"A whole new crew? I'm hurt Whetu. Who's to say it won't be you falling for their charm." Xavier raised a brow, he knew how she liked to flirt. He wasn't too worried about the mermaids, but the certainly shouldn't be underestimated. "I think two people should be on guard tonight, to keep each other in check just to be safe." He suggested and glanced out at the water. What if they were under the ship right now, listening. Creepy.
Camilla tossed her blanket on the cot she decided to claim along with her oversized bag. Some of it was medical supples, more so than personal, but she had a few things of her own in there. "Oh how sweet Sonal, you can just say that you'd miss me." She purred sweetly with a shrug even though she was fully aware that was not what she had mean and just warned to tease her. She took the earplugs and pocketed them for later.

After sitting there for an hour or so, his aches now worse, Ryu finally makes his way to the hospital room. He ignores the soreness in his legs and his limp, as his foot fell asleep. His hungry stomach growls as he smells food from the kitchen, but ignores it. He hesitates outside the room, wondering if the doctor is even there, and knocks softly.
-
Iori feels refreshed after the nap she took. She quickly showers and dresses in Royal Guard armor once more. She walks to the armory and takes her sword from its special hiding spot, since she doesn't trust jealous men, and makes her way to the training arena. So far, it's empty, probably since it's lunchtime, but she focuses on practice. She carefully angles her sword and works on her jabs. She does a backwards swing and chops the head off the body-like target. She rolls forward as if dodging a blow, and swipes behind her, hitting the pole holding the target up. She swings around her leg in a high kick. Sudden clapping makes her flinch.
"Brava," says a smirking Kenji. She rolls her eyes. He adds, "Wanna partner?"
They square off. Kenji is eyeing her right side, since she's left-handed. He's got another thing coming! Iori thinks. He, predictably, tries to feint her left side and go for her right. Iori ducks, but he kicks her suddenly. With a flash of pain, she's on the ground, and she rolls away.
Again, they standoff.
She lunges forward, but he blocks her easily and tries to kick her again. She just grabs his leg and throws him on the ground. She waits until he rolls away and he's on guard. He goes at her from the right again, so she spins, landing into his chest and falling over. On the ground, Kenji just stares at her in surprise. She smugly rolls off him. They laugh for a good while.

The moodboard nerd strikes again because I love Kain and I love Whetu and I was bored ![](http://i66.tinypic.com/5ffyqf.png) ![](http://i66.tinypic.com/xkq7ol.png) "I like a pretty face," she admitted in a so-sue-me tone, "But I also like not being eaten alive and torn to shreds by weird fish people. Call me old fashioned, but I find flippers unattractive in a female." She followed his gaze overboard, the water was so very blue today, one nice thing about this awful coast. "And that's a good idea. Volunteering?" Keeping watch on the first day was tiring, the first day of anything was the hardest, and she didn't want to end up forcing anyone to stay up with her. "Miss you like I'd miss a hole in the head." She retorted, folding her blanket up over her arm. She'd nabbed a wooden framed bed earlier, as in the past, hammocks had been quite disastrous for her, and had made it a point to let Whetu know that cloth wasn't enough to hold this woman up. She made it up with her blankets and a small bundle, most travelers had very few possessions and Sonal was no exception: bronze knuckleduster, shot gun and bullets, a compass, a bottle of disinfectant and a pouch of coins, which she preferred to keep on her, and would not be letting out of her sight among this bunch. Camilla had few things too, "Is that all medical supplies?" How many bandages could one woman carry?

Xavier laughed and shrugged. "Fair point, although fins may not be a deal breaker for me." He teased, but like Whetu he was a fan of flirting. However some people he wouldn't touch with a ten foot pole and killer mermaids fit into that catagory, possibly Kain too. Looks weren't everything after all. "Me? Hm I don't have much better to do besides maybe sleep that is. Ah, what the hell sounds exciting." Sleep was important, but he wanted someone trustworthy watching her back, Coran would probably slip and shoot Whetu by accident, for all he knew Kain would push her in. "We might want to split it into shifts though so nobody has to deal with it all night?" He suggested questioningly.
"Ouch Sonal you've hurt my feelings." Camilla pouted and put a hand over her heart as if hurt. "You must admit I can be charming, if not useful." She said and sat cross legged on her cot, the blanket still over her shoulders as she watched Sonal work on perfecting her bed. She wasn't much for hammocks either, they were fun to lounge in but not for sleeping. "Oh all that? Mostly medical stuff, but a girl's gotta have her belongings." She said simply with no explanation as to what her bag contained besides the supplies.

