"And that makes sense, those flames were really big after all..." “I would never want to be leader either...especially with news like that...” Midnightstream murmured her agreement as she listened to Cedarstar’s report. She did not take kindly to the ungrateful comment, but she knew that being annoyed by that would not be a good lesson to show her apprentice. “Remember these losses, even if they are not of our clan. It seems we were right. How could they possibly have gotten to us like that?” She sighed sadly. Deerpaw nodded in agreement and acknowledgement, going over that list over and over in her head in an attempt to do her best to remember each name. (Sorry guys, I'll try to wrap this up quick.)
"As much as ShadowClan has suffered," Cedarstar looked away from Lightningstar, disappointed in the older leader's reaction. "We still survive. Pearlkit was born of Falcontalon and Roseleaf and is now being nursed by Songbreeze. Jaysong has had Kestrelgaze's kits: Hawkkit, Thrushkit, Larkkit, and Cranekit! Mouseclaw and Spiderfang discovered a lone kit after the flames died out and have adopted it. Rowanpaw, Strikepaw, Maplepaw, and Fuzzypaw are now apprentices! Tumblefoot, Burninghope, Vixenflame, and Hazelblaze are ShadowClan's newest warriors!" He paused to allow recognition to his clanmates. He knew his next words wouldn't sit well with anyone in the clearing, but he didn't have a choice. "The Great Fire damaged ShadowClan territory far more than any of the other Clans." Cedarstar kept his ears back, but he held his head up. "Prey still, has yet to return and leaf-bare is on the way." He took a deep breath. "Therefore, until our territory has the chance to recover, ShadowClan lays claim to Fourtrees as a hunting ground! We will guard it as our own for the next couple moons and only allow Clans to access it during gatherings!" Cedarstar looked to the other leaders. "No one uses Fourtrees outside of gatherings. Therefore, it should be no issue for ShadowClan to hunt in this small patch of land that we may provide for ourselves."

“Cedarstar, I am not sure that such a claim is even plausible. This land is considered neutral under the will of Starclan, not of any particular clan...After all that has been lost, I understand your desire to do this, but I only ask that you consider that Starclan may not accept such a move. Skyclan won’t be forcing your paw anytime soon, but I cannot speak for the other clans.” Spiritstar shook her head lightly, heartbroken for her brother’s clanmates. As much as she wanted Shadowclan to have ample prey, she was worried Starclan might punish them for such a thing. She glanced up at the sky, seeing if any clouds came near the moon.

Swiftstar's attention snapped to Cedarstar. We've all lost clanmates. He thought And all of us had our territories scorched...it's going to be leaf-bare for all of us. He turned to Spiritstar as she spoke, and then nodded in agreement. "Fourtrees has always been neutral territory Cedarstar, if anything we all should have equal claim to it. We all lost territory, and leaf-bare is coming to us equally as fast."

Lightningstar stepped forward. “Fourtrees has always been neutral territory and there is no reason that should chance. Starclan has always decreed this for all clans.” He spoke. “I cannot allow you to take it for yourselves.”

Fuzzypaw pressed further against her mentor, squeezing her eyes shut against the heavy cloud of grief that descended on the clearing. She was trembling now, but not from the cold. And as excited as she had been when she'd finally become a 'paw, she couldn't bring herself to be excited now when her promotion was announced. Even though she could normally find good in everything...there wasn't enough to see in all of this.
When Cedarstar spoke of claiming Fourtrees, though, she pulled herself away from Thistlestalk a moment and looked up at him, her blue eyes sparkling with anxiety.
"Can...can he do that?" she mewed quietly, internally cringing at the blatant challenge to a leader's word, knowing it was supposed to be law.

Sunpaw had opened her mouth to reply to Closesky when Cedarstar stepped forward with his announcement. The names of the dead seemed to stretch on forever. Her heart felt like it had been sliced down the middle by a fox as she heard the names Ravenpaw and Sproutpaw. They should’ve been able to make it to warriorhood, Cedarstar should be announcing their warrior names instead of listing them off of an endless line of deaths. She looked down at her paws, blinking to keep tears from falling.
She raised her head again as Cedarstar laid claim to Fourtrees, and her eyes narrowed as the other leaders replied. ShadowClan had lost so many, were they really so selfish and ungrateful that they wouldn’t grant this one wish?
Brownleaf glared as the two RiverClan warriors walked away, but the anger he felt towards them melted to shock as he heard Cedarstar speak. So many warriors... he had spoken to some of them in past gatherings, they were decent cats, not a single one deserved this. And those poor apprentices, and kits... He suddenly felt a wave of gratefulness towards Cedarstar for helping WindClan, he had lost so many cats but still sent Stormfury and the others to warn them.
Sootwhisker’s heart was heavy as the deaths of his clan mates were announced. He still felt guilty for Viperpool, Scorchfire, and Icefire’s deaths. He should’ve tried to save them...
“Gatherings aren’t usually this, um... Miserable.” He said to Rowanpaw, looking down at the apprentice.

