Sonal was about four steps when she realised Ralif wasn't right behind her. That man." She cursed very quietly under her breath and began inching back the way she'd came. He was still talking, which was good, couldn't talk if you're dead. Unfortunately, it was what he was saying that she giving her palpitations. That MAN. Was he so eager for death? She still had her shotgun, at least, and she was now behind the Harpy, even those four eyes couldn't see through the back of its own head. Herschel was also a little too busy focusing on what Ralif was saying to think about the fact that there was one less human now. They didn't really care. What the masked man was saying was almost funny enough for him to laugh, something that hadn't happened in a while. But Ralif was bringing their prized possessions into this and and that was no laughing matter. The harpy no longer hunched over and drew itself up to full height, "Why do humans' tongues work faster then their brains?" They asked slowly, dripping with malice. "What is it in your breeding that makes you actively seek danger?" Herschel picked forward slowly, one dappled arms in front of the other, "I'll admit it, I'm almost impressed by your foolhardiness, but as for your question, it would take double what this pathetic island could offer to kill me. I've been taking children for years, and these people just accept it. This island is mine." But in his arrogance and complacence, Herschel had never bothered to check on town, and had no idea that the Royal Guard was currently docked here. Now, there was a force that could drive a monster even deeper into the wild.
"No more scoffing or rolling of eyes, either of you." She took on a nearly maternal tone, meeting the gaze of each man individually. "See you back at the ship." Whetu was off. Almost. She hadn't gotten so much as two steps when Iratus crashed thought the bush. The world went very quiet, and all she could really hear was the blood in her ears. She had to focus but all she could think of was- FIRE. SMOKE. DARK METAL. TASTING BLOOD. THE CRACK OF THE WHIP. He scared her. It felt nice to admit to herself, but it brought little comfort now that he was here. She was no wintry woman, but he was easily twice her size, he'd even give Sonal a run for her money. She'd forgotten how big he was. But she had to regain control, had to claw back the power he was trying to take from her, "Ah, Heath." She spread open her arms as if waiting for a hug, "It's good to see you again." Her voice was strangely level, she had expected shaking. "Is your sister still a timid, yet generous, lover?" If they were playing this game, they were playing it her way. How many guards had he with him? Quick count: eleven. Not a bad guess after all. They could handle eleven.
Chrysanta stopped next to her captain, eyes flicking over Cynwrig before turning to her companions. Xavier and Aster: the intell had been right then. Those two would swing with their captain, doubtlessly. There was another with them, who she didn't recognize. He didn't look very much like a criminal, too soft, and far too frightened. Didn't even have a shirt and shoes. She wanted to jump in, to say something sharp herself, but she knew that this wasn't her moment, and that it was her job to be ready to strike. She held up her right hand as a signal to the soldiers behind her, they had to be ready to move. Hopefully Soren would have looped around backwards and would be close to the water now. When these rogues were boxed in, they were done for.
"Great." He sighed, relieved, "Oh, yeah, good idea." Coran nodded, before hurriedly scooping up the dry bush and tumble weeks at his feet. It was getting his clothes both sweaty and dusty, but that wasn't important right now. His friends needed him and Camilla, and they had to be smart. That's what they were there for after all. The few locals that had been milling about seemed to have vanished, drawn inside by the prospect of trouble, but he wasn't certain they'd get away with just torching a building, "After this," He panted in the hot evening, "You and me are going to be criminals." His voice was lowered, worried, but a little excited, and his eyes flashed behind glass, "They'll have posters of us up all over the empire." He actually giggled at it all, adrenaline making him giddy, before his face went slack, "My mum's going to kill me."

