Flare could hear them whispering but couldn't make out the words. He knew it was about him. He thought back to when he was first exiled from his tribe. They were all whispering about him then, too. Calling him the Omen. He looked up at Kaitlyn, wondering when he would start to learn from the skilled girl.

Realizing he could have denied the accusation and maybe walked away unscathed, Vince growled again, half at his own stupidity. There was no getting out of it now, he let his temper get the best of him and spilled the truth to them. The only way there was was to run in an attempt to lose them, and shift to his human form before they found them again. After all, they didn't know him through his human form, only his anthro form. But even trying that gave slim chances of success, he'd just be found again eventually, and he hated being in his human form for long periods of time if he could help it.
"I'm not goin' anywhere lads", he said sternly. The hyena may have been a guard a while, but he recognized the other two as being new recruits from when he was still a guard, and knew they didn't have much skill. Saber was either low, or desparate for guards to hide behind. "When 'ya gonna realize that Saber's just usin' 'ya? He's a coward hidin' behind you all. What has he done f'er 'ya? What has he done f'er y'er families 'n friends? What has he done to benefit you 'n not 'imself?", he said.

"None of that matters!" The hyena barked. "Saber pays us well and that's all we need. Right, boys?" He looked over his shoulder at the other guards behind him, and they all laughed together. "And you're a fool for leaving. Do you like being poor? You are nothing but street scum!" During his last sentence he had drawn his blade. He was shorter than Vince, so he aimed an upward diagonal cut near his midsection.
Jag kicked a giant foot at one of the hyena's guard friends, sending him reeling backwards. "Stop this nonsense, he is a guard, like us!" Jag scolded him. The guard snickered back at him, "Not anymore, now he's a felon! And you're crossing the law to stop us."

The hyena's eyes grew wide as pain shot through his side. He howled, every ounce of pride and arrogance now gone. "How.. dare you? I am a guard!" He transformed fully into his anthro form and bit Vince's shoulder with razor-sharp teeth.
(He thinks he's so entitled xD )

Vincent winced when his shoulder was bitten into, but was able to maintain his grips. "Yeah?", he had to snicker. "Well, b'cause me staged death was unofficial...", he let a toothy grin in a snarl spread across his face as he spoke. "So am I!", he added, just before he locked his jaws onto the hyena's neck, and used his size as an advantage to bring him down to the ground, still holding the hyena in his teeth, and he used his claws with his free paw to tear into the hyena's muzzle and face, other paw still gripping the hilt of his sword that was stuck in the hyena's side.
(Probably not the best to think around Vince XD)

(Probably not the best to think around Vince XD) The other guards that Jag was fighting stopped in their tracks and looked at their beloved leader in horror. Immediately they turned tail and scampered away. Jag saw them running and was not surprised by their cowardice when he noticed what state their leader was in. He began to clean off his sword, confident that Vix didn't need his help to finish this battle. The hyena was in a state of frenzy and panic. He lived such a soft life, beating down on peasants whenever he pleased. Now he was the one being struck down. He couldn't do anything except submit under the weight of his enemy. And with the fox's jaws still wrapped around his throat, he knew he wasn't going to last much longer. Instinctively he had dropped his sword, and his claws were weakly scrabbling against Vince's pelt as he tried hopelessly to weasel out of the fox's iron jaws.

Vince wasn't often one to kill his enemies, especially not after seeing his father take his last breath in front of him, which left a scar on his consciousness. Ravage was an exception, even though it hurt at the end when he learned the rat was his father's best friend. So instead, he quickly let go, grabbed the hyena by his tunic and picked him up, then slammed him into a wall while holding him in the air, just a few inches above the ground.
"Do I 'ave y'er mind changed yet laddie!?", Vincent growled as he looked the hyena straight in the eye. "You don' 'ave what it takes 'ta be a guard! This is what life is truly like! N' the worst part is Saber don' care 'bout ch'ya! All you are is a pawn, 'n y'er pay comes from taxin' these poor folk that can barely fend f'er 'emselves!", he said to him. He let a moment pass by the allow the hyena's mind to process his words before speaking again. "I can make 'ya a deal lad. Either I can kill 'ya now, 'n that'll be the end of it, or I can leave 'ya to die when the villagers finally fight back. 'N if you don' like either of those options, then I'll give 'ya a second chance 'n let 'ya join our revolt. You 'ave thirty seconds to make 'yer choice b'fer I end you", he said, growling at the end.

