"Never said they were considered impressive," said Maladict. "They're the closest we have to dragons, however. Dragons out of myth, at any rate. You're the sort who is more myth than actual flesh on the Disc." He could understand, in some way, how Mikhail felt. "Their fire powers," he said. "Supposedly adapted into that to explode. Devolved, really. I don't see how it's an improvement." Swamp dragons were stupid, in the vampire's opinion. "I ... suppose they could be called ghost dragons," he said. "They don't exist in the world anymore. They exist in an alternate dimension, maybe? Or dreams? Or maybe the wizards in other countries just do weird things sometimes. You sometimes hear about dragons in my world. But it's always 'my second cousin Ronald heard it from his wife Betty and she heard it from the person who delivered the mail, who heard it from the turnip man'. And then they insist this source is reliable. If you get my meaning?" Part of him didn't think Mikhail would get his meaning. So he asked instead, "What's your world like?" (Sorry for the late reply. Muse just came back.) A world without real dragons? Maladict's world sounded just as mythical to Mikhail as the vampire probably thought the dragon he was speaking with was. "M-maybe all the real dragons are hiding somewhere. We do that sometimes back home too. Also, What's a disc?" The explanation of the dragon-wannabes powers drew a snort of laughter from him, causing his tail to stir up the snow behind him. "I bet it's funny to watch! They sound like fiery bubbles!" He wondered if they'd be fun to mess around with. Were they like those goats that fell over when scared, except they'd blow up? Although it was a lot to take in, Mikhail did manage to get the other blinker's point, and it made him feel a bit empty inside. "T-they're all gone? What happened to them?" He'd figured they were still around in someway before, but now it sounded like it was a similar situation to that of the unicorn back home. They disappeared and went on to only exist in stories. Ghosts on the other hand, which weren't 'supposed to exist', were a very real thing there, hence the 'ghost dragon' guess. "My world?" Mikhail mused, trying to push his previous feelings away. Talking about home would help that right? "Umm. It's big. And lots of things live there, like animals and people! Of course there's other dragons too, but we don't meet very often... Or at all..." The only other 'dragons' he'd met during his short life, if they could still be called that, had been turned into demons. There was also that Wyrm, which still sent chills down his back upon thinking about it. "For awhile, it was almost impossible to go a day without fighting something. But now things are nice and... quiet!" And lonely, but he left that part out.

"Maybe they are just hiding." They weren't, but what else could he say? The question about what a disc was threw him for a second. How could Mikhail not know what a disc was? "It's ... a flat surface." He picked up a plate, gently scooping the cookies off onto the table. Then he held it up. "This is a disc." He spun it around on one finger, easily balancing it before setting it down again. "How come you don't know that if that's what your world looks like?" Coming from a planet that was disc-shaped, any other shape was foreign and strange to the vampire. So he didn't assume Mikhail lived anywhere differently. "Not enough belief in them?" assumed Maladict, when questioned about the dragons again. "I always thought they were a bit like foreign gods. Just faded away ..." He shrugged. He didn't know much about it and, though he wanted to be concerned for Mikhail, it wasn't something he really could find important. "Or they never existed at all. I have no idea, you see. I've only been in Borogravia and Lancre, you see. They don't really care about such things. And anyway, we don't get very philosophical in my species." Which was especially true for his family. "No one to talk to?" he asked Mikhail, a bit surprised he was lonely.

Lynx 17 blinked into the.... living room? The omnic turned around, antennae cocked up and forwards in surprise. The room was warm and cozy, with an electric fire crackling in a large rock fireplace while the walls and open beams were wrapped with garland. A large Christmas tree stood in the corner tastefully decorated with tinsel and lights. In the air wafted the scent of pine cones and peppermint, and a table nearby was brimming with food. Well then, wasn't this festive? Wary but intrigued, Lynx ran their silver fingers along the edge of the table, checking.... well, not exactly sure what to check for. Traps maybe. (reposting! Lets have them go do something outside!)

