"My name is Aella. Nice to meet you, Tabby." Aella giggles a bit. Somebody had a sense of humor out there. She knew that Tabby was surprised, but a lot of animals tended to be surprise when she answered them. Humans couldn't understand animals, or so she had been told. She had only ever interacted with her guardians and few others in her childhood, so she wasn't actually sure. "Why are you out here, in the woods?"

OOC IC: Tabby looked at the girl. Aella. Sounded nothing like extraordinary, girl-with-powers, but her name held no meaning. She glanced up as Aella asked the question. "Just enjoying myself. Let's just say I had a frustrating day," she meowed. "What're you doing here? Most people I know would rather not spend all day in the woods." It was true. Aella was a rare person.

"I don't like being around a lot of people, but I hate being stuck inside even more," Aella said, humming. She didn't expect Tabby to actually be able to tell anyone, but she figured she might as well issue a warning. "You can't tell anyone this, but my guardians don't like it when I go out. They prefer to keep me inside at all times where they don't have to worry about me, but since I only ever go out here, they've let me keep doing it. It's not like I'm going to run. People scare me."

OOC IC: Tabitha looked at Aella. She apparently really liked animals and trusted them. "After this morning, there's a few I don't like," she meowed. Like a certain friend. "And it's not as if I could tell anyone." Haha. Of course she could. Once she shifted back. However, doing that now would reveal herself. Hopefully her parents had no plans on her coming back by a certain time, because her phone was in her human pocket.

"It doesn't hurt to be cautious," Aella said, a touch of cheer in her voice, "or, that's what my guardians would say. They always tell me to watch what I say, in case there's someone nearby." They never tell her why she should be cautious. There was a lot that they refused to tell her. She didn't ask about it because she knew she wouldn't get answers. "What happened this morning?"

OOC IC: Tabitha sighed as Aella asked about the morning. She wouldn't understand much unless she revealed herself. "Well, I'm going to make things really awkward. Before questions come, I'll just say that I must have woken up on the wrong side of the bed. I hurt my head, breakfast was terrible, my brother messed up my hair, and someone was supposed to meet me, but by the time I got there, she decided to tell me she was too busy."

{ averysmallbumblebee Those are beautiful} Aella found herself surprised, and slightly curious. Those weren't things a cat would say. She had a feeling that cats had somewhat different vocabulary than humans. She smiled again, small and confused. "Well that's a shame," she said. "And kind of rude I think. You're not a normal cat, are you?"

OOC: Sorry, I had to get a shower and do a bunch of stuff IC: Tabitha noticed that Aella caught onto that fast. "I do believe it's kind of rude, too," she meowed, before reluctantly answering the question. "No. I guess I'm not good at acting. I'm a shapeshifter. But I won't tell anyone."

"Ah." Aella didn't know how to react with being with someone who was actually human. Her smile turned a bit uncertain before brightening again. Tabby was currently a cat anyway, so she figured it wasn't the same yet. "I didn't know people could shapeshift. My guardians said that I was special because I could talk to animals. Oh, I guess that means you're special too then!"

OOC IC: Tabby nodded. "I am. I don't know anyone else who can shift into any animal," she meowed. "Oh, except fictional ones," she added. She thought a moment before realizing that Tabby was a cat color. She would find it ridiculous if someone named a tabby cat Tabby. And she currently was a tabby cat. "And, uh, Tabby's just a nickname. It sounds better than Tabitha. And I like cats."

"If you have this ability, and I have my ability, I wonder if anyone else does too." She knew it wasn't normal. She had been told enough times to be cautious because she was so "special," but it would be nice to know that there were others like her.

OOC IC: Tabby smiled at that. She knew that eventually, when you got older, it was possible to legally change your name. You'd literally be someone else. Maybe someday she'd change her name to Tabby. "I would have been laughing if someone named a cat based of it's pattern. Since my hair is brown, it'd be like someone naming me Brown. Or naming a pinto horse Pinto." She meowed. She knew the answer to the question, having been an experiment in the past. "There are, but they'd either but know or just not tell anyone. It wasn't like you'd have told any person that you're special. Speaking of that, would you mind if I shift back into a human? The longer I wait, the more it'll hurt."

