"I always keep an eye out for them." Sootclaw smiled gratefully at the medicine cat. "Every time I leave the camp, I hope I scent them or see them. I'm not giving up hope." “You have a good heart, Sootclaw. I know that you will one day be shown good graces in return.” Peachdapple nodded kindly, ears perking as she caught a very faint scent of a plant. She hummed lightly. “If Bloompelt remembers anything her father or I told her, she’d probably know what borage smells like. That reminds me, we should look for some of it...”

Sootclaw flicked his ear and nodded in reply. That's right, they were out here looking for herbs. He shouldn't be rambling off to her like a distressed elder. "I'll search for any kind of plant and let you determine what it is," he mused quietly.

"I'll search for any kind of plant and let you determine what it is," he mused quietly. “I have faith in your age that you won’t lead me to Foxglove.” Peachdapple teased with a thick chuckle, a moment of reprise from the heaviness of their losses. She felt comfortable with Sootclaw’s steadfast nature and dedication, a pleasant clanmate to listen to and speak to. “Ah.” She nodded. “I’ll give you my share of prey if you manage to poke your nose into any Marigold.”

Sootclaw chuckled. "No need for that. The Clan needs you Peachdapple, much more than they need me, so you keep your prey if I find you any marigold." He paused by a charred tree to check its roots for any growth that escaped the fire.

"Oh, if anyone needs prey, it certainly isn't me. I'm large enough, I think." Peachdapple humored, her sense of humor still present as each day passed. She grew more serious after a moment, taking in a few deep breaths and perking up as she nodded again. "There's definitely a scent around here. If there's any standing water nearby, or a hollow, it might be in there...It smells like watermint. Good for stomachaches, but we take what we can get."

"There's a hollow up ahead that rain water sometimes collects in." Sootclaw perked up at Peachdapple's announcement. "It usually stays damp in there, but with the fire. Well, maybe we'll get lucky." He picked up the pace to find that hollow.

"Yes, that should be ideal. Herbs can be resilient if they have enough protection." Peachdapple nodded, padding quickly after the tom. Her head tilted as she mewed. "If you can, peek into the hollow and tell me if you see anything. I'll be able to collect them properly if you can verify that they're in there."

"Uh." Sootclaw slowed when he reached the hollow and he crouched down to peek inside. "Uh...well...I see...plants, Peachdapple. There are plants, but uh...I don't know what kind they are."

"Are there any blooms on the plant that look like a white or purple clump? If not, do the leaves look jagged on the edges?" Peachdapple listed off, scenting for a few moments and giving herself a small nod as she assured herself that it was indeed, most likely watermint. Even so, it would be beneficial to any warrior to know which herbs were safe to pad past and which were not.

Sootclaw blinked at the plants. Were there any what? Were the leaves--? Weren't all leaves the same? "Uh..." Sootclaw backed out of the hollow and sheepishly flattened his ears. His skills in plant identification went as far as a tree is tall and a bush is short. He did know the difference between their oaks and the Southern Live Oaks of SkyClan territory, but that was about it. "Maybe you should take a look at it yourself."

"I'll give it a look-see." Peachdapple called, padding over to push herself partially into the hollow. Her shoulders bumped against the small opening, though she managed to brunt her way in. She inspected the plants for a moment before he gave a noise of surprise. "Oh! There's watermint, yes, but there's also a bit of celandine hiding in there. We will definately take the celandine." She shuffled around a bit, carefully nipping and clawing at the stems of the herbs until only a few sprigs remained for later growths. She carried the small bundle in her jaws, placing them down gently before Sootclaw. "This plant is watermint. This plant is celandine. If you see this one at any time during a hunt-" She pointed to the small yellow flowers "report it to me as soon as possible. It's the best treatment for damaged eyes, whether from smoke or injuries." She explained.

"Yellow flowers." Sootclaw flicked his ear as he looked between the two plants. Yellow flowers should be easy enough to spot. "Of course, Peachdapple. I'll pick them for you if I see them."
(Sootclaw comes back with dandelions at one point xD)

(I can imagine that and I love him for it XD )
"Just be careful when dealing with any plant. The general rules, never wash your paws if it looks like poppy seeds are on them and you didn't touch a pod. Never consume white flowers without mine or Aspenfall's order, and avoid bright berries." Peachdapple chuckled, listing off the traits of poisonous plants. She suddenly looked thoughtful. "You know...it might be wise to take a trip towards Snakerocks. Perhaps we can find some yarrow, and some honey. The rocks may have protected the yarrow plants enough to salvage them." She offered, lifting the herbs into her jaws once more.

