“I’m always ready to go.” Dawnpaw chuckled, looking at Sunthroat with a respectful dip of his head. “Scarletpaw’s in a mood. Let me guess, she did sneak out of camp last night?” He asked with a knowing and slightly exasperated sigh. “Mom looked really cross when she left for patrol, I don’t want to be on the end of Vixenrose’s wrath.” He shuddered, knowing how stern their mother could be when she was angry or protective.

Blizzardstorm nodded to Willowsong and the new apprentices as he entered the sandy hollow with Flurrypaw. "We'll just have to work extra hard then on your battle moves coming up here so maybe you win once or twice against Dawnpaw then. Might not happen this session, but I'm sure you'll have a chance for a rematch."
Willowsong watched calmly as the sandy hollow filled up with mentors and apprentices alike. Her heart swelled with affection for her clan. She found that she had missed training in the past few moons since Autumnfall had been made a warrior. She was glad she got to use her skills again to show Pebblepaw everything she knew. "Peachdapple and Aspenfall often have their paws full, especially in leaf-bare. We got lucky this season though, no big outbreaks of green-cough or any other sicknesses."

"Are those common here as well then?" Pebblepaw inquired.
"I don't see why they wouldn't be." Mistpaw's tail whisked in the air. "Cats get the same diseases all the time. It's part of life."

Lightningstar looked at Ghostscreech as he came up. “You go on ahead. Us old cats will be right behind you.” He spoke with a nudge towards Yarrowcloud. He looked at his first apprentice for a long moment before sighing. “That may have once been true.” He admitted. “But not so much anymore.” He spoke. “I fear my time is drawing to a close.”
Silentflare kept his eyes on her, watching her reaction to him. “I don’t care you weren’t alone. You shouldn’t have been out of camp without a warrior.” He spoke. “Especially not with these strange creatures Riverclan scented.”

Willowsong looked saddened as she nodded her head. "Peachdapple and Aspenfall do a great job of using their herbs to help heal as many cats as they can, but older cats or cats who hide their illnesses for too long sometimes don't recover. They're safe in Starclan though, guiding us along our way."

I know she doesn’t because it breaks her heart as deeply as it’ll break mine.” He chuckled, though there was a hollow undertone there. “Can I admit? A part of me hopes I go before you do, just so I don’t have to lose the closest thing to a father I ever had. And some days… A part of me feels like it’s my time soon too.” Yarrowcloud looked at Lightningstar, mewing with convition. “You will always be my leader, and my mentor. Nothing will ever take that away from me. I just… I hope I’ve been able to show that to you, that you know that.”

Ghostscreech gave a nod and slipped out of camp, heading towards the Sandy Hollow. Once he had reached it, he moved over to sit beside Mistpaw, Pebblepaw and Willowsong. “We’re just waiting for a few more to arrive before we can begin.” He said to them, glancing around the training area and glad to see that almost everyone was there. Ghostscreech looked back at Mistpaw, “Sorry I couldn’t lead you here myself. I needed to make sure everything was taken care of back at camp.”
Hollowpaw huffed, moving to walk past her mentor, “Whatever. We haven’t even come across that same scent in our territory, RiverClan was probably just making it up.” She grumbled, heading to the camp entrance. Of course Silentflare didn’t even care about the fact that she had managed to catch her first prey. Why would he? He didn’t even seem to care to be her mentor.
Sunthroat’s whiskers twitched in amusement as he slipped out of camp and started for the Sandy Hollow, “I’m sure your sister can handle it. Scarletpaw has a tendency to use some sharp words herself if I recall correctly.” He said, glancing back at Dawnpaw.

“Yeah… she does.” Dawnpaw admitted with a sheepish laugh, before he followed after his mentor and sighed lightly. “I love my siblings, I really do! It’s just, sometimes they’re so blunt or make assumptions that aren’t true! It’s like… I think they don’t like me, because I’m not that same way. I just want to be a good Warrior. Like at the last gathering, oh, Sunthroat, I almost hid in my own pelt when Scarletpaw and Tigerpaw started arguing with the Shadowclan apprentices. I was so embarrassed!” He admitted.

Silentflare hurried after her when she stormed off, moving once again to get infront of her. “I didn’t say we were done talking.” He spoke. “Now if you’d rather change the elders den instead of going to this training session..” he warned. “Hollowpaw you can’t just sneak out of camp. What if you got hurt?”
Lightningstar looked at Yarrowcloud for a long time before speaking. “Yarrowcloud…” he sighed softly. “Don’t say that. You should be the one out living me.” He spoke, shaking his head. “You know I see you like a son.. I have ever since you were my apprentice.” He spoke. “You’ve always made me proud.” He spoke.