Heath's expression changed a moment, insults were usually useless when thrown against his steel exterior, but Whetu had always known every button to press and just the way to dig her way under his usually thick skin. He clenched his teeth in a smile and snorted. "My sister does not associate with low life criminals such as yourself. She shares a bed with one of the most highly regarded nobles, not the likes of you." He spat back and looked her over. She was incredibly quick witted, it was almost amusing the games they played, if he didn't hate her so much and respect his position in the guard he would certainly call it a game, but he needed to remember she was a mission. "It was all too easy to track you my dear. Maybe consider keeping a more trustworthy crew." He's guested lightly, the same grin still on his lips, but it more closely resembled a wolf baring his teeth before attacking his prey. He gave a wave to his crew, signaling for them to slowly begin to fan out around the group. "What are you after this time Cynwrig? Surely nothing on this godforsaken island." He shook his head slightly in disgusts than shrugged. "I suppose it doesn't matter now. Your little adventure is over." He turned to his crew, but kept Whetu in the corner of his eye. "I want them all alive if possible. I have plans for them once we're back on the mainland." He said the last part when he was facing Whetu again, a fire in his eyes as he allowed her mind to try and conjure up whatever torture he had in store for them. He wasn't one for talking before a fight, if it had been anyone other than Cynwrig his sword had been drawn immediately, but he liked to take his time with her. He turned to Chrysanta, "Take Aster, he's more dangerous." Xavier frowned at this and threw up his hands in protest. "Hey!" He protested, and Kain rolled his eyes with irritation. Iratus ignored him, his paladin could handle them, he was focused on his prey and with the draw of his sword he lunged forward and struck.
Camilla grinned a little and put a hand on her hip. "I mean, we will be arsonists, but I don't think that's the guards main concern on an island like this. Honestly I bet the locals do much worse in a day." She shook her head a little, it gave her the chills just to think about their yellow teeth and deep set eyes watching her and Coran as they strolled threw town earlier. "Don't worry. Your mum won't know because we will be sly criminals. Do I look like someone in the business of getting in trouble." She batted her long lashes at him than stacked the brush on the inside wall of the building, the sooner it caught fire the quicker they could get some of the guards over to them. "Okay I think this will have to do, we don't have much time." She pulled the matchbox out and struck one before tossing it into the pile, then another to ensure the flames got going faster. She waited until they began to reach the wall and climb before she grabbed her bag and Coran's hand and pulled them from the building to the street. "That should do it, the foundation is awful, the whole thing should be in flames soon."

foolish win i never come thru hey Happy!! good to see yah again)
"Pppppfffftttt, Agnes?" She waved a hand dismissively, shaking her head, "I don't know what lies your sister's been telling ya, Heath, but her window is always open. You should take a leaf out of her book, loosen up a bit." She held her tongue at his comment about her crew, she wasn't about to be baited into thinking one of her own had grassed her up. Sailors weren't like soldiers - they knew how unforgiving the sea was, and anyone who could survive on it, was worthy of respect and discrepancy. "I'm after what I'm always after; only a warm bed at night and honest work in the morning." Whetu's face was the picture of innocence, anyone who didn't know her, or couldn't see the cutlass in her hand, may have believed her. All those jittering nerves and old fears that had been flaring up for hours seemed to have died in the actual presence of Iratus, and when he turned his gaze back at her, she met it, unblinking. His little lapdog looked like she could do some damage, but she couldn't worry about Kain right now, or Xavier. They could hold their own, and at least now, they had each other's backs. "Kerro," She hissed down, but didn't follow it up with her eyes, "If you want to run I'd suggest-" But she never got to suggest, because Iratus lunged, and she barely parried it with her own blade. Gods, he was strong. She leaned back under his weight for a few beats before shifting her own weight and sliding out to his left, going in low for his legs.
Chrysanta gave a curt nod, her sword was already in her hand, the weight was a comfort. Aster was a dangerous man, every soul on the force knew that. t least he looked it, Cynwrig was all wordplay and slight of hand, and the lanky Xavier had a similair air. There was nothing jovial about the glare under Aster's gaze, or the shadow that he cast on the ground. At her captain's movements, she shoved her hand forward as the signal to those behind her, and then leaped into the battle herself. She had ot go around the back of Iratus to get to Aster, but it was a short journey on her quick legs. He was taller than her, and his shoulders broader, but that wasn't everything in a fight. She cut a wide arch with her sword, going for his chest. The pirates didn't have the golden armour of the royal guard, and speed didn't mean a whole lot if you're insides were falling out. These pirates were outnumbered, and her peers were closing in form behind.
should Xavier maybe go with Kerro and run into Soren? Or should Random Solider #1 just be created for him to fight with?)