She forced herself to stand straight however, she was the paladin now, second in command. She could not be seen slouching! I had a hard time finding one last good photo for Kain but then I saw U G H and I was like ' p e r f e c t' "I'm basically a professional napper, sleeping in shifts would be ideal." Sea life could really mess with your internal body clock, most seasoned sailors learnt to take a nap whenever they could at an early stage. It had gotten to the point where Whetu found it hard to sleep on land, without the gentle sway of the boat underneath her and the murmur of others sleeping around her. Of course, she remember with a thrill, she'd be without that murmuring this time, because she had the Captain's quarters. "Sun'll be down soon," She noted, watching it peek to the west, a cooler breeze shifting through the crew, "And that means it's time for food." "There is no place for charm at sea." Was all she replied with, most people who were 'charming' were little more then excessive talkers, and nothing was worse then speaking when there could be silence. She didn't elaborate what was in her bag, and Sonal thought it best not to ask. It was none of her business. There were several beds lying around, a one smaller (but not by much) one covered in dog hair, which the woman could only assume housed the navigator and his dog, due to the very human pillows and blanket. The ship gave a lilt to the side, they must be mooring for the night. "Well that's day one over." She said, glancing up at the boards above them, "Who knows how many to go."

Haha its sooo perfect I love it so much!)
"Good, I need my sleep too you know." Xavier could go for a day or two with no sleep, but past that sharp senses tended to dull down quite rapidly and he had no interest in starting this journey with no sleep. Going to sea made one adapt in many ways though, including uncomfortable sleep and when days in between land became numerous, it also included rationing food and supplies. Currently they had plenty of food and had only sailed for one day so that problem would be addressed much later. "Good, I'm starving."
Camilla gave her an eye roll and shrugged off her blanket. She pushed her bag under her bed and stood. "So solemn Sonal. You could do with a little positivity you know." Besides Camilla she was pretty sure Coran and Whetu were the only ones who shared her optimism, and probably Xavier as well. Negativity would get them nowhere on an impossible journey such as this and Sonal didn't seem to enjoy anything fun, even as basic as talking. That didn't mean Camilla wouldn't try with her still. "There are probably plenty of days to go. Come on, let's eat." She said and headed up the stairs.

"I hope you like pickled eggs," she smiled over her shoulder as she made her way to the store, "Because they own you now. Your life as you knew it is over." They didn't have a chef yet, which was a shame, because Whetu's cooking skills went as far as toast and porridge. Coran got the boat as close as he dared to a nearby island and hopped over to the contraption that lowered the anchor, still shaking from nerves and embarrassment. He too was hungry, even after his snack in Leibonia, which seemed a very long time ago. Fishing the stolen cutlery out of his bag, he headed down the stairs, Conall looping on ahead, making the stairs shake.
Food was not high on Sonal's wishlist so soon after being ill, but she knew it was stupid to pass up this opportunity. To keep rations lasting as long as they could food was eaten on a strict schedule, she needed to eat now if she wanted anything before morning, "Alright, I'm coming." She set her things down by her bed and headed over to the stairs, pausing briefly to let Camilla take the lead. After being the one to unpack everything, she could guess what they would be having tonight, and was not overly enthusiastic about it. The prospect of asking the doctor for help was unappealing, but being sick again was even more so. "Um," She asked slightly quietly and very awkwardly, "Do you have any more of those um, mint leaves?"

Xavier made a face to demonstrate he most certainly was not fond of pickled eggs and was not looking forward to them. He assumed none of them could cook which was disappointing, he wasn't sure if any of them could make a proper meal. He was taken so young he could barely figure out how to make the simplest of dinners for himself for a long time and now he wasn't even close to a good cook. He followed them both down the stairs, too hungry to miss out on supper. "We need to get some better options here Whetu." He said, only half serious. It wasn't usually possible to have a nice meal out at sea. Kain glanced out at the water as the sun set slowly, making reflections on the waves. It was almost peaceful. He turned and followed the others silently, not excited for the meal either, but unwilling to complain.
Camilla turned and gave her a small smile. "Of course. But I could give you something a little longer lasting so sleep comes easy as well?" She suggested hopefully. She knew Sonal asking for her mint leaves was a stretch and it was unlikely the woman would be interested in any other medicine, but she had plenty just incase and felt the need to offer a better solution. "I promise it won't make you drowsy, only settle the stomach." She added to further sway her.

