Eric nodded his agreement with the other two's statements about devolution. While he was relieved to see that the lab was nearby, the trainer practically had a heart attack when he saw the thing Cooper called a "Poketime". The most advanced equipment Eric was carrying around was a Pokegear he had picked up years ago. Aside from that and some maps of the other regions he had visited, he didn't really have anything. "Cooper, what is that thing you were just talking to?"

Hanoashi smiled. "I just prefer using standard old paper maps, the compass, and my wind up radio. Nothing beats using the older, more traditional technologies in my mind, though that's just my opinion." She stated, taking out her compass as an example. "Still, that Poketime of your's has some pretty amazing features," she added.

(Sorry for the little poof.)
Eric chuckled along with Cooper, shaking his head and taking another drag. "All I've got is my old Pokegear from when I started as a trainer. It's hardly good for anything anymore." He looked closely at the Poketime, cigarette hanging from his lips. "I've got a couple maps in my bag, but I don't even have a pokedex." It wasn't like he'd never seen a pokedex, he just never got one. Once he started catching pokemon he stopped caring much about having anything besides maps and pokeballs really. "If I had known how skilled the trainers around here are I would've brought more than just three pokemon."

After nodding in agreement, the clearly-unprepared trainer followed Cooper in the direction of the lab. "I don't think I could ask for something like that, but a map of this region would be pretty nice. I should stop in at the nearest town and stock up a bit." He said nothing about transferring more of his pokemon over to the lab. It was a good idea, but Eric thought it would be best to come back and do that some time when the others weren't around. After all, since they were all trainers they were technically all his competition. Except Andres. He would need to gain at least a few more badges before trying to take down someone skilled and powerful enough to have been a champion. "So what are you guys planning to do as trainers?" Most of the other trainers Eric had come across wouldn't stop spouting off about their dreams of becoming gym leaders and the like, but these kids seemed a bit different. Flicking away his cigarette, it wasn't long before another found its way to his lips and he grabbed his lighter.

It seemed the trainers around here really were something special. "I think I'd like to be a Champion," Eric took a long a drag and held it in his lungs for a moment before he let the smoke out from his nose. "I used to be a pokemon hunter though...well, poacher really." Most people weren't fond of poachers to say the least, but there wasn't really anything they could do about it. Besides, Eric had given that up years ago. "The money was great, but I got involved with the wrong people. In the end, I got into more than a little bit of trouble for it." His hands shook slightly as he thought back to what his life used to be like, another drag from his cigarette helped calm him down. "After all that unpleasantness, I decided to try my hand at being a trainer."

"Honestly, I just wanna fight," Hanoashi admitted. "You know, get stronger and grow as a person. Though I also want to grow closer to my Pokemon in the process, and to bring the best I can out of them, both on and off the battle field," She added. Truth be told she never had the drive to aim for Pokemon league champion or gymn leader status, rather she wanted to see how far she could reach.

Hanoashi's goals seemed much simpler than those of the rest of the trainers, but that wasn't necessarily a bad thing. "You've got a point there Hanoashi." Eric smiled at the younger trainer, "I guess that's really the whole point behind being a trainer after all. Titles and positions don't mean anything if you just give up after you get there." He flicked away his cigarette, before checking to see how many were left. Not enough for another just yet.

Andres followed along quietly, listening to the others talked while his team followed. Then he spoke up in a lull of the conversation. "I personally believe in one thing: A trainer should not make his or her Pokemon do something the trainer is not willing to do. That's why, whenever my team trains, i'm there with them. I'll gladly take a few punches from my team if it means we grow stronger and closer." He explained, smiling.

Andres' training certainly wasn't something that most trainers would do, but it didn't sound like the worst idea. After all, one of the most important aspects of improving as a trainer is strengthening the relationship and trust between trainer and pokemon. "Is that how you came to be a Champion?" Eric asked with a grin, he couldn't remember the last trainer he had met who wasn't afraid of taking a punch or two himself.