"Oh, um, okay. Go ahead." Aella didn't know how she'd react to Tabby actually being human in shape. Would she be suddenly uncomfortable? Awkward? She also hadn't realized the very real possibility of there being quite a few people like them. She wondered if her guardians knew, and if they did, why they had never introduced her. It would have been nice to have someone else who understood being "special."

OOC IC: Tabitha noticed Aella'S slight discomfort, but didn't think much of it. She had said earlier that she didn't like people, so this was normal, right? Tabby shifted into a human again, and felt the familiar pain of shifting. "Sorry," she said, wondering if Aella would comment on it. Her hair was brown, and she wore jeans and a purple T-shirt. Her eyes were brown, as they always were, even when she shifted.

Aella tilted her head, feeling a bit of uncertainty. She wasn't too uncomfortable, though. It was probably because she had taken time to talk to Tabby first. If she hadn't, if Tabby had decided to approach her as human first, she would have definitely run and hid. "You're fine. Why are you apologizing?"

OOC: I'm so bad at role-playing I'm now just asking myself "What would I do?" At this rate I really need to find a way to temporarily change my personality. IC: Tabitha looked at Aella. "Well, I was kinda afraid I'd somehow made it awkward," she answered. It made sense coming from her, because she was really good at making things awkward. There were few things that made her feel so bad. "You know," she said, trying to start S conversation. "I once tried to shift into a dragon."

The small forest lay spread out below him in a beautiful mixture of greens and browns, eventually giving way to a neat line of fencing that separated the tranquility of nature from the very precisely spaced row of houses that made up a rather boring neighborhood. His target destination. Unfortunately.
He would have liked to spend more time 'cavorting about'- as his brother so delicately put it- within the verdant confines of the forest, but the presence of Icarus Corp's dual pains in the neck lent more urgency to his mission than was usually warranted. Their enemies were getting antsy, which made Ten doubly so. Lior couldn't help feeling like they were approaching a particularly violent storm despite the tepid weather and lack of severity in their most recent clashes.
It was only a matter of time. Of when. How. Where. Who. Why?
'Why?'
He remained completely still, watching in tense silence as the ebony haired figure alighted silently on an outstretched tree limb below his current perch. The man lowered his luminous longbow as he surveyed his surroundings with narrowed cerise eyes for all of several seconds before abruptly flickering out of view.
'A projection? I have less than a day then. Oh well. I can make do.'
Lior straightened and released his grip on the sunlight he'd bent to cloak himself, instead directing it to speed up the healing of the puncture wounds in his right leg with a slow turn of his wrist. Hissing out a pained breath through his teeth, he carefully eased himself to the damp earth and dangled his good leg over the lip of the ravine. He kind of wanted to fall over and take a nap, but the proximity of his pursuers kept him upright. Mostly. He supported himself primarily with his right arm, the bloodied fingers of his left raised and curled to summon more of the sun's light to his battered body. Everything hurt and his lungs burned from the unrelenting pace he'd been forced to maintain when faced with the Adraste twins and their devastating long-range assaults. -Assaults. Plural- Turned out light speed meant squat when one of your opponents can pretty much predict your every move.
Even verging on unconsciousness, Lior could imagine a slowly moving rainbow over a dark background and accompanied by a serene female voice saying 'The More You Know'. His subsequent amused snort resulted in a warning twinge from his bruised ribs. He'd thrown himself to the ground with more force than necessary to evade the deadly combination of psionic arrows and throwing knives.
"Ah, it's been a while since I've had such a workout." He supposed it was a good thing that his idea of a 'workout' involved avoiding sharp, pointy projectiles. Kept him on his toes and really put near death experiences in perspective. Because Wysten.
Speaking of-
Lior shifted to retrieve his phone from the folded pocket of his windbreaker. It took a few seconds for him to focus on the vibrating screen, but he brightened when he saw the nickname and accompanying image. He was the best at taking the worst pictures. Yet another of his many gifts.
"Hiya nerd~"
"I hear laughter in your voice- I thought I told you to delete that picture?"
Lior never got the chance to deny it, as Dotty plowed on in her Business Tone. Clipped, cool, and imperious. She'd scowl at him later. "What are you doing? You need to move, get out of there. I've sent you their updated information." His phone pinged with a new message before she'd even completed the sentence. "So finish up and...Be careful Lio. Promise me." No longer detached, concern bled into her tone. "I'm sending someone to extract you right now. Thirteen hours."
"You can hardly put a time constraint on magic." Lior scoffed, rising and stretching tentatively. Everything was working as it should, he would just have to wait out the soreness and do something creative with the state of his clothes. "My work is delicate-"
"From what I hear, LIVE Adraste is the complete opposite." She responded drolly. "I'd rather you not have to face them alone- Remember what they did to Ten?"
"Well, yes. It's permanently carved into his face." The teen responded mildly, regretting his words when Dotty responded with an irate growl.
"If you aren't in a position to leave in thirteen hours I'll sic Wysten and Tsvetan on you."
"Cruel and unusual punishment." He muttered, lips quirking as he ran the fingers of his free hand over rapidly fading scar tissue to further expedite the process.
"The cruelest." She affirmed. "So promise me."
"I swear on our grandmother's ugliest garden gnome." He assured her, tone softening with sincerity. "The one with the-"
"I know which one!" Dotty cut him off, sounding mildly alarmed.
Lior laughed, "Love you sis~" Dotty grumbled something that might have been an echo of the sentiment before hanging up in a flustered huff. Still smiling, he returned his phone to his zippered pocket before settling into a sprinter's crouch. The air around him began to shimmer as he gathered enough light for a single burst of speed. He could reach the fence line in less than a minute, which meant that he had plenty of time to accomplish what usually took him closer to forty-eight hours to achieve. Give or take a few days depending on general obstinacy. And Aella's case necessitated a certain delicacy that he'd be hard pressed to replicate in thirteen hours. Also Twins.
"Right. How hard can it be?"

