{ phew! ngl this took me a bit! }Strangely, Sid wasn’t thinking of Celesse.
She always thought of Celesse when she was in the greenhouse. Thoughts of her family had subsided as her days at Caligo tallied up. But the greenhouse brought a resurgence of memories without fail. Long July days spent stealing low-hanging peaches. Dipping her toes in the garden’s resident koi pond, watching with wonder and delight as gaping-mouthed, calico-scaled carp fled from the ripples. Cupping fireflies in her hands and peering curiously at them through her cage of fingers. Saying grace around a table brimming with family and food alike. She was never hungry. Her grandmother used to scold her something awful when Sid tried to slip away from a plate still piled high with green beans the color of summer and mashed potatoes gone cold and stuffing with only a bite or two missing.
“That child's ribs would make a fine xylophone.” Sid had overheard her grandmother whisper harshly to her father.
“She likes the peach pie. And the strawberry cheesecake,” her father had countered.
“Pies and cakes put fat where muscle should be.” A long pause. “But if it puts something on those bones then I’ll make more.”
The conversation had stung, but it was nothing new. There was always something wrong with Sid. She was either too much or too little. Too curious. Too skinny. Too pale. Too quiet. But Celesse. Celesse had always been just right. Her grandmother never worried about Celesse eating too much or not enough. Her sister never seemed to gain or lose weight in either circumstance anyway. Whatever hushed conversation Sid managed to catch between her grandma and father concerning Celesse were always glowing with approval.
“She’s a pretty one.”
“So clever, so bright.”
“What a talented child, she is.”
The praise wasn’t unearned, of course. Celesse deserved every bit of it. She was pretty and bright and talented. Best of all, she adored Sid as much as Sid adored her. It wasn’t that Sid wasn’t fond of her other siblings. As the second oldest of the Springer children and the eldest daughter, Celesse was destined for great things. And she had promised to share all those things with Sid. And now, Sid planned on returning the favor now that she was a member of Caligo’s elite student body. Nothing could steal the joy of suddenly being the bright and talented one away from her.
This time, however, was different.
The girl lounged languidly between the rows of greenery. Many of the plants were finally ripe with the fruits of their potential. A few watermelons leftover from late summer crouched beneath their broad leaves and tangled vines. The few pumpkins the greenhouse hosted flashed vibrant orange among all the emerald foliage. It was here that Sid made herself comfortable, staring down at a notebook riddled with pictures of bones and notes. An odd feeling had settled in her chest. Where thoughts of Celesse and her family should have occupied her mind, Sid found herself thinking of Artistide and her recent nightmares.
The art history professor was easily Sid’s closest—and perhaps only—friend. Her fondness for him had grown like dandelions: quickly and in abundance. Lately, she’d seen a change in him. The transformation was a crawl, but undeniable. There was a lethargy to Artistide. A darkness painted the undersides of his eyes. His cheeks were sunken. His gaze had lost its brightness. He reminded her of a sputtering flame reaching the end of its wick. It scared her. Fiercely. Horribly.
Or maybe I’m paranoid. Maybe my nightmares are twisting reality.
It was true Sid had lost a fair amount of sleep. Bruise-colored shadows clung to her own eyes and weariness plagued her every step. There was the chance Artistide was fine. That his decreasing health was figment dreamed up by her imagination.
But she didn’t believe that. She couldn’t believe that.
All hope of studying for her anatomy quiz abandoned, Sid rose to her feet and brushed the dirt from her skirt. She didn’t have any classes today and—aside from her futile attempts to study—her schedule was free. Decision made, she left the greenhouse with a single destination in mind: Artistide. She hoped he’d be in his study, but for all she knew he was already in the infirmary. Her heart raced in her chest as Sid neared Creperum. A great deal of thoughts were already storming through her head, warring for her attention.
Should I even be here?
It’s not too late to turn back.
Maybe I should just go.
What am I even going to say?
There was so much she wanted to ask him about, tell him about. Her nightmares. His health. Her—No. Not that last one. Never that last one. That thought wasn’t even worth finishing. She’d grown to trust Artistide Penbrandt, yes. Trust him. Admire him. But her feelings for him had grown like dandelions: quickly, in abundance, and undesired. Their relationship was strictly mentor and apprentice, student and professor. Nothing more. Never anything more.
