Deerpaw sat on her haunches near her mentor--Midnightstream--looking around, eyes wide with her curiosity at all the cats that had gathered there this evening. She curled her tail around her paws, humming softly to herself as she listened to the others whisper and talk. This was all so new and exciting, all this new information swirling around in her head. ( Hi pardon me just appearing out of nowhere ^^; ) “Oh, there you are! Sorry, I got lost in the crowd again!” Midnightstream sighed with relief, before she approached her apprentice with a small purr. Nudging Deerpaw lightly, she mewed. “I’m glad you weren’t in that little apprentice’s spat earlier. I like to think you have good patience.” She teased, before she mewed. “Cedarstar’s the last one...I wonder just how deeply Shadowclan have suffered. They seem strong, but they always seem that way.” She hummed.

"Their strength is good... I think. Even if it is a facade, it will be nothing but helpful in the longrun."

Thistlestalk gave Fuzzypaw an approving nod, "Remember, we are all united under Starclan. The dark forest is a common enemy between all of us. The clans have united against their evil plots in the past and we will do it again if we have to."
Stormsplash winced at Splashstone's outburst. "I'm sorry Splashstone, I was blinded by Adderclan in the beginning myself, I know how it feels." he mewed quietly.
Shadowblossom dug her claws into the ground, "You got that right, The dark forest is not taking any more of my kin." she mewed lowly, the usually calm and collected she-cat's eyes were glinting with a hint of aggression that hadn't been seen since she was an apprentice.
Larkpaw puffed out her chest, grinning ear to ear in the mass of the chaos. The little Windclan apprentice had been waiting for her name to be called for what seemed like forever!

While we are here, have you seen any of the other clans’ apprentices?”

Cedarstar flattened his ears when Swiftstar finished. The moment he had dreaded all night had finally arrived and he swore his pounding heart could be heard by every cat in the clearing. At first, he couldn't get himself to move. Doubt had him crippled. He should've made Cloudscar lead the Clan to this stupid gathering! He should've made Cloudscar face the backlash from ThunderClan and the gratitude from the other Clans. It had been his idea to send the patrols in the first place! Yet, the faces of his lost clanmates came to the front of his mind. The ones he had failed in those flames. I owe it to them to honor their deaths.
Cedarstar slowly rose to his paws. From how long he had been laying, his muscles had grown stiff and his burnt skin grown tight. He braved through the pain to stand on all four paws and with a wince on his face, he lifted his head as high as he could. All night, he had been avoiding meeting the gazes of the cats in the clearing. He didn't want to see how they looked at him. Many were horrified, some pitied him, others--he knew--silently mocked him. He slowly turned his gaze to Spiritstar, then Lightningstar, Earthstar, and Swiftstar. He remembered the numbers they gave. How many names each of them spoke of their clanmates lost in the fire. SkyClan lost three, RiverClan lost five, WindClan lost five, and ThunderClan lost twelve. Cedarstar closed his eyes as the heaviness of grief swept over his heart. I've lost twenty-three...
"This past..." Cedarstar opened his eyes to address the Clans, but his voice came out rough. He had to pause and clear his throat to avoid a scratchy coughing fit brought on by the chill of the night. He tried again. "This past moon has certainly been an active one for all the Clans." With every word, Cedarstar found more of his voice, but that didn't stop his nerves from trembling. "After the last gathering, I took a patrol to WindClan to see the banished Lightningstar and Sunthroat for myself." Cedarstar sideways glanced at the ThunderClan leader. "The events of what occurred at the beginning of this moon have been neglected all night, but ShadowClan remembers. With Swiftstar, myself, and a patrol of WindClan and ShadowClan warriors, Lightningstar and Sunthroat marched back to ThunderClan territory to chase the Dark Forest follower: Shadeclaw from ThunderClan. When we arrived, rogues had ambushed ThunderClan's camp, but with our combined strength, we were able to chase them and Shadeclaw out of ThunderClan for good." Cedarstar looked Lightningstar right in the eye. "And return Lightningstar to his rightful place as ThunderClan's leader." Cedarstar took a breath to say more, but the stirring breeze brought a tickle to his throat and he cut off with a cough.

"I don't think so," Deerpaw's ears drooped back in embarrassment as she ran out of big impressive words to say. "There's so many others here faces have started to blur together." She rose to her feet, ears erect and tail swaying. "I, I mean we, or... well I could go looking if you want me to!" She tried her best to mask the eagerness to please in her voice but her paws were flexing and twitching as she beamed up at her mentor.

Lightningstar narrowed his eyes ever so slightly as he watched the Shadowclan leader speak. Why bring it up now? What did he hope to gain. Perhaps he wanted to rub it in that Thunderclan ‘owed’ them. Well not anymore, they couldn’t be bothered to warn Thunderclan of the fire.