Summer was fast approaching, though the weather apparently had yet to accept this. Thick cinereal clouds choked the sky and obscured the sun, shading the newly awakened city below in monochromes to match the dreary lifeless buildings and stained alleyways. The air was wet and muggy, carrying a scent that only teased at rain to either relieve or worsen the humidity. People shuffled by on their own solitary paths to starting their day. Shared but separate. A man stretched and yawned as he flipped the sign on his diner to 'OPEN'. A harried businesswoman clacked by in heels with phone pressed to her ear and narrowed eyes on her watch. Two teens slouched into an alley just as a patrol car rolled by. And all of this was depicted in varying shades of gray. As if everyone and everything had been shaded in with a dull pencil whose artist didn't feel the need to bother with color. So dull and unimaginative. Tsvetan would hate gray if he didn't connect it, even obliquely, with the man he saw as an older brother. The man who was the sole reason he was languishing in such a place when he could be enjoying a pina colada at the beach house- ' And that's enough of that.' Tsvetan chastised himself, clicking his tongue in irritation as he ducked his head to hide what he feared was a frown on his usually gentle visage. While he'd always been a 'city dweller' at heart, Tsvetan was accustomed to brilliance and color. To friendly faces and a connection to one's neighbors that went deeper than brief grunts when you happened to cross paths. He loved people, but big cities and the gray of it all tended to intimidate him. Not that he couldn't brave them- he'd just rather not. Also he was willing to blame at least part of his current mood on Wysten and his tendency to make enemies almost as quickly as Tsvetan could collect allies. It wasn't that dear Wysten was the kind of person who readily inspired hate, he reflected as he wove his way through the crowded intersection, it was simply that he was one of those dreaded 'go big or go home' types. He couldn't just have someone he'd bumped into at the coffee shop mildly dislike him, oh no. He had to blow up the property of a million dollar corporation and curse them out in three different languages as he did so. -They had it coming, but still- And so, Tsvetan, being of sound mind and mild temperament, was designated the trying neverending vocation of cleaning up after his fiery boss. He was the gentle one. The diplomat. The gentle diplomat who should be sipping a fruity drink on sunny shores and catching up on his Netflix right now. ' Ten. I love you and I love my job, but if you brush off another anger management class I'm afraid of what I'll do to you.' The previous night's assignment of smoothing ruffled feathers and making potential allies had ended in success -he would accept no less- but at the cost of his sleep. And apparently his mood as well. Perhaps this was why his reaction to a near collision with the hooded figure wasn't handled with his usual grace- not that one could easily discern the difference. "My apologies." His soft voice hardly carried over the hustle and bustle of the city, but the barest hints of steel lent it more weight than it usually possessed. "I shall endeavor to more closely 'watch where I'm going' when it comes to encountering those who walk through shadows instead of in areas that make them easier to differentiate from the gloom of the street." They had paused on the cracked sidewalk closest to a looming building, both apparently attempting to avoid a crowd. But while his stance was loose and only slightly angled toward her to suggest whom he was addressing, her body had tensed up shortly after her outburst. Apparently an uncharacteristic one, if her posture was anything to go by. A few heads had turned their way at that, and Tsvetan felt his ire drain from him at her obvious discomfort. He stepped forward and turned as if to look into the storefront window, blocking the particularly irate gaze of a suited man on his phone from her view. He abruptly felt horrible at his words, stopping just shy of biting his lip when he turned to apologize, but found her rapidly retreating form beginning to coalesce back into the shade of the buildings and her 'don't notice me' hunch. ' What's wrong with you? That was entirely uncalled for! You don't deserve a vacation if you can't handle a little stress.' She obviously didn't want to be approached, but he resolved to at least amend his words before leaving her to her own devices. However much he didn't quite like the thought of it- Tsvetan had encountered many others with such guarded miens, and for reasons that usually involved the Kingsleigh's enemies. There had been more as of late. More victims. More attacks. More of everything that Wysten was stubbornly attempting to protect others of their kind from. Tsvetan wondered briefly if he might be able to get a look at her face and find out whether she needed to be added to their recovery list, but was forced to push that thought aside in favor of his current mission when she turned a corner and disappeared from view. "Excuse me." He trotted to catch up to her, remaining at a respectable distance with hands free of his slacks and in clear view, one threading through the silken sloe locks escaping his ponytail. "I apologize for my earlier words, that was very rude of me, especially when I was entirely at fault." The corner of his mouth twitched upwards. "Or rather, I almost was. Your reflexes are obviously far better than mine." Evanna could be, and oftentimes in her youth had been, likened in many ways to a puppy. It was not innocence nor playfulness, nor the excited energy that she shared with the animal- no, those traits had packed up and split town when she had been