Sunthroat rested his tail tip on Dawnpaw’s shoulder, giving him a reassuring look, “Yes, that gathering was… interesting to say the least. Tensions were running high because of the fire, with Cedarstar’s announcement about Fourtrees, it was bound to cause some arguments.” He said, pausing as they reached the Sandy Hollow. “Don’t worry, I’m sure you’ll work everything out with your siblings when the time comes.”
Hollowpaw stopped when Silentflare stood in front of her again, her fur bristling at his suggestion of cleaning out the elder’s den, “What, you mean like how I’ve been doing almost this entire moon since I’ve become an apprentice? At this rate, Squirreltail’s kits will become warriors long before I ever get the chance.” She snapped, tail lashing. “And I didn’t get hurt! I was fine because I can take care of myself, thank you very much.”

Yarrowcloud was silent for a moment, though it was clear that the impact of Lightningstar’s words were visible. It was as though a painful weight was lifted from him, and suddenly he felt that he had finally done what he had been holding onto life so hard for. He blinked, before he spoke, his voice rusty with both emotion and age. “…That’s all I’ve ever wanted to hear. I never wanted to be the biggest, or the strongest, or have nine lives… I just wanted to be good enough to make my father proud… It took me a while to realize that it was you who I wanted to be good enough for. I wish I could be the same apprentice I was, but I…” He hesitated. “I’ve been tired for such a long time. I’m not unhappy anymore, but I’m so tired. I miss my body being mine, and I miss… I miss this.” He looked towards the entrance of the sandy hollow, where they were approaching. “Thank you for loving me when I needed it, Lightningstar. No matter which of us may go first. You made it better.” He chuckled lightly, trying not to sound as emotional as he felt, hearing the words making his body feel lighter and his heart sing with fulfillment.

Realization washed over Lightningstar in that moment. He was quiet, letting Yarrowcloud speak. After a few moments he answered him. “You’ve always made me proud. I didn’t tel you enough but I’ve always been proud.” He spoke. “And one day we will both run through the fields of starclan together. Neither of us old or in pain.” He said with a sigh. He moved to push through into the sandy hollow, letting the conversation die down.
Silentflare stared at her a long time before snapping back at her. “I’m sorry that your training is going slower then your siblings. We have other challenges to work through.” He spoke. “But that doesn’t mean you get to have a bad attitude and disobey me.”

“I hope so.” Dawnpaw stretched his legs as they entered the hollow. He muttered coldly. “Everything went to shambles when Shadeclaw took over. Now Sparrowstrike is gone, and mom’s still a mess about it… I can tell she doesn’t sleep well sometimes. I just… I wish everything didn’t have to be a battle, or a competition.” He shook the saddened thoughts away. “Sorry. I’m bringing the mood down, and we’re training, not dwelling.”

I look forward to running again.” He followed Lightningstar’s lead, the conversation dying down naturally as he genuinely felt much happier. Now, he felt like he could really enjoy this training session, and seeing the apprentices learn from their mentors. “Sorry we’re late! This dead thing drags me back a few paces. Hope you don’t mind if this old badger watches how well you’re all doing!” Yarrowcloud laughed brightly to the cats in the clearing. Frostmoon turned to look at the entering cats, having already quickly ushered Patchpaw to the sandy hollow. She sat beside her apprentice, waving her tail to the elder. “Grandfather came too!” Flurrypaw exclaimed excitedly to Blizzardstorm as he scented his scent leading towards the Sandy Hollow. “Well now I absolutely have to win, if he’s watching too!”

Sunthroat gave a shake of his head, “No need to be sorry. We can always talk about this later if you want, for now, let’s focus on your training. I have a sneaking suspicion that we will be working on some advanced moves today.” He said, nudging Dawnpaw into the Sandy Hollow. Sunthroat settled down close by the other mentors once they joined the others.
“I’m starting to think that my blindness is more of a challenge to you than it is to me.” Hollowpaw growled, pushing past her mentor and racing out of camp, her nose and paws leading her to the Sandy Hollow. There was no way she was going to let Silentflare keep her from this training session and be stuck doing even more chores in the camp. She was meant to be a warrior! Not some personal den cleaner! She slowed once she reached the training hollow, trying to slow her breathing as she entered. She searched out the scent of Scarletpaw, weaving through the other apprentices and mentors with ease.