His heart was beating so hard he could barely hear himself think. "DO 'YA SWEAR IT?!", Vince snarled in a yell, letting his temper take over again. His temper was innate, but he also learned most of it from his father, who more times than once came home as mad as a steamed vegetable when he either lost in a gamble or crossed paths with a guard beating another peasant, and although his father was able to manage his anger and lighten up around Vince, it was needless to say that Vince never learned to so the same. Then again, his father died when he was still very young, and he had no one else, so there was nobody that cared enough for him to lighten up around. He brought the hyena down so his feet were touching the ground but still had a hold of his tunic, and he slammed the small guard into the wall once more. "If you crawl y'er sorry arse to Saber 'bout us, I'll make sure I personally get to be the one that rips y'er head off!", Vince growled again, keeping stern, hard and steady eye contact with the hyena. Then it occurred to him. The dog. Where was the dog? The one that called himself Serius? He disappeared when Vince had his back turned and the fox was just now realizing it. He turned his head to Jag.
"Where's the mutt?!", he asked.

"Y'know, I suppose we lost him just before we went into the barracks. I think?" Jag responded in his deep voice. He put his sword back into his hilt. "If we're done here" -he looked at the pathetic hyena- "we'd better find that dog! He'll alert the king about us!"

Follow me, we'll go learn the simple things first," she began exiting the cave into the clearing. Upon getting there, she began drawing out a star with a stick. She lit a fire by one point, a puddle of water by one, a pile of dirt by the other, kept one blank, and set a jar down at the very top point that had what looked like a firefly inside of it. "Can you identify each of these?" She asked. It was simple, really. The five elements that magic used the most.

"He probably done gone told 'im already...", Vince said as he shook his head negatively, then let go of the hyena's tunic. He still had yet to retrieve his sword from the hyena's side, so he grabbed the hilt firmly and readied to remove it. "This may hurt. A lot", he warned the hyena, but before there could be protest he quickly withdrew the sword from the hyena's side, dropping his sword and putting pressure on the wound with one paw to cease the bleeding and took out a spare roll of gauze from a pouch he had with the other paw and began treating the wound.
"Best thing 'ta do now would be to hide in plain sight. I still have me old guard uniform, I can dig it out 'n fix it up. With it Saber may not know the difference", he said, to nobody in particular but to Jag if he was listening.

All she'd bought this time was an apple which she began nibbling on as she made her way back to the tavern. She was a bit too lost in thought and didn't see Fayne in time to walk around him, instead tripping over him with a yelp and barely managing to catch herself before she landed flat on her face. Standing up quickly, she spun around to face him with wide eyes. "Good grief, sorry! I didn't see you there," she said quickly.

The fox-- was helping him? The hyena's head swam with confusion, but before he could come to a conclusion he passed out on the ground. Jag shook his head. What was he thinking? He's so tiny compared to me and Vix. It's kind of pathetic. But, does he really deserve much sympathy after all the dishonorable acts he's done under the name of a guard? Vince's speaking interrupted Jag's train of thought. He looked down at the Vince, who was still treating the hyena's wound. "Guard uniform? Now that you mention it, the uniforms have been the same design for years so it should work. But what will the villagers say? They all know you're the town's best blacksmith." (pancaked xD )

Kaitlyn simply smiled, not at all annoyed. "Fire, water, earth, air, and a soul." She gestured to each one respectably. The jar did indeed have a soul in it, but who's was unknown. "Five main components of magic." She said, "step inside the star, and try to do something. Anything." Flare stepped back. "A soul?" That didn't sound anything like the kind of magic he'd seen the elders at his village practicing. But now that he thought of it, he did see them meditating a lot. And he recalled hearing stories about wizards who only practice magic with a staff. Perhaps there are different kinds of magic to wield? What's the difference, really? This kind of magic, that kind of magic. As long as I learn to control these blasted flames, I really don't care what kind I learn! Flare realized he was daydreaming and had to move quickly for fear of irritating Kaitlyn; without her help, he was hopeless. He stepped inside the star. Flare took a deep breath and raised his paw slowly, hoping that something would happen.

Because I feel like she's in anthro but I don't want to be wrong xD ) Fayne yelped in surprise as a figure came out of nowhere and tripped over him. Immediately he had forgotten about his troubles and jumped up to help them, but they were so swift that they picked themself up before he could do anything. As soon as she stood up, Fayne resolved that the figure was a beautiful lady, perhaps a few years older than himself. "Are you okay? I didn't know my tail could cause so much damage!" he laughed. An apple rolling around on the ground caught his eye; he rushed to it, scooped it up and investigated it, but wasn't looking too edible by the amount of dirt it picked up from the road. "I'm sorry about your apple, miss." he said, turning to her. "Would you like one of mine?" He offered, pulling an apple out of his bag and holding it out to her. It was the last piece of food he had, but he wasn't about to tell her that. (I swear, this is the third woman that's accidentally tripped into Fayne, haha! I think he's... a lady killer xD -bad jokes with Fern- xD )