around the age of eleven. Rather, the resemblance between the two was a thinner, less noticable thread, a select few behaviours she carried with her at every minute, resonating an animalistic air nevertheless how faint. The way she processed new information, for example, indisputably carried this air. A puppy would percieve anything unknown as wild and threatening, and commonly responded first with momentary caution, then aggression or empty barks of intimidation to ward away suspected danger. Evanna could not be said to be any different. Without stimulation, puppies become restless and deleterious, tearing even prized possessions to bits in their frustration-fueled self destruction. They remained close to what they perceived as safe, were hard-pressed to abandon comfort zones for anything but curiousity; and did they have a surplus of that. Lack of maturity, a tendency to wear every emotion on her face, loud demands for attention; Evanna was a puppy. A puppy that needed something of a distraction or else she was driven to exhaust herself running circles in the pursuit of nothing. One that always needed a mission to focus on tirelessly for every given day. She had a goal for today that she need to get to and, at the moment, it was the most she could think about. Interruptions like running into people on streets were not encouraged. It didn't help her already-foul mood when the man with which she had narrowly avoid a collision decided that pursuing her, albiet not very far, would be the best course of action. A low growl escaped her throat on impulse. " Oh, I just got yelled at. How can I remedy this situation? I got it! Let's follow this stranger who obviously wants to be left alone and see if I can get myself punched. That sounds like a solid plan."Okay, probably not his accurate representation of his thought process, but the point still stood. The idea that there was a possibility this stranger was an enemy suddenly flashed through her subconcsious for a second before it was brushed aside as too unlikely. They wouldn't engage her in full daylight... would they? The reasoning wasn't sound enough to prevent her from boarding up her thoughts one last time, just in case. Can never be too sure.Enemy or not, it would present as unusual for me to ignore him. Not to mention he might continue to follow. There were lots of weirdos located in this particular area of the city. Eyes narrowing in irritation, Evanna whipped around so she was eye-to-eye with the stranger, though she had to tilt her head upwards at an unnatural angle to accomplish that feat. She had already prepared to face whatever self-righteous lecure she figured he was most certainly saving for her, and also prepared a list of scathing comebacks to spit out in return. Sure, maybe this man was rightfully angry- she did snap at him with little incentive- but she had places she needed to go now and she was not above giving him a piece of her mind for delaying. Get lost. The words almost spilled put of her mouth a millisecond before an apology slid smoothly out of the male's own. Still worked up and buzzing with misdirected rage and anxiety, Evanna had half a mind to tell him just were he could shove his apology before leaving this unwanted situation for good, but she stopped herself. Too much of a scene had already been made, although from the corner of her eye she could see that the majority of the surrounding civilians had lost interest in her improper outburst and had continued on their paths. Only a few remained, looking as though they had nothing else to do but hope a conflict would break out. It wasn't difficult for her to decide she didn't want more attention than she had already foolishly drawn to herself. In addition, the man now standing non-threatingly and relaxed ahead of her somehow effectively defused any remaining hostility with the maybe-a-bit-too-guinuine guilt clear on his face. Remove your hands from your pockets. Try to appear apologetic. The sooner you reciprocate his apology, the sooner you can remove yourself from this situation entirely. Evanna laced her fingers together and held her arms in front of her torso in what she hoped looked like a sign of embarassement. "It's fine" she responded. Wait, that sounded too stiff. Good Lord, you're bad at this.
"I mean, it was kind of both our faults anyway, so I'm sorry too. Nobody got hurt, thanks to my "reflexes", haha. I guess all's well that ends well, right? " She corrected herself, throwing in a small smile for good measure and trying to force away the pride she felt fluttering across her features. That had probably sounded convincing. Out of all the things the young woman was skilled in, prolonging the time before she reached her desired destination was not one of them. She hoped that it wouldn't be long before there would be a socially acceptable opportunity for her to extract herself from the conversation. She sure as hell couldn't leave now; this was technically a conversation now, and appearing in a rush could raise too many alarms on the off chance she was unknowningly speaking to an enemy. There had already been too many slip-ups. (I'm embarassed regarding the number of paragraphs I spent discussing Evanna's similarity to a puppy. I got carried away and was too excited to remove it all. This post is kind of a mess, but the best I could spit out for today. Since I didn't end up writing when I was inspired, I guess you get this instead. My apolgies. I wish I could say Evanna was doing something top secret, or at least more than "frowned upon"... something that would justify her being so jumpy and analytical right now, but I can't. Poor little piece of trash character is just rather dramatic. I did not plan on this. Calm down, Honey. Nobody is coming to get you just yet.)

