Ross looked up at her, shaking out his pelt and trying to look straight at her. "Nice name. I'm Ross." Finally, he could talk properly! Letting out a sigh of relief, he purred slightly back to her. What are you doing, Ross??!! Be aggressive. The little voice in his head prompted him but he chose to shut it out. ( It seems Ross has a bit of a cruuush! )

No kidding!! Lightning too haha))
Lightning kinked her tail across her back and looked up at him. She gazed at him for a moment and lookee away. "I will leave your territory now. I'm sorry for intruding." She slowly turned around and walked away. Why was she acting so nice?

"Okay, thanks. You can actually stay if you'd like, maybe hunt a bit? I do feel bad that this prey is all for me in my territory..." Ross mewed quietly, looking slightly smaller now that he was talking again. Trying to keep his cool and look that way too, he managed to keep eye contact with Lightning.

Lightning purred and thanked him. "Are you sure? Don't you have any other cats to go to?" She meowed. Unsure if he was setting up a trap or not. But that seemed very unlikely. She sat down and curled her tail on her paws.
I'll be back in around an hour))

( Okay )
"No, I'm all alone here. Sometimes I do wish I could have someone else near here though.." Ross admitted with a little shrug, sighing. "I guess I chose to be alone anyways, being that I'm usually pretty mean when some cat goes onto my territory." His thoughts were raging in his mind, telling him to stop and drive her off already even though he ignored them.

Lightning purred. She understood what he meant, she usually felt the same. She felt something odd stir in her belly, something about this cat made her feel good and happy. She felt angry at herself for thinking that. Her eyes softened once more when she met his gaze. A warm feeling flooded through her and she didn't like it but decided to ignore that thought. "Want to hunt with me?" She asked almost to quiet for him to hear.

Thrush let out a purr as he grinned down at Hearts. "Good catch - I was worried I might have to jump in, but you caught it all on your own. Not bad for a first catch, kitty-pet," he teased, affectionately flicking her ear with his tail tip. He took a breath before meeting the she-cat's gaze again, his heart light. "What do you say we share this back at my den, eh? The sun-down is coming quickly and there's a fox on the loose still - I can't have you getting hurt. Will you stay with me, Hearts, just for tonight?" he asked her, the tom's heart pounding nervously in his chest.

If cats could blush, then Hearts would be as red as a beet. She shuffled her paws and smiled at the ground before looking up into his eyes and purring. Her heart sang as she chuckled a bit. "I would love that. It beats going home and having little two-legs pull my tail and whiskers off." She giggled a little.

A better idea than ever which he normally wouldn't agree too. But now something was different, and he wasn't sure what. This she-cat made him feel very, very, strange, but it felt good, "Yes, I would be happy to." He replied with a slightly happy edge to his voice.

Lightning purred and got up, she gently flicked his muzzle with her tail before padding off. She knew she shouldn't be so friendly with new cats but she couldn't help it and she didn't know why. She picked up the scent of squirrel and stopped for a moment to wait for the tom. She heard birds singing in the trees above and suddenly felt really happy about the day.

Ross rolled his eyes with amusement and followed after her on considerably lighter pawsteps than before. He sniffed the air and launched into his daily routine. Finding a scent almost immediately, he stalked after it. Briefly noticing that it was a thrush, the tom felt a rush of excitement as he neared closer. Crouching, he bunched up his muscles and pounced on a frond of grass that positively reeked of bird. His claws raked feather and he landed on it with a neat bite to the neck. Ross smiled as he held it in his jaws to bring back to Lightning.

Lightning shook her head as he padded away. She focused on the scent and followed it close to a fern bush at the base of an oak tree. Carefully, she went a few steps closer before she could see the reddish pelt of the squirrel. She unsheathed her claws and pounced, quickly landing on its back and giving it a swift bite to the neck. As soon as it went limp in her jaws she picked it up and turned around, she jumped when she saw Ross standing a few tail-lengths away from her.

"Nice job!" Ross purred with a little shrug. "Two pieces of prey is pretty good in such short time, one that each of us had caught! Do you want to continue or begin to eat a bit? Oh my, I am actually really hungry." He remarked casually, looking down at the surprisingly large thrush in front of him. "Just a second." Ross mewed, screwing his face up with concentration and rushing over to a tree. He began to dig his claws into the bark and climb it, eventually coming down with a nest that held eggs in his jaws. "There! I knew I scented something else."

Lightning looked at him with surprise. "You have a really good sense of smell." She meowed as she stared at the nest of eggs. She looked back down at her squirrel before yawning. "I wouldn't mind eating now. I haven't eaten in a while." She flicked her ears as she settled down on her belly. The sun soaked into her fur, Lightning just started to realize how tired she was.

Thrush let out a chuckle. "Then it's settled. My den isn't too far from here," he explained, then bent down to nimbly pick up the fresh-kill Hearts had placed at his paws. "What is living with two-legs like, anyway? Why do you stay there when you could roam freely in the woods like me?" he asked curiously around the mouthful of fur in his jaws as the two cats began to head towards Thrush's den for the night.

With a little stifled yawn, he poked the bird with a claw for a moment and then sniffed it. Being a bit of a picky eater wasn't thaaaat bad. Okay. The thrush looks good to me. Ross thought to himself, finally taking a small bite and savoring the forest-y taste. "You're right... I haven't eaten much either." He just realized how much he was hungry and dug in contentedly.