Eclipsesky shook his head "I didn't know at all, they must all be suffering." he mewed quietly. He flicked his ears as the leaders began fighting, letting out a sigh. "Starclan will not be pleased with this argument."
Thistlestalk flicked his tail, the tom looking a little unsure. "I.. don't know Fuzzypaw. I suppose we'll see what the other leaders end up deciding and see if Starclan has something to say about it." He looked up towards the sky, searching for any sign of clouds to cover the moon.
Falcontalon glanced at Closesky with worry.
Duskpaw let out a grumble as the other leaders started to defy her father's statement. "We need it!" she exclaimed looking up at Cliffheart with wide eyes.

Silverspirit flicked her tail. "Maybe not, but Cedarstar can't just claim Fourtrees? After all didn't he just get done claiming half his clan died in the fire? He doesn't need more territory to feed fewer mouths." She glanced over at the medicine cat. "I mean it's terrible that they died the way they did...but to claim neutral ground..."

Oakpaw's tail lashed as the leaders quarreled, but he knew better than to say anything else. Sandflower was probably already going to shred his ears when they got back to camp.

“There are no clouds covering the moon.” This time, Honeypaw did speak up, though there was only a tone of calm debate in his voice. He stood to his paws at Whorlpaw’s side, looking towards the other clans and the leaders. “If Starclan truly did disapprove of Cedarstar’s intent, wouldn’t it be covered by now? What is to stop the other clans from using territory that borders their clans to secure prey for their clans? Are there not Twolegplaces and old dens and even Highstones to hunt for prey? Hightstones surely is also neutral and sacred territory, yet I know Windclan has inhabited and hunted there, as have other clans. This is one of the worst possible things that could occur before a leafbare, and it is against the code to allow harm to befall kits, which is what will happen if Shadowclan is barred from territory to hunt.” Honeypaw explained, logical and firm in his words.
Peachdapple looked up at this, unnerved by Cedarstar’s claim but also considering the factors. Shadowclan did need assistance, and hunting grounds, lest they lost more cats. She did prefer he just ask for help though, instead of making a bold move to take Fourtrees. She did not feel any negative energy though, and no prickling tell-tale feeling of a vision came to her.

Earthstar was conflicted by Cedarstar's claim of Fourtrees. On one hand, ShadowClan indeed had suffered much because of the fire, but on the other hand, they always seemed to be in need of prey and hadn't claimed the area before. He looked up to see if clouds were beginning to cover the moon, but nothing seemed to be different. If Cedarstar wasn't willing to back down, he would support the others. I know he's gone through a lot, but this is a bold claim, he thought to himself.

"Was that Great Fire the will of StarClan?" Cedarstar sharply looked at Spiritstar, his ears fallen back. "Was it the will of StarClan that ShadowClan territory be decimated and twenty-three of its members--kits included--be burned alive in that blaze?!" He swept his gaze over to the other leaders. "I am not asking for Fourtrees permanently, I am taking it temporarily! The rest of you don't need it! You haven't even realized that ShadowClan has marked Fourtrees as our territory since the fire went out." He looked over at Spiritstar. "SkyClan's prey is mostly birds and they easily escaped the fire. Besides, the walk it would take you to reach Fourtress along the border wouldn't be worth the little prey you find here." He looked at Earthstar. "You reported RiverClan's territory survived the fire and your streams are always full of fish, Fourtrees is nothing to you. WindClan has the ability to chase prey out from under the ground." Cedarstar looked at Swiftstar next, knowing of WindClan's tunnelers from his time as a kit. "No rabbits burrow here in Fourtrees." He narrowed his gaze and looked at Lightningstar. "And don't get me started on the abundant variety of prey that ThunderClan is so blessed with." He looked out across the Clans. "Fourtrees is too small a territory for any of you to bother with; however, ShadowClan benefits from every scrap we can find." Cedarstar looked in the direction he heard Honeypaw's voice. He couldn't see the young tom from his position, but he couldn't agree more. "Honeypaw is right." Cedarstar looked at the other leaders, his tail waving with a bit of challenge. "ShadowClan can't take advantage of highstones like WindClan can or much of the twoleggedplace like RiverClan and SkyClan, but we can take the small land of Fourtrees to help us survive the coming leaf-bare."

