(Sounds good)
Gus hadn't really talked to many people. It was odd for him. He was normally a social butterfly when it came to others his age. When he was with his parents, that was a different story. He just couldn't seem to relate to them and their snobby friends. His parents always sent him to environments that fostered that attitude. His expensive boarding schools, the most expensive summer camps, even his barn was top notch and filled with kids who had more money than they knew how to handle. Gus knew how to pick out the people that differed from that. He wanted friends that he actually liked, not because they had the same amount of money as him. So he had kept an eye on the student body as he moved through his day. He silently picked out the people worth talking to.
When he wasn't forced to be with students, he was with Cupid. Usually just hanging out. The gelding seemed to appreciate the carrots and apples and mints that Gus shared with him. At the moment, Gus was sitting on the ground, legs stretched out, and leaning back against a stall door across the aisle from the saddlebred. He played absentmindedly with the drawstrings hanging from his All Star Stables hoodie. "I just don't know what to do, bud. I wanna make friends, but I don't want to become friends with people like the ones back home. You know what I mean," Gus said. Cupid chewed some hay, looking like he was nodding, though Gus knew the horse didn't understand what he was saying. "I'm just out of my element here and it's odd. I don't like feeling uncomfortable," he said. Cupid lowered his head to pick a few pieces of hay from the ground. Gus sighed, wishing his horse could actually talk to him and give him advice.

Ashton arrived at the barn, and she walked down to where her stallion was. She didn't seem to notice the boy sitting across from a stall four stalls down from her own horse. She walked up to Fallen and said,"Hey, boy. Guess what I managed to sneak from breakfast?" She slid her hand into her pants pocket and grabbed some sugar cubes. She held her hand out to the horse and smiled as he licked them up. She giggled and petted the black thoroughbred who was nudging her shoulders, seemingly wanting more treats. "I'm sorry, Fallen, but that's all I have." Her stallion snorted, seeming to be upset for her to not have more than a few cubes for him. She chuckled and said,"Stop being so spoiled, you." Fallen rolled his eyes and moved away from the stall door, making a big scene about not getting fed more. She rolled her own eyes and turned to sit against Fallen's door. That's when she spotted the other boy. "Oh, hello there. I didn't see you there. I'm sorry if I seemed to ignore you. I just wanted to see Fallen for a little while." She sat down gracefully, but she slouched against the door with her legs loosely crossed, which seemed opposite of her upbringing, but the boy wouldn't know she was a Richie by looking at her.

When Gus heard the voice of a girl, he shut up. No need to share his problems with some stranger. Even as he saw her, Gus loathed his inability to read her. He hadn't ever been a master at reading people, but he'd definitely improved in the past few years. He considered it a necessity if he wanted to set himself up with the right people. His father agreed. Gus had a different idea of the 'right people' than his father.
"No problem. I'm used to being ignored," Gus said, a small smile tugging at the corner of his lips. That wasn't true. He found himself noticed often and in the company of a diverse group of people often. He didn't mean to lie to her, it was more of a joke. Gus just didn't have the best sense of humor. "I'm just here to visit Cupid." He pointed at the gelding in the stall across the aisle. "Valentino Buchanan, but most people call me Gus," he said. It was just a habit, almost an instinct, to introduce himself by his full name. Back home, many people would then recognize him as the son of August Buchanan, and would greet him warmly. Gus wasn't sure why his father seemed to have so many friends. He suspected it had to do with his wallet rather than his warm and loving personality. August Buchanan wasn't exactly a warm and loving person. He really needed to get out of that habit. What kind of name was Valentino anyway? Gus was better. That's why he had made it his nickname, after his middle name of Augustus.

Ashton nodded. "Nice to meet you, Gus. I'm Ashton Kloepfer. No nicknames or anything. Just Ashton." She half-shrugged. Her parents were both CEOs of very popular, expensive companies that had exotic names. In fact, before she was sent to this school, she was home alone with a nanny and her younger brother with a nanny. Her parents were always on business trips and overseas, so she didn't have a good concept of a functional normal family, which she hated. She wanted to know what a normal family was, but she never would. She sighed to herself, almost completely unseeable. She was good with hiding emotions and body movement due to her style of riding. She was very serious about her riding and focused on it 100% with, ya know, school on the side. She didn't worrying bout school since she was a quick and easy learner. She glanced up as Fallen stuck his head out of his stall again.

"That's nice. You weren't stuck with some long name that makes you stand out," Gus said. He seemed to have a major problem with his name. "I guess my dad likes to make his kids stand out. My sister is Felicity Adelaide. Not super weird, I guess, but she never had to share her name like all the girls names Michaela or Emma," Gus said, almost as if he was just talking at this point. "I'm sorry, I just tend to get carried away on topics of no relevance or importance," he said. It was something Gus had picked up on after being dragged to hundreds of ceremonies and dinners and parties. All the adults seemed to blabber on and on absentmindedly until little Gus would get bored and wander away. If only he had managed to pick up on skills that actually benefited him.
"So, what do you ride?" He asked, assuming it was English since she was visiting a horse in this barn. This was a topic that they'd both have an interest in. Since his older sister had lost interest in horses, Gus had nobody to share his hobby with. Unfortunately he hadn't come across many saddle seats riders. Even riders of different disciplines could still bond over the core skills and passion it room to succeed in any part of the sport.