I just realized that Flurrypaw and Blizzardstorm are distantly related cuz Shadowblossom and Blizzardstorm are cousins :3 )
Blizzardstorm dipped his head to Yarrowcloud and Lightningstar as they arrived, eager to figure out exactly what Ghostscreech had planned. "Do your best Flurrypaw! That's all I can ask."
Willowsong smiled at Ghostscreech as he settled down beside them, "I took care of them, no worries Ghostscreech." she mewed batting her eyes at him.

Lightningstar moved to settled down in a quiet area of the sandy hollow. He didn’t want to get in the way of the session. He was interested to see a few different things, how the apprentices were coming along and how Ghostscreech ran the session.
Silentflare growled in annoyance when she took off. That stubborn she-cat! How in starclan was he suppose to handle this? He hurried after her, fuming. He didn’t know what to do.
Tigerpaw and Patchpaw sat chattering away like squirrels. The two toms excited to start the session.

“Advanced moves?” Dawnpaw gave a look of delight, happy at the prospect of getting to learn such moves from Sunthroat. He perked up as he slipped into sandy hollow.
“I’ll make you proud!” Flurrypaw decided as he purred to Blizzardstorm, looking around sandy hollow with excitement.
Scarletpaw rolled her eyes as Dawnpaw and Sunthroat entered the hollow, though her attention was quickly drawn to Hollowpaw padding quickly towards her. Scarletpaw’s eyes flickered with surprise as she noticed the tension radiating off of her. Scarletpaw scowled. “What happened? Did Silentflare say something to you? I swear, I’ll split his whiskers if you want me to, just ask!” She promised, brushing her tail up to pull Hollowpaw next to her.
Frostmoon felt her attention draw to Willowsong and Ghostscreech as they talked, her heart aching as she noticed how comfortable they seemed to be. She felt that shock of awkward loneliness she usually felt, but she knew Patchpaw was the important thing here. She sat close to her apprentice, glad to see that he and Tigerpaw seemed to be getting along well with eachother.
Drizzlepaw snuck quietly into the sandy hollow, shyly looking around and giving a soft sigh. There were so many apprentices, and she knew she’d just make a fool of herself! She slunk quietly towards an empty spot near Patchpaw and Tigerpaw, eyes trained on her paws.

Hollowpaw sat down beside Scarletpaw with a huff, forcing her fur to lie flat again, “It’s fine. I don’t want you to get into any trouble because of me.” She said, shaking her head in frustration. “He only scolded me for going out alone and he threatened me with more cleaning chores if I didn’t watch my attitude. Not like I’m doing that enough already.” Hollowpaw grunted.
Ghostscreech gave Willowsong a light smile, “Thank you, I do appreciate it.” He said before turning his attention to Lightningstar and Yarrowcloud when they arrived, “Good. We’re all here. Let’s get started then.” Ghostscreech stood from his spot and moved to stand in front of everyone, ready to explain how the training session will go. “We’ll be splitting into two groups today. One will go hunting, the other will stay here for battle training. I want the hunting group to focus on tracking and stalking. There will be many new scents in the twolegplace, and it will be confusing and difficult to pick out at first, so I would also like for them to work on having them familiarize each prey scent. And for the battle training, first we will demonstrate some battle moves and have you practice them for a bit before we pair you up with each other for some mock sparring. At Sunhigh, the two groups will switch, hunting will come battle and battle will go hunting.” He began, watching the gathered mentors and apprentices closely. Ghostscreech knew that the Sandy Hollow would be too crowded for all of the rather large group, so he felt this would be the best way to make the training session more effective. “I will assign three mentors for each group. I will stay here with Blizzardstorm and Silentflare, and the apprentices staying will be Scarletpaw, Dawnpaw, Yellowpaw, Patchpaw, Hollowpaw and Mistpaw. Sunthroat, Willowsong and Frostmoon will be helping with the hunting group, and the remaining apprentices will be going along with you.”