(Ugh, sorry these aren't great. Need to get back in the swing of rping.)
Kerro didn't need much more encouragement after seeing the big man come crashing through the forest. The selkie had been wide-eyed and momentarily frozen with fear at seeing someone so, well, large but the moment steel on steel crashed through his sensitive ears he was off like a gunshot. Fear and adrenaline combined turned the already nimble creature into a lightning bolt shooting through the jungle, ignoring the flora as he sprinted to the shoreline as fast as his legs could carry him. He heard the crack of a musket and barely registered the sting on his back as it grazed his soft skin, so intent on getting to the water and safety that everything else was just a blur. He didn't even know if any of the Royal Guard had broken off to pursue him he was so focused.
"What a pathetic thing to be in possession of." Ralif's tone was dismissive, arrogant even. He'd had enough of this creature speaking down to him, it didn't matter how long in the beak it may have been or just how dangerous it thought itself to be, no one ever had the upper hand on Ralif Silvrig and it was time this scaly winged mop learned its place in the natural order of things. He didn't move his hand, keeping the barrel of his revolver pointed perfectly at the sack of gunpowder on Herschel's books. "But, I'm afraid in even that you are wrong. Surely something so old as you must have had a few run ins with those gold-clad fools of the Royal Guard, no? They're an ancient order after all, might have even killed a couple creatures like yourself." That was an understatement. "Now, would you happen to know who's on Kydos today? I'll give you a hint, the same person who would lead an entire regiment up this mountain if he heard a gunshot and take every last one of your books." Ralif was now trying to look around the harpy, give the wave for Sonal to hurry up and get out of here. This was a standoff if he'd ever been in one, the chance they'd both make it out alive was slim. Best for somebody to live, even if it should've been him. "Now, instead of them paying us a visit, why don't we part as friends? You keep the map and I keep my life."

Heath's stone face met hers, his expression similar to a statue that had been carved by an angry artist. "You are to address me as Captain Iratus (Eye-ray-tus) and nothing else. Must I teach you discipline again Cynwrig? I thought I gave you a good lesson after the fire, but I'll just have to find a better way to implement the rules. I think I have a few ideas." He grinned, his handsome face twisted like when a demon smiled, there was no kindness behind it, only cruelty. He pushed back against her blade with his larger military grade sword and stepped forward. He wouldn't use his full strength and ability, he didn't want the woman dead he wanted to draw out her suffering in all ways possible after the humiliation she had caused him. The woman was an incredible fighter he could not forget, but he was patient and would do whatever it took to see her fall to her knees. His armor had few weak spots which also put him at an advantage, though it allowed him less range of motion than he would like. He had to jumps back to avoid the blade swung at his calves, there was armor, to protect his shins, but every armor had weak points and being a leg down in a fight with Chywrig was not acceptable. His guards knew not to interfere, only be ready if needed, most of them he wanted after the other three, possibly bringing them down would make Whetu surrender. He lunged again, this time in a sweeping motion coming down for he shoulder.
Kain didn't have he same technique as his shipmates. He went for the kill and was a silent and cold thief in the night, not one to get caught, but also not one to allow survivors if someone stumbled upon him. He hadn't always been that way, but it didn't matter, it was the only way he saw now. He didn't joke around in battle besides a few quick witted responses, people said he was inhuman, which he didn't mind the reputation. He hadn't ever personally fought the Captain's second before, but he had seen her around plenty whether or not she saw him. She was good, he had heard of her and how quickly she rose through the ranks, but it was no matter to him. As her blade carved for his chest he rolled backwards quickly and stood, now a few feet away with his sword pulled and a slight smirk on his lips. She was going to have to do much better if she wanted to draw first blood. He had a habit of letting his enemies come for him, countering, then slicing them up rather than being on the offense so he waved his hand and raised an eyebrow for her to approach.