Sid composed herself—or attempted to, at least. Her heartbeat still thundered against her will, but otherwise, Sid appeared calm on the surface. Just a student worried for her professor. Nothing more. Never anything more. Before she knew it, she was standing before Artistide’s door. Steadying her breathing. Quieting her heart. She knocked. Once. Just a student. Twice. Worried about. Thrice. Her teacher. Her mentor. Her friend. “Artistide?” She called, hoping the heavy antique door wouldn’t muffle her voice, “Are you there? I wanted to talk to you about something.”
Something, but what? What did she want to talk about? Would it be considered polite to breach the topic of his health? Maybe not. Especially not if it was merely a product of her own lack of sleep. Than perhaps it was better to start with that subject matter. However, the topic of Sid’s recurring dream wasn’t something she was sure she wanted to discuss. It was a sensitive, childish matter. A nineteen year old girl—an adult in the eyes of the law—having nightmares?Absurd!
But these dreams in particular were old. Residue leftover from years ago suddenly deciding to make a reappearance. Sid steeled herself. Either way, she wasn’t leaving until she had a chance to see him. Just a brief glance was all she really needed. Something to let her know he was fine, everything was fine. That’s what Sid told herself, at least.

Cam Ricci
Cam hated early morning classes with a passion. The alarm always went off at an ungodly hour so she was forced to sacrifice beauty sleep, and then she had to get around all while still fuzzy from her blissful dreams. After she made sure she looked cute, she had to go grab a bite to eat and head to classbefore the sun rose in the sky. It just wasn't natural to be up so early, to interrupt sleep for such a mundane thing was schooling. Luckily for her, Cam only had one morning class this semester, but that didn't mean she didn't take every opportunity to grumble to herself.
On her way to class, she popped her earbuds in her ears. Careful to not mess up her hair, she adjusted the straps on her simple pink backpack to where they sat even across her shoulders. The music started playing a second later and she smiled as she waltzed down the sidewalk, trying to mask her disdain for early mornings. The campus wasn't horribly big and she arrived in front of gothic style lecture hall promptly. Quickly, she climbed the stairs and entered the building.
Students filled in behind her. Cam slipped the earbuds off and checked the time only realize that she was over ten minutes early. Her eyebrows shot up. She was never early. Quite the opposite actually. She like to think of herself as one of those people that just ran on a different clock then everyone else. It appeared her clock had fixed itself slightly. Shrugging, she sat down on a bench just short of the lecture hall's main doors. Some of the students greeted her as they walked past and she gave a short reply, sometimes a wink if the boy was attractive enough.
As she people gazed, it occurred to her that she hadn't seen her Chosen in days. Just the thought of him and his sweet blood make her mouth water and her teeth ache with longing. Cam bit her lip, one of her canine's puncturing the tender flesh. She tried to shake the feeling of wanting to see him, to be near him, but to no avail. Silently, she watched as vampires and humans alike trotted past her into the lecture hall. Maybe he would come to this class? Truthfully she had only attended the class twice in the month that school had been in session. The first time was because she had to be there for attendance and the second time.... well, there had been a party the night before and she still couldn't remember what had happened that night.
The intercon clicked. The warning sign that class would start promptly in two minutes. Cam groaned and stood from the bench, her shirt fluttering as she did. Stragglers rushed into the hall after her and before she knew it, class had started.

Vison sat beneath a tree, looking visibly upset, but should anyone ask he'd sit and insist that he was simply fine and force a smile. He was upset because well, this was starting to turn into a mess for him as far as he was conceded. He had no issues in stealing from other people, none at all, it was why he had no issue in stealing blood from other people's Chosens. But usually he also had his own to feed from, it was what also helped in keeping him to limited amounts from others. However, he still was left without a Chosen of his own and was hungry, starving was more like it. Sure, he'd probably managed to make a couple other little connections with other Chosens and managed to get snacks here and there from them, snacking and feeding were certainly two different things. And snacking didn't fill him up. So he was left starving most days, and it was starting to effect his mood. He was snippy with his little group of friends he'd made, and it made him feel bad because they were pretty cool people. But he couldn't help it, he was just so hungry. With a sigh he leaned his head back, trying to come up with something. This hunger was eventually going to make him restless, irrational, and reckless. And that was a huge no go for him. If he got reckless and another vampire finally caught on that he was stealing from them, he could only imagine what that would mean for him. "I'm going to starve to death at school," he muttered, running his hands through his hair a few times. "I'm so dead," he put his face in his hands, trying to ignore his hunger pains he was having. If he was going to die, he supposed he might as well see if he couldn't get a letter to his parents before he wasted away to nothing. At this point murder was even starting to look like a good option, just murder off a fellow vampire and take his Chosen and there, he'd have a guaranteed meal. Usually murder never even crossed his mind, but now? With as hungry as he was on a constant basis he was ready to murder someone, one of his own kind.