"Sounds like a real pain in the tail... did he say anything about the prey you caught? Surely he had to realize that you caught all that prey on your first go!" Scarletpaw whispered sharply, affronted for Hollowpaw's sake. It was the constant chores that made Hollowpaw feel so useless in the first place! Scarletpaw had half a mind to let her opinions out right to Silentflare's face, though Ghostscreech's assignment stopped her. Instead, she whispered. "Well, at least we'll be doing our training together. All you have to do is show him that you can land some blows... has he taught you any fighting moves yet?"
Frostmoon was a bit terse that she wouldn't be monitoring Patchpaw's battle training. She was protective over her position as his mentor, and a part of her always feared that he would prefer a more experienced mentor, but she knew that speaking out would put her in an awkward and argumentative position, so she bit her tongue and glanced at Patchpaw with a look of promise that she would check up on his performance when she could.
"I guess I'm hunting without you." Flurrypaw looked up at Blizzardstorm with a hint of disappointment, though he quickly perked and promised. "I'll catch you something then, I promise!"
Yarrowcloud watched Ghostscreech organize the training session, a small grin crossing his face as he murmured quietly to Lightningstar. "I can see why you made him your deputy. Seems to be getting the hang of organizing and leading pretty well. Here's to hoping the more prickly apprentices will respect that organization." He admitted, glancing knowingly at some of the apprentices. For all of Duskstar's cons, Yarrowcloud did remember how effective of a deputy she had been. And when Lightningstar had become her deputy, it was clear she had wanted a cat as equally organized and focused as she had been. Suddenly, he missed her, and hoped Duskstar had proven herself to be accepted by Starclan again after she had left Thunderclan to Lightningstar, to make sure that she wouldn't lean them to join Adderclan instead.

Blizzardstorm blinked, surprised that he would be separated from Flurrypaw to start, but nodded. He supposed it would be nice for his apprentice to get feedback from another cat. Everyone had different advice to give after all. He tapped his tail to Flurrypaw's shoulder, "Good luck, I'll see you for the second half."
Willowsong seemed to deflate a bit at the news that she would be separated from Ghostscreech, but she knew the deputy valued her hunting skills so it would make sense that she would be in charge of helping the apprentices with their hunting. She gave a quick nod to Ghostscreech looking over the clearing to make eye contact with Frostmoon. A small sense of rivalry flashed through her as she looked at the other she-cat who also seemed to be so close to Ghostscreech. It wasn't her nature to have ill-will towards other cats though so she would just do her best to focus on training Pebblepaw.

"See you!" Flurrypaw purred, fluffing out his coat against the last remains of the leafbare winds. Tigerpaw had the advantage here, being the first apprentice to go to Twolegplace. He wanted to see how well the older tom could hunt because of it. Surely, Tigerpaw learned some good hunting techniques from Flurrypaw's father.
Frostmoon felt eyes on her, though she was a bit confused and a bit stiff that it seemed to be Willowsong's eyes on her. She turned her head to look right back at the other she-cat with an expressionless face, not sure how to respond to the look besides just... staring back, she supposed. Was Willowsong angry with her? Just looking around? Frostmoon cursed inwardly, wishing she was better at just knowing what to do when eyes were on her. She decided to lift her tail and wave it in a slow and awkward greeting, before she flicked her ears. There. That was good, right?

Mistpaw and Pebblepaw touched noses and then joined their respective mentors. Mistpaw silently sat near Ghostscreech, tail tucked neatly beneath her paws. He's a strong cat; the others have a lot of respect for him... I wonder if the Clan will ever treat me like that?
"I've yet to catch anything beyond a few bugs," Pebblepaw excitedly mewed to Willowsong, "but I, of course, never ate those. Mistpaw's always been a good hunter. I hope that I can catch something soon!"

Frostmoon gave a flicker of her eyes down to her paws before nodding to thin air in an awkward return of Willowsong's greeting, though she quickly decided to focus on the apprentices again. She finally spoke. "Hunting is very important. Ghostscreech is right... you'll all need to hone your skills if you want to hunt in Twolegplace when you're assigned to one of the patrols."

Sunthroat stood and tapped his tail against Dawnpaw’s shoulder, “You’ll do great. I’ll see you when it is your turn to hunt.” He said before joining Frostmoon and Willowsong. He gave the other two mentors a nod before looking at the apprentices that would be part of the first hunting group, “I hope all of you are ready.” He said lightly.
Ghostscreech waited until everyone had joined the group they had been assigned to before nodding, “Alright. The hunting group will come back at Sunhigh and make the switch. Let’s begin.” He said, signaling to Sunthroat, Willowsong and Frostmoon to lead the apprentices out into the territory.
“No. He didn’t even comment on them.” The blind apprentice grumbled, her tail lashing. At Ghostscreech’s words, Hollowpaw smiled lightly at the fact that they would be battle training first, glad that she was in the same group as Scarletpaw. At the other apprentice’s question, she gave a flick of her ear, “Um, sort of… we worked on the basics, but I also trained with Sootpaw and Patchpaw a few times, so I know a little more than what Silentflare has taught me.” She said quietly, not sure if she should tell Scarletpaw about her nightly training sessions with Wrenflight in her dreams.
Sootpaw bounded after the hunting group, excitement shining in his eyes, “Where are we going first?” He chattered happily, looking at the three mentors.