Xavier watched the men take off after Kerro and when the rest of the soldiers came for him and he heard the sharp crack of a gunshot in the jungle, he made a split second decision to pursue the little selkie for back up. It would be a shame to get him into their problems only to have him die. Xavier didn't want that kind of innocent blood on his hands. He tore off after Kerro into the jungle and drew his double pistols from his sides, he had incredible aim even running through a poor visibility jungle, he just hoped he didn't trip or something ridiculous. He sprinted to catch up to the guards after Kerro before the caught him, or the guards behind him also caught up. His eyes fixed on the first soldier in the back of the group and he fired for the back of his knee, a softer spot in the armor that was exposed more easily when the guard was running. He fired, his golden eyes lit with a fire of adrenaline as they always were in a fight and the man dropped quickly with a cry of pain. He jumped over the soldier and continued to run after Kerro and whatever soldiers were still after him.

i have no idea how to rp sword fights omg im making this up as i go along)
"You should know by now," She grunted as his legs slipped out of her reach, "That I never learn anything." Whetu was annoyed at herself for letting a gasp slip out of her when she leaped back as quickly as she could to escape Iratus' sword. It nicked her shirt, revealing a silver of brown flesh underneath, but her shoulder was still fully functional, thankfully, "Except what makes your sister happy, of course. Ironically, it involves a whip." She tilted her head to the side briefly, that lupine grin reemerging before lunging forward to meet his sword again. With a big fighter like Iratus, she'd need to ignore most of her common sense and meet him blade for blade. Playing the defensive wouldn't win her any marks in this fight, he wasn't about to let her go. His armour had weak spots at the joints, they all did, so that's where she aimed her sword; rapid, short jabs to any piece of skin she spotted. He had the unfair advantage of being leagues taller than her, but she could get to his big stupid face if she took care of his ankles. It was odd to be making witty banter in the midst of a battle that she knew could end with her own death, but she was so in the habit of it these days that she couldn't shut it off.
Chrysanta had been baited in fights before, and though it usually ended in her favor, she wasn't so certain in this fight. Aster was wanted for murder, he didn't hold back in fights. Even the way he moved was odd, as if he was playing by different rules than everyone else. So maybe that's why the goad actually ticked her off, because she knew this one had actual leverage. Her face was still a mask of fierce concentration, but her left eyebrows gave a twitch she couldn't hide before she pounced forward, fainting a low sword thrust than switching to high.
That really was news to Herschel. They had no idea that those accursed soldiers were on their land again. Who was in charge these days? Was it still Arkos? No, that was at least sixty years ago. And they were pretty sure Arkos had been killed in the War. Trying to maintain control, they lowered their head a little to meet Ralif's gaze. There was a long, dry pause before they decided what to say next, "You've got nerve, human. I'll give you that. Most humans just start begging after a few threats. Lose their cool." Sonal was at the entrance now, still with gun in hand. It was hard to see Ralif behind the huge creature, but at least there was no blood or blood on the ground, "And I don't need the map." Herschel carried on, giving it a dismissive wave on one hand, "I've seen everything I have to." Their antlers cast unusual shadows on the ground as they titled their head. Was that gunfire? It was distant, surely, and not a rare occasion on this island, but it sounded like a lot of gunfire. So the guards really were here then. It wasn't a bluff. "I think the rest of your 'crew' may have bumped into the guards before I have." They admitted, eyes flicking up towards the sky at the top of the hollow. "You can go, little man. But do not return." It wasn't an easy situation to regain dignity and a sense of arrogance from, but Herschel had been doing this for years, and was well versed in the arts of loaded compliments

(Haha it's ok we will just do what sounds right lol I don't rp them often)
Not much got to Iratus, even the comment from anyone else likely wouldn't have phased him. But Whetu was a scoundrel and her teasing was way too likely knowing her, she was a disgusting seductress. He hated that smile she pulled out as she danced around him with her sword, it was infuriating. He blocked most of her quick strikes, one hit his elbow, drawing some blood but his armor still protected him for the most part and luckily it wasn't his dominant hand. "You little wretch." He growled through gritted teeth, his anger was certainly enough to send any sane person running. "I'm going to cut off your fingers." He threatened. He had plenty of ideas of what to do with her and her crew once captured, some more sadistic than others but all technically within the limits of the law. He swung his sword at her again, first towards her feet than a powerful slash towards her side, he wasn't going for anything lethal, but pain wouldn't kill her probably.
Kain scoffed a little as he dodged most of the blow with a sidestep and forward lunge. The tip of Chrysanta's sword sliced at his chest in a thin line, but Kain was slightly faster and it didn't do more than break skin. He was off to her side now by her sword arm, he grabbed her still outstretched arm and pulled violently to use her momentum to throw her forward as he kicked her knee from behind. She was a good fighter, but he grew up fighting on the streets, he knew how to play dirty.
(Lame posts sorry)

