Rebecca let out a sigh to herself as she scratched at her head with a finger, being careful to not get her ring stuck in her hair. While this was her first year at Caligo University, she was well aware of how Orientation was run based on what her parents and older siblings had told her. Two of her three older siblings had already graduated, and the third was somewhere else in the room. Truth be told, she was excited to know which student she would be mentoring, and she had a wicked grin on her face. She had no issue with using humans to her advantage. Hell, that was one of the two reasons she decided to attend Caligo. The other, that her parents and older siblings had attended the university, was equally important to her, as she didn’t want to be the one to buck tradition.
She looked up and around the room to spot her brother, and she found him quite easily because of his ridiculous looking, to her, hair. God, why can’t you have a normal haircut, she had said. You shouldn’t be able to tie it into a ponytail, she had said. Yet he hadn’t cut it, though she supposed she could forgive him for his ridiculous hair. After all, he was family, and she would be around him quite a bit while they were both at Caligo. Impatiently, she twisted her ring around her index finger, just wanting Headmaster Kingston to list off the mentee-mentor pairs. It was the only reason she was excited to attend Orientation. She looked up again. This time, she made eye contact with her brother, and she could only imagine what was going through his head.
Samuel was the one to break eye contact, turning his attention back to the headmaster. Yes, this was the fourth time he had heard the whole spiel about the University and its supposed focus on helping students during the transfer process, and yes, part of him was bothered by the humans’ treatment. However, it was not enough for him to want to change how Caligo was run. His guilty pleasure was demonstrating his control over them, and he didn’t want to be the one in his family to cause trouble. He wanted to leave that slot to his older brother, whom the entire family joked about being the one who would do something “rebellious.”
He gently bit his lower lip, hoping that the girl he was matched with wouldn’t be much of a challenge for him. He had heard both his older siblings talk about humans who had been challenging for them to deal with, whether it was because the humans impatient, stubborn, or immune to their influence. While neither of them had killed a human in rage, he could figure out just how much they considered that as the alternative to dealing with particularly difficult humans. Fortunately, his siblings had won out in the end, as he wasn’t sure how his parents would have reacted to that news (if they ever told them, that is).

MistyKaimeron glanced down at his un-shaken hand and slowly retracted it, instead reaching to scratch the back of his head sheepishly. This was looking to be a bit more work than he'd anticipated. Clearing his throat a little, he shrugged his shoulders and tilted his head. "Sooo tell me about yourself, what's your major? I always gotta wonder why folks come to this school, I can't deny my curiosity," he asked her as casually as he could manage, face still alight with a soft grin. He wasn't about to go right into the neck-biting thing, considering he wasn't even hungry, but he also didn't think that would be a good thing for Cassie to experience on her first day. Besides, it would kind of suck if he made a mistake covering it up and she had to be axed right away. No, he was determined to not screw this up on either end. He gestured with his hand for her to sort of walk with him and escape the pressing crowd.
Plus, he liked when the humans really cared about the school and about learning, he liked that they didn't know what was going on. It was a lot easier to watch them happy doing what they came here to do than watching them aware of their suffering on the side. Plus here he got to meet all kinds of people he normally wouldn't back home, and it was both mystifying and slightly confusing at the same time. Kaimeron was certain he'd never had to learn so many names in his entire life, and a lot of them he wasn't good at pronouncing, either. Cassie at least looked nice, looked like she cared about being here with the makeup on and all. The least he could do was make it a sort of normal school experience.

Alrighty, that works for me man)
Emilio was quiet the whole way there, simply playing his game in the backseat of the car as his parents drove him to some new school or something like that. He didn't really care, as long as he was allowed to keep his games he could care less where he went. Which really he probably should have cared about going to Caligo, not only for what school it was but also for what it held inside. He never could have known about the vampires though, those were just evil beings he killed in some games and in others it was who he was so that's all they were to him. Some myth that was put into some of his games and that was really all he cared for. While he played his game he could overhear his parents discussing how proud they were of their son to have received the letter from such a school and they hoped that maybe he would finally pay attention in class. Rolling his eyes, he turned his attention back to his game. It wasn't that he didn't pay attention in his other classes, it was that he simply had no interest in doing so, not when test after test he continued to get an A. "I think we may be lost," he heard his mother murmur, keeping her voice down because she didn't want her precious son to hear. He could never understand why she bothered, he could still hear her. He could always hear what was going on around him, even when it looked like he might not be. The gamer had ultimately become a pro at eavesdropping, which also led to him hearing things he didn't want to hear and wished he could erase from his mind, but alas, he could not. "We're not lost dear, look, the school is right there," his father responded with a gentle tone. That was the thing with his parents, they were always so calm and collected, quiet and gentle. Which is probably what led to Emilio being as chill as he was and ending up being a go with the flow kind of guy.
