Kaimeron had been in front of the mirror for what felt like ages, poking and prodding at every feature of his face as if he could shape it into something new. Eventually he conceded with a sigh and tugged on some old shirt, nothing special, and shared one last glance at himself. He wasn't ready to face another year of feeling out of place, and he wondered if maybe his appearance would be a good start to fix the nagging, ostracized feeling. It wasn't too bad, he countered in his head, since it made him less suspicious to the humans, but it didn't quite feel like he could blend in properly anywhere. Shrugging off the thought, nothing but water off a duck's back, Kaimeron slipped into his shoes and grabbed his phone before heading out the door. His hair was still drying from a shower and had a sort of floofy look to it, like he'd just been rolling around in grass, mussed and sticking up at odd ends. He smoothed it down idly with a hand as he walked towards Noctem Hall and took a seat among the rest of the student body.
Orientation was generally uneventful, as all student functions generally were, but it was the start of Kaimeron's second year and at this point he understood a little bit more of what was going on at Caligo. The pairing system was the first thing that struck him as odd- and once he'd learned of the purpose of it, it was hard to look at the human population of Caligo the same way. He'd raised cattle before, and this was like standing in the slaughterhouse, staring at the living meat right in the eyes. It made him feel a little sick, the way vampires were supposed to treat humans here, but he swallowed his opinions on it. Maybe that was how it was supposed to be, and sure he didn't agree with it, not even a little bit, but it wasn't as if he understood vampire culture much at all. He hated to think that this was how it was in other places too, but he found that he felt a lot better if he didn't think about it at all.
Distracted, Kaimeron glanced down at the hem of his shirt and poked at the frayed ends, head fuzzy with homesick thoughts. The prejudices here, both human and vampire alike, reminded him a bit of home, but at least there folks generally knew not to stick their nose in other people's business. Here, his only support really being Blair, he wasn't very good at ignoring it. She got along with the other vampires better than he did as well, and he was stuck playing a long and painful game of catch-up. He was sort of getting the hang of it, but it scared him more than it comforted. Taking things tiny steps at a time were perfectly fine for him, no matter how curious he was.
Hearing his name called, Kaimeron snapped out of his thoughts and lifted his head, squinting out into the crowd. So many people in one place was overwhelming to the senses and something he wasn't used to, but he was able to pick out this Cassie Reynolds girl out of the crowd when he heard her heart rate spike at the sound of her own name. Smoothing his hair one more time, Kaimeron weaved through the crowd towards her, wracking his brain for eloquent thoughts to say. The pairing system certainly didn't help his awkwardness around girls, but he was determined to not be nervous about it. As he moved, he remembered the whole mind control thing, and while he wasn't much good at it ( he hadn't even known it was a thing until Blair told him, turns out he'd done a few things subconsciously but his family was full of stubborn folk that didn't break ), he still tried his best. In the most subtle of ways, of course- he just sort of always gave off a pleasant aura and a calm feeling, even when he wasn't thinking about it.
Approaching her, Kaimeron tucked one hand in the pocket of his jeans and stuck the other out in greeting, a sweet lopsided smile lighting up his features. "Hey there, you're Cassie right? I'm Kaimeron, looks like I'm your ambassador. I'll be honest, I ain't all that knowledgeable, but if you ever need help on somethin' you can always ask me," he said, his voice coming out in a smooth southern drawl. It became obvious to him now that he towered over her in height, but he tried his best not to come off as intimidating, a bit of a sheepish look on his face.