"I thought those were just funny shaped rocks." That's what the one he'd almost ate tasted like anyway. Yuck. "Wha-? My world doesn't look like that!" He replied, utterly confused at the prospect of his world being a disk. "The planet is round! If it was flat, we'd fall off if we went too far!" What kind of weird place did Maladict come from? No dragons, and the world was flat! It sounded like a nightmare... "Oh... That's sad." He meant that in regards to both the dragons and gods, but the gods part stuck out to him more. Zero and her sisters had been considered goddesses hadn't they? Now that they were all gone, would the people that worshiped them stop believing in them too? Would all memory of them just fade away? Blinking a few times to refocus his thoughts back to the present, "N-no. Not really. The only people I had to talk to are all gone now. And most others run away screaming about 'winged demons' if I try and get close. The last ones even tried shooting those little sharp sticks at me!" Thankfully their aim had been pretty bad, but Mikhail still had to spend the next night plucking a few strays out of his body.

Thankfully their aim had been pretty bad, but Mikhail still had to spend the next night plucking a few strays out of his body. "That's the point," said Maladict. "Falling off. You don't go to the Rim. We aren't stupid. And there is plenty of room so we can't fall off the side." He looked at the dragon incredulously. "How can you live on a round planet? Aren't some of you walking upside-down? If you aren't falling off. Or do you only live on the top?" His mental image of a round world was very interesting. It included a lot of people dangerously living on the round sides. He paused again, thinking over what Mikhail said, and then running it through his mental translators. "Arrows?" It seemed like a safe assumption. "Can't you ... well ... you do look a bit intimidating, you know?" He hoped Mikhail knew. He meant, well ... if you talked to the dragon for any length of time he wasn't. But that didn't mean much. The vampire had been trying to run a few minutes ago. "Usually what stopped people from running away from me," he admitted. "Was wearing this." He lifted the corner of the black ribbon he had pinned to his chest. Words in silver along the ribbon said 'not one drop'. "It works against running, usually. Though I get just as many insults." His expression soured just a little. "Might be harder for a dragon, but they're probably just worried about you eating them. It's always jump to that conclusion first. I mean, I migh - I mean you might - just want to have a nice chat and complain about your dad, but noooo." He rolled his eyes.

Zacharie blinked into the lodge wearing his cat mask, strolling confidently before coming to a stop. "Miaou, here again?" He raised one hand to the bottom of his mask as if it were his chin, taking a moment to think. The lodge had appeared several times now, and he knew the basics about it. He dropped his backpack off of his back and onto the couch, then approached the fire and knelt there. Thankfully, this place was typically safe. And it looked like there weren't many blinkers around at the moment to cause conflict.

Vanta blinked in seated near Zacharie next to the fire. Yet again, this strange place - this time, the scents and sounds were once again different than anything else he had experienced. Possibly the weirdest thing was that he could feel a unique warmth, almost as if it was coming off of something. Was it made by whatever was producing that crackling noise? Most likely another strange House shenanigan. He didn't exactly have a high tolerance to heat, but he was intrigued.

Zacharie took a moment to move, but turned his head slightly and smiled down at Vanta from behind his mask. "Oh, hello there," he greeted, a welcoming attitude overcoming any ominous aura he had. "Interested in the fire, are you?" He pointed to the fireplace, which seemed to have captivated the newcomer. "It isn't real. I'm quite sure it's artificially produced by the House." He found himself leaning forward slightly to get a better look at the creature in front of him, curiously wondering where this blinker was from and what kind of life they led.

Vanta's ears briefly perked up and he turned his head towards the other blinker. Yes, he had noticed a heartbeat, but his attention had been redirected by the heat - fire, as Zach had referred to it. His voice and smell were unfamiliar, letting the fox-cat know that they hadn't met before. "I've never heard of fire before." As always, the new word tasted weird on his tongue. Not exactly good, not exactly bad. Just weird. Simply to be friendly, he added, "By the way, I'm Vanta."