His father pulled into a parking space and put the car in park, they had to get going so they could head back to the house in time to let their beloved dog out. He'd miss that dog, that big hulking mass of wrinkles. His parents and him had gotten a Neopolitan Mastiff when Emilio was still a kid and the dog was still around, though Emilio guessed he wasn't going to make it much longer. Man he was going to miss Tiny. Ironically their dog was sold as the "runt" and ended up actually being the biggest one of the litter. A snort of amusement escaped as he recalled how amusing it had been when they'd gotten in touch with the other owners who'd adopted Tiny's siblings and they all came together to meet up. "Come on kid, give your parents one last good bye hug," his father's voice brought him back to reality. Looking unamused, as he often did, he slipped his lanky figure out of the car and stood towering above his mother. But he leaned down like always and gave her a hug before giving his father one and letting out a noise as he was squeezed by the man. "We love you, and we hope you have fun. You can always get a hold of us if you ever need us okay?" "Yeah, I love you guys too," he responded, grabbing his things and letting out a sigh as he watched them drive off. "Great," he turned towards the building with a bit of a frown, raising a brow at the architecture before him.
"Do they not know about modern buildings?" He muttered as he made his way towards what he assumed was the orientation building, judging by the crowd of other students headed for it. He remained silent, just following after everyone else and keeping to himself. When he arrived, he only half listened to the man talking because well he wasn't really all that interesting if you asked Emilio, and so he simply looked around at the others around him silently taking them in. He happened to sone back in just as the whole mentor system was begin explained. "Huh," he narrowed his eyes a bit, that was a little odd. He'd never heard of a school doing something like that before, but hey, maybe it was the fancy thing to do or whatever. Who knew. When his name was called, he looked up before frowning and adjusting his messenger bag on his shoulder. Right right, who in the world was that? He assumed it was a chick, judging by the name. Though he guessed he couldn't necessarily go off of that either, he'd met people with names of "the opposite gender" as people liked to state, but what was name other than the sound people were supposed to call you? He looked around carefully in an attempt to find whoever it was he was supposed to pair up with. This was a nightmare really, like some weird game of hide-and-seek when he thought about it. "Man," he scratched the back of his head up underneath his hat before readjusting it and meandering about in search of his mentor. Hopefully they were cool, man it would suck if his mentor turned out to be some strict person with no idea of fun.

Valarie's odd green eyes rolled as her alarm went off. There was no good reason she had to go to this... Orientation. Resisting the temptation to smash the snooze button on the alarm clock, she shut it off, slowly and somewhat clumsily rolling out of bed and getting on her feet. Standing, Valarie swayed, head a little dizzy after laying down so long. She tossed a longing sideways glance at the book that laid on her bed, wishing she could go back to it, her mind deep in the fantasy land of Dr. David Leveaux. Shaking her head, she stumbled over to the mirror, staring at her blurry figure for but a few moments before her eyes finally focused. Oh God. My hair is a mess. Valarie's rambunctious red tresses had come undone while she was sleeping, and now made a gigantic red halo around her head. Despite the lack of onlookers, Valarie felt heat rising to her cheeks. Scrambling for a hair brush -- She was five minutes late already -- Valarie knocked over several shampoo bottles and other bathroom items before her slender fingers caught the handle of a brush already full of her strands of hair. Cursing loudly, she dragged the brush through her hair a couple times before giving up and tying it in a large messy bun. Tossing the brush aside, Valarie hurried over to her closet, eyes flitting over her selection of clothes. Hoodie. Hoodie. Hoodie. Sweats. Aha! Jeans! Without a moment of hesitation, she slipped the too-big jeans over her spindly legs, pulling on a plain grey hoodie and running out the door. She wasn't too sure where she was going, but figured following the crowd of students was the place to start. Walking through the halls, Valarie was reminded of the past, memories teasing her brain with every step she took. Back in 8th grade. She remembered the bully who'd slammed her against the wall and pulled that fiery