"Next time we dock, I promise I'll buy only the finest of pickled goods." She said solemnly, hand over her heart. There was a rota pinned to the wall , describing how food should be rationed out to make it last the longest. Whetu had had that list for all of her sailing life, her mother making it for her as she left Manpere, as that old woman knew that if Whetu was to die within the first week it would be due to starvation or a bullet. She couldn't do much about the bullet, but The List had never done this captain wrong. She grabbed a couple of jars and set down at the long wooden table, "Food!" She called, hoping whoever wasn't down yet would hear and come. "We need like, a dinner bell or something." She contemplated, setting the jars down.
"Mint will be fine, I don't like things that mess your senses." A close run in with something in her drink as a young girl made Sonal cagey around even the slightest of tranquilizers. When she'd broken her leg she'd had to be pinned down to get her sedation, and when she woke, was basically chased out of the doctor's for the damage she'd inflicted to surrounding furniture and people. The deck was clear, so she headed straight down to where the store and small mess-hall was. The navigator followed them nervously, clutching armfuls of forks and cups. He still had dog sick on his shoe, but she was sure he already knew that and decided not to point it out. "Ugh, I can smell those eggs from here." She grumbled darkly, big nose scrunching in distaste.

"Good." Xavier feigned satisfaction although it was evident pickled goods were far from what he considered to be a satisfying meal. He sat down at the bench and grabbed his portion, still dissatisfied, but it was clear he had no other option. Kain studied the rations on the wall and arched a brow in Whetu's direction. "You made this?" He asked. If didn't seem much like their impulsive captain to work out their portions, she was more of a lady of action. The only other person on board who handled the supplies was Sonal who loaded them, but Whetu had mentioned she wasn't able to write.
"Alright, understandable. I'll just give you some extra after dinner just in case." Camilla said cheerfully and pulled a mesh sack of mint leaves from her pocket, pre-prepared for those who were not fond of the rocking motion the sea created. She glanced at Coran carrying the utensils and held in a laugh. "Need some help?" She asked him. Like Sonal she wasn't looking forward to her meal, but the girl could eat just about anything and had never been picky so she was in no mood to complain.

"My mother." Whetu beamed proudly, opening up a cupboard, selecting some slated meats and a few steel cups for water. "She drew that up for me, what," She blew heavily through her mouth thinking, "Seven years ago?" Coming over to the table, she set the stuff down and looked around, hands on hips, for forks. Where had she put the forks? "Very astute woman, too shrewd for her own good. I keep it around now as a keepsake, but it comes in handy. Got every food and unit on it you can think of." She admitted, glancing over at it. Her mother's writing had faded somewhat, and Whetu had gone over it, carefully retracing her mother's angular penmanship, not wanting to erase any memory of her. The captain could have a hundred flings, drink in every tavern, kill a thousand men, but she was a mama's girl and even pirates missed their mothers.
"Thank you." She dipped her head a little when she came into the room, curse these low doors. Xaiver and Whetu were already there, and the food was out, a typical sailor's dinner. "Where's Kale?" She asked, unsure of whether or not the pale man would melt out of the shadows or if no one had told him about dinner. Not that she was eager to see him, creepy guy, but if they were all to pull their weight, they needed a decent meal in them. Coran shook his head at Camilla's offer, "No, but I have some cute cups in my pocket, if you want a nice one instead of those awful steel tankards." He whispered. The doctor seemed friendly, she hadn't glared at him once, and she seemed like the kind of gal who liked the occasional dainty thing. If any of them were getting a nice cup, he figured it would be her. Conall had gone up ahead into the dinning hall, and had taken his place under the table, soaking up any leg room there had been before. Whetu was looking for something, and Coran would've bet his right arm it was for forks.