“You act as if you’re clan is the only who has suffered. I am sorry for the loss of your clanmates Cedarstar.” Lightningstar spoke. “I truly am but with that loss you have much less mouths to feed.” He looked at the young leader. “Thunderclan territory has been destroyed as well and would benefit from this territory as well.” He spoke. “We may he prey rich but much as died and now we have nothing as well.” He spoke. “As I stated before Starclan has always willed this as neutral territory and it should stay that way.”

Swiftstar's tail lashed as Cedarstar continued. So the leader of ShadowClan knows of tunnelers he thought, anger pricking in his mind and he's this close to revealing it to everyone? "And what if I laid claim to Highstones?" said the WindClan leader "No leader or medicine cat could visit until some undetermined time in the future when I just decided to release it? You all would claw my ears off, and rightfully so. There are places in the forest that are sacred to us all."

Earthstar listened to Cedarstar and the others, lashing his tail slightly. Fourtrees isn’t nothing to RiverClan, he thought, but continued to remain silent as Lightningstar and Swiftstar continued challenging him.
Nighteye looked like he had something to say, nodding in agreement with Lightningstar. He tried to remember his knowledge from being a rogue. “Isn’t there a Twolegplace in ShadowClan territory?” he questioned, standing. He truly felt for the Clan’s losses, but the idea of Fourtrees being marked made him uneasy.

Spiritstar’s ears flicked worriedly at that, not wanting to give up such a neutral territory under Starclan, yet also noticing that there had been no sign from Starclan to indicate that it was forbidden. She looked between the toms, unsure of what to decide.
“You’re just being illogical at this point.” Honeypaw argued towards the leaders, not caring for a moment if he was far outranked by them. Cedarstar had points that made sense.
“The five clans would not survive if one were wiped out due to your refusal to bend tradition for one leafbare.” He argued, before looking firmly at Nighteye. “Are any of you going to truly care if cats trek into neutral land? What loss is it for you?”

Deerpaw flinched, ears back and fur bristled, as she cringed at the apprentice's outburst. She tucked herself in to make her seem smaller, paws closer to her body and her tail wrapped tightly around her legs.
By StarClan, that cat will be in so much trouble when the gathering is complete.

"How dare you." Cedarstar bared his teeth at Lightningstar. The ThunderClan leader had some nerve making a comment like that. "You think just because my clan has lost more cats than you, that we don't need more territory? Well, we also lost most of our territory. How dare you say something so cold, Lightningstar. Perhaps, every leaf-bare when you and the other CLans squabble for territory, you should just kill off your own members so that others could be fed?! ShadowClan is laying claim to Fourtrees for only a few lousy moons and you're all acting as if we're trying to take over the forest!" He lashed his tail, then glared at Swiftstar. "Every Clan leader and medicine cat has a right to Highstones in order to visit StarClan. Fourtrees is NOT Highstones. It is a small piece of territory that is only used once very full moon. My warriors risked their lives to warn your clans!" Cedarstar's pelt bristled when he looked at Earthstar, Spiritstar, and Swiftstar. He then glared at Lightningstar. "And we went out of our way to make sure you remained as ThunderClan's leader! And yet, instead of respecting my claim to Fourtrees for a couple of moons, you would rather see us STARVE!" He lashed his tail again and shot one last glare at each of the leaders. See, if I ever you any of you again!

Sunpaw frowned. “Is Lightningstar really that stupid?” She growled with indignation, trying to keep her voice somewhat low as to not be overheard by the leaders. “Now that we have “less mouths to feed,” we also have less hunters. Plus the fact a lot of us are still injured. I wasn’t expecting him to be so dense, even though he is a ThunderClan cat.” She looked over at the rest of the ShadowClan apprentices from her spot by the elders, her tail lashing with frustration. At least Honeypaw was speaking up. And Cedarstar too, she wasn’t expecting him to be so outspoken, but she was happy he was.

Lightningstar narrowed his eyes at Cedarstar. “Yes your warning which just so happened to leave us out. I am grateful for your help with the rogues but that debt is over.” He spoke. “You cannot have the fourtrees. It is neutral territory to us all.” He spoke. “Or perhaps Thunderclan will hunt here as well since we lost many clanmates and our territory. “You can hunt in the twoleg place or outside your territory but taking the fourtrees is just a stepping stone. Perhaps then you’ll take more territory to feed your mouths.”

Swiftstar shook his head. "You have no right to claim Fourtrees Cedarstar, or if you do then we all have an equal claim as leaders. ShadowClan's territory already covers more land than any other clan, in addition you have the crowfoodplace as well as a twolegplace of your own. WindClan's entire territory went up in flames because there were no trees to slow the spread of the fire. If you have a claim to Fourtrees, then so does WindClan."