red hair. He'd made fun of her eyes, her bony body. The human boy. She remembered that with every fiber of her body that she wanted to kill the boy. She still had her angry streaks now, but at least now she had a defense mechanism in her cunning and her.... abilities. Valarie's lip curled a bit at the thought of humans. She'd never liked people, never been a fan, and that was why she'd used her family for her own whims. Well. Her fake family. Shaking her head to get herself out of that state of mind, Valarie focused on the people around her, mind alight with all kinds of new ideas as she stared at the fresh, innocent human faces around her. Little did they know what she and others were here for. Surveying the halls, Valarie couldn't help but wonder which one of these humans she might be paired with. She'd heard of immune humans and strong willed ones, and Valarie grinned a bit. Intelligent as she was, Valarie was far more cocky, and nothing put a smile on her face more than besting someone who deserved it. The more she thought about it, a placid human would be downright boring. She wanted a challenge. By the time Valarie reached Noctum Hall, she was practically shaking, barely in control of the malicious beast that raged inside of her. Instead, the young woman managed to remain meek looking, keeping her eyes down, sitting down quickly (though the pairings had already started) and staying quiet, listening intently for her name and watching curiously those who were called. The only thing that moved, however calm she tried to be, was her left foot, which vigorously tapped the floor in rhythm with her pounding heart. It was a nervous tick, and try as she might to conquer it, that stupid foot always gave her anxiety in situations away to people who studied her. As the voice announcing the pairings droned on, Valarie folded her arms and frowned. How she wished this whole thing would hurry up. She supposed she should know who was talking, but really was feeling quite apathetic about the whole thing now that she was present. Despite herself, Valarie let out a drawn out, exasperated sigh.

Emilio was starting to grow tired of looking for his mentor, especially when it appeared everyone else was starting to already find theirs and pair up with them. It would be his luck not to find his, but then again he did kind of lack top social skills when it came to interacting with people in person. He decided to just start asking people if they were the Valarie he was looking for, growing disheartened as he continued coming up empty handed. Spotting a girl who appeared to still be sitting down, he walked over, hands in the pockets of his hoodie. "Are you Valarie?" he questioned, his face looking stoic as always but there seemed to be a slight little gleam of hope that maybe he could finally give up the search. Glancing up at her hair and how bright it was, he seemed to study it for a bit before looking back down at her face,"cool hair, I like it," he complimented and while his face gave away no emotion his tone showed he truly meant what he said about her hair. Oh how he hoped that this girl was his mentor that he was paired up with and not some random person again because he really wanted his search to be over and done with. Because hey, the faster he got this out of the way the faster he could go find a quiet space where he could be alone with just his thoughts and his game.
Standing there as he waited, his hand slid out from his pocket and seemed to instinctively head for the little Rubix cube charm on his chains, messing with it idly as he often would when confronted with having to interact with someone face to face. It was difficult for him at times because he was much more used to talking with people over a headset who he couldn't see. And he honestly preferred that, because sometimes he could just pretend that they weren't actually other people he was talking to. It seemed kind of awful in the long run, but it was how he dealt with having to talk with them some days. That wasn't to say he didn't like or respect them, no that wasn't the case because he liked most people he gamed with on a regular basis and he always did his best to respect everyone he came across. It was how his parents had raised him and he just figured it was a common courtesy type of thing to give people respect. Unless they didn't deserve it because well, then why would they need respect if they didn't even deserve it in the first place? The more lost in his thoughts he became, the faster his fingers worked on putting the cube's squares where they belonged. He wasn't the type of person who could solve it without looking at it, but the young man had solved it on multiple occasions, only to turn right back around and mix it up again for him to mess with another time.