Andres nodded with a smile. "Cynthia's no pushover, especially that Garchomp of hers. But together, my team and I won, because of the bonds we share. I'll put my life on the line to keep them safe. And I'll gladly throw a few punches to do so." He chuckled. If only they knew the truth about him.

Eric grinned over at Andres, a strange look in his eye as he did so. "Yeah, I'd say the same." In the time before Eric had become a more legitimate "trainer", throwing punches was something he was rather familiar with. He had realized at a young age that if you wanted someone's pokemon, it was usually much easier to beat the trainer than the pokemon. "Any plans for a comeback?"

"I'll rechallenge Cynthia eventually. Right now I wanna travel the wide world of Pokemon with my team beside me." Andres looked to the sky. "Feel the wind in my hair, and all that."

"Must be nice to take a bit of a break." Eric had given up on waiting and lit another cigarette. "I'm only really out here to try and start over. Like I said before I got myself into a bit of a mess back home, so I've been travelling around ever since." Travelling certainly wasn't all bad. He had met many trainers, caught plenty of new pokemon, and honed his skills in various gyms. That having been said, he still couldn't really go back home.

Eric sighed softly as he thought back on his home. After spending a bit of time reminiscing in silence, the man was brought back to reality by a bit of ash being taken from his cigarette by the wind and landing on his shirt. Brushing it off, he turned his head over his shoulder to face the rest of the small group. "So what about you guys? Where are you from, what have you done? Any stories you wouldn't mind sharing?" Travelling in a group wasn't something this poacher-turned-trainer had done recently, but he did remember that talking always helped pass the time.

Eric rubbed the back of his neck as he laughed a bit loudly at Cooper's story. "Yeah, I could see how she might have been a bit upset about that." He thought back on his past, trying to determine what was worth sharing with the others and what he should just keep to himself. "I remember getting my Gengar back when I was probably a couple years younger than you." He ashed his cigarette before continuing. "You see, I grew up in Pallet Town. I had just decided to try my hand at being a pokemon hunter, but it was really hard to catch pokemon without any of my own. So when the kid across the street from me was given a Gengar by his older sister, I figured I could convince him to trade it for something." Eric shook his head as he thought back on how foolish he had been. "Obviously he didn't want to give it up no matter what I offered. So I told him I'd fight him for it..." Reaching down to his waist, the trainer grabbed his Gengar's pokeball from his belt. "And that's how I got this guy. Of course it took me forever to convince him to listen to me, but I like to think it was worth it in the end."

Andres listened along for awhile, musing to himself. This certainly was a varied bunch he fell in with. He glanced at Luke. The aura jackal nodded, understanding what his trainer was asking. "I have a story to tell... Have any of you heard of Team Galactic?"

Hanoashi frowned. "Wasp was kinda of an orphan really," she began. "Team rocket had destroyed a small forest way back in Kanto, and was finishing up their work when I noticed him laying right in the path of a bulldozer. I leaped in and saved him, but team rocket got mad because they knew I had saw what they had done. It was at that time two Beedrill came up and defended me and wasp, giving us enough time to escape." She paused, breathing a bit heavily at the memory. "I...I'm almost certain one of them pointed at Wasp then at me before nodding to my house, almost as if saying to care for him in their stead." She added.

Hanoashi sighed. "It was. Especially after dad found out. Our entire family moved to this region because of that," She admitted, holding Wasp's Pokeball in her hand before smiling. "But We've made it though it all together," she added, a bit more cheerful, even though the memory of her holding a crying Kahuna pierced her heart. I didn't even know they could cry, she remembered her surprised reaction, before cuddling it, it's cries of fear beginning to wain.

Hanoashi smiled back at Cooper, but kept quiet for a bit, gazing at where the boy had gestured. "That would definitely prove useful for the professor, having all that room." She commented. "I'm guessing you mean it's about one to two miles away?" she guessed, trying to gauge the distance with his estimation of how long it;d take them to arrive.