Hearts sighed and folded her ears down, giving her a gloomy presence. "I never had a reason to be in the forest, much less live there. I've always wanted to but... I didn't want to be all alone and I never had run into other cats before now. But the first two I met were these really rude siblings and even you were hostile at first, but now your just a sweetheart." She pushed his side playfully with hers and then continued on. "I really do want to live in the woods. I love the sounds and the smells, the way the ground moves under you when you run across it. I just feel like I belomg here. But I've never had a reason to permanently live here." She sighed again and then gave him a littl smile, trying to look happier than she felt at knowing she would have to go home tomorrow.

Thrush's heart broke to hear Hearts' story and noticed her glowering, gloomy mood immediately. He wanted to make her feel welcome to stay in the forest - she wouldn't need to be alone with him by her side if she chose to stay. He could see the deep desire to remain in the dense woods easily and wished he could help her to understand that she really could just leave her two-legs, if that's what she so desired. He brightened at being called a sweetheart, though inwardly he could recall the teasing he would have received from his old friends at the mere mention of being called such. But it didn't bother him - he would never see those old cats again. He could start something new here, something with Hearts - and that made him feel much more hopeful about the future.
He returned her smile, then motioned to the hollow tree just a few fox lengths in front of them. "Home sweet home," he told Hearts with a grin, then settled on the well-trod bracken to share the fresh-kill. "I'm glad I ran into you today, Hearts," he told her, "since it can get a little tiresome to be by myself all the time. You're great company, you know," he chuckled. "Thanks for sharing your story with me, by the way. I know I can be a little intimidating. If I'd know you were so kind, perhaps I wouldn't have been so aggressive. But, either way, we're here now, aren't we?"

(Are they going to end up together or something?? That would be cool)
Hearts smiled even more, this one sweet and kind of hopeful. "I'm glad I ran into you too. I've never had a friend before and mow I do... I guess that's really great, huh?" She giggled again, which she does a lot.She then settled herself beside him, tucking her paws beneath her. "I'm glad I told you all that... I've been keeping it all to myself for a long while and it caused me to feel stressed at times. And yeah you were aggressive but you just didn't know me. It was a correct reaction." She laid her tail behind her, which absentmindedly draped over his tail in the process.

(I like the idea of the two ending up together as well :3)
Thrush was pleased when she came to rest beside him, his heart lighter than it had felt in a long time. "I'm glad you trusted me enough to share your story - so know I think it's time I share mine with you, eh?" he told her, tentatively entwining their tails as a rush of affection swept over him. Trust was something easily lost, but hardly gained. He knew it had taken courage to share her desires and admired her for it. Now, he figured, he should return the favor. But it was not the only reason to why he would delve into his story; he wanted Hearts to understand why he lived the way he did. He wanted to share his world with her.
"I was born far away from here into a Clan of cats that lived deep in the woods. They were called StormClan, known by the other Clans that lived nearby them as the noble and strong. I had a mentor who taught me the very hunting crouch I showed you today," he told her with a gentle purr. "I loved it there - but I made some mistakes and was forced to leave. I-" he hesitated, unsure if he was ready to divulge all his secrets just yet. "I got myself into some trouble with another Clanmate and the two of us had to go our separate ways. There was no place for me there anymore, so I traveled for a moon or so looking for a new place to call my own. And then I stumbled upon these woods, and, well... you know how the story goes from there," he said, his eyes meeting Hearts' with a quiet chuckle.

"So where do you come from?" He asked curiously, not wanting to be nosy or anything but trying to stay as cool as he could. He hoped that question was a good one to start off with but wasn't sure, lowering his head slightly.

Hearts wanted to desperately ask what trouble he had gotten into but decoded to not pry into his personal reasons. "For some reason that sounds... familiar. A clan... why does that sound familiar?" It then hit her as strong as a tsunami hits a beach. Her memories came rushing back to her all at once. Her mother running from a place... a camp... surrounded by a thick wall of gorse and brambles. Running and running until she got to two-leg place and then her having a fight with another cat... her father... he didn't want to take her in but why was she trying to give her to him? Then another memory. Her mom standing in the garden that she recognized and her home and setting her down outside the door on the mat. Her whispering that she loved her and would always love her but that the clan wasn't safe for her... that they didn't think she belonged there since she wasn't a full clan cat. Hearts was crying by now. Staring off into space with tears going down her pale gray cheeks and landing on the ground beneath her. She remembered who she was... and why she was who she was now.
(She was born into a clan but was half kittypet and her clan, TidalClan, only approved of full clan cats so when they found that out they were going to throw her into the sea. Her mind ther met her father when she went on a ceremony, where apprentices have to journey by themselves for about a year but she was gone longer than that and came back expecting so Hearts' mother ran really far to get her here and is very far away.
Thought that would help with the flashbacks))

Even through all of the trouble getting here. "Ahh, that's cool. I've lived here all my life, so I kind of know it like the back of my paw." Ross admitted. He knew all the ups and downs of this territory, where to find the best prey, and where to find good herbs. He was an expert, so to speak. "If you ever need help with knowing where you're going, I'm the cat to ask." The tom joked.

Lightning nodded and purred. She was glad someone knew the way around here. She found it difficult to get around this forest for some reason. She yawned and closed her eyes, she felt calmer around this cat now for some reason. She knew she shouldn't but she did.

Ross looked at the sky for a moment, watching it slowly darken. He hadn't realized how close to nightfall it was... "If you like you could sleep out here and continue your travels in the morning." He suggested hopefully, looking and Lightning and giving her a little nudge.