Zacharie stopped leaning forward, now only a foot from Vanta. “You’ve never heard of fire, eh? It’s an icon of the beginning of life itself, but it can also be very dangerous because of how easily it spreads,” he explained. As if that information were an introduction to his character, he nodded to the blinker. “My name is Zacharie. I’m just a simple merchant.” The nod served the same purpose as a handshake, and he chuckled behind his mask. “Tell me about your world, will you?”

Post by Sησω on Jan 6, 2019 21:03:06 GMT -5
So that was certainly interesting - this fire could mean life and death at the same time. Hopefully the one they were sitting next to wouldn't spread. Too much heat wouldn't be good, especially because Vanta's thick fur was designed to keep him warm. "I live on a large island. It's mostly made up of grassy meadows, but there are some patches which are more wet or more dry. My tribe lives in the southern part." While he had become more open about talking, the fox-cat couldn't help but back up a little when he sensed the other blinker's form move closer. He still wasn't used to creatures his size or larger coming up close to him. Now he was also a bit further from the fire, but could still feel its warmth.

Zacharie chuckled in amusement when Vanta backed away from him. He retreated from the creature's personal space and turned toward the fire, holding out both palms toward it to warm himself. "Don't worry, I won't hurt you. You're probably not in much danger at the moment... I've been through much in this house and this is one of the least threatening places, next to the living room of course." He repositioned himself, taking his legs out from under him and sitting cross-legged instead of kneeling. His mask hid any emotion, its grin illuminated by the flames. "I'm a simple merchant," he informed him. "I have some of my wares with me if you'd like to take a look."

( ѕρσттεdѕнιммεя - Hello!) "So you've been in this room before?" Vanta asked. He assumed it was a room - it was inside, but the space didn't feel like the living room or hallway. Plus, the texture of the ground was different. He had been told that rooms were dangerous, but the few he had been in didn't seem that threatening. Just strange. This one was no exception. Suddenly, another unfamiliar word touched his ears - merchant. He couldn't help but ask, "What is a merchant?"

(Hey spotted!
Zacharie nodded his head earnestly at the creature with him beside the fire. He kept his face turned away while he spoke, “Yes, I’ve been here several times. It is a recurring location at the Paradox House.” His head turned when Vanta asked what a merchant was. “You... don’t know what a merchant is? Why, a merchant is me!” He pointed to himself, as if to his face, but there was only a mask with a singular, grinning expression there. “Allow me to demonstrate.” He uncrossed his legs and stood in place, then strolled over to where he had shed his backpack and picked it back up. Upon returning to the carpet in front of the fireplace, he plopped the bag down in front of Vanta. It was spilling open with trinkets, mystical-looking orbs, labeled packets, shirts and kneepads with rough texture, and even baseball bats. “Do you have any credits?” He prompted.
|
|
|
Post by Sησω on Jan 7, 2019 22:07:01 GMT -5
So rooms could recur? That was an interesting idea. As Zacharie opened the bag, a number of unfamiliar smells flooded Vanta's scent glands. He stood up and cautiously padded forward, stopping right in front of one of the shirts. These things, there seemed to be a lot of them. How was it even possible to gather that many different things? "I don't know what credits are, either." Were 'credits' what the other blinker was referring to the items as?
|
|
|
Post by Razzle Dazzle on Jan 7, 2019 22:44:08 GMT -5
Zacharie put his hands declaratively on his hips, the grin behind his mask twisting into a frown when Vanta asked about credits. “Wh... What are credits?” He seemed stunned. “You know, like...” he was trying to phrase it the way other people seemed to talk about it here, “Like money?” He pointed to the outfits. “Those are armour,” he identified. “And this is inspiration.” He took one of the orbs and held it out in front of Vanta, balancing it in his fingers as if it were alive and fragile. “I sell these to those going into battle.”
|

Money. "Food and herbs can work as money, but I don't have any on me right now," Vanta stated. It was true that those things were simply necessary to survive, but for fox-cats like himself they could also sort of work as a currency. Due to his blindness he didn't know what parts of the collection the other blinker was referring to, but one word piqued his interest - armor. "I've heard legends of armored fox-cats." A hint of excitement was clear in his voice. However, one thing was different between the myths and Zacharie's armor - armored fox-cats were born with the armor. It was like his thick coat of fur. Couldn't be equipped or taken off.