"This certainly blows," he mumbled into his hands with a sigh, rubbing his face before sitting back against the trunk of the tree, the hard bark digging into his back through his coat. Murky eyes stared out ahead of him, taking in everything before him while at the same time seeing nothing. Death by starvation, at a school of all things, who would have guessed that that was the way he was going to die. He had hoped it would have been something cool way way down the line. There was so much he still needed to do and accomplish in his long, long life. "On the bright side though," he grumbled,"it seems everyone here is so incredibly straight so at least I don't have to worry about anyone falling in love with me and missing me when I perish," he sighed, practically throwing himself to the grass and lying there with the back of a hand resting against his forehead dramatically. "I'm going to die alone, tree, you are my only companion now. Well, you and the other three, my friends. Okay so it's you and me and them tree, that's it. Except I guess right now it'd just be and you, I haven't seen my friends yet today so if I were to die right here and right now, you would be the only one to know it." He paused, looking up at the leaves, watching the branches and tracing their designs with his eyes. "I've lost it, I've completely lost it, I'm talking to a tree."

Dmitri had been at Caligo for just about a month now and while he loved it, the whole human vampire relationship drove him up the walls. He sat outside on a carved stone bench, basking in the sunlight, masculine face turned upwards towards the sun. It was a more rare sunny day, he thought to himself, as usually the mist hung around well into the late morning. This morning, however, the sun had burnt off the shroud of mist, leaving the forest open and removing the eerie darkness that had hung between trees just hours earlier. Dmitri spent as much time as he could out here, hot or cold, rain or shine. Just breathing the fresh air put his nerves at ease. Previously he remembered feeding on many people, all just once, travellers who passed in and out of town. Sitting on the bench, Dmitri pondered his situation now. Now everything was more personal. It was a single person who had little idea what they were truly there for, or at least very little understanding. Dmitri had been avoiding feeding as much as possible, eluding the pangs of hunger that often ripped at his stomach. He'd been alright thus far, but lately the hunger had been more fervent in its cries. He knew his Chosen's name, what she looked like and yet every time he'd pass her, Dmitri would avert his eyes and steer clear. He knew, of course, he was just delaying the inevitable. Standing up, Dmitri took one more long breath of fresh air before going back inside Umbra. There, both Humans and Vampires bustled around, though the hall seemed fairly devoid since many were in classes at the moment. Dmitri himself was supposed to be in class, but having felt an incoming anxiety attack, he'd skipped, and instead spent his morning where he felt most at home. There, he felt the anxiety creeping back up upon him just watching his own kind interact with the humans. To him, their efforts were painfully obvious, though he wondered how the vampire charm worked in the eyes of humans. Shaking his head, Dmitri headed back to his dorm, smiling at passing people and making small talk with a few he shared classes with. As anxious as he may be about everything, Dmitri was going to try to make the most out of his university experiences. After all, he was an extrovert. Opening the dorm door, Dmitri slumped on his bed, staring emptily at the ceiling. After a few minutes, he groaned, rolling over and picking up his old decrepit flip phone and a pair of headphones that had been haphazardly duck taped together in several areas. Pushing the control pad down and the select button several times Dmitri let out a satisfied huff as music hit his ears -- or one ear, the right ear cup just kind of made quiet dying screams. Nodding his head to the beat, Dmitri got back up, heading towards Noctem hall hoping to find some food. Perhaps it wouldn't sate his appetite for blood, but at least it gave him something to do and proved a distraction from his stomach. As he walked, Dmitri lost himself in his thoughts, accidentally bumping into several people, muttering half apologies as he continued to stroll by. He was in luck, there was some breakfast left and Dmitri snagged some food before sitting down and picking at the food as his phone cycled through his playlist several times.