“So that was what happened...” Diamondheart murmured lightly, listening to Cedarstar as he calmed himself down, only to bristle once again. Shadeclaw being of the Dark Forest suddenly made sense, the battle with Thunderclan’s wounded Warriors on Sunningrocks coming back to his mind. So Thunderclan had also had the Dark Forest on their paws. He looked at Earthstar with a serious look, knowing he would need to talk with his leader when the gathering ended.
“We don’t owe him anything.” Scarletpaw whispered tightly so only Tigerpaw could hear her, her ears falling as she looked at Tigerpaw, and at the wounds he had sustained under Shadeclaw’s awful rule. She glared at Cedarstar from her mentor’s side, but wisely did not speak up this time. Since when was it Cedarstar’s business to announce Thunderclan’s business?
Hornetstrike lifted his head, eyes unreadable as he looked at Cedarstar. The Shadowclan leader had indeed helped, with Windclan as well. He listened without judgement for now.
Goldberry shuffled his paws lightly, not liking the tension in the air. It always made it difficult for him to sit still. He kept his eyes away from Whitesun, as always, but he focused on Cedarstar speaking.

Duskpaw glared in the direction that she had seen Scarletpaw go as her father mentioned how they helped Lightningstar within the last moon, how could he be so angry now?
Starrylight sat taller, trying to make eye contact with her mate. She knew this was going to be hard on him and she wanted to be there for him from afar.

Ghostscreech narrowed his eyes and tensed at the mention of Shadeclaw. Of course Cedarstar would bring up how he and his clan had helped Lightningstar get ThunderClan back. He tapped his tail tip against his paws in slight annoyance at the mention that ThunderClan still owed ShadowClan a debt.
Sunthroat shook his head as Laceheart spoke to him, “Something is definitely going on.” He murmured. The old warrior sighed as Cedarstar began and ThunderClan’s precious troubles with Shadeclaw was brought up, “This certainly won’t help things.” He said quietly.

"What does Shadow Clan want from us?" was the question she finally decided to ask in a mew barely above a whisper.

Earthstar watched the tension between Cedarstar and Lightningstar reappear. Was Cedarstar trying to ensure that they didn't leave ThunderClan behind on purpose? He kept back, wanting to observe the situation. He did catch Diamondheart's gaze, nodding to his deputy. They would need to talk about the Dark Forest in detail after the gathering was over.

Swiftstar glanced over at Cedarstar with mixed feelings. While he appreciated the recognition for their part in Shadeclaw's removal...this wouldn't help any tension between the oldest and youngest leader. He flicked his ear, his face not betraying his thoughts.

Fuzzypaw's ears pricked as she listened to Cedarstar's words. So that's what happened, she thought to herself. She recalled hearing murmurings of something to do with WindClan and ThunderClan near the start of the past moon, but hadn't been told the full details, as she'd barely become an apprentice. A cold breeze snaked through the hollow, and the young cat fluffed her pelt up against the wind, shifting to lean against Thistlestalk's side, her ears tilting backward as the ShadowClan leader began to cough.

Cedarstar took no one speaking out after his coughing fit as a blessing. He knew his words were bold, but he wanted to make sure he acknowledged everything his Clan had done this pass moon and give ShadowClan the recognition it deserved, especially since...I don't want to do this! Cedarstar grit his teeth. His gaze faltered from the cats around him and his eyes grew red with the burning of his grief. He couldn't avoid the topic everyone wanted to hear. The other Clans didn't know how the fire started, how ShadowClan suffered so greatly. They didn't know the risks that were taken just to warn three of the four other Clans and why ThunderClan had to be abandoned to themselves. Cedarstar closed his eyes for a moment in an attempt to pull himself together. StarClan must truly disapprove of him for making his Clan suffer so.
"The Great Fire began in the deepest parts of ShadowClan territory." Cedarstar didn't lift his gaze. He didn't want to see the sorrow of his own clanmates or the condemnation of the other Clans. When he spoke, he had to force his words to remain strong. "Goldberry and Tumblefoot witnessed a twoleg contraption explode before their very eyes--I thank StarClan neither were harmed because of it." He briefly flicked his gaze over to the two warriors, but then focused his eyes on a point no one else could see. "The explosion shook ShadowClan territory and fire leapt to the pines. It was nearly on us by the time Goldberry and Tumblefoot could warn us. We evacuated here to Fourtrees, but..." Cedarstar's voice cracked with his grief. He had to pause and take a breath, but his ears were flat against his head and his body was trembling. StarClan, he could still envision it. Those haunting flames that stalked his nightmares. He could picture every one of his fallen clanmates. He could still hear the way Owlshadow screamed when the den collapsed on her. Still see how Quailfrost and Roseleaf were curled around each other after suffocating on smoke and still feel the weight of Crowfur's dead body as he tried to drag him out of the flames...but he was too late. Cedarstar lifted his gaze to the starry sky. Twenty-three new StarClan cats were looking down on them tonight. I failed them all.
"Scorchfire, Icefire, Tatteredleg, Raggedthorn, Ribbondance, Mosspaw, Onyxheart, Roseleaf, Quailfrost, Cottonfur, Crowfur, Viperfang..." Cedarstar swallowed tightly when his voice began cracking once again. Just to get the names out, he had to steel himself. His words sounded hollow, but his heart was shattered. "Shadedpine, Ravenpaw, Mothpaw, Owlshadow, Marshsong, Mistsong, Redspark, Heartkit, Shinekit, Pineflower, and Oceanstorm..." Cedarstar turned his gaze downward, each name seeming to echo throughout the hollow. "They all died over the past moon." He turned his gaze to Lightningstar, too overcome by grief to even care if his words offended or not. What did it matter anyway? ThunderClan would alway hate them. "By the time my Clan was safe at Fourtrees and we could even consider warning anyone about the fire, the flames had already spread too far into ThunderClan territory. ShadowClan could not risk losing anymore cats to warn your ungrateful hides."