“Well,” the merchant said in a muffled murmur while he dropped the orb back into the opening, “You’ll just have to come back when you have something worthwhile in exchange then.” He brought his hands together on the bag to close it, but stopped short. “Legends? You are very welcome to share knowledge from your world,” he said quickly, mouth curling back into a smile as he leaned forward toward the other blinker. He had knelt down to be on the same level once more. “If you like, I will trade knowledge for armour of your own.”

Raineh said: Touka nodded, relaxing a little as they seemed to slip back into the normal rhythm of things. Well, maybe not ‘normal’, but at least, positive. “As long as it doesn’t involve fire, I’m in,” she said, remembering the stories from the last time the lodge came into existence. She followed Rex’s gaze to the door, hearing the voices coming from behind it, supposedly, out in the snow. “Guess we could go see what everybody else is up to? take that raineh u can't break the forums anymore) Rex snorted. "We are not burning this place down again," he said, rolling his eyes. He could say it all he wanted, but he had no doubt that certain people would try and that they would, unfortunately, probably find a way. "Well, outside we go." He headed over to the door, then pulled it open, greeted by a blast of cold wind right to his face. Invigorating. He scanned the area, noting the quite a lot of snow on the ground. Taking a step out to test it, a grin slipped onto his face. Perfect.

Knowledge as money? That was true, knowledge was valuable. It was certainly something important in the tribe, even though omegas like himself didn't know as much as betas. Hopefully that didn't mean Zach was trying to get something out of Vanta to use it against him. The thought was only brief, however - he was beginning to trust the other blinkers. Before he knew it, he was eagerly sharing, "The legends tell of fox-cats with plates of armor on their body instead of fur. It was said to be able to protect them from any predator."

"Any predator..." Zacharie hummed and stopped closing the backpack, plunging one hand back into it. The merchant rummaged around through his wares until he pulled out a particular defensive tunic, offering it to Vanta. "Try this." He still desired more elaboration, though. "What predators would these be, that you need protection from?" He pulled one more thing out of the bag, which appeared to be a glass bottle filled with swirling smoke.

She must had been embarrassed from her accident, a feeling which the Android understood very well. In reality, the S type was completely oblivious to the real reason Eises was blushing. Once they were both back up, "O-oh. It's fine." 7S hummed, flashing the hybrid a smile. It seemed like she was alright, a bit dazed maybe, but no permanent damage. What a relief... "Looks like whoever chose the last door picked a good one this time. This room is really... nice." Deciding to move away from the last topic to avoid anymore awkwardness between them, 7S once again took a glance around the room. "It's quite the contrast to the walls of the Bunker."

At least the...robot? didn't seem bothered it, that was a relief. Eises rubbed the bottom of her chin a bit, trying to ease the dull pain. The redness in her cheeks refused to fade away even after several seconds of seeing the android, much to her dismay. She activated more of her ice magic to make the warmth go away, but despite acting like a mini air conditioner, the warmth still stayed. "R-Room?" The wolf looked around their surroundings, tilting her head slightly. She was still in the Lodge wasn't she? Smacking into the android didn't send her off to a whole room, did it? Nothing looked different from before the robot blinked in at least. It took Eises more time than she'd like to admit to realise this blinker probably hasn't been to the holiday version of the living room before. "This is just the lodge, n-not a room." Her ears flattened a bit, "Have you looked out the windows?" "Oh, you were in a bunker before coming here?"