Iori stretched as she headed into the great outdoors, yawning and shielding her eyes from the bright light. She loved the ocean breeze that washed over her, momentary relief from the pounding heat of the sun. She wished she could take some time off, and sail out on the waves, maybe even finally looking for her idiot brother. She shoved the thought of him out of her mind as she saw someone standing at the water's edge, and could tell right away it was a woman. She recognized her but couldn't quite think of her name. It was on the tip of her tongue…
She bounded forward, hopeful for someone interesting to talk to. "Hi there!" She said cheerily.

She turned at the voice, and recognized a fellow guard, though she wasn't in her uniform. Must've gotten an early shift. She squinted slightly in the dying light, "Hello." Conversation was difficult when you didn't really know the person that well, that was for sure. "Nice evening, isn't it?" She tired, struggling to place a name. She felt a little embarrassed, so proud to have been promoted and unable to remember her peer's name. Something short? She was halfway confident it began with a vowel.

She studied the horizon, struck by the beauty of the evanescing sunset. "Sure is," Iori said awkwardly. How on Earth could she not remember a Paladin's name?! Although, she must be a new one, since she seemed nervous, and kept slouching. It was a bit funny, actually. "I'm Iori by the way. I've seen you around, haven't I? Hard to miss a fellow female among all these hotheads." Iori laughed at her own comment.

Kain nodded slightly, it made sense, a mother would do what she could for her child and with Whetu away at sea he was sure her mother had wanted to help in whatever way she could. Kain might have felt a pang of longing for his own mother, but it had been years since he saw a family and felt sick with sadness for their memory. He had been alone long enough to not feel anything, but it didn't mean he didn't still remember them and inklings of what it was like to have parents and his twin sister. If he didn't remember them nobody would. He wondered then if Whetu's mother was alive or if that poster and Whetu were the only ones keeping her memory alive. "It's well organized, especially considering you couldn't care to remember forks." He commented, unable to complement the chart without insulting as well, then glanced at Coran who had stashed some at the diner.
"Ooh yes that would be wonderful." Camilla smiled and whispered back. Of course she would take a fancier cup over the gross and generic steel ones. She didn't need anything special, but hey if it was being offered she wouldn't be one to refuse. She decidedly liked Coran despite his mistake earlier, he seemed out of place here, but then again they were all misfits and he seemed to have a good heart unlike most pirates she had met, or men in general although she didn't want to throw them all in a negative box. She gave a confused look in Sonal's direction. "Kale? I don't think we brought any kale, that's perishable."

It's alright Nyctea! Was Hong Kong fun? ahh ty <3 )
"Chrysanta." She stuck out her hand in greeting, relieved to be lifted from the burden of having to guess this woman's name. In response to her comment, she shrugged a little, "I suppose.Sometimes I find it easier to remember traits then names." This was usually how she sorted her peers: sword fighters, hand-to-hand combatants, explosion experts, the like. If she wasn't mistaken, this girl was a sword fighter, like herself. It was the go-to after all. "Quit today?" She asked, in reference to the busy streets which were gradually dying.
She paused and then smacked her forehead, "Dammit! I could've sworn I.." She stopped looking around, realizing that they had totally slipped her mind, "I hope you don't mind eating pickled eggs with your fingers." Though that was pretty gross. The slimy, pale eggs in their jars were unappetizing, and they increased in that aspect considerably once they were on a plate and were free to roll around. Still, it wasn't like her crew were used to being fed off of silver spoons, though they probably had been expecting spoons of some kind. Now she really wished they had a cook, someone she could blame for this. She had a tiny little dagger she carried around for just-in-case situations, so at least there was that, but there'd been too much blood on it in the past for her to eat with it with a sound mind.
Equally as confused as Camilla now, Sonal tilted her head and said the word again, as if it would make things clearer, "No, Kale. Where is Kale?" Coran scooped a cup out of his pocket and passed it to the doctor, before scurrying forward to the table and dropping the stolen knives and forks in the middle, eager for a chance to redeem himself from the earlier blunder, "Would anyone like a fork?" He asked, a little breathless, as he often got when hurrying. The little cafe he'd eaten in was for working class people, but had tried to better itself with little things like fish knives and side plates, all of which were now aboard the Blackguard, and very out of place among the steel cups and wooden table.