Thistlestalk lowered his head, a wave of grief going over him as Cedarstar called his mother's name. He looked away from Fuzzypaw, not wanting to look weak in front of his first apprentice.
Starrylight flattened her ears as the names of her mother, her siblings, her nieces and nephews names were called.
Duskpaw let out a whimper, feeling her father's anguish from here. Why had starclan allow this to happen.
Falcontalon raised his head to the stars, hoping Roseleaf was there waiting for him with the rest of their lost kin.
Eclipsesky tensed next to Silverspirit, his eyes wide. "Oh Starclan.. they lost so many." he murmured.
Shadowblossom gasped, her anger dissipating as all the cats were named. "I can't believe it."
Briarpatch turned to look at Flarestorm in shock. "How did they possibly lose that many warriors?" she stated, her voice horrified.

Goldberry’s eyes fell to his paws, the memory of the burst of brilliant light and fire scorched in his memory. Twolegs had caused this. They caused this, and now the clans were ripping at eachother because of it. More than anything, he wished there had been a way to have gotten to the clan sooner. They could have fled sooner. He closed his eyes, not looking at anyone.
“Starclan...” Hornetstrike murmured quietly, letting the final comment of Cedarstar slide off of him as he realized the leader was probably crippled with grief at the loss of so many Warriors....kits...they had lost kits...His ears fell with deep sympathy.
“Ungrateful...hmph.” Scarletpaw hissed to herself, though even she was struck by how many Shadowclan had lost. Even so, pride prevented her from doing anything more than watching Cedarstar unblinkingly.
Burninghope’s ears fell lightly as her father’s death was mentioned.

Cloudscar looked up at Cedarstar after he finished his list of the dead. Calling ThunderClan ungrateful in the middle of the gathering....he thought I suppose they've earned it...but will this just further escalate things? His eyes flicked over to Lightningstar to see how the oldest leader would respond.
---
Swiftstar blinked as Cedarstar listed the dead...and listed more of them...and more...it seemed like the list was never ending. Even though he had been in the ShadowClan camp, he never would have realized that many cats had been lost to the blaze. I assumed the camp was so quiet because everyone was out gathering supplies to rebuild he thought to lose that many clanmmates....I pity him.
Silverspirit's jaw fell open slightly as Cedarstar listed his dead. "That's so many" she whispered, glancing over to Cloudscar and then to Eclipsesky. "Did you know they lost that many?"
---
Laceheart's pelt pricked at Cedarstar ended his report. "Ungrateful?" she hissed to Sunthroat. "How were we to know that they lost so many members?

She did not take kindly to the ungrateful comment, but she knew that being annoyed by that would not be a good lesson to show her apprentice. “Remember these losses, even if they are not of our clan. It seems we were right. How could they possibly have gotten to us like that?” She sighed sadly.

Vixenflame flattened her ears against her head and lowered her head, thinking of her mother passing in the fire. She had noticed her father’s recent attitude lately since Redspark had died, and how he avoided looking at her as much as possible.
Ghostscreech blinked in shock at the amount of clanmates ShadowClan had lost and lowered his head in respect to their fallen warriors. It made sense why ShadowClan didn’t manage to get a warning out to ThunderClan, the fire had burned too quickly.
Snowdance lowered her head, thinking of the injured warriors who hadn’t come to the gathering tonight. Although their wounds were healing, she worried she wasn’t doing enough for them. She was keeping a sharp eye on the injured, not wanting anymore of her clanmates to join StarClan too soon.

Earthstar was shocked at the amount of cats lost. He had never seen such loss since the Battle for the Forest. He ducked his head in respect, not acknowledging the mention of ThunderClan.
Shortcloud and Cinderspeck bowed their heads for their fallen Clanmates, the latter shutting his eyes tight. He didn't want to remember the fire.