(Then finds some little yellow daisies the next time XD)
Sootclaw flicked his ear at Peachdapple's instructions and nodded along. He didn't think he'd ever eat a plant--usually Peachdapple had to force him to eat herbs in the past. "I remember you telling me this stuff before, Peachdapple, but I'll definitely remember." He blinked at the mention of snake rocks. "Snake rocks sounds like a good place to look. I'll lead the way."

Hi there all! I have an apprentice here named Autumnpaw! I'm hoping for her to end up having kits and becomes a permanent queen but for now she's just training to be a warrior. Anyone open to rp?))

He blinked at the mention of snake rocks. "Snake rocks sounds like a good place to look. I'll lead the way." Peachdapple mumbled a ring of laughter around the bundle of herbs in her jaws, her eyes training on the tom in front of her. Snakerocks was never her favorite place to go, and yet there were many herbs that grew around it. She idly wondered if her mother was watching over them now...if her father was too, though a part of her doubted even now that he cared much for her. She blinked the thought away, before she continued padding onwards.

Sootclaw quietly led the way to Snakerocks, his senses alert for any of the adders that slithered amongst the stones. Inwardly, he hoped the fire had chased all the adders away from the rocks. Maybe they could collect Peachdapple's herbs in peace for once without having to worry about them.

Peachdapple's ears flicked as she peered around. The chilling silence of the burned forest made her heart ache. How long would this be the usual sight when they left camp? She spotted the top of the Snakerocks, so much easier to see with no leaves obstructing the view.

Who's Autumnpaw's mentor going to be? And if anyone has a character they want a mate for then Autumnpaw is open for a relationship. The whole mates thing would of course be after she becomes a warrior. lol))

(I only have two characters in this Clan, so I can't help you, Z, sorry)
"Here we are." Sootclaw paused when he reached Snakerocks. He glanced back at Peachdapple. "What exactly are you looking for?"

"Snakerocks is the best location to find yarrow. If cats swallow poison or too much ash, I can use it to make them vomit it up. It also can be used to treat dry skin and paw pads." Peachdapple explained. She gave a small chuckle. "It's the herb my brother was named after, and since they grow bright flowers, there tends to be beehives close by...if we're lucky, some beehives survived the fire and the bees fled the flames. We can take the honey if we find it." She moved to carefully trek up the Snakerocks, wanting to get a bird's eye view of the area.

Sootclaw flicked his ear and did his best to remember what Peachdapple said. He even repeated a few things in his mind to remember. Sootclaw padded into the rocks, keeping an eye out for adders as he scanned the trees for beehives. Beehives were pretty flamable, so he had a feeling he wasn't going to find any, but he tried to keep optimistic for Peachdapple's sake. He was better at identifying beehives over plants anyway.

"Hng." Peachdapple grumbled lightly. "Everything's sooty and charred. Some of the trees have toppled over..." She reported, mostly to herself as she sighed. Her tail flicked as she peered around. Her paws lumbered over stone as she thought she saw a flash of yellow. Perhaps that was a stray Yarrow stem.
"See any hives up there?" She called after a few moments.

Sootclaw shook his head regretfully. "I'm not seeing a single one." He bounded further through the rocks to make sure he was checking every branch of every tree. "What about your flowers? Finding any?"

"Ah. There's a stem here. It might be the only one left." Peachdapple mewed forlornly, before she scooted down towards a crag in the rocks. She pawed firmly at the stem, inspecting the soot speckled blooms. She nodded once. "Yarrow. Wonderful...Hm. Even if we can't find honey, try and look through some of the stones for cobwebs. Please be cautious of any snakes." Peachdapple asked.

"Will the herbs grow back?" Sootclaw padded over to Peachdapple to look at the plant she found. "After this fire, will there be any seeds or roots left for the herbs to grow again?"
|
|
|
Post by Moonblazer on Sept 25, 2020 15:16:26 GMT -5
"Yes." Peachdapple nodded. "Most herbs have hardy seeds and roots, even when a fire sweeps in. I nipped the stem, but the yarrow plant itself will grow back, certainly now that the trees won't block the sun from them. The grass and herbs should grow back, perhaps faster than the trees now." She explained, remembering the last time Mossfeather had explained this to her. Her mentor's jittery but brilliant teachings pressed firmly into her mind. She carefully pawed the ash away from the spot where the nipped stem was, so the plant could have more room. She suddenly perked in realization.
"Oh!...I just realized, if there is any place where herbs would be, it would be twolegplace...Is it worth the risk though?" She murmured.