"Kale? What do you mean?" Camilla asked with exasperation as she grew slightly frustrated. Xavier, sho had been listening quietly suddenly burst out laughing. "This is a mess. She means Kain." He offered having figured Sonal's mistake moments before while Whetu was scrambling to find non existent forks. He found the whole situation to be fairly amusing, even the predicament of eating pickled eggs with no utensil. Coran's offer of forks put a wide grin on his face "well well well I guess you can do something right Navigator."
Kain had remained leaning against the wall of the ship, arms crossed as he watched the disorganization unfold before him. It was honestly fairly amusing. Upon hearing his name Kain's head snapped towards Sonal and Camilla with a glare. Kale? Was this woman stupid. What kind of a name was that. "it's Kain." He said icily and snatched a fork from Coran's hand as he passed by to sit on the bench. He didn't like having his name mistaken for something he found to be foolish, she would do well to remember it next time.

I'll follow u back rn ;D )
Whetu blinked as forks simply appeared, and nodding, as if to confirm that yes, there were now forks. She was the greatest captain ever, these things just materialized! Taking her seat, she listened to the exchange and snorted into her tankard of water, ignoring the metallic tang in left in her mouth (Camilla had a cup, where on earth had she gotten that cup?). Kain looked less then pleased, though that wasn't too out of the ordinary, "I don't know Kain, I think it has a ring to it. Kale is very notorious," she stabbed an egg, "There are worse things to be associated with." Sonal just blinked before sitting down (gently, as not to shake the bench) and grabbing her share. Kale, Kain, whatever. It was a stupid name either way, though she held on to that remark, "Words are not easy and those ones sound very similar." Was all she offered as way of an excuse or apology.
Coran knew that one day he would have to die, but he'd rather it was not right here and right now, so he did his best to smoother his giggles, turning his face away, before Kain let the blood out of everyone's throat. When he laughed, there was an odd whistle, as wind blew out between the gap in his teeth, so it was pretty hard to disguise however. He was pleased that everyone helped themselves to some cutlery, glad to contribute positively. At Xavier's remark, he blushed a little, but decided to try and take it like a grownup, "Don't get used to it." He joked, wincing a little, "I just really hate eating food with my hands." It was an old habit that came with him from Pluid Bria, where a lot of the fresh food was straight out of the earth, and usually came covered in soil. Coran did not like soil.

Kain scowled deeply and stabbed at his egg. Who were they to critique or ridicule his name? If was four letters and possibly the most smile out of them all, this crew was hopelessly dim if they couldn't remember it. "It's Kain. You'd better figure it out then, I'm sure you can find a way to remember it." He said coldly back to Sonal. He avoided ridiculing her for being illiterate, that was her secret Whetu probably shouldn't have shared and he surprisingly wasn't one to make fun of someone's difficulties. Kain had other means of belittling others. He chose to ignore Whetu's added teasing, it would do him no use to lose his temper on the captain after the first day on something so simple, plus he wasn't one to blow up.
Camilla happily sipped out of the nicer cup, little things sometimes made all the difference and her cup was something she would hold onto as the traveled. She decided if given the chance she would be happy to repay Coran somehow. Xavier snorted and gave a shrug of his shoulders, his long arms extended slightly. "Alright, but you get props for this one." He said with a playful gleam in his golden eyes. He was now fairly positive he could make Coran squirm, that kid got uncomfortable by just about anything and if he didn't he was whiney back or gave attitude all of which were amusing.

"I'll do my best." Was basically her way of saying 'no promises'. Kain was creepy, yes, but Sonal didn't find herself scared of him. Lat Sanang alleyways were full of men like him, with far darker intentions, and she'd been sailing for longer then she hadn't at this point. He was just another pale man with a knife to her. Whetu smiled, not oblivious to the tensioning air, but choosing the ignore it, things like this had a way of diffusing on their own, "We shall all endeavour to remember your name correctly, Kain." (the temptation to call him Kale at that point was overwhelming, but the gods smiled on Whetu for some reason and she managed to bottle it.) "Alright, now everyone shut up and eat your dinner." Were they not hungry? The last thing she'd had was a tear of Xavier's crepe, and that was hours ago. Just thinking about it made her more ravenous.
Coran fed Conall some of his meat, the dog didn't like eggs and Coran didn't like salty things, so it was a good deal. Conall's huge mouth appeared only momentarily at the edge of the table, like a shark's fin(only much hairier), before disappearing down again. He wasn't sure what to say to Xavier, this was the most they'd spoken so far, so he just nodded demurely and repeated, "Ok, I get props." Still blushing, and wiping his hand on his ratty jacket to get dog slobber off of it. Xavier seemed nice enough, but he'd been tricked by nice eyes and a white toothed-grin before, actually he'd been tricked several times by attractive boys with malicious intent. You'd think he'd have gotten good at spotting it by now, by he didn't like to think poorly of anyone, and was as blind to it as ever

