he had a right to know who used it when he was away on official business.
Even the wolf inside perked its ears when Yael spoke up. Robin looked at the other female with those forest green eyes, nodding every so often as she listened to the girl ramble on. A laugh slipped from her lips. "Understood. I'll let everybody know to use any berry sparingly. Rowan's berries are safe." As soon as that sentence slipped off of Robin's tongue she couldn't help but glance away, a laugh caught in the back of her throat. Rowan's berries. God, it was like she was a teenager again laughing at something so immaturely put. And usually she was a mature person.
Taking a moment to let herself calm down from that dumb little bit of laughter, Robin gave a few last words before leaving Yael to her own devices. "Sleep well, alright? And don't worry about everybody else, I'll keep them in line." With that Robin turned on the balls of her feet and walked back down to the kitchen area. She looked around at the rest of the pack as she made it back, assessing everything that might have went on in the last two minutes. Everything still seemed pretty calm. That was good.
Making her way back to where she had placed her tea, the healer quickly poured her a cup. She took in the deep scent of chamomile and pancakes, sighing softly. If that nagging feeling of worry wasn't in the back of her mind, everything would be perfect right now. Then she remembered what Yael had said.
Setting down her cup of tea, Robin announced, "Yael said to use any berry sparingly if you use any." With that being said, the healer went back to sipping on her cup of tea, letting the warm liquid settle into her stomach. It helped calm that nagging worry just a bit, but she still couldn't help but wonder what exactly was going on out there with Rowan, Luca, and Leo.

Colby Marce ❝ charm is the ability to insult people without offending them; nerdiness is the reverse ❞ - - - - - - - Colby placed a hand on his chest. "Ryland, I'm-- I'm offended that you can see through me so well," he joked. "Fine, I'll help. Making pancakes is a task only fit for a master chef, after all." He shook his head, grinning.
He was actually just glad to have something to do. Like Yael, he was also curious about what was going on at the gate. I mean, what had Rowan so in a frenzy? Was there an intruder? Did this stranger mean harm? Oh, what if they were human or something? Then again, it was probably a shifter. (I mean, there wasn't this much chaos every time a human out hunting got lost and ended up at their gate.)
As for making breakfast, he wasn't quite sure how he'd help. Maybe he could be measuring things? Set with the idea, he opened up the cupboards and pulled the measuring cup out. Anyhow, Ryland would need it. While he was at it, he pulled out a large plastic mixing bowl. "What are the ingredients?" he asked Ryland. They probably needed a generous amount of flour, which would be in the pantry, as well as eggs and vegetable oil.
He turned around as Robin walked back in with instructions to use the berries sparingly. He gave her a confused look, but it would be noted that they would need to use the berries sparingly. "Oh! That's a good idea. They should be fruity pancakes!" he told Ryland, as if he'd thought of it himself.
He'd leave Ryland in charge of getting the berries and such out of the fridge, though, because he didn't want to help too much.

LACHLAN STONE
"My teeth may be sharp, and I've been raised to kill... But the thought of fresh meat, it is making me ill..."
◘ ◘ ◘ ◘
The sound of Rowan putting Aurora back in her place twisted Lachlan's gut. He could take care of himself. Nevertheless, he was grateful for it. He watched Aurora slink out of the house, and morph into her red wolf form. She slipped around the side of the house, leaving Lachlan to settle on feeling indifferent. He'd meant nothing to her until he proved his worth, the fact that he could earn his keep in the pack.
Her bitterness must have rubbed off on him through the years, he'd been a real riot to be around when he was younger. The old alpha had detested him, Lachlan had been one of the few who would stand against him. A long scar over his chest reminded him of when he'd stepped too far out of line. Lachlan had defended the younger ones, and always had a joke to take people through hard times. When Lachlan had no one to help him through his hard times, eventually, his spirit broke. Gone was the charming smile and the wild story-telling for the younger ones. Lachlan liked to look back on those days, remembering every detail. Maybe some day he could find it inside himself to be that person.
Lachlan's inner wolf practically leapt out of him trying to follow Rowan. He could help protect him. Why wasn't he brought along? Everyone else probably knew what was going on... He hated being clueless. He'd arrived late, and missed the news, and now he was in the dark. Holding back a frustrated growl, he chided his wolf into silence. His alpha could handle it. He met Rowan's gaze, and a chill went down his spine. He could see the relation in their eyes, the same eyes that had leered over him before tearing into his chest. He remembered lying on the ground as- He blinked away the traumatic event, Rowan wasn't his father. He'd proved that.
Rowan had ordered him to stay, so he finished off his veal, licking his lips with satisfaction. He could cook pretty well, if he said so himself. Of course, nothing topped Yael's cooking. He wanted to check in on her, make sure she was alright, she'd just gotten back from a long trip. He headed towards Rowan's's room, but stopped himself. Yael was probably resting by now, and wouldn't like to be disturbed. Besides, he had no place wandering around in the alpha's house. Instead, he leaned up against a wall, dutifully watching the door.