Ashton smiled over at him as he apologized for ranting, one of her dimples showing. " No, no. It's fine. I have a weird name, but it's not long like you pointed out. My name does make me stand out because when you hear the name 'Ashton' I bet you think of a guy or something." She half-shrugged as she raised a questioning eyebrow at him. "It's fine if you do. I've had many people awkwardly ask me if my name was Ashton because they thought I was a guy." She shrugged fully now. "It doesn't really matter." When Gus shifted the conversation to what she rode, she smiled brightly, showing off both dimples. "I ride Stadium Jumping as Primary, but Eventing is my Secondary. Then, I have a Western elective because I wanted to see how Western riding was." She paused for a moment before asking,"And you? What do you ride?"

Most of Gus' friends just kinda tuned him out when he kept going on and on about something stupid like that, so it was nice to talk to somebody that didn't. "Yeah. I used to have a friend with the name Ashton. And he was a guy. I think he moved to, like, Hawaii with his parents or something. I don't know. His dad's a professional baseball player," Gus said, shrugging.
"I ride saddle seat," he began, "I always have. My secondary is dressage. My elective is western because I've always been a bit interested in that," he said. He paused for a second. For once, he actually thought of his words before he spoke. "I want to jump. It just looks so exhilarating and fun." He paused again. "But I'm scared." That wasn't something Gus admitted often, especially not to strangers, but it wasn't like he was admitting something deep and personal. It was just his conflicting thoughts about a certain activity. "I plan on taking up jumping sometime, but I keep pushing it off because I'm nervous," he said. At one point, he'd be afraid of losing Cupid if he switched disciplines, but he knew he'd be able to convince his dad to let him keep Cupid and get a jumper.

"Reining," Gus said, "I'm all for fast paced stuff so I thought it looked kinda cool," he half shrugged at his answer. "I'm definitely and English guy at heart though," he said. He shifted his weight a bit, though the barn aisle was surprisingly comfy. He listened to her talk, glad he was finally getting out and having a conversation with someone.
"I'll take you up on that offer sometime," he said. And he really wanted to. Jumping had been a dream of his, though he always found reasons to push it off due to fear. "And in return, you can try Cupid sometime. Just warning you, he's a natural born saddle seat horse," he said. He didn't think she'd have trouble handling him. In fact, most of the students here would probably have no problem handling his horse. It's just that horses like Cupid had a different feeling than others. "As long as you remember to keep your legs out of his sides," he said, his lips twitching into a smile.
(Gus is making me miss saddle seat a bit)

I haven't really ridden horses except for trail rides at my Uncle's ranch, but I want to ride so bad. I know all of this knowledge of horses and the stuff they do by reading books about them for my whole life, basically. )
Ashton nodded. "Saddle seat sounds interesting, I guess. I like the technical stuff, though. Jumping and Eventing seems easy enough, but in reality, it's all so technical, and it makes you focus on your actions more. That's why I'm an English girl. Though, my parents pushed the envelope when I told them I wanted to horseback ride. They think Western is stupid and messy, which it isn't. It's laid back most of the time, but there are some technical things to Western as well." She sighed and looked off into the distance, seemingly saddened by bringing up her parents. Even though she didn't really bond with them, they did have a long talk about her horseback riding when she started out at 6 years old. They wanted her to do English since it was more proper and all that. She blinked, getting herself out of her mind and turned back to Gus. "I might try Saddle Seat one day. I just don't know too much about it. Maybe you could help me learn about it." She half-shrugged, still seeming kind of sad even though she acted happy in that moment.

"I like saddle seat for kinda the same reason," Gus began, "There's so much that goes into it and you're thinking about and doing all these little things, but the finished product looks so clean and easy." He thought videos he had seen of himself and friends as well as national champions and upper levels competitors. "Especially because in a lot of classes, it's just going around the ring, so people think you're just sitting up there. At least in jumping, people can see the thought that goes into like knowing your course and stuff," he said. He thought about what his parents and friends would think about him riding and respecting western. He hated it, but a lot of them thought they were above western because it was easy and didn't even look tough. Gus knew better. He knew those riders worked just as hard as him. "I'll tell ya what, if you help me jump, I'll help you ride saddle seat," he suggested. He stuck out a hand towards her. "Deal?"
(Most of my riding has been saddle seat and this is my first summer at a different barn and my friends keep sending me pictures and videos from summer camp cause we al used to work there together)