Kain rolled his blue eyes with irritation, but was obviously done with the argument at this point, he had no intentions of furthering it since he would get nowhere with these people. He ate silently and kept a straight face even though he really disliked pickled eggs. The meat was alright, a little salty. He was very used to eating whatever he could find whether or not it tasted good, he had spent his childhood eating what he could to survive whether or not it tasted horrible was always irrelevant. Even if this meal had been the most delicious food he had ever encountered, Kain probably would have kept the same unamused expression, he had a strong poker face and it was nearly impossible to read his true feelings on anything.
Camilla cut a piece of her meat and held it under the table for Conall as well, she liked animals and this dog was friendly. She was sure Coran wouldn't mind if she gave his dog a little more. Xavier began to cut into his meat, still grinning slightly with amusement. At least Coran was interesting, maybe even cute in a nerdy and quirky way. He wasn't excited for the meal, but he wasn't a picky eater and was famished from only having a crepe much earlier in the day. He also didn't want to be stuck feeling hungry on watch that night.

Whetu ate like she'd never eaten food before, but that was perfectly natural, she was just a loud, messy person in general. She was glad they could eat in a halfway comfortable silence, she'd been in crews where you couldn't be around them for five minutes without all hell being lose. Back in Whayvania, meals had been very communal, usually eaten outside with most of her village, and she was glad to have that back again. The fact that it was on her ship with her crew made it even better. Thinking of home reminded her of a little traditional she'd forgotten in the haste to eat, and she nearly choked on her food (her mother would kill her if she knew, a very holy woman), "Should we like, leave a tribute to the gods?" She asked, remembering how it had been customary back home, "You know, considering how we're all after something they made and all that."
Conall snuffled up the meat so quickly it didn't even hit the sides of his mouth. The big dog decided he now liked Camilla the best, and preceded to rest his big face on her feet. Coran smiled a little, dog people were people you could trust. Cat people were far too shifty. At Whetu's question, he felt a little ashamed to have also forgotten, a day hadn't gone by in Pluid Bria without some kind of offering or prayer (then again, people who lived there were simply happy to be alive. They didn't have much going for them.) Sonal, superstitious beyond belief, just kept eating and nodded, "That is probably a good idea." She would've been more spooked at having to forgotten to say something earlier, if that was how she did things. The Kapoors always left some food on their plates and said a few words at the end, so her conscious was clear.

Kain was near done with his meal when Whetu suggested a tribute to the gods. The gods had never done anything for him, all they did was take, it wasn't that he didn't believe in them, he just didn't think they listened anymore. He had no comment, but if everyone wanted to leave a tribute then he would comply, no sense in giving the ship bad luck if that was something they all believed deeply in. Kain could not and would not bring himself to rely on the gods favor for anything anymore, the only one who maybe still watched him with any interest or care was the god of death. That god most likely favored Kain. His only reply was a slight shrug, his jaw tightened slightly, but not by a noticeable degree unless one was paying attention.
Camilla, thrilled, bent to scratch his soft ears. He needed a bath, but that didn't bother her. She had a few bites left when Whetu mentioned a tribute and she flushed a little with embarrassment. How could she forget? That was shameful, but luckily she had enough left on her plate to make a tribute. "Yes, we should." She almost made an excuse for their forgetfulness, something about warm weather and the first day on the sea, but decided excuses were probably just as offensive to the gods as not giving a proper tribute. Xavier nodded a little, although he wasn't sure how much they would enjoy picked egg leftovers. He was fairly certain they would be happier without them.