"Dude, I need those." She whispered, using mock horror on her face. Not to use a sword pun here, but she felt like she was getting back into the swing of things now that she was actually facing him; that horrible empty feeling in the pit of her stomach, and the uncontrollable emotions that sprang up seemed to have died down. This was just another fight now. But they needed a way out of here, they need a distraction. When she drew blood, it filled the captain with a warm trickle of confidence. He was only human after all, a big, scary human, but human nonetheless. The top of his blade cut across the top of her boots, and she danced backwards, feeling the sting against the bridge of her toes. It distracted her from the jab to the side, and the warm confidence was replaced with a warm splash of blood. She didn't have time to check if it was deep or serious, but she pressed her left hand into the wound and stepped in closer to Iratus, swinging her sword at the exposed patch on his arm again.
Pain split through Chrysanta's mind when Aster yanked her arm, damn near pulled it clean out of the socket. Now she was determined and annoyed. The kick to her knee sent her to the ground, and she twisted on her knees, the metal padding protecting her from the blunt of the fall and letting her turn quicker. She still had her sword, thankfully she hadn't lost it when she got knocked down, and it made a pleasing metallic whoosh as the paladin sliced through the air with it. She could hear through the clash of metal on metal Cynwrig and her captain talking, but Aster didn't seem like the chatty sort, so she kept her own mouth shut.
Coran nodded, olive eyes flicking over the mess of flames that was gathering size with alarming rate, "Yeah, let's get out of here." He whispered, starting to walk backwards. The heat of the sun was all but gone now, and a cool night breeze was setting in, making the vicious onslaught of the fire seem all the more worse. "Good thing you carry matches. I should start doing that myself." He admitted, nervously jogging away from the scene of the crime, trying not to look too suspicious. It was getting dark now, the fire was easily visible from all over the island. Let it be enough. The guards had duties as well as vengeances, they'd have to get back to check this out. Maybe they hadn't even caught up to the others yet, and Camilla and Coran had just committed a crime for no reason. But he doubted it.

"Then consider it a memento of our friendship." Ralif may not have gotten down everything in his pursuit of a blue-blooded friendship, but he had mastered the scathing condescension so many nobles bore with a honed edge. Truth be told he wanted that map back, but it was far too close to the harpy for him to risk stepping forward and grabbing it. The captain would likely not be happy, but he'd copy the other one the crew had as painstakingly as he could should she ask that of him. He kept his revolver aimed aimed at the small bag of gunpowder as he slowly walked around the harpy and towards Sonal, nodding briefly to the monstrous creature as he began to back out of the cave. The whole time his one eye didn't leave Herschel's four, not wanting to give them the chance to pull something. "You have nothing to worry about in regards to us returning." Once again a backhand of words escaped his mouth, but he and Sonal were almost out of there. By the sound of things they weren't going to be returning to open arms, however. "Let's go."
(*Is totally imagining Herschel and Ralif in another world just roasting people all day long like best buds*)
Only a pair of soldiers had peeled off to chase the selkie, it was unsurprising given that he was clearly the least dangerous of the group. The poor thing had joined up at just the wrong time too, immediately thrust into the thick of things like that. With Xavier taking one down that meant only one pursuer was hot on the heels of their newest crewmate though (granted there were now three on him but that was to be expected) so things were looking up. Kerro took a sharp left, away from the coast, spotting something that could help him out quite a bit. Watching Xavier in the jungle had given him ideas. He wasn't much for fighting, too small and frail for that, but what he lacked in muscle he made up for in cleverness. Well, at least he liked to think so, but it was probably dumb luck and a lot of it that had kept him afloat this long. He wrapped both arms around a branch at waist level, wincing a bit at the bark scraping the bare skin of his chest and arms, and pulled it back as far as he could. At the sound of footsteps he let it go, the wood sailing forward and smacking solidly into the legs of his second pursuer toppling the man like a toy. Two down, three to go.

