Lightningstar just sighed, shoulders slumping. "And leaders make mistakes... Everyone makes mistakes... It took our whole clan to defeat those rouges.." He shook his head. It was his fault they lost so many. "You aren't the only one who hurts..." He sighed. "I'm here for you though..." He looked back at his apprentice. "I love you like a son Yarrowcloud and they are others who love you too. Even Silentflare does." He added. "Just know that. Not everyone expresses themselves the way you do but they doesn't mean the whole class doesn't love you and hasn't suffered with you in loosing him..."

Yarrowcloud wanted to fight and argue but all he could feel was a burning in his eyes. He turned away so his back was to his leader, refusing to let him see him cry, even if it was a short cry.
"He was so scared up there...He was scared and I couldn't keep him safe...I couldn't keep anyone safe..." Yarrowcloud choked, thinking of his mother, of Quailsong, Vinefur, of Featherkit. He closed his eyes and gritted out.
"I need to be better because I couldn't run fast enough, jump high enough...Need to fight better because I failed in protecting the nursery....That's how I feel. It's not...it's not because I blame any of you. I blame myself and I'm so tired of blaming myself and letting Starclan stomp all over me." He explained strongly.

Lightningstar stepped up to him and pressed his nose to his cheek. "I know you do. I blame myself for every death." He sighed. "Ravenwing, Quailsong, Blackberry, Featherkit..." He trailed off. "It wasn't your fault though. Any of those deaths." He said softly. "Starclan does no control everything. They hold no power over rouges and hawks." He sighed. "You have to be strong though." He reminded him simply. "Starclan gives their harshest battle to those they know can face them and surivive."

"Starclan. I don't want to think about them right now. Not for a while. Maybe not ever. I believe in them but I do not believe they are almighty. Peachdapple has saved more cats than Starclan ever has, and look what they took from her. No. I...I can't." Yarrowcloud mewed strongly, no ounce of words could make him see Starclan in a better light right now.
He looked at his leader.
"I will be fine. I always am. I appreciate that you worry for me...but I'm being strong right now. I'm not going to stay saddened forever but...for now, I simply can't feel that happiness. It'll come back, but for now I just want to rebuild Thunderclan, keep it safe before Starclan finally finishes me off." He gave the first chuckle he had in many days, scoffing over Starclan.

Lightningstar just looked at him, sad his apprentice had fallen so far away from the bouncing, wide eyed apprentice. He bowed his head before signing. "Alright." He nodded slightly. He felt like it was his fault, that he pushed Yarrowcloud too hard.

"You look so sad. I'm still alive, aren't I? It's not that big of a change..." There was a bit of that spark in his eyes still, it was deep down, it just had to be coaxed out of him slowly, like feeding a frightened rabbit. Yarrowcloud flicked his ears and looked around.
"Let's hunt a bit, I guess...maybe I'll feel happier if I hunt like the old days." He offered. He didn't like to see his leader upset, so he supposed he could try to find happiness...

"Nah. Mentors are supposed to be like that. Wasn't your fault." Yarrowcloud assured. He smiled lightly.
"At least you cared that I was getting stronger, or that I was upset." He glared.
"More than I can say about some others." He shook his head before nodding.
"There's a squirrel down the way. Watch and learn, old timer." He challenged, moving with newly practiced skill and silence towards the prey.

Yarrowcloud had no trouble catching the squirrel, using his good eye side to see the prey. He pounced and killed it, holding it up for Lightningstar to see he had made the catch sucessfully. He placed it down and gave a small grin.
"Old tom." He repeated, trying to banter a bit to make himself happy. It worked a tad bit, but it also reminded him of Featherkit saying-
No. No, his son was dead. He had to...had to accept that. Had to regain any happiness he could find...

Lightningstar heard towards him. He nodded to the squirrel but gave him a glare. "Call me old again and I'll claw your ear." He said with a teasing tone. He was glad he seemed have to regained that little bit of spark.

"You can claw the messed up one. I plan to keep this good one safe." Yarrowcloud chuckled, flicking his shredded ear from his monster attack. He gave a sniff and smiled lightly.
"I think there's some herbs around here. Peaches might like that we bring some back...you know, for a little moment of my life, I considered wanting to be a medicine cat after my monster attack...but Slatesight was already in the spot and I was always a warrior...But I knew so many of the herbs and I wasn't bad at helping my sister." He admitted.

Slatesight let out a sigh as he looked at the medicine cat den. Most of the herbs were washed away. With leaf-fall coming, this wasn't good.
Nightpaw ate a mouse by himself, getting ready to help repair camp.

"Oh, you;ve got that right. Even now, she is distracting. In all the best ways. She really is something." Yarrowcloud sighed brightly, this time with an immense amount of happiness and wistfulness. He shook his head and nodded.
"Okay...they smell like Coltsfoot...or.." He frowned as he approached and sniffed them. A little down, he sighed.
"Ah, no. That's Snakeroot...really really hard to find though. If only we had some on paw with Dustclaw...Oh. The Coltsfoot's close to it, that's the scent." Yarrowcloud perked.

"Yes. She will. She values Snakeroot closer than most. Snakeroot and Yarrow." He grinned proudly, before humming.
"Wellll. Who knows, maybe I woulda bent the code a bit..." He mewed with a dark teasing tone, unknowing that their own medicine cat apprentice had done just that. He hummed.
"Hey, I know it's not my business...but did Mapleleaf ever tell anyone who the father of her kits are? I mean, they'll be perfectly fine without a father, many cats have been but...I kinda suspected Hornetstrike was, but he's awfully close with Whiteblaze..." He hummed.

"The things we do for she-cats. Tough ones at that." He chuckled before plucking up the Snakeroot, mind drifting to Dustclaw sadly. To his mother. Mossfeather had run out of Snakeroot too that day...it was just so hard to find. He scowled. It grew near Sunningrocks on rare days, as did alot of the Chickweed!

"Got that right. Daughters too. Petalkit asked me to carry her everywhere. I simply can't say no, her eyes get all big and cute. And Bloomkit's got Mama's accent, looks too much like her for me to get her upset. I spoil Darkkit though too...I must say, surprisingly he's always with Spiderkit...coincidences are crazy..." But Yarrowcloud's eyes were somewhat knowing, a little weary.

"Better be soon, before the nursery gets even more crowded." Yarrowcloud advised with a wave of his tail. Even when Acorntail and Vinefur's kits were now apprentices, the den was still pretty full. He sighed.
"Man, took us a while to have kits, thanks for giving my mate an apprentice." He snickered, before shaking his head.
"I expect another one for her after this." He joked.
Dapplepaw looked up at Nightfang, eyes wide and curious. His mentor was pretty reserved, but that was okay. The polite little tom asked.
"What training will we do today?"