luca monti someone please make him some pancakes (preferably someone other than rowan) - - - - - One arrival tore his attention away from his alpha, and in an instant, he had forgotten all about visions and prophecy and all of that utter mystery that came to breakfast with Elaina this morning.
And yeah. It took some genuine, good ol' self control on Luca's part to keep himself from audibly heaving a relieved sigh as he noticed Yael enter the room. She had been gone far too long. (In other words, Luca had gone without a decent meal for far too long. Her arrival now saved him from a Rowan breakfast, and for that, he was sincerely, truly, from the bottom of his heart, grateful. But I digress.) Not a smile, not a welcoming nod (because everyone's favorite grumpypants beta boy was still in a Bad Mood from last night's lack of sleep), but a slight brightening within his brown eyes. An inkling of happiness. Coming from Luca, it was more than most people got on a good day.
At the mere mention of pancakes -- and not just any pancakes, but Yael's pancakes -- his mouth began to water. (Calm yourself, Luca, buddy, it's okay.)
But when Rowan suggested that she simply rest and take some time for herself, he couldn't keep his mouth from falling open in protest. But he knew better than to challenge his alpha. Especially on something as trivial as pancakes. Yael's home now, he reminded himself, you can ask her to cook for you some other time.
The beta's attention reluctantly returned to Rowan as he addressed both Luca, himself, and Leo, and Luca's jaw just slightly tightened as he let out a sharp exhale through his nose. Luca gave a single nod, acknowledging his alpha's words, and he barely even noticed as Rowan slipped from the room.
For the next few moments, his attention was scattered between those around him, and he stood back, quietly observing the other members of his pack.
Only when Rowan returned did Luca's curiosity, once again, pique, and he slightly raised one eyebrow as the alpha growled his command. Someone...at the gate. Someone Ollie didn't recognize. (His initial, instinctive reaction to this news was to huff a little, barely audible chuckle. Because. Whoever dared face the sharp wit of Olivia Harper needed...at least a prayer. Probably more than one. Probably a whole prayer service.) But, then again, who would be stupid enough to come here? Who would even dare --
No. That was not important now. Silently, he shrugged away his thoughts. He would wait for a cue or a signal from Rowan, as he always did. He needed to remember his place, his duty to his pack. Whatever threat lay on the other side of the gate...well. He would be ready. As he always was.
That cue came in the next breath, and without so much as a reply (or a bite to eat, I might add) Luca strode with confidence just a few mere paces behind Rowan. The beta climbed into the passenger seat beside his best friend as Leo piled into the back, and just like that, they took off down the dirt road.
His narrowed eyes fell upon the female on the other side of the gate as soon as he emerged from the jeep. And...she was absolutely breathtaking. Long, dark hair cascaded over her shoulders in loose waves. Even darker eyes met his own, and the male's posture stiffened. Sticking close to Rowan, Luca crept forward, his movements dangerously soft and smooth, power radiating from every muscle, from every inch of his body. His jaw remained firm, his dark gaze cool, yet perfectly unyielding.
He listened carefully as Rowan's menacing growl rippled through the air around them, and a sense of pride flooded Luca's veins. (Sort of in an "oh, yeah, that's my best friend" kind of way. Maybe. Because Luca Monti was dumb like that.)
But...upon hearing the female's response, his jaw just slightly twitched. The daughter of another pack's alpha was...here? (It was moments like these that made Luca grateful that he was in a more powerful position in the pack. If only because these situations were an interesting break in the monotony of one's day. Because, talk about a plot twist. Like, wow.)
She continued to speak, rather freely, about her reasons for coming to the gate as she had, and Luca could only wonder just what Rowan's response would be.
His stare, for the first time, flicked from the intruder to his alpha. Just for a split second, and nothing more.