(Finally got that reply in. Going to reward myself by drawing, which is far more enjoyable than writing for me. I'll probably sketch out some concepts for your bois, Rockabye.
Thanks so much ^^ I was going for a more earthy tone of character, so Rapunzel works! As for Evanna, she is the most chaotic character I've ever had the pleasure of creating- so angry and impulsive. I'm glad you like her. Trust me, you'll all be hearing more about her later.
I though for sure somebody was going to murder me for my subtle not really subtle insertion of the boi meme, haha. I'm glad you got a kick out of it.
Oh, and, Amber, Rockabye doesn't just plan a huge part of the plot- she is the puppet master and we are all her willing pawns, I think.)

Aella was startled into laughter. "Oh? How'd that go?" She'd love it if she could talk with a dragon. She knew they didn't exist, but it would be nice. The sudden change in subject made her relax, feeling a lot less awkward since they found something to talk about. It probably wouldn't last, but it was nice.

Haha, I was actually about to apologize for Lior's starter being a mess. That's like, the fourth draft because I was struggling with him and I still feel like I didn't get his character across as smoothly as Seven's...
Characters can be more interesting when they catch you off-guard. x3 And I love Evanna's drama, in fact I'm also immediately fond of her as well. -Due in part by your illustrations- I almost want to have Seven detain her further because I feel like they'd be a lot of fun together- they're so different! Although Tsvetan is secretly a Drama Queen like you wouldn't believe.))

OOC IC: Tabby grinned. It would've been cool to be a dragon, and she grinned as she told the story. "Well, the closest I got was a Komodo Dragon. If I tried longer it may have worked, but I don't think it would. I only did it after reading a book about dragons." Tabitha really liked telling stories, which was part of why she planned on being an author in the future. She could write her own biography and it'd be published as fictional because of the abilities.