A Herschel/Ralif partnership would be too strong,,,,, too salty)
"Perhaps." They said, as still as a statue once again, the low sun had thrown a shadow across their elongated face, and unblinking white eyes, "We shall see. I travelled the seas once before, little human. I have not forgotten how to use them again. Those waters have always belonged to monsters." The Gods worked in pairs in this world, and Flidais and Una had worked hand in hand when creating the oceans and what lived in them. Harpies had no allies, but they have a far greater chance of survival when it came to close encounters with Leviathans. Sonal nodded, backing off herself, "We are agreed." She hissed, not wanting to move too suddenly, in case the creature changed it's mind. "I thought you were that creature's lunch for certain, there. The Gods must not be ready for your soul yet." Somehow that came out like an insult.

(Hey guys sorry I got really busy)
Flames danced in Heath's eyes as the prospect of revenge felt so close he could nearly taste the metallic blood of his enemy as he cut another wound. It distracted him momentarily from the blade and he reeled back with just enough time left to receive a good cut in addition to her previous slice at his arm, but nothing too ghastly. He was a skilled swordsman who could normally switch between his dominant and non-dominant hand with ease, but he favored his injured arm rather than risking putting more pressure and force on the wound. He met his sword again with hers and used his strength to push back against her. He hated the woman before him and had to remind himself not to attack out of passion and spite, that was when soldiers got sloppy. He decided it might be beneficial to wear her out, if her wound was deep enough the bleeding would tire her quickly. He swung at her again, this time at her lower abdomen.
Kain didn't like talking to his own crew, he certainly hated conversing with someone during a fight. However, that definitely seemed to be both Whetu and Xavier's style which was typical. Xavier had disappeared into the jungle with soldiers on his heels and Whetu was still going at it with Iratus, the sound of their swords clashing was distant in his mind, but he thought he saw blood on her side out of the corner of his eye. He didn't pay too much attention since Chrysanta was quicker than he had been expecting and her sword was already slashing through the air at him again. He blocked with his own blade and stepped out of her path before he slashed at the kink in the armor by her hip.
Xavier dug his heels into the ground quickly to stop his speed as the branch hit the soldier in front of him with much more force than he had previously thought a branch could carry. He stepped on the soldiers back and jogged up to Kerro, his expression light with excitement. "Wonderful." He declared proudly and patted him lightly on the back with praise. "So clever, let's keep going and maybe we'll lose the others in the forest." He said with a glance over his shoulder once he heard the men in the distance.
Camilla was fairly surprised at the speed the fire grew. She watched it climb until the flames licked at the sky and black puffs of smoke rose lazily to join the few white clouds. She backed up along with Coran than headed towards the direction she remembered the ship being. "Oh, I just carry them for sterile purpose for my equipment, it also makes cutting easier with a hot blade and cauterizing wounds." She said cheerily and looped her arm through his. "I think Kain smokes you could ask for a pack of his matches." She suggested cheerily and nudged him teasingly. "We did it Coran, Gods I can't believe we just tricked the royal guard and set a house on fire."

Hey guys, so this rp will be on a mini hiatus, Sappho is really sick right now in the hospital, unable to come on, but she is on the mend. I'm not sure exactly when she will be back, but she hasn't abandoned this place, she just needs to recover before she can return.

[ Forgive me for I have failed you
Now that life has finally evened out, I'm trying to come back to the forums. And I changed my display name so I'm not beast anymore.
I'm gonna go back and read the roleplay since I began and catch myself up -- Idk when Aira will be needed but if you feel like throwing in some mermaid action, hmu and I'll be here.
I hope Sappho gets better, this is a beautiful rp ~ ]