(Sorry, I ended up falling asleep last night! XD
And no worries, it's actually much more natural for shorter posts during conversations, it's seems to flow better)
Imani was apparently a very pessimistic person. Where Gabriella had high hopes for the mentor program, despite her concerns over her assigned mentor, it seemed Imani had already decided that this was not going to go well. Gabriella leaned back slightly, glancing around at the crowd to see if everyone else seemed to share Imani's viewpoint. She certainly saw a few nervous faces, one or two that were bored, but on the whole, everyone seemed fairly eager. Especially the mentors. She couldn't shake the moment of unease that swept through her as she watched mentors join with their students. There was something in their eyes and their smiles that made the hairs on the back of her neck begin to rise. She couldn't quite put her finger on it, but it was just enough to make her uncomfortable.
Perhaps that was what Imani was feeling as well. After all, a look back towards her made her discomfort with the whole situation very clear. She looked like she'd rather be anywhere else and, while Gabriella was still fairly optimistic, that strange moment of discomfort at seeing the mentors had certainly put a little doubt in her mind. Too wrapped up in trying to process and understand what she had just felt, she nearly missed the question.
Blinking a few times, she forced herself out of her head and back into the conversation, "Oh, ah, mentor? Mine is Mr. Ramirez. From what I read, he's a staff member in charge of the equestrian facilities here on campus. Which, if you think about it, is a little odd. I mean, I had assumed that students were going to be the mentors and we'd get staff input from an advisor or something like that. I mean, I'm sure he'll be helpful and super nice, but I'm not sure what I can learn from him if he's not directly involved in my major or even in the curriculum as a whole..." And on and on she went, rambling at an extraordinary speed. Her mind was constantly moving and her speech often grew nonsensical as she suddenly shifted to new trains of thought and cut herself off mid-question as she came up with her own answer.

DMITRI // Dmitri's hands shook violently in the car as his mother drove them in silence to the University. They'd both been silent for the long drive there, and still they stayed silent. Dmitri couldn't usher words from his mouth, and with every fiber of his being wished he could stay with his mother at home and live out a monotonous life. But inside he knew she wouldn't have that, and attending this school would make her happier than she'd been since his father died. Wincing at the thought, Dmitri turned to look outside the window, where mist curled ominously around gnarled trees. It was certainly vampiric all right. Letting out a soft sigh, he turned towards his mother. Once a beautiful, exotic looking woman, she was now marred with scars from the fire. Her lips were drawn in a taut, worried line, wrinkles creasing her face. Dmitri wanted to reassure her, say something, but his mouth wouldn't move. Instead he just looked ahead, letting his mind focus on the quiet music playing in the background. Finally the car stopped and Dmitri looked over at his mom, who still stared absentmindedly ahead of her. He began to get out of the car when he heard her. "I love you." Her voice was raspy, near imperceptible but Dmitri smiled, and his mother smiled back, her fangs dimpling her ruined bottom lip. "I love you too." Dmitri closed the car door, grabbing what little he had from the trunk and solemnly watching his mother drive away. Turning towards the university, he felt a wave of nausea hit him, making him sway on his feet. Shaking his head, Dmitri did his best to stride confidently towards the great doors, opening them with a smile. A new page in his own book. Realizing he was late, Dmitri hurried to Noctem Hall without dropping his things off in the dorms, instead letting his duffel bag sit at his feet. There, they announced the pairings. Dmitri felt a bit sick to his stomach as he watched vampire after vampire be paired with a likely clueless human. He too would be paired with someone, and leaning back in his seat, he wondered who he might get, looking around the great hall. Frowning, Dmitri realized he probably stuck out like a sore thumb, being one of the very few people of color. He felt hotter than usual, hands a bit clammy, and tried to shake off the nerves. He didn't want to prey on an unsuspecting human, but knew he had no choice but to feed. It was a dilemma he'd struggled with for months after he'd been accepted into Caligo, and still struggled with now. He supposed he might figure it out once he actually met the human with whom he was paired with. From his bag, Dmitri pulled a stress ball, which he squeezed intermittently between the announcements of the paired. As extroverted and kind as he may be, this gigantic change in his life was bringing him to the brink of another breakdown. His heart pounded in his chest, and Dmitri did all he could to steady his breathing. The last thing he wanted was another panic attack. With a stress ball in one, the other drumming large fingers on his thigh, Dmitri wondered what his father might do, had he been in this situation